Well, here I am with a recap of Texhnolyze instead of doing a brand new Winter series. I wish I can do otherwise but I do have a lot of older titles backlog which I must complete sooner or later and I already promised someone that I'll do at least 2 episodes of this series now. Upon watching the episodes, however, I realised that it'll be better if I cover ep.8-10 since these 3 episodes formed the final half of the Yoshii arc. With that in mind, here's the 3 episodes that everyone's been waiting for. :P Oh all right, so it may not be the most exciting series out there. In fact, watching the series feel like watching a group of people living their daily life in hell. But if you're interested to see a series that has a social commentary or two, then this maybe what you're looking for. If that's not enough reason, there's always Yoshitoshi Abe's awesome character design to see.

Texhnolyze ep.5-7

I never thought it is possible, but the mood of the series has gone from dark to darker. At one point during the show, I tried to imagine what it feels like to live in a place like Luchs but quickly realised that this is not such a pleasant thought to have. The city looks like the pit of hell, where never-ending misery and madness happen over and over again to the characters. What is worse is the fact that inevitably, the characters are slowly begin to change for the worse due to the unfortunate circumstances that happen to them. Because of this, it's really hard for me to sympathise with any characters in the series except for Ichise and Ran. It is rather depressing, therefore, to also see these two slowly unravelling and changing possibly not for the better either.

Texhnolyze ep.1-4

I finally get to watch this new Yoshitoshi ABe/Chiaki Konaka's series and what an interesting show this one turns out to be. The opening animation itself is already quite unusual for an anime series due to its frantic and disorienting graphic. In addition to this, the use of Juno Reactor song, Guardian Angel gives the opening a rather creepy tone the first time I saw it. The series unfortunately has been getting some negative reviews from viewers who were turned off by the first episode, which some claimed as undecipherable.

I have to disagree with them because I think this series is far more easier to follow than Serial Experiments: Lain or Boogiepop Phantom. So if you are a fan of those series, please give Texhnolyze a try. Having said that, I do realise that this may not be the series for everyone. So if you require your anime to be light and fluffy, then you may want to stay away from this one since Texhnolyze contains mutilation, some sexual situations (often mixed with mild violence), and features gloomy and depressing atmosphere.
