Tackey and Tsubasa - Koiuta (32MB, PSP/Quicktime format) | YouTube version
Update: The 20 minute drama is included below.
This is one of the pre-scheduled posts that I set up in case I can't post any episodic reviews. If you see this then it means Movable Type did its job as it should. If not, then maybe it's time to change blogging software. Anyway, I first heard about Takki (or "Tackey") and Tsubasa when I went to Japan 3 years ago but never been bothered to look for their songs like I do with Ketsumeishi or Kobukuro's works. The name "Takki and Tsubasa" comes from combination of the two singers' name: Takizawa Hideaki and Tsubasa Imai. They are two of the most popular Japanese idols from Johnny and Associates. This particular company usually raises my alarm bell since some of the company's 'talents' seem to be lacking in singing (or acting) talent. It's a good thing that I heard the song first from Osen without knowing who sing it. This way, I judged the song based on its own merit instead of who sang the song. At any rate, they turn out to be pretty good singers and the song is a perfect fit for their singing style.
This particular PV is quite close in theme to the song lyric. There are actually two versions of the PVs. One is the "TV" version and the other is the "Koiban" version. I have ordered both CDs but due to my current circumstance, I wouldn't be able to see either one for now. As a result, I have no idea which version this one is supposed to be. This one starts with someone saying that angels must not interfere a person's fate. If they do, they'll lose their eternal life and will cease to exist. The PV is basically about an Angel (played by Takki) who falls in love with a blind woman. There's also a man (played by Tsubasa) who also likes the same woman. Apparently there's a full 20 minute drama which tells the entire story but I haven't had the chance to look for it so if you like the song, you may want to look for that one as well. PV aside, this is a really good song. Although after reading the lyrics and hearing the slightly melancholic (but hopeful) tone from the song, I can't help but wonder how the song is related in anyway to Osen.
20-minutes mini drama: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Kanji/Kana version

I really agree with you on this minus the fact I'm an almost full-blown Johnny's Ent fan~ they don't release singles & PVs as often as the other groups do (ok I should stop before I start a rant) but I wouldn't say they are the most popular, I'd say they have a very loyal bunch of fans & their concerts are very fan-oriented (which is scary thinking about thousands able to sing and dance to what's on stage)
I have only managed to get the 5min vers and hopefully the 20min vers will arrive soon.
I believe its their first story/drama PV and the caps from news programs seems rather good.
You're right. the song fits the drama.. I am a fan of the series, so I was waiting and waiting for this pv to come out and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
yes, your software works, but garten, you know we'll all wait for you. i was checking out this post, and was so happy to see osen now has an archive--2 posts!
as for koi uta --i liked the ED right away, whereas the OP took a while to grow on me. and i couldn't be more thrilled that the ED version doesn't have an awkward bridge or awful english, so i don't have to seek out the ever-elusive OST. thank you especially for including the lyrics. i'll report back after checking out osamu mukai's undoubtedly awe-inspiring performance in ep. 7 ;p
Hi there - I'm so glad that I have found your site.
I have been searching for their lyrics (romaji) for days. Your's the only completed and correct version.
I hope you don't mind sharing the romanised lyrics with me...
I never knew there was a 20 minute video until I read your review. I"m really glad I found your site. I watched it, maybe it was a bit lost on me but I really like the song and images in the video.
I'm also not quite sure how it fits to the drama. I only watched 1 episode of the drama and so far it seems like a light hearted one.
Thanks for reviewing this!
Actually I got the chance to see the drama movie for this song, and seeing the English translation I can imagine how it relates to the drama Osen, the apprentice - Ezaki is always looking at the okami where he works - Handa Sen. So far I think in several episodes things occur where he understands the stress and longing that she goes through and does actions that he wouldn't express in words. (I think there's a love match going)
