Some of you are probably already aware of this but I thought I should write something about it to make it official. It's probably a good idea to do it now since people tend to bring a bunch of spoilers into Death Note, D.Gray-man, and Kanon entry. Anyway, here's the thing, I've recently managed to implement a spoiler tag for the site. Because of this, if you want to write a spoiler, please put them inside a spoiler tag like in the example I show below:
<spoiler>write your spoiler here</spoiler>
It's basically just a simple opening and closing HTML tag. And please notice that it's just "Spoiler" (singular) and not "Spoilers" (plural). The spoiler tag won't appear when you preview it and it looks like your spoiler is not contained in it. But if you do the tag correctly, then it should be executed once you post the message. Anyway, consider this entry your testing area. Give the tag a try so you'll get used to it.
In other site-related news, this week marks the release of Internet Explorer 7. As much as I prefer Firefox, it can't be denied that there are those who prefers to use IE and will make an upgrade to version 7. I have tested the site myself and there doesn't seem to be any problem since this site was designed to be XHTML 1.0 compliant and IE7 was designed to be the most CSS-compliant IE browser. Having said that, if you notice something that is out of place in that browser, please let me know. I'm just happy that this version is released because hopefully people will stop using previous version of IE.
Honey and Clover News
This months see the release of the first volume of Honey and Clover II. The first-pressing extra for the DVD is a Whip-chan phone strap. The cover will feature Yamada Ayumi illustrated by Umino Chika. There is also a rumour that Kamiya Hiroshi will re-dub Takemoto's voice for the DVD version of Episode 12 but I'm not sure if it's true or not.
CD Japan also reveals that the DVD version of live action Hachikuro will contain English subtitle. There will also be a new Honey and Clover CD on sale this December. The CD is called Honey and Clover Complete Best. It apparently will contain all of the OP and ED theme. I'm hoping that this will be the CD that includes the instrumental version of "Dramatic" and "Waltz". The CD will come with a free 40 pages booklet and DVD.
Here's an example: Spoiler follows:
The spoiler tag won't appear when you preview it and it looks like your spoiler is not contained in it. But if you do the tag correctly, then it should be executed once you post the message.
FUN!
Hi when I was at Otakon this summer I heard a rumor from a reliable source that a company had picked up the honey and clover anime here in the US. I was wondering if you knew anything about that rumor?
I'm sorry but I'm afraid I don't know. I heard that rumour too but since no one came out and announced anything, I suspect whoever owns the right is still trying to sort a few things out (most likely the insert song - they'll be hell to license).
awww poor takemoto -_-
Hope this works...
ZOMG!
Practice
hrm...
Using a combination of CSS to create a spoiler-text class and JavaScript to show and hide on a site which purports to be "designed for accessibility" and to provide content "obtainable and functional to any browser or Internet device" seems highly ironic. The normal way to do this is to use gray-on-gray. Although... I can see some advantage if this seemingly overcomplicated trick actually works for text-to-speech converters run by blind users, because grey-on-grey certainly doesn't.
woo

Problem is, this kind of spoiler tag doesn't work on browsers that don't do java. The spoiler hides all right, but it won't open. Not a problem for most people, but if you're like me and do quite a bit of your browsing on a mobile phone, it's a pain. Animesuki has a similar tag for their spoilers, and on Mobile IE, some of their formus are pretty much unreadable. Haven't tried it with Minimo yet, but it didn't install java when it installed, and it's a massive resource hog anyway, and it looks like crap, so it probably doesn't work on there as well. Still, this kind of tag is probably the best option, since it is very simple html, and 99% of the readers are on a full-featured browser. Or at least AOL.
And Garten, speaking of "best" things, when are you going to review Mushishi 24-26?
At the moment my main concern is to hide spoilers effectively. Also remember that you don't have to read spoilers. It's nice to be able to but I consider it an extra option as oppose to a main feature. Most people opt to stay away from spoilers. So I think not being able to read them is not going to kill anyone.
Isn't it the same with the layout of this site? I'm not sure how it looks on portable device but I can imagine it doesn't look like the way you see it on a normal browser. However, the essential information, which is the content, is still intact. And at the end of the day, I'm just striving towards that. If I put spoilers in the content area, I'll just give a fair warning and won't cover it with the tag.
That doesn't mean I'm not thinking about the points that you guys have made. The problem is, I suck at this kind of coding/programming. So if you have any idea or can help me, then let me know. Anyway, I'm thinking of changing to wordpress if there are some clear advantages to it. I've heard they have spoiler tag plugin but I think that's javascript based as well.
I was planning on catching up with one or two old reviews as soon as I finish Death Note 4. The rest I'll have to slot in between days where I have nothing to do but hopefully it won't be long.
Testing
I do hope you do the 2nd episode of Nodame Cantabile which came out yesterday.
Playing around spoiler tag for a bit:
For Wordpress owners, the spoiler tag plugin does require you to slightly modify the kses.php core file.
damn, I used the spoiler tag randomly at the kekkaishi thread without knowing it existed. :p
kinda a habit out of using it in IPB forums
Hey Garten, I actually have the instrumental version of Waltz and Dramatic
I wonder if this'll work...
double spoiler fun with cheese
Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to do something that complex. Plus, it's an overkill to put a spoiler tag inside another spoiler tag.
nice implement ^_^b
does it work?
Sorry to double comment, but Yi, can you find a way to upload it? or just send it? Cause I would like to hear it also :D
VIZ licensed Hachikuro... I think it's been confirmed since I read an article about it but can't remember where I read it xD;;
I'm happy it's licensed, but VIZ... well, maybe they'll treat it nicely.
i know a secret but im not telling.
