Wakeshima Kanon - still doll (22.2MB, for PSP/Quicktime) | YouTube version

This is a rather nice gothic PV that features cello, chains, praying mantis, voyeuristic old man, and of course, a gothic lolita. The girl who sings the song, Wakeshima Kanon, was apparently found by Malice Mazer's member, Mana. As a result, her image in the PV is influenced by their Gothic-Victorian style. In a lot of ways, the PV reminds me of ALI PROJECT and their various Rozen Maiden OP and ED theme. It's also interesting to know that the lyrics have this purposely stunted style to it so that it reflects the song title. Thanks to its creepiness, the song becomes a perfect ED theme for Vampire Knight. The PV itself shows a girl whose legs are chained so she can't go anywhere outside the house. Outside the house, an old man uses a small peephole to take a peek at the girl who now plays cello. Even without the reference to Vampire Knight, the PV does a good job of being creeptastic.

Hi Miss Alice
あなた硝子の眼で
どんな夢を
見られるの?
魅入られるの?

またあたし
こころが裂けて
流れ出る
繕った
隙間に刺さる
記憶たち

Hi Miss Alice
あなた果実の口で
誰に愛を
投げているの?
嘆いているの?

もうあたし
言葉を紡ぐ
舌の熱
冷め切って
愛でるお歌も
歌えない

English version

Hi Miss Alice
With your glass eyes
What kind of dream
Can you see?
Are you fascinated with?

Stilll
My heart tears
And drifts
Stuck in the patched crevices
Are memories

Hi Miss Alice
With that fruitful lips
To whom does love
Is cast away?
Is lamented?

Already
I spin my words
Feverish tongue
Has turned cold
The song to love
Can't be sung either

still you do not answer

I guess the Miss Alice in question refers to Alice in Wonderland? But what does that got to do with being a doll?

I'm liking this song. It's eerie but lovely and I always love it when classical instruments such as the cello are integrated with popular music. The video was a bit weird for me, though. The chains and leery old man? Too much -- although I suppose that's simply stylistic, the unexplained and the deliberately unordinary contributing to the Mystery, etc. Bleh. The music alone is enough for me.

What's with the Japanese and their obsession with Gothic Lolita? I mean, it looks interesting and all but I wonder how it all started?

Surely you didn't mean cello?

Thank you for the song and full lyrics! Both the song and the PV are beautiful.

I really like this song, but I've never understood what the Japanese find so gothic about Alice in Wonderland (or through the looking glass either) As much as I love the book, it's basically one giant crack fic (literally).

Oooh. I have no interest in the Vampire Knight series, but this song is very beautiful. Thanks for the upload of the MV. I agree it's very sweeney todd ish.

As for Alice (a common name for a doll, I guess) in Wonderland, it IS a crack fic. I have no idea how Disney (i think?) made a kid's animated movie out of it. Craziness. But I think the gothic take on Alice is cool - it's just that that sort of theme is waaaaay overused in Japan.

Heh...just as I figured. I remembered talking about this on a forum for Vampire Knight and I posted on a subbed version of the TV version of VK in regards to this song.

The first line...which is as I knew and heard by ear...was indeed "Hi Miss Alice". The problem that many of us (including myself) run into is that when we listen by ear, we sometimes misinterpret what we are hearing easily, yet by listening several more times are we able to actually catch the mistake that we made when we listened the first few times. Originally that first line was thought to be "I miss Alice". And...as it turns out in the lyrics...that wasn't the case.

I believe it does refer to Alice in the Wonderland - if you know the history of the story , Lewis Carroll or aka Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was truly on opium (a highly and very toxic hallucinogen) and dreamt about this lovely story which whole title is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass and what Alice Found There (three part works). I believe Disney was on crack when they decided to make that the story into an animated film. Thanks for the upload and love it especially from a classical musician.

Nice pv and song, I kinda like it! ^^
But still, Mana was the leader and guitarist of Malice Mizer and surely not their singer!

This is the type of song ideal for a D.Gray-man ending theme.

I love this! The creepy bald stalker makes me LOL!

This song could be as much about Alice in wonderland as it could be about a Doll trapped in a house. The lyrics are pretty ambiguous but cool music none the less!

BTW: is this part of the Ramanji wrong?

It's Romaji and nope. If you're confused about the "Nageteiru no, Nageiteiru no", the singer intentionally chose an almost similar sounding words (where the only difference is the extra i) but with different meaning.

Hi Milkberry, go ahead with the lyrics thing. But when did you get the error message when trying to post? I am a bit worried because I thought I already solved that problem so I hope it happened yesterday and not today.

If you're using Mac, you may want to press refresh since the old script might still caching in your browser but I hope you don't have problem anymore. And yeah, sorry about the email. I've been slacking about checking that account. I'll try to check it sometime tomorrow.

I suppose the people who say Alice in Wonderland is a crack fic are referring to the fact that a lot of people today say it's about drugs...Hello, people, it was written in the early to mid 19th century, and was based on the stories a reverend ( "Lewis Carrol" was a psedonym, but I forget his real name...) used to tell to Alice Liddel, the little daughter of one of his friends. The whole "its about drugs" thing is SO old, seriously. Nobody can have an imaginative fantasy without being high? dude.

I think the lyrics perfectly fit the ending theme of VK. Especially when you see how she is staring dead ahead with no expression in her eyes [but her left eye glints-glass maybe?] then the scene shows her dancing in the spot light. The 1st time I saw the ending credits I got chills.0_o

What a fantastic eerie song. Thanks for posting the PV.

Well, in jap media they reference Alice quite a lot, mostly relating to the supernatural side of things. Like in Rozen Maiden, Alice is the doll which is "more sublime than any flower, purer than any gem, and without a touch of impurity.", at least according to what was said in the anime. Then, there's 'Gakuen Alice' where 'Alice' is the umbrella term for the abilities that the characters possess. But, heck, this PV is good, and VK is progressing well too.

Responding to Vael and any others..

The Gothic lolita style is based/spawned from a Book titled "Lolita". I can't remember if it's German or Russian, but you can google it or go to wiki Like i did. The lolita fashion also in some way slightly perverts the sense of childlike appearence, so there are some who look down upon it..

It's just all out cute ^^
