I supposed it's not surprising that this series gets so much exposure from various anime magazines given the CLAMP name and all. Having said that, I have to say that I'm still pretty skeptical about this particular anime adaptation. I'm probably one of the few who have not been impressed with the character design for this anime. I think the anime characters have this unusually thin frame. The picture that I posted above is probably one of the few pictures where the characters look closer to their manga counterpart. The other illustrations as well as the brief trailer that I've seen, however, suggests that the characters will look much thinner than the picture above.

About the series
I am not even sure if this part is necessary because I get the impression that most people are already aware of the series. But if you never read Tsubasa before, then maybe this will be of some use to you. Sakura, a Princess from the Clow Kingdom lost her memory due to a strange incident that happens inside an archeological dig in her home country. In order to regain her memory, Yukito, the Kingdom's mage sends her childhood best friend, Shaoran, to seek help from a witch called Yuuko. Yuuko informs Shaoran that in order to collect fragments of Sakura's memory, he must travels from one alternate reality to another. The only catch is, even if Sakura regains all of her memory, she'll never regain her memory of Shaoran.
Kurogane is a strong warrior who has been exiled by the Princess of his home country because he can't control his temper. Due to this incident, he has no choice but to travel from one reality to another so he can go back to serve his Princess. On the other hand, Fye is a mage who wants to move from one reality to another as long as he doesn't have to see King Ashura. Eventually, all four characters and strange rabbit creature called Mokona, end up travelling together from one alternate reality to another in order to recover Sakura's lost memory. Interestingly enough, some of the characters that the group encounters turn out to be characters from CLAMP's other series such as Chobits, Clover, and RG Veda.

Hahaha...Mokona is played by DekaPink...lol
It's interesting that you mentioned how thin the characters look. No matter how much I look at them, Sakura and Shaoran seem to have an adult body but with the same head used in the Card Captor Sakura anime. The head seems too small for the body and those arms look way too long. The body of that character with blonde hair (I think it's Fye) reminds me of those clowns you see in the circus with long arms and legs. I know some people out there are going to hate me for saying this but that's just what I think (I can see the tomatoes coming!!)
On the other hand, I never was a fan of Clamp. The only Clamp work I really enjoyed was Suki Dakara Suki and that was just because it was a slice of life story. The manga wasn't even animated!!
Very cool, man...awesome
Tan cheveres tus imagenes!!!
I would have to say this CLAMP manga to anime adaptation has lost a lot of the CLAMP style in character design. CLAMP already does long arms, legs, and torsos, except it's artistic style. The anime art looks as if it is imitating that particular style, yet it fails miserably. The only reason why I will be watching it is because I love Shaoran's character and his seiyuu.
Is this anime in any way related to Cardcaptor Sakura? Their both made by CLAMP right? Is this a spinoff?
To Antonio...IMHO...it's more like a crossover of sorts...except all the Clamp characters are place in a different role and storyline.
(first time commenter/commenter/however you spell that - here)
I agree with you, I find the character designs VERY, VERY unsettling. It's the combination of 'alternative' styles that really puts me off. I find it very difficult to look at!
But I fell out of love with CLAMP a while ago, so maybe that's a contributing factor...
I don't care, I think the animation looks cute, from what I see so far. I have heard of clamp, but never read it.....let alone an actual manga (unless you count online scanlations and stuff). Well when I saw the what seems to be the two main characters, the first words to pop out in my head were "Sakura and is it Shaoran?". I think the outfits are also interesting too. Now that I think about it, I never finished the anime Card Captor Sakura. Well I really shouldn't say cause the one I saw was the stupid dubbed and cut english kids WB version. (a long while back). I also wanna see the movies.
I also feel out of love with CLAMP along time ago. I personally think CLAMP is very overrated. Maybe because they have yet to write
a manga that really interest me. I also don't like their artstyle. CLAMP's anime adaptation are even worse. I'm going to pass this anime up and wait tell something more interesting (and better art) comes along.
i'm disapointed with how the characters look. They looked really awesome in the manga, but in the previews its just like a new thin and tall body with the old cardcaptor sakura character's heads....and i just realized mohammad said that already. ah, gomen!
But seriously, im really disapointed with how sakura looks. She's supposed to look prettier than that!!!-and her hair is supposed to b like shaoran's color
Oh well, i guess i am happy to know they r making tsubasa into an anime, it better b good!!!!!
Yea, the anime totally doesn't match up with the manga version...it lacks something big and its quite plain and flat compared to the actual manga which is very stylized.
From the scanlation I saw of the manga here, you don't notice as much of the characters having big arms, legs, torso ... but it looks awkward and stretched in the anime. I thing Tsubasa would have been better off without an anime version :S
I have to agree with nearly everyone about the anime's character design. What I liked most about the manga counterpart was the stark contrast between black and white. It was either really black or solid white. And to see everything in color is sort of ...alienating.
Plus, CLAMP's style is very unique, I don't see how the animators could mimic that.
The voice of Shaoran is very cute OMG!!! and the ending is awesome...you have to listen that song!!!!
I can't say I exactly like CLAMP either (I don't usually say this because it seems like just about all the anime fans in my school are utter CLAMP-fangirls - but I also agree that they're overrated), but I also don't really like the character designs too much. They're not *bad*, but without comparing to the manga, on their own merit I think the style just somehow doesn't work. Thin legs and long stylized bodies DO work sometimes - for example, I still LOVE Utena's character design and style, but see, they have more dynamic hair and lines for that kind of design.
Another thing is the colours, they juts seem to give a more bland overtone to the whole thing.
Just why did Madhouse decide not to do this? They seem to be going bonklers...
I can't say I particularly like Bee Train either, even though Noir had excellent production.
Well..... i'm kinda excited about the Anime, considering that i'm a fan of CLAMP's works, especially Tsubasa. However, i'm not very hopeful that the Anime series would progress properly since the Manga is still continuing. i have a feeling that they may deviate the original plot (possibly by a significant amount) coz it's a bit too soon for them to create an Anime series. Guess we'll all just see how it goes. By the way, have ya listened to "Loop"? It's an awesome song for any Maaya fan! i really love it! ^^
I'm personally happy that Bee Train is doing the productioun since I'm a fan of most of the anime they release. If it was CLAMP's idea to let Bee Train animate the series then I love them even more.
You can see a preview for the first episode on http://www3.nhk.or.jp/anime/tsubasa/yokoku.html
In it you can hear Sakura's voice. The visuals definitely look better than in the preview.
Didja go to the Tsubasa site, there's more stuff on it now. Like a preview for ep 1 where you can hear Sakura's voice.
Yup, I finally get to look at it. Thanks, Wao! I have to say I really like the voices. And the animation does look good (I like the part where the guys are transported into Yuuko's realm). I can't say the same about Kurogane's anorexic body though :)
Hmm not sure if i should try this anime. I did read the manga and lets just say i got lost XD Tho i have to say the manga pictures looks better than the anime. The only thing i enjoy by CLAMP is of couse card capture sakura ^^
Im happy yeah...the voices are so cute...
So did they said anything about how many eps does it have? If is one of those 26 eps animes... I wonder how would everything turn out.
Well, I'm really a fan of CLAMP. I love all their works...and I once thought that they only have one style but then it varies. I love the art style they used in the manga version......I love the maturity of the characters. Although in the anime they do look ODD. It's like they didn't have any improvement since CCS. The Seiyuus are okay. Although I would have like the others to stay the same[the main ones are ok].
Well anyway, I'll still watch it eventhough I still prefer the manga. Can't wait!!!
Well..me too...Im expecting....only 3 days...(nails eating)
Just watched the first episode yesterday. It's great ^O^! But I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of sd comedic moments in Tsubasa Chronicle (they happen ever so often in the Manga =p). Oh well, that's Bee Train for ya. ^^;
I am also a little bit disappointed with the first episode of tsubasa chronicle. i fully agree that most of the characters look like sticks! especially kurogane! i really liked the background music throughout most of the episode, although it was almost like noir and .hack all over again. i just hope the animation and some of the voice acting will improve by the end of the series.
to me clamp did a good job.
the anime wont be truely based on the manga from the looks of it.
well thats expected as they r different stuff.
but i know ill enjoy the anime ^ ^ nearly as much as the manga
i like clamps art, so i think trc will be good, i just want to see the episode but apparently there will be only 5 episodes aired this month and then a loong wait for the other episodes in may :(
but to me...trc will forever be good ^ ^
His name is Syaoran, not Shaoran.
I watched the the 1st episode RAW and I was surprised how good it was! the music is amazing too (reminds me of Kajiura Yuki's work). However i wish the voices were the original voice actors but I can't complain. It's cute and i think the music really pulls you in making it seem really good.
hmm...........first i hate the animation they are so thin and they even not look like the original.....
these manga books were great!! i loved it cuz it has all the characters from card captor sakura. the story 's really great
Yeah, i agree that their arms and legs are a bit too long...........................
When sakura starts sinking into the ruins, the dramatic heavy vocal music starts, and I was like...WOW!! I gott have that song!! But alas, I can't seem to find it.
Those of you who have seen the 1st episode should have heard it. Any idea where I can listen to that song?
It's a pretty interesting manga, onli complant abt it is the o|-< stickmans... needa inject some meat into 'em, beef 'em a bit. wat makes tusbasa interesting is that it consists of short stories which builds up the main story, sort of keeps it interesting all the way, so at least U dun get bored halfway.
Umm, is everybody looking at the same pictures as me? Everyone keeps saying that the characters look nothing like their manga counterparts and so on and so forth, but I think they're actually pretty close. The whole distorted body shapes were apart of the manga, so you can't blaim the anime style for that, but I think they did a pretty good job with that, regardless. But while Tsubasa's body proportions may be off (in the manga, I mean), the ones in XXXHolic are WORSE. That's become apart of CLAMP's style, I guess (I can't really see that style in any of their earlier works.)
As far as the anime goes, I'm looking forward to some kind of release in English (whether it be in English or Japanese with subtitles), so I can't say anything about seeing the art in motion. All I can do is look at the pretty pictures. ^__^
Oh, and Sakura's hair actually WAS lighter than Syaoran's hair in Card Captor Sakura, if I remember correctly. It was always a lighter shade of brown than his. And in all technicality, her hair still IS brown in Tsubasa, just not the traditional shade of brown.
i have the seen the first episode now (trying to get a hold of it for a while now) and i think its so cool. I have always been a huge fan off CCS and i have no problems with this show or the art. its great that there is some differences but i think its gd to seperate one show from another.
The story line is also really cool and i cant wait to find out what happens in the end. ='.'=
While I'm dissapointed to see them branch into shounen manga and anime, the sight of Sakura and Syaoran again brings a wave of VERY fluffy nostalgia. So yeah, I enjoyed the first episode.
The animation seems ok, you get used to it. I agree that Clamps manga style looks a little strange on TV, but hey, artistic license, people.
@.@ I want the original voice actors so bad...but it's been so many years since CCS... so I guess it would be a tough task.
...but I'm used to taking things with a pinch of salt. So, original voices aside, the new ones rock~
I'm looking forward to this anime. Will it have a good ending, and IF it diverges from the manga, will it have a loose ending? ...I hate those.
huh? when did it start? i'm new here... i haven't see it....T_T....
I have watched 6 eps already and it was great! But doesn't have that much exaggeration like in the manga books, and the characters looks different too, mostly because the character disign is like from Noir and Madlax, not like chobits.
i'm dissapointed of this series (but i still like it) 'cause it's like a bad copy of sakura card captor I know this is another one but it's like they put all the characters of card captor into another series and another history
hey, anyone know the name of the song that goes like..
"Konna ni tooku futari wa kiteshimatte ano koro no
osanai kimi no hohoemi ni mou kaerenai ne
kimi ga warau sekai ni suki de
Kimi ga warau hohoemi soba ni
Soba ni itai sore dake wasurekaketa itami mou mune ni
Time goes by.."
really like that song....so if anyone know its name, cd's it's in or other relevant information, please tell me.
Thanks ^_____^
Nevermind that one, the name of the song was
Yume no tsubasa
Thanks anyway
that was cool.
The plot is quite similiar to Cardcaptor Sakura. Instead of having to retrieve the Clow Cards, they must retrieve Sakura's memory.
It takes how long to go to another world? About six episodes! I'm guessing that this would be a long anime. It is way too repetitive. Unlike Cardcaptor Sakura, which sort of have something else in the story other than just retrieving the Clow Cards, Tsubasa Chronicles is moving way too slowly! The manga is not very different from the anime, but somehow, it seems better than the anime.
Sakura doesn't have the cheerfulness she had in CCS. Even if she was cheerful, it was a bit weird. She looks a bit different from the cheerful character in CCS in so many ways. More sad... Instead of cheerful. -.-
hey everyone, stop hitting on tsubasa, its supposed to be a BOYS manga, and ccs was a girls one. You can't really truly compare them without realizing that first. And tsubasa is sorta SUPPOSED to be like ccs. god, you guys sure are critical X.X
this books are the best!!! Everyone should read this books cuz you will love them.
I really find the anime definatly did not measure up to the manga. While I am a fan of CLAMP, and I say this in respect to all of their work not just the recent stuff, I'm not sure if I'm really *In Love* with any of their animated versions of anything.
Take, for example, Card Captor Sakura. The manga was very stylized and it is definatly geared for a teenage, if not slighty adult, aduience. The anime (even in Japanese) seems to be targeted for the smaller bits of anime watchers that are between the ages of 10 and 14. That kind of sucked.
And X: 1999. God the manga (I think it was originally titled Tokyo Babylon- X:1999) was actually *readable* I saw the anime and wanted to claw my eyes out. Ugh, I almost didn't read Tsubasa:Resevoir Chronicles because of the stigma of X:1999.
I think the seiyuu were the same as The Card Capter Sakura anime, weren't they. Better Google that.
Misuki, maybe she can't remember she's supposed to be happy, Lol.
Hi, I've read some comments concerning the songs on Tsubasa Chronicle episode one, The title of the song (the one that started when sakura opened the emblem on the ruins) is THE SONG OF STORM AND FIRE, anyone who wanted the mp3 for that one, i have it, just email me and I'll forward it to those who want it. danavalkyrie@yahoo.com
Im not sure about trying this anime...as everyone has said bfore the bodies are kinda thin for the old Card Captor Sakura heads.
But i like the story and the voices. The songs are also good but comparing this with the manga version... o.O!!
I had read about this anime before but i've just realized that i prefer the manga version.
I love this show...where can i watch the ALL the episodes online.
very very cool:)
I know it is like tottally awesome.
:) *
hey.... the anime has certainly lost the manga style.. i agree..
does anyone know were you can see it or where you can find the manga?
you know i'm very excieted to see card captor sakura and tsubasa chronicles .....its totally nice and full of magic and romance..........wow awesome thank you clamp
Well for all of you who are asking is it a spin off
well sorta more like a cross over, however this happens sometime after CCS as those who read the manga will find out around chapter 189-190 (wont tell you how long after)
also we only ever see one "syaoran"-kun
also the anime kind of just stops (tokyo revelations OVA) just when the stoy gets really interesting
for those who want to see it you can download Veoh tv from Veoh.com and its a nice little handy program that allows you to search the internet for videos also it has regualr tv channels on it (i watch my smallville and heroes on it)
for those who want to read it i know that there is a Msn group that hosts it but here is a website where you can read many mangas (i use it for bleach and tsubasa reservoir chronicle) http://manga.bleachexile.com
HI! ITS MARIEDEL MOHAMAD AGAIN I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT TSUBASA CHRONICLES IS VERY WONDERFUL AND FULL OF ROMANCES.
I WISH SOMEONE WOULD GIVE ME A CD.
