Scrapped Princess ep.22-24

July 7, 2004 | 13 Comments

Well, I watched these last three episodes with the expectation that I'll be disappointed by it. That turns out to not be the case. There are some holes in the storylines but in general this is a well-crafted series with a good ending. In fact, the resolution to the series almost made me want to shed a tear or two and I don't get sad that easily. I am also impressed with the character design for the show. I haven't done my research just yet but I intend to keep a close eye on the character designer's work after this. The final episode also shows remarkable animation where it seems as if the animators went for broke. The final fight between the Peacemakers and the Dragoon/Gigas is especially memorable mostly because of the action and the stirring soundtrack titled Dragoon no Tatakai. It's unfortunate that the overall soundtrack is a mixed bag. But I did manage to find some favourites that remind me of some of the best RPG soundtrack I've ever had the pleasure to listen.

Scrapped Princess ep.19-21

My slow crawl to finish this series is almost close to the end. With three more episodes to go after this, I am well-prepared for the ending. Upon seeing these three episodes, I have to say that so far the series has done a good job of maintaining the tension and the tight plotting. There are also some drool-worthy battle scenes presented in these episodes, presumably to entice the viewers to anticipate the finale. These episodes also show some interesting character development, although strangely, these development are not of the main characters. Come to think of it, so far the most developed characters in this series are actually the side characters. I simply assume that this is because the main characters started the series with little to no flaw and therefore there isn't much development that can be given to them. Anyway, as I promised, this is one of the series where I'll maintain the essay-like summary so I hope you enjoy it.

Scrapped Princess ep.16-18

After the hectic episode fifteen, these three episodes seem to be comparatively slow and non-eventful. Having said that, it does give the series an opportunity to explain some of the plot points that it has created thus far. I am especially glad to know that the series actually make an effort to explain the perspective of the Peacemakers. Admittedly, their action and reasoning are hard to swallow from our perspective given the fact that we are humans ourselves. Having said that, there are a lot of truths in their arguments and the series does a good job of illustrating this fact throughout the entire series. It's also great to see some of the supporting characters being used efficiently in these episodes. I think in general, the series has done a good job in the development of the characters.

Scrapped Princess ep.13-15

I just realised that I have a rather long list of previous seasons' anime that I haven't completed yet. I normally like to take my time with them but it's a bit overwhelming right now due to the sheer amount of new series that I try to watch. Having said that, I don't want to drop them off my watching list either since thus far most of them are actually quite good. I guess I just have to keep doing it as much as I can while keeping up with the new series. Speaking of the older series, Scrapped Princess is getting more and more interesting now that I've finished the first half of the series. The series has definitely answered the majority of the mysteries thus far even if those answers are provided in expository manner. And those answers in some ways explain why Pacifica is referred to as "the girl who will destroy the world" by the other characters in the show.

Scrapped Princess ep.10-12

This series seems to be larger and more epic with each episode and it especially shows in these three episodes. It is also obvious by now that the series intents on developing the supporting characters we have met thus far beyond their one-off appearance. It's nice to know, for example, that even though Chris is not travelling together with Pacifica and the others, he is actually as involved as the Casulls in the entire Scrapped Princess matter. This is achieved by intersecting his investigation with the current adventure that Pacifica and her foster siblings go through as they travel from one area to the next. In more ways than one, Chris' investigation supplies additional informations that we otherwise won't get if we only follow the Cassuls' adventures.

Scrapped Princess ep.7-9

One of the things that impresses me about this series is the part where it has always been able to introduce new characters on a regular basis while still manages to develop the existing characters as well as the story. Because of this, the world of Scrapped Princess feels vast and immense. There's a sense that the entire show is one big adventure for the three main protagonist, Pacifica, Shannon, and Raquel. On top of that, these new characters often shows another side of the main characters that we'll otherwise won't see if they only interact with one another.

Scrapped Princess ep.4-6

December 22, 2003 | 1 Comments

When I saw the first three episodes of this series, I said that that this series needs to improve its pacing. Imagine my surprise to find out that not only episode 4-6 do exactly that, they also unleashed many interesting questions, mysteries, and backstories on top of it. On top of that, these episodes managed to make the characters even more sympathetic. I'm also glad to find that the attitudes, intentions, and allegiances of some of the characters turn out to be quite different than what I previously thought. Or rather, the attitudes and intentions of the characters changes as the series progresses.

Scrapped Princess ep.1-3

December 9, 2003 | 0 Comments

I finally got the chance to watch this show after hearing so many good recommendations about it. The show does look promising although the early episodes seem to be rather slow in its execution. Thankfully, the show is full of interesting characters and their interactions with one another has thus far been very entertaining. Before I talk about the plot in great detail, however, I better cut this entry to avoid spoiling people who want to watch this show without prior knowledge of the story.
