Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru - Trailer (11.8MB, for PSP/Quicktime)

I mentioned in an entry below that Miyazaki Aoi decided not to reprise her role as Hachi in NANA 2 movie. Out of interest, I decided to find out which film she ends up starring in instead. Much to my surprise, the film is Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru. I've been keeping track of this film's progress for a while because it's an adaptation of Ichikawa Takuji's novel, Renai Shashin: Mou Hitotsu no Monogatari. Lately, however, I've forgotten about it and it's not until today I found out that it's been released in Japan on the 28th of October this year. Ichikawa Takuji's previous movie adaptation, Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu, was one of the best films I've had the pleasure to see so I hope that this one will be as good as that one. Anyway, this film stars Tamaki Hiroshi (Nodame Cantabile) and Miyazaki Aoi (NANA). The main theme is performed by Otsuka Ai and titled Renai Shashin. I've included the trailer as well since the one on the official site is a pain to stream.

The story is about a photographer called Makoto (Tamaki Hiroshi), who travels to New York during Christmas to look for his best friend, Shizuru (Miyazaki Aoi). The two first met when Makoto attended his university entrance ceremony. Due to his inferiority complex, Makoto tends to shy away from other people but Shizuru managed to make him open up to her. Because of their friendship, Shizuru also ended up taking an interest in photography and the two often went to a forest to take pictures. Shizuru wants nothing else but to be by Makoto's side so when he started liking another girl called Miyuki (Kuroki Meisa), Shizuru decided that she too will like Miyuki and becomes her friend. One day, Makoto asked Shizuru what present she'd like to receive for her birthday. Shizuru, who wanted to enter a photography competition, had an idea to take a picture of the two of them kissing in a forest. Makoto agreed to do this and the two kissed for the very first time. Ever since that day, however, Shizuru disappears from Makoto's life.

The one thing that sets Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu apart from other romance films is the strong plot and the surprising twist at the end of the film. Because of this, I'm hoping this film will get similar treatment. I realise that on a glance, this film sounds like a typical romance film but I am holding out a hope that there is some kind of nifty twist to the story. Maybe instead of paranormal situation, we have time and space distortion. Well, at least that's the impression that I get from the trailer when Makoto suddenly disappears from Shizuru's side. As a side note, I've heard the main theme for the film, Renai Shashin and I thought it's a nice soundtrack for the series. Having said that, I don't think it's as strong as Orange Range's Hana, (Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu main theme). Renai Shashin is a bit hard to get into at first. However, after listening to the song for a good few minutes, I realise that it's actually a rather rich composition despite the repetition in lyrics.

I actually watched this last week and in my opinion, I liked Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu more than this movie. Both movies are very touching and sweet but this one lacked something that I can't quite pinpoint.

I'm a girl (not sure if that matters) and when I watched Ai ni Yukimasu I was in tears at the end ...even after watching that movie a 5th time and knowing how it was going to end, I still cried. This one not so much. I really like the friendship formed in the movie but towards the end things got a little bit too predictable. It could just be me, since I've seen all kinds of scenarios that can play out in romance stories.

Of course, all of this is just my opinion. I still think movie is pretty good and it's worth viewing. One thing I must say about this movie is that it really inspired me to go out and do more photography.

I re-watched Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu recently (for the 10th time, maybe) to upgrade the screenshots on this site and I agree that it's hard not to be affected by the ending. It really is one powerful film.

I want to see this film knowing quite well that it may end up looking like a typical romance stories. The trailer plays out like one as opposed to the trailer for Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu, which played out more like a mystery story.

I think the only way you can get Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu is by buying it. YesAsia sells Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu awesome boxset for $33.49. Or if you just want the film, there's The DVD only version which will only cost you $18.49.

The only way you can watch Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru is unfortunately to watch it in Japanese cinema. The film just started a few days ago, obviously there is no DVD or anything like that. I assume jcblink have seen it because she lives in Japan.

I live in Japan so I have easy access to the newer movies here. Plus I saw it a second time on an ANA flight to Hong Kong last week. It's weird that they have it on their flights already but they do and it's a lot lower in quality (obviously).

As for Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu, I actually found a bittorrent on it but I loved the movie so much that I bought the boxset so I can watch it on my tv. I don't have the files on my computer anymore and I don't know where I found the bittorrent so I can't help you there.

Miyazaki Aoi is ridiculously adorable. Such a pity she doesn't return as Hachi in NANA 2.

@ anyone whom has read the book
Is there an English translation for the book? And is it published in English? If so I'd like to get a hold of a copy.

I found out about this movie since May of this year because there were rumors about what Ai Otsuka's next single will be and so forth. Ever since I saw the teaser trailers on the site, I WANT to see this. And I wanna see it more because it has Aoi in it and the storyline sounds interesting. And I personally like the theme song.
