Spring Anime 2: KonoMini

March 25, 2004 | 0 Comments

Here is the second Spring Anime which I hope will be interesting. Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushii Sekai (This Ugly and Beautiful World) or KonoMini for short. The series is created by Gainax. The same animation studio who was responsible for series such as Evangelion, FLCL, Kareshi Kanojou no Jijyou (His and Her Circumstances) and Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai. Unfortunately, at this point in time, nothing much is known about this particular anime and the preview movie given inside Animage magazine was devoid of any dialogue between the characters (you can only hear this nice but rather ominuous Gregorian song).

Anyway, from what I can gather so far, the story is about a boy called Takeru Takamoto who one day encounter a strange looking coocon inside a forest. From the coocon, a beautiful girl called Hikaru comes out (naked, of course, since this is being Gainax's show after all). But then a strange looking monster attacks the girl and the two are forced to get rid of it. The whole show looks like a combination of angsty post-apocalyptic show like Eva and a fan service pretty girl show like Mahoromatic. There also seems to be two other main characters Akari, who seems to be related to Hikari, and Ryo Ninomiya, who I think is Takeru's best friend. The title seems to be derived from Hikari's POV that the seemingly ugly encounter that she had with the monster was also beautiful because that was when she first met Takeru.
