This episode explains why Stein wanted Black Star to fight against Chrona instead of Maka. I don't think we'll ever find out how different the result of the fight would have been if Black Star went against Chrona but you can debate it if you choose to do so. I think if this had been Black Star, he'd have dealt with Chrona more effectively. In addition to this, Maka and Soul probably won't have to deal with the repercussion of using the Black Blood to win the battle. Having said that, the whole Maka and Soul turning dark fits with the whole "the kishin closest to us" idea. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with the dark power that they have now obtained from the Black Blood.

Continuing from the previous episode, Black Star agrees to let Maka deal with Chrona. Chrona tries to block the guy from leaving but Black Star easily jumps above Chrona and before the he/she can do anything else, Maka already hits the poor kid with her weapon. Maka then tries to beat up Chrona by holding the sexually ambiguous kid using the scythe while she punches Chrona's face. Eventually Maka manages to knock Chrona a couple of feet back by kicking her opponent in the face. Ragnarok, however, is not impressed and threatens to kill Maka before killing Black Star later on. Instead of being afraid, Maka is happy that Ragnarok is finally acknowledging her as an enemy. Before they resume the fight, Maka asks Chrona for a name and when she gets it, Maka seems to be quite satisfied. Soul, however, is shocked when Chrona cuts his/her own vein so Maka explains that Chrona is going to attack them with black blood. During the fight, Maka asks Chrona why the kid collecting souls of innocent people so Chrona tells Maka that it's because he/she is afraid. The kid believes that to be strong, she must consume a lot of souls and then she won't be afraid and Medusa won't leave her.

Meanwhile, Stein is interested to know where Medusa gets Chrona for. Medusa claims that Chrona is her own child. A flashback shows Chrona being harshly mentored by Medusa to kill a mini dragoon, the "Ochibi-chan" she referred to a few episodes ago. When Chrona refused to do so, Medusa locked the child inside a dark room and let her get beaten up by Ragnarok, who is already inside Chrona's body at that point. After countless times being locked up inside the dark room and being beaten by an angry Ragnarok, Chrona eventually lost her sanity and ended up killing the mini dragon per Medusa's order. In the present time, the demon within Soul tries to persuade Soul to take up his offer. Soul at first refuses until the demon persuades her by bringing Maka to the argument. As it turns out, thanks to Soul Resonance, Maka can converse with Soul. She points out that she wants to use Soul just like Chrona uses Ragnarok. Soul disagrees with the idea, fearing that Maka will go crazy in the process but Maka is sure that won't happen. In the real world, Chrona is about to hit Maka with her sword when Maka blocks her attempt with a bare hand. Maka, however, also looks slightly crazed thanks to her new ability.

Impression

Chrona's back story is pretty tragic. It's hard to believe that he/she's actually Medusa's real kid. It's no wonder she's really messed up now. She was basically abused and forced to do things that she didn't want to do. I was surprised, however, knowing that Ragnarok was already within her. I thought the creature didn't fuse with her until very recently but it seems that it's already within her even when she was a kid. How did it get there in the first place anyway? Is it because she has the black blood? But how different is Ragnarok in comparison to that red demon in Soul's mind. Can one say that Ragnarok is actually Chrona's split personality? It's interesting that even though Soul is the one with the black blood, Maka is the one who becomes out of control because of it. She looks really psychotic when she stopped the sword with her own hand that I can't wait to see the next episode, where I assume she'll defeat Chrona thanks to her newly obtained power. It's a shame we don't get to see the others fighting but it's probably better this way than going back and forth between different characters.

I'm guessing Medusa used the same method as the original "Kishin" sealed away below Shibusen. Eating the weapon itself. So the weapon basically becomes one with the weapon user. Or she might have done some "experiment" to merge the weapon and the weapon user (or majou, since Chrona is the daughter of Medusa)

Anyways, I can't wait to watch the next episode, too. I was waiting to see berserk Maka this episode but they didn't introduce her until the very end. I wonder if the seiyuu for Maka (Chiaki, was it?) can handle it well, cuz to be honest, I wouldn't call her previous actings superb. ;p

Bad decision by Maka but maybe her getting to know her dark side is a good thing? I think eventually she would of had to deal with the black blood so I guess its better for it to happen early on. It was not going to just go away. Even tho I think for the better of Shibusen and the success of the mission her decision will prove to be the wrong one. I just want to go ahead and see Stein fight Medusa already tho haha.

I was looking forward for the fight with Maka in her bersek mode, but it was good like this, I hope next episode is more action packed.

What I don't understand is why they changed Ochibi-chan from a rabbit to a dragon?

As for Ragnarok I believe it must have been a merge using magic, since Chrona was so little I don't think it was able to eat a sword.

Great Episode !!!

So she really is her daugher? I thought Medusa was lying or speaking in figurative manner.

My guess is 6PM timeslot forced them to censor things. Killing rabbits may induce trauma in some kids' psyche. :P

Spoiler from manga: actually, ragy was melted down into the black blood and swapped with chrona's, as for who he was beforehand we'll probably never know.

Its a shame they switched the bunny from the manga to a dragon, I thought it was more dramatic with her unwilling to kill something innocent

I think it was stated somewhere that Ragnarok was created by Medusa.

why didn't Maka slice Chrona in her first attack? He had "it" right by the waste - could have sliced "it" right in half

"" why didn't Maka slice Chrona in her first attack? He had "it" right by the waste - could have sliced "it" right in half ""

Because the black blood would come out of the open wound making it difficult to injure Chrona and given 'it' another weapon

It's because Chrona's black blood makes it impossible for Maka to injure Chrona with her scythe.

Awww they changed the bunny to a dragon!! And in the manga after Chrona killed the rabbit Medusa goes "We're having rabbit for dinner~~" That was just totally, totally disturbing.

From 20episodes of Soul Eater I just love this episode best. Wordy though , but OMG crazy Maka surprised me. Awesome face XD

Well I don't want to give too much away, but yeah, Maka going crazy is key to defeating/saving Chrona. There's something very Classic Disney-ish about Soul Eater; and by that I mean their kind of toony appearances. Especially Maka's awesomely [taking Mimi's phrase] psychotic new demeanor; I mean it's creepy, but still really cool.
