Well, here it is the big battle between Stein and his students vs. Medusa and her underlings. It should be interesting to see since the students are not exactly inexperienced against fighting some of the enemies. Both Maka and Kidd have face-off against Chrona before so at the very least they should know what to expect. Black Star is kind of clumsy but Devil's Eye is not exactly bright either so it's a match made in heaven. As for Eruka, she doesn't seem to be that powerful but if she is, I'm pretty sure that Kidd can take on her easily. The only one I'm worried about is actually Stein since Medusa has proven herself to be rather powerful. But now that he has Scythe-kun with him maybe his odd is better. I also can't wait to see Blair against those stupid mouse. It should be an easy win for the sexy cat considering that she's powerful and has 8 lives remaining now.
In the aftermath of Shibusen's invasion, Sid apologizes to Shinigami-sama for not being able to send him out. Shinigami-sama, however, tells him not to worry about it and decides to inform the students of the truth. He tells them that there's a Kishin sealed within the school's basement. Apparently before Shibusen, there was a man called Asura. This guy closed his heart and refused to believe in anyone. Although Asura was the strongest amongst the 8 powerful Shinigami warriors, he was always terrified and started to take souls which were not meant to be taken. He eventually turned mad and also devoured the soul of his weapon. In the present time, Kidd explains that his father took Asura's skin and sealed the guy with it. Shinigami then rooted himself in Shibusen and uses his power to prevent the Kishin from moving from here. The problem is that Shinigami has fixed his soul on the ground so even if the Kishin moves, he can't move as well. At the same time, Blair is on her way to the fish seller when she finds the guy and several other townfolks unconscious/hurt due to attack from a bunch of mouse witches. In retaliation, Blair decides to take on the group of witches on her own.
Meanwhile, Stein is relieved when they encounter Maka's father along the way since he was wondering how he can win the fight without a weapon. As the group continues their walk, Stein devises a tactic to ensure that they can reach the destination. He knows that Medusa will try to stop them first so he wants the kids to go past her. He then wants Black Star to face off against Maken while Kidd and Maka to fight Devil's Eye and Eruka. As soon as he said this, Medusa appears so he urges the kids to go past her. Kid manages to avoid the vector arrows easily thanks to his agility on the flying board while Black Star manages to destroy the vectors using his sword. However, Maka has to rely only running through the center of the attack point to avoid all of the arrows that come to her. Eventually she manages to get pass Medusa and before the witch can attack her from behind, Stein already hits Medusa with his power. Medusa thinks it's not a problem that the kids can pass her because Maken is waiting for them. Unknown to her, Kidd manages to pass Chrona so quickly that the later didn't even notice it. Back to Medusa, she finds her feet being stitched to the ground before she was aware of it.
As it turns out, when Stein did a Soul Purge on her body earlier, he also put an electrical charge in Medusa's body. These comes in the form of strings, which allow Stein to stitch her legs to the ground. All of a sudden, Stein runs to Medusa and attack her with Soul Purge on her again. This causes Medusa to get slammed into a wall, effectively stitching her body to it. Before Stein can deliver the final blow, however, a large arrow appears underneath Stein, pushing him to an area that Medusa desires. Medusa then releases her restraint by using her snake before launching herself towards Stein. In retaliation, Stein tries to attack Medusa before her snake can attack him but Medusa raises a bunch of vector protection around her, causing Stein to get knocked back. She explains that there are hundreds of snakes inside her so those who get too close will never get up again. Medusa also tells Stein that what she said at the party was the truth in that she needs Stein. All of a sudden, a bunch of arrows on a ground surrounds Stein. At the same time, Maka and Black Star have an argument about who should face off against Chrona. The episode ends with Black Star agreeing to bow out once she realizes that Maka is serious.
Impression
What the hell was Maka thinking telling Black Star that she'll take on Chrona? I understand that she wants to avenge her previous miserable encounter with the sexually ambiguous he-she, but I'm sure there's a reason as to why Stein wants her to go ahead with Kidd while Black Star takes care of Chrona. I just hope that she doesn't waste her energy with Chrona that she can't do what she's supposed to do later on with the Kishin. Apart from that, this was a very exciting episode. I love how easily Kidd and Black Star avoided Medusa's attack. It's unfortunate that Maka doesn't have Kidd's agility nor Black Star's strength but I always thought that she's the most intelligent of them all and that's why her decision to fight Chrona was rather disappointing. For the first time ever, she lets her desire for revenge wins over the cool, collected tactic she normally uses. Anyway, the next few weeks should be interesting to see. I wonder if Soul will be tempted to just take the power offered by the demon. Also, if Soul becomes slightly demonic, would that also affects Maka? I'm wondering because on the preview it looks like she's half-demonic or something.
When you mentioned that Maka go against Stein's order. I just realized the reason for the conclusion of this arc. If it's her rather than Black star to go ahead, then there won't be mistake which leads to it.
Oh shoot. Are you telling me that her going against Stein's order will cause problem to the mission?
Black Star was to fight Crona because the dark sword can harm her. Maka's far more better suited to fighting Free, as she's aware of his capabilities now and can proceed to outsmart him.
Anyways, the good stuff's coming up, though I'm surprised to see them cover what they did (so far, its been very much 1-to-1 to the manga, this bit seems a little rushed, but then again I guess that's suiting the pace of the actual scenes).
finally, maka's battle next week... hope her seiyuu pulls it off.
i did thought that the preview could have left out maka's face. Showing her sniggering shoulders would have been enough to drive viewers mad with excitement.
Bring on the action, episode 20!
That first Kishin thing is freaky. So he ate his own partner? Creepy.
The reason Stein wanted Black Star to face Chrona is that he's the only one of the three capable of bypassing the Black Blood and attacking the soul directly, which was the method Stein used to defeat him/her in Italy. As far as the switch effecting the outcome of the mission though I don't think it did, if anything Maka and Soul going ahead instead probably would have made things worse due to her high soul perception ability and the influence of the Black Blood.
It's true that Stein want it this way like what Kira-chan and Cj did but I was also thinking about that if maka arrived at the Kishin's room after Kid, rather than black star, would there be any difference in the outcome then?
Maybe if the techs had done it the way Stein ordered them to, there'd be efficiency in terms of power used so when the Kishin comes out they still have enough power to stop him.
Having watched the preview, I wonder if Soul really did accept the little demon's offer.
So it seems to be implying that Soul can see the little demon because of the black blood right?
Does that mean everyone else who also have black blood would be able to see the little demon and be tempted? eg, Chrona?
Like I said, Maka going into the Kishin's room might have made things worse since she'd be more vulnerable to his insanity. Remember that Black Star was resistant to it because of his low soul perception ability.
metatron: No way any of the three would have been able to stop Kishin, Free they might have, but Kishin, definitely not (you'll find out how strong he really is in a couple episodes)
Why do I feel like most characters in this show are retarded - at least 50% of the time?
maybe because they are ^^, which makes it a good show all round, tho i really wish Death didn't care about symmetry quite as much...
I cant wait to see it I also want to know how good Black Star and Kid work as a team
