I hope the film is not just a repetition of the old story. On the other hand, I am not sure what kind of angle they can do when it comes down to the storyline.

Animation looks great, character design looks great, Rei looks slightly less loli. All improvements. Since this is the first movie, we don't have to worry about the ep25-26 fail, so as long as this is closer to the Kyon-ichi's Kanon end of the remake spectrum than the Marky Mark's Planet of the Apes end, everything will be okay.

I'd been rather worried about the Eva movies, but so far, it looks perfect: similar enough to the TV series to be unmistakenly Evangelion, yet different enough to warrant being a high-budget movie. DO WANT.

Hmmm... although the original got me kick-started on 'anime' and is a classic and all that jazz, I still think the whole thing is over-rated.

Utada's Fly me to the moon sounds exactly like the remix of the same song that she released a few years back; although I think it's not as bad as you make it out to be-- it kinda grows on you.

Gainax has said that it won't be a straight remake, there will be a new character and mecha, not to mention a lot more addition to the story.

And I actually like the new Fly Me to the Moon remix, though it certaintly isn't the best I've heard.

The art does look a lot better. Haha, even the plethora of power lines looks better. I like the remakes, just because you never have to get that feeling when you go back to rewatch an old favorite only to be annoyed at how bad the art looks.

I wonder if the 5 minute long still-shots will look better (I kid...).

Even though I was a huge NGE fanboy back in the day, I never actually liked any of the Fly Me to the Moon versions. I don't even like the Sinatra version. I didn't think Utada's version was worse than the other versions, but there have been so many remixes that it is hard to keep them all straight.

Shouldn't be hard to make a live action for it. All you need is a black room with a chair, then have the actors do inner monologues for 2 hours, and occasionally flash some cardboards with large words written on it. :)

Okay, so what exactly is the point of these? I mean, the animation in those images looks even crappier now than it did back then. Do we really need ANOTHER freaking retelling of Evangelion some even more additional scenes? What can they add in there that can possibly make this series any good?

Oh boy, another Gundam series turned movie with 13% new footage, 87% recycled footage, and even less of the non-existent plot. Wait, they are calling it Evangelion, which means it must automatically be awesome...

I watched NGE for the first time several years after it had originally aired. I never considered its art or animation to be suck-tastic. It was quite good for its time and *still* is. I'd really suggest to think of different animation/art as difference in style and not quality. Or is any old technique teh sucks just because nobody (due to lazyness or budget) uses it anymore?

I don't think it's wise to judge the rebuild before it actually comes out. After all Surprise is Anno's middle name. Even though the shots look almost identical to the 1995 version, we already know there will be major changes in the plotline at least, with Kaworu showing up early and all that (bt im nt going to fall 4 the 'it will b easy to understand this time' BS)
I have faith in EVA though, it is the greatest work to have came out of the industry and I think it should be given the chance to finish telling the story it started (properly).

Evangelion is a multibillion dollar franchise, which is a lot younger then gundam but is just as widely known. It is also one of the only series that revolutionized the entire Japanese Animation industry, this is proclaimed by even the greatest of Japanese film makers like Hayao Miyazaki.

The Evangelion rebuild is one-handed percent new, there isn't a ounce or restock animation, this is brand new, so read up a bit fools before you take wild guesses.

Having watched the trailer, I have to say that, I'm impressed. Still having the original EVA series on CD, I can cofirm that there's no reused animation. The fact that the animation goes so SMOOTHLY this time around (and notices those lines?) is clear enough. Add in about 10 ot so years of improvements in animation, and we're in for a treat.

I've always disliked Fly Me to the Moon but Utada Hikaru's version is actually not bad (and I'm not saying that just because I'm a huge fan) and Beautiful World sounds gorgeous, can't wait to hear the full version. 2007 has been an awesome year for movies so far, and a new NGE movie is pure frosting :)

Problem is, Eva is a terrible storyline. Hyper depressing characters, and a bitter tale just was too much of an emo trip to be worthwhile. It's a soap opera with no plot. It only has mechs to draw you in, then it slaps you with garbage.

I just recently saw EVA really, I avoided it like the plague because a good friend told me not to watch it. I couldn't really know why, I told him I LOVED mecha, but he told me to stay away.

Over the years, I saw that it was incredibly popular. A friend here in Iraq offered me to loan the entire series and the movies. So I watched it. Now I see why I avoided it. It's terrible. The first few episodes were fantastic, they were truly beginning to make a good show. After episode 18, it went sorely downhill.

It became a soapbox for the director to shed his tears to the world. Now I see why Japan was outraged. What is sad is that the rest of the world hasn't caught on. This anime was a fluke, the director is a flake, and it's a pity it's as over-rated as it is.

Anno said that there was going to be major technical advancements in terms of animation in these new films - i thought that he meant a new, realistic character design and improved, fluid, 3-D mecha actions - but guess not (the characters still look too old for their age, esp Rei - 14-year-olds don't have that kind of bodies, trust me)

If people are wondering where Asuka is she will be in the next movie since this one goes up to the defeat of Ramiel. I like how Kaworu will be introduced early and hope they have the silver eva(unit 3 or 4) in the next movie.

I liked the original series just as it was, including the ending. I have the entire series and both movies on DVD. It has its flaws, and probably could have been a lot better, but I still enjoyed it. Most people don't like it because they think it is too confusing, but I had absolutely no problem understanding it. The problems I had with the series are that there was not enough action, and at times it seemed like the fights were rushed. I would like to see more characters/EVAs, and maybe even a few new Angels. I hope the new remake fixes some of these flaws, and doesn't bastardize the series like End of Evangelion did.

I actually hated the End of Evangelion remake of episodes 25 and 26. I've only watched it 1 time, and will never watch it again. They turned the sexually curious and insecure 14 year old Shinji, into a whiny coward and a flat out pervert. The ending was horrible, they killed all of the characters I'd come to love. The only part I actually enjoyed was the attack on NERV HQ and Azukas fight with the MP EVAs units 5-13. However, it was all down hill from that point on. Just when you think Shinji is going to come to the rescue and annihilate those MPE bastards, they own him in 2 seconds. Then the world ends, and we are left sitting on the couch saying WTF!?!

I think Rebuild of Evangelion will actually be a great addition to this series. From what I have read, we will see new 3D animations as well as some revamped original animations. New characters/EVAs, new battles, and hopefully new Angels. Some minor characters will have bigger roles, and an earlier introduction of Kaworu will make the final battle more climactic. I think the most exciting thing will be the entirely new direction the series will go in. It sounds like the last 2 movies will be completely new. It also sounds like they have made it easier to understand as well. I absolutely can't wait to see the finished result. Speaking of, does anybody have any clue as to when this will be released in the USA?
