Wow. That was just plain awesome storytelling. Just like other tragic stories, what transpired in this episode is not exactly the mistake of one person, or in this case, one doll. A series of misunderstanding between the dolls and each doll's competitive nature towards each other are the reasons they end up being enemies now. I still can't get over the fact that such intricate relationship gets to be shown in an OVA, something that is normally used to just milk the franchise. Instead of showing pointless battle like other series' OVA, this one actually delves into the motivation of Suigintou, Shinku, and Souseiseki. At the end of this short-lived OVA, the viewers will know why Suigintou hates Shinku/Souseiseki and why Shinku hates Suigintou as well. This one also shows that 'Father' is probably not as cruel as we thought.

I think Sunrise has a lot to learn from Peach Pit when it comes to producing an OVA. This is how an OVA should have been made: to fill in the gaps that could not have been filled during the original TV series. I thought this OVA would focus exclusively on Suigintou but as it turns out, it actually also shows events that happened within Traumend but could not be shown during the original TV series because it would be spoil Traumend's revelation. Animation-wise, this is a solid work which looks a bit better than Traumend. At times like this I wish TBS cease their 4:3 screening format. This episode would have look better in Widescreen format. Unfortunately the widescreen won't be available until the 11th of January next year on BS-i and I don't think I have the patience to wait that long.

Rozen Maiden Ouvertüre OP - Baragoku Otome (11.5MB, for PSP/Quicktime)
Baragoku Otome is the opening theme for the upcoming 2 days TV special Rozen Maiden Ouvertüre. This is basically a creditless OP theme video which you can get if you buy the limited edition Baragoku Otome CD. The song, in tradition of other Rozen Maiden series, is performed by ALI PROJECT. Despite this, the song feels a bit different from other Rozen Maiden opening. It seems a lot more subdue and melancholic in delivery and tone. The animation itself is fantastic and features all Rozen Maiden dolls except Barasuishou and Kirakishou. The TV specials themselves will be aired on the 22nd and 23rd December this year and I'm looking forward to see what kind of story the writers will produce for Suigintou.
