Tokyo Game Show 2006: PS3 Day 1

This weekend marks the annual Tokyo Game Show, a major game exhibition in Japan. Most people who are into gaming have probably read most of these stuff and these are mostly just for my own reference so I don't have to hunt and seek the trailers all over again when I want to see them. But if you can find some use to this, then that's good too. Personally, I think these trailers are okay. I think most of them still need more development time and polish. I hope that by the time the game is complete and out in the market, it'll be a whole lot better. Anyway, I'll update with more info as the exhibition progresses but for now, I'll return to my regular review, starting with Welcome to NHK!.

The 20GB PS3 will now include HDMI. In addition to this, the price has been lowered to 50,000 Yen in Japan. This will be quite a help for those who were considering of getting the 20GB one. Assuming you can get that version to begin with.

Devil May Cry 4

The continuation to the popular series unfortunately won't feature Dante as the main character (although IIRC, he will appear halfway through the story). A character called Nero (warning: link contain spoiler) will instead take Dante's place as the lead of the story. There is rumbling that Capcom can render the game at 100fps using PS3.

Metal Gear Solid 4

I am personally a bit disappointed with the trailer. The textures look rather low-res and I think the characters need more polygon. I am also tired of that green tint. I think it's about time Kojima retired that stylistic tint. I hope this is because the game is still work in progress and is nowhere close to completion like Resistance: Fall of Man below. On a pettier level, I'm not keen on playing as Grandpa Snake. Although there is an intriguing development at the end of the trailer.

The first-person shooter game from Insomniac studio, the creator of Rachet and Clank is one of the nicer looking games that is shown at TGS 2006. It's unfortunate that I suck big time at FPS and dislike the genre in general. Having said that, I'm tempted to play this since it has some horror element in it.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma

This is basically a remake of the Ninja Gaiden series on the X-Box. The character modelling on Hayabusa Ryu has been upgraded but I wish Tecmo will also upgrade the texture since some of them look quite plain. For example, compare the character model for Hayabusa Ryu, which although have been upgraded, doesn't seem to be as smooth as that of Rachel, the new playable character which looks as if she was modeled specifically for the PS3 version. The difference looks a bit jarring though. Rachel looks like she belongs in a different game.

White Knight Tale

White Knight is PS3 brand new RPG from Level 5 the creator of Rogue Galaxy. The demo shows an interesting real-time battle and some good graphic. The combo attack looks impressive too.

Ridge Racer 7

I admit that I have never been a fan of racing games until I played Ridge Racer on PSP. Now that I now how to slide properly, I'm quite excited for this, full on console version.

I wasn't that impressed with the build that was shown back in E3 but this is a lot closer to the teaser they showed a year ago. Plus, the game looks kind of fun.

Monster Kingdom: Unknown Realms

I think this is an in-house RPG game from Sony. The trailer looks really good and mysterious. The man with the glasses for some reason reminds me of Morita Sr. from Hachikuro.
