Uhm, it looks like I got suckered into the X-mas buying mentality. I went to my local Kinokuniya bookstore to see if they have the bilingual version of Fruits Basket (I know Tokyopop is going to bring the English language version next year in February but still, I was curious of this bilingual version). But when I couldn't find it, I instead ended up buying the Hardcover Edition of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Vol.2. But hey, I got a great excuse for it, I was pressured by all of the X-mas buying mentality (yeah, that's a good one!) and the artworks inside the book are worth the price tags (around $18 US Dollar - you can probably get it cheaper online).
This is the very title that prevented CLAMP or more specifically, Mokona Apapa, from completing X manga. So, while I'm unhappy that X was left in an unfinished state, I take a consolation on the fact that at least the time that CLAMP is not spending on X is spent quite well in making some nice illustration for this series. Some people probably disagree about this but I feel that as long as CLAMP has the intention of completing X, I'm all for them to take a break and do other series if it meant that they can write a better ending for X.
Besides, look at the illustrations, they certainly are well-designed. The Hardcover Edition of Tsubasa came with a nice sturdy box that houses the hardcover book. On top of those, the Special Edition version came with 2 colour illustrations, as well as a postcard and a bookmarker. All in all, I got the impression that a lot of hardwork went into the making this Special Edition. So I have the feeling that unless Tsubasa has a low count of tankouban, CLAMP is going to find it difficult (not to mention costly prohibitive) to create 2 versions of Tsubasa each time. I think it is likely that Tsubasa may only be 4 or 5 tankoubans at the most, and then CLAMP will return to compete X. Or at least that's what I hope. And for those who are wondering, the English language version will be published by Del Rey/Randomhouse early April next year.
If you're interested to purchase the Hardcover edition, here are some details of the 2nd volume:
ISBN: 4-06-364530-4
Price: 1143 yen ($10.65 US Dollars)
;_; How come I don't live near somewhere I can get it...? ;_;
Have you tried Amazon.co.jp or Sasuga Books Online? They both have the limited edition vol.2 and Amazon have limited edition vol.3 as well. Sure, it's more bothersome but it's not that difficult. Amazon JP can especially be a bit intimidating at first but once you got used to the layout, simply use the 'translate this into English' button that they have and you should have an easier time doing business with them. In fact, I have to purchase vol.3 from Amazon.co.jp since it looks like that local Kinokuniya bookstore will take ages before they can get the 3rd volume.
hi! i got Tsubasa Vol.1 about 2 hours ago, finished it in an hour, and am now super hungry for vol.2. i know it's not out yet, but does anyone know when it will be? please contact me. my e-mail has been taken away, so the only way anyone nice enough to help me can reach me is through aim, and my aim name is KissMe ImAFaerie
>__. this is the same with furuba i have to wait till no#5 comes out in October by Tokyopop.*sniffles...* at least we have ur translations!!!!!!!!+)
I have a think if there is a different cover between the real book (what I mean is the book who made in Japanese) and the book that already translated and sold outside Japan. Is there anybody can tell me?
