Teshima Aoi - Teru no Uta | Mirror (24.1MB, for PSP/Quicktime)
This is the song that currently sits in at number 7 on the Oricon Weekly Top 30. The song, which is titled Teru no Uta is the main theme for the upcoming Ghibli's feature film, Gedo Senki. I have to admit that I didn't really like the song when it was used within the trailer. Back then I thought the song feels a bit depressing at times. Thankfully the full version of the song is a lot better and the PV gives the impression of a grand adventure. Maybe it's just me but this is actually the first time I've heard about this singer. I also get the impression that Ghibli tends to use singers who usually are not that popular within the animation industry. In a way, it helps to distinguish their film from other animated features. Ghibli's theme song usually lends out a folklore kind of atmosphere to the movie.
Kanji/Kana version

She has an amazingly calming/pure voice. It's a wonderful song and I think her voice is perfectly fitting.
Go Aoi.
I am looking forward to this film (I am a huge fan of the ghibli prodcutions) regardless of director. I think Goro will do a good job. The trailers show me tons of promise.
I can't wait =)
The song, written in predominatly pentatonic scale found in eastern asian childern's folk songs, and orchestrated mainly in classical European mode with occassional exotic decorations, is decent, but lacking of clear identity. It is bit repetitive without full developement of good simple theme, but understatedness of the music would make it great material to build library of BGM for the film. The singer's voice is good in standard of popular music singers, but there are many things to be desired if you view from more classical singing perspective.
Isn't Teshima Aoi a newcomer to the anime industry? I think I remember seeing a Japanese news clip about the film discussing how director Miyazaki Goro fell in love with her voice.
She's also the voice actress for the heroine of the film. As far as I can tell (which isn't much), this is her first seiyuu role.
Yarg, both uploaders hate my ISP... I wonder if you've ever come across http://www.turboupload.com ...
Ah whatever. I've heard the song somewhere and have been trying to "get" it from various places but to no avail. Yet.
I think wontaek is being a little too harsh on the song.... but I guess if you're dealing with Ghibli people expect you to be perfect.
Myself, I'm still excitedly waiting to hear the real theme song that reportedly won't ever be heard until the actual show is screened. Akino Arai, I trust you will do a good job!
Wao, I can try uploading it to turboupload but I can't do it until tomorrow since I don't have the file with me at the moment. Unless, of course, someone else who has the file does it for you.
Edited to add: Sorry Wao, Turboupload didn't seem to be responding when I typed the address. Maybe it's temporarily down so I ended up putting it on Yousendit.
wao, you can try looking for it at youtube =))
wee i lurrve her voice.
I would like to ask how to use these Megaupload and Rapidshare thingys...
I've been searching for friends and asking but they did not hear it before and until so long, your site finally have something like this...
So therefore, I would like to ask how to use it ...ur... If You May....
Clannad is having a Movie in 2007???---
I love ghibli works, my name (Gatobus) is the spanish name for Nekobasu, the catbus in Totoro, one of the best films I've never seen.
Thanks for the link I'll take it.
I would like to ask how to use these Megaupload and Rapidshare thingys...
It's pretty easy really. You just go to the site and follow their instruction. One site will ask you to wait a couple of minute before giving you the download link while others like yousendit usually just give you the link straight away.
On rapidshare, you choose the 'free' option, of course. You have to wait a few seconds but it's not that long. You then have to enter authentication words into a box and press 'download'. With rapidshare, you also have to make sure to download it within a few seconds after they give you the link or else you'll have to repeat the process.
Megaupload is more easy. You just go to the site and after a few minutes, they provide you the download link (usually hidden behind the ad, click on the close button on the ad to close it). Yousendit is the easiest of them all. I think it will give you the link right away.
Ah yay!! Thanks Garten! Thank you very much. I'm enjoying it quite a lot now.
Kyon: Thanks, but I wanted to download it (I've heard there were some ways of downloading off youtube but I wasn't entirely sure) and the soudn quality isn't always too good on those.
Thank you very much for this! I'm am already a fan of hers. The video is so calm, it fits the song well.
is there anyone who has the mp3 full version of this song ? can u send it to my address ? thanks alot
It's a very peaceful but moving song. I love anything from Studio Ghibli and the soundtracks. This is one of the top songs I've heard as one of the theme songs of their movies. I can't wait until they release Gedo Senki in Australia. Goro Miyazaki, as Hayao's son, would show talent throughout this film.
I am looking forward to this Song. I love it fist hear.Thank you for PV.
Thank you for makinig this available. Nowm, sorry for asking too much, but does anyone have the English translation of the song? If you could kindly share, I would very much appreciate it. :)
Hi. I'm from Japan. I tried to translate the song's lyrics to English using a dictionary.
But my English is so poor. So I think they must have many mistakes. Please feel only the atmosphere.
Don't take it as is.
-------
Twilight on the clouds a hawk is flying always alone.
He must be sad.
In the wind without no sounds he cannot rest his wings clutching the air.
What can I compare my heart to, my heart is like he's.
What can I compare my heart to, I feel sad just like wheeling in the sky.
At a rock shadow in drizzling rain a flower is small in bloom.
She must be painful.
In the rain with dim colour she has no one to touch and love her faint pink petal.
What can I compare my heart to, My heart is like she's.
What can I compare my heart to, I feel painful like as being exposed to the rain.
On a path through a field whitch is almost empty you are walking with me.
You must feel lonely too.
On the grassrand where the insects chirp you and I walking together.
But you hardly talk.
What can I compare my heart to, My heart is going alone.
What can I compare my heart to, What can I compare this lonliness to.

*Today in Japan. the movie "Gedo Senki" was premiered. I've not seen the movie yet though I want to.
But the movie is not so reputable on the internet bulletin boards. I think the cause is come from the
many differences between the movie and the great original book("Earthsea":Gedo Senki's story is mainly
based on The 3rd volume) and also from the rookie director's crudeness.
I'm afraid to see the movie but I'll try and judge myself.
Dear Tera,
thank you very much for your translation. I just bought this single from Japan and back home in Thailand today. I fell in love with the song and tried to understand its meaning. You have helped me a lot.
In the CD shop, I found another CD album of Gedo Senki with her name on it. But I am not sure, what's it about so did not buy it. I would feel sad, if I will realize later that Aoi also sang all those 10 songs. :-(
Bie, Aoi did sing all ten of those songs. She released a debut album on the same day that they released the soundtrack for the movie...I think. I'm sorry that you would feel sad.
I read somewhere that her album didn't do as well as the "Teru no Uta" single. I hope she does well in her other future releases.
Although i cannot understand what she is singing as I am not a Japanese...but I feel sadness in this song....
SO nice hear her song......I feel that I'm in the black world coz her song seem sad to me but also have something doesn't nice
I found another translation to the song in this site: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEgFRgaP0Q0
(translated by serenitydragon)
In the dusk behind the clouds
A hawk is flying always alone
He will surely be sad...
In the wind where is no sound
His wings take the air
Not able to rest...
How do I express
this mind like a hawk?
How do I express
my sadness that whirls the sky?
Somebody crossing a field, nobody has passed
Walking that path together with me
You will surely be lonely...
On a grassy plain where insects are chirping
We are making a journey together
without saying anything...
How do I express
my mind that goes alone?
How do I express
my loneliness that is alone?
In response to wontaek, actually... I think the simplicity of the song, and the childlike timbre of Aoi's vocals really bring this song to life as what it is: a folk song of Earthsea, sung by a child. It really isn't for consideration in a classical sense at all, and I'm surprised it's being so well accepted as a pop song, even. I think they've achieved exactly what they set out to do: capture the innocence of folk song.
Anyone hear anything else on Toki no Uta, the ending theme? I'm looking for those lyrics.
its such a sad yet very nice soothing breezy song and i fell in luv with it at once. she have such a luvly voice that blends well with the music ..and the lyric is so beautiful (which i read from the english translation (^_^)) that makes u wanna listen more and more..
it's not just her voice; the music itself is beautiful. those interludes are just.... wow. they blew me away the first time i listened to the song.
teshima's voice is sooooo lovely. it's very pure and sweet, like a little girl's singing voice. it made me cry. really.
This song, as it was released on the trailer, was what made me want to watch the whole film. The scenery in the trailer was pretty, but I had never read Earthsea and knew next to nothing about it. But hearing this sung, I just had to see how this beautiful song went with the scenery that was showing in the trailer. I wasn't disappointed at all.
In response to Charmedseed's comment, the lyrics to "Toki no Uta" are as follows (in romanji):
sora no kodoku na taka yo

I don't have a translation for this, but if someone wants to translate it here, please be my guest.
Her's the traslation I got for this song if anyone wants it.
=^-^=
Far, far above the clouds, against the setting sun
A falcon flies alone, soaring in the wind
I hear his loney cry, so lonely he must be
Riding the silent wind, a falcon flies alone
Reaching out with his wings, he grasps the empty sky
Riding the silent wind, never can he rest
What is within my heart, none can ever know
A heart like the falcon's is this very heart
Lonely like the falcon in an empty sky
I walk along in deserted country roads
Walking with me side by side, you are always there
I can feel your loneliness, loney you must be
Crickets are whispering in the grassy fields
You walk with me by my side, you walk the path with me
But you never say a word, never do you speak
What it is within my heart, none can ever know
Here inside this heart, a path it walks alone
What it is within my heart, none can ever know
Is the sadness of one who always walks alone
The song made me cry when I first heard it.
I'ma crybaby
Nyah! ^0^
