I'm sorry for taking longer than usual to write this but I'm a bit feverish at the moment and it feels as if I have a painful 'Mushi' on my throat. Oh well, one more series and I can go to bed. Anyway, if it weren't for the arrival of Canaria, this would feel a lot more like a filler episode. This episode also forces me to realise that Canaria really is moulded from the same personality prototype assigned to HinaIchigo. That means she's a klutz and a bit annoying to boot. Thankfully the animation in this episode remains as consistent as the first two so despite its flaws, the episode remains largely enjoyable. It also helps that Rozen Maiden's comedy scenes are always of the sarcastic and dry types so they are more amusing than annoying.

It's morning at the Sakurada household so that means wacky hijinks as usual. HinaIchigo is making a noise about not being able to see because Suiseiseki has pulled her ribbon apart, Suiseiseki is laughing like an evil witch, while Shinku and Souseiseki are ordering Jun around. Jun is eventually fed up with the dolls and asks them why they have to be in his room. Shinku simply replies that's because a slave's belonging is her belonging and her belonging is her belonging. LOL. While this entire thing happening, a Rozen Maiden doll is secretly observing them from a rooftop, claiming that she finally finds them after 36 failures. She finds Souseiseki and Shinku scary but intends on entering the house to obtain their Rosa Mystica. The doll also mentions that her name is Canaria before falling down into the pavement as she tries to pose with an umbrella on the rooftop.

Anyway, Canaria eventually manages to climb back to rooftop but is disappointed when she realises that Nori and Jun are locking up their house. Inside the house, Nori tells Jun that since Shinku and the others are inside, surely they don't have to lock up the house in such extreme manner. Jun, however, begs to differ. He thinks that if a robber manages to get in, there's no telling what the dolls would do to him/her. In other words, he's far more concerned for the robber than the dolls. Cue in illustrations of the robber being tortured mercilessly by the dolls. Hee. Anyway, Canaria is determined to sneak in through the front door just as Jun is about to leave the house. Unfortunately, the door is too fast for her, so she's forced to retreat to the bush. Canaria tries to calm herself by saying that another one will come out soon, referring to Nori.

True enough, not long after Jun left the house, Nori follows suit. But once again, the door is too fast for Canaria. To make situation worse, Nori accidentally falls onto the ground and drops her glasses near Canaria. So Canaria has no choice but to help Nori find her glasses then flee to safety. Since her plan is foiled once again, Canaria decides to press the doorbell, hoping that someone will open the door. But after countless time pressing the bell, no one opens the door for Canaria. The truth is, inside everyone is going nuts from hearing the bell door but Shinku prohibits everyone from going out so there's nothing they can do about it. Meanwhile, that guy who has a crush on Nori comes to the house to ask Nori out. He, unfortunately, presses the bell when Suiseiseki is on her last nerve. So he gets to be the recipient of a bucket of water.

After her last failure, Canaria decides to sneak in through the toilet but just as she manages to climb inside, HinaIchigo and Souseiseki enters the toilet and finds the window wide open. Souseiseiki decides to close the window but before she can secure the window, Suiseiseki calls the two so Canaria tries to get in again and looks around for her little yellow spirit, Pizzicato. Eeww, it was hiding inside the toilet. Anyway, a couple of minutes later, Shinku and the others are busy watching Kun. So Canaria decides to use the time to investigate the place. But once the show is over, the other dolls hear the sound of creaking door and become afraid of the possibility of a robber. Meanwhile Jun is studying inside a library when Tomoe suddenly appears next to him. Jun is startled by her appearance but is more shocked when Tomoe points out that his bag has been vandalised by the dolls.

Back at the house, Shinku and the others decide to play detective. Shinku even has a Kun Kun Henshin Set™!! It's very amusing to see how proud Shinku is when HinaIchigo tells her that she looks a lot like Kun Kun. Meanwhile, Canaria is seen inside Jun's room but quickly hides herself when she hears Shinku and the others approaching the room. There's a hilarious scene here where Souseiseki manages to guess that someone has definitely enter the room by analysing the room's condition. HinaIchigo and Suiseiseki begin to admire her intelligence, chipping Shinku's pride in the process. Shinku doesn't say anything for a while but later on kicks a chair and tells everyone that she's the leader yo!! LOL. After a while, however, the dolls become tired looking so Shinku orders HinaIchigo to make some tea. However, while she does this, everyone hears a noise from the mirror room.

Everyone decides to check the noise out. However, after quickly looking at the room from outside, Shinku thinks that there is no one inside. Little does she know that Canaria is actually hiding behind one of the items inside the room. Meanwhile, Jun and Tomoe pass by Enju doll as they head home. When Jun enters the shop, he can see Enju in the process of making a set of dolls. Back to the dolls, they eventually meet with Canaria but in the process, creates a mess in the kitchen so Shinku has to use her power to clean up the kitchen. Jun, who feels his Rosa Mystica turning hot, proceeds to rush in back home only to find...another doll. Oh Nooo!! Shinku, however, is more worried with the fact that now that all of the dolls are here, it means.....'Alice Game' will start from here on according to Barasuishou. Wow, these two are like the doll versions of Kamui and Fuuma (X TV). Anyway, next week: Barasuishou vs. Souseiseki. Let the game begins!!

Impression:

One thing for sure comes out of this episode: Shinku is a lousy detective! Oww!! Please don't hurt me! I apologise!! Shinku is a great detective. Anyway, kidding aside, this is an okay episode. It has some funny spots here and there but it feels lacking in comparison to the first two episodes. Towards the end, however, the storyline starts to pick up again. Wow, the tension is certainly thick now. I wonder what will happen now that all of the dolls have met each other. I mean I don't see Canaria going Battle Royale on the others but I can see Barasuishou doing this without any hesitation especially since she....oh I don't know...looks insane? Also, I wonder what Enju is making at the moment. The prototypes look like male dolls but I could be wrong. Either way, next week episode should be far more exciting than this one. I wonder if Souseiseki is going to be okay.

So this is the equivalent of episode 5 of the first season. I'll have to watch this when it gets subbed. I might even watch the whole show since it seems interesting.

The widescreen should be out by today so I think the subs will also be out soon. And no, unfortunately this episode is not as good as episode 5 of last season.

Well, they're all lousy detectives/investigators... (watched a few too many episodes of CSI)

Garten, I got some weird stuff after "Kun-kun Detective Set" in the article. Maybe you were after ™ or ®? In HTML-speak, you write these as ™ and ®.

Melchior, thank you for telling me about the weird character after the Kun Kun Detective Transformation Set. Yeah, it's meant to be a trademark joke but d'oh, it didn't work since I didn't code it in proper html code. Now, I may as well fixed the umlaut. :-)

@Garten: Always glad to help.

@Wesley: Suiseiseki is only about as evil as she is in the anime (that is, she's a troublemaker, but not criminally insane as Suigintou or Barasuishou). The main difference is that in the manga, Suiseiseki never reconciles with her twin in time, and enters into a contract with Jun (I don't know what the order is, but I think the contract came first).

I can't read moonspeak, but from I can look at, Souseiseki was controlled by Suigintou in the manga. It's totally different from the anime, and if you want to download it, look for it in Hongfire's forums.

I had no complaints about this episode..it was great. The new gal is really annoying, but still cute. Yeah, she's alot like HinaIchigo...isn't she annoying enough? Not only this gal is annoying and clumsy...she thinks she's smart..haha. Still a good show. It definitely got interesting at the end.

Sounds like the real story begins now?
