This episode contains some of the nicest animation I've ever seen. I especially love the two little snakes that Tamaki carries around in his bucket. It is therefore unfortunate that they actually have to trim the story down. I think it would have been better if this was presented as a two-parter. This makes me wonder if the series has only been scheduled as a 13 episodes series. The schedule on Shoboi's site certainly still indicates this. If that's the case then it's understandable as to why the animators want to include as many stories as possible. I do hope, however, that the series will be given 26 episodes at least so we can see some of the more interesting plotlines in the series.

The episode opens with a shot of Beach but it goes any further, the episode returns to the time when the twins have an idea to go to the beach because Haruhi said that she wanted to go the last time around. They have even prepared a two piece swimsuit, one where the top parts contain frills. Hunny thinks that Haruhi will look better in one piece but the twins remind him that if Haruhi wears a one piece, people can easily see the flatness of her chest. With the frills, however, this fact is hidden. Tamaki immediately hit the two like with baseball bat for insulting his 'daughter'. Kidding aside, everyone really wants to go to the beach so they end up going to Kyoya's private beach in Okinawa. The place looks magnificent but much to the twins' disappointment, Kyoya decides to let a few customers to tag along. This means that the twin has to dish out their usual twincest play to excite the girls. In addition to this, they can't see Haruhi in a swimsuit.
Tamaki doesn't mind about this because he doesn't want anyone to see Haruhi in a swimsuit. Moreover, he has ideas of what he wants to do with Haruhi: walking together on a beach while Haruhi wears a sundress. Meanwhile, Haruhi is shocked when all of a sudden she finds the beach surrounded by a bunch of crabs and other sea creatures. As it turns out, Kyoya has ordered his private troops to bring them. Hunny and Haruhi are happy to see this so Tamaki decides to show a huge crab to Haruhi and asks if she likes it. Haruhi does like it but unfortunately for Tamaki, the crab has a millipede on them, freaking the girls around him. Much to his surprise, Haruhi is not afraid of it and actually picks it up and throws the creature away. The girls become excited to see this thinking that Haruhi is so manly. Tamaki and the twins realise that Haruhi is not afraid of bugs so they decide to play a game where the task is to find Haruhi's phobia.
Everyone becomes excited about this especially after Kyoya offers to award the winner photos of Haruhi while she was in middle school. The twins attempt to scare Haruhi by taking her inside a cave before telling her creepy story and startling her with fake monster. They fail miserably since Haruhi knew they were going to pull that trick. Hunny decide to lock himself and Haruhi inside Kyoya's truck to see if she is afraid of the dark. In the end, however, it is Hunny who ends up being scared of the darkness. Mori decides to point a Mori (Harpoon) at Haruhi but it seems Haruhi is not afraid of pointy objects. Haruhi then end up collecting shells near a cliff while her fangirls watch on from above. All of a sudden, however, a bunch of guys arrive and start sexually hassling the girls. Haruhi decides to come to the girls' rescue by dumping her various clams and shells on the guys. As a result she get into fight with them and got thrown into the ocean.
Thankfully the girls manage to escape and decide to let Tamaki and the others know about the situation. Tamaki immediately dives into the ocean and rescues Haruhi. He, however, can't contain his anger at the fact that Haruhi, who is a girl, decided to pick a fight with those guys even though she can't defend herself. Haruhi thinks that being a man or woman does not matter and she didn't have the time to think. Tamaki asks her to think a bit more since she's a girl. Haruhi becomes angry to hear this and tells Tamaki that she's sorry for being a bother but she doesn't think she's done anything wrong. That night, Tamaki sulks and refuses to talk to Haruhi until she admits her mistake. Much to his surprise, Haruhi arrives at the dinner table wearing a dress that her father has prepared for her. Despite this dinner ends up being a unpleasant experience because Haruhi spends the majority of the time eating her share of the crabs.
Tamaki decides to open a conversation by telling Haruhi that he thinks she's overrating. Haruhi, however, curtly tells him that she thought he's on a 'not speaking' term with her. Tamaki is annoyed to hear this and decides to go to bed. After Tamaki and Kyoya left the dinner table, Haruhi wonders if things would have been better if she knew Karate. Upon hearing this, Hunny tells her that Tamaki reacted that way because he worries about her and so does everyone else. Haruhi is surprised to hear this and apologises for worrying them. All of a sudden, however, Haruhi feels sick because she overeats, because of this she heads towards the nearest bathroom and later on realises that she is actually inside Kyoya's room. Haruhi uses the opportunity to apologise to Kyoya for worrying him as well but Kyoya tells her that he wasn't as worried as the twins. He then reveals that he actually had to stop those two from beating her attackers senseless.
In addition to this, he had to send flower bouquets to the girls who got scared. Each of the bouquet costs him 50,000 Yen so in total, he spent around 600,000 Yen. Haruhi offers to pay for the flowers but Kyoya suddenly turns the light off and tells her that she can pay it with her body. He then pushes Haruhi into the bed and tells her that even though she said being a man or a woman does not matter, the fact is, she is defenceless. Haruhi realises what Kyoya is trying to say but she also tells him that he won't do this because there's nothing that he can gain from putting his hand on her. Kyoya agrees with this and lets Haruhi go. Haruhi thinks that Kyoya is actually kind since he was willing to act like a villain to teach her a lesson. As soon as Haruhi finished saying this, however, Tamaki enters the room looking for a lotion. Imagine his shock when he sees Kyoya with Haruhi on the bed. Before Tamaki can say anything, however, Kyoya already shoves him the lotion and leaves the room.
Because of this Tamaki turns his anger towards Haruhi and asks Haruhi what she and Kyoya did together. Haruhi claimed that nothing happened but Tamaki doesn't believe it and decides to leave the room. Before Tamaki can leave, however, a loud thunder noise can be heard. Haruhi immediately latches on to Tamaki's shirt but quickly changes her mind and decides to hide in a closet instead. This causes Tamaki to realise that Haruhi is afraid of thunder. He also finds out that Haruhi has always been alone at home and not relying on anyone. This is the reason why she didn't bother to ask for help. Tamaki then opens the closet and Haruhi immediately jumps into his arms. Tamaki admits his defeat and tells her that instead of her asking for his help, he'll try not to leave her alone. A few minutes later, the other guys decide to check on the two but they were shocked when they see Haruhi has blindfolds in her eyes and ear plugs in her ear. Since Tamaki tries to guard Haruhi's secret phobia, everyone simply thinks that he's a S&M pervert.
Impression:
This is probably one of those rare episodes containing that sensitive question regarding gender-specific strength. Tamaki argued that unless a girl can defend herself with some form of martial arts or other self-defence ability, she is essentially can't fight a guy. Haruhi, on the other hand, believes that being a girl doesn't make her less capable in a fight against another guy. Bear in mind that in this particular story, Haruhi was against two guys so regardless of gender, she was overpowered to begin with. However, what if that was a one on one fight between Haruhi and another boy, such as the case when Kyoya pushed her into his bed. Was Kyoya's argument that a guy can easily overpower a girl is correct? Or is this a flawed belief that tend to give more credits to men than women? If all things being equal, as in where both genders have the same body mass and no fighting ability, can a man still overpower a woman?
Haruhi's lack of awareness of the correlation between gender and power is particularly interesting here. She never even once considered that she has no chance against the guys due to her gender. In a way this is a good thing because when all things being equal, the only thing that can defeat a person is a victim mentality. A person who believes that he/she has equal chance against another person usually tend to put up a more valiant effort. However, the danger comes when Haruhi can't measure her own ability against her opponent. On a lighter note, it was fun to see Tamaki referred as S&M King by the twins. I am, however, rather disappointed at the missing Nekozawa scenes. The anime ends up lacking some of the funniest scenes from the manga because of this very point. There's also a consistency here because Haruhi is actually not afraid of bugs while she was afraid of them in last week's episode.
i have a question...even tho it has nuttin to do w/ the series...i love it n all
but i wanna know what program u use to take the screen shots
cuz ive tried the 'print screen' button on ur keyboard n paste it in paint, opencanvas, photoshop, etc. all those things but it just doesnt work
~tnx
Well, I see that lately this Nekozawa scenes are getting a lot of attention, but since I can´t read the manga (they don´t distribute it on my country), I´m afraid I have to ask, what exactly was supposed to happen?
Looking at future episode titles, this Nekozawa scene is likely to be combined into episode 11. I'm really looking forward to it.
Hopefully Honey's scene from the end of the first manga will be incorporated into episode 12.
***Spoiler starts***
if they delete the scenes with Nekozawa, then perhaps, the series will really be only 13 eps. This would mean that we won't get to see Nekozawa's lil sister. because, most of the fans don't know that Nekozawa is a blondie bishounen :(
***Spoiler ends****
Where do you download the raws from?
Episode 11 will be about Nekozawa's little sister actually :) Take a look at the episode title from the link in the review.
"If all things being equal, as in where both genders have the same body mass and no fighting ability, can a man still overpower a woman?"
It depends from person to person, I think. Some girls are just not meant to fight but I personally has beaten up a boy when I was a little kid. But then again I'm probably what most people considered tomboy like Haruhi.
"If all things being equal, as in where both genders have the same body mass and no fighting ability, can a man still overpower a woman?"
actually i think really really hard for woman , esp close combat even if she has a gun XD (since u need to have will to kill someone otherwise no use)
man are usually conditioned to be physically aggressive since young (think all the gundam series u have to go through :P) + testorone ( that hormone thing ) when adult xD
i work in a factory where there's a lot of machine part . there's this one small thin guy at work , shorter than me too , he routinely carries heavy machine parts which i have to use a jack on :D
biologically speaking man/woman won;t have the same body mass , if both same weight , man will have more muscles than woman by default.
THEY LEFT OUT NEKOZAWA?!!!! NO WAY!!!! HE WAS THE BEST PART!!!
I've been looking forward to this episode because of Nekozawa and now....*weeps*
This is the first "major" departure from the manga at least...I hope they stay faithful...
As for inconsistency, the "bugs" in the last episode looked more like giant, flesh-eating larva than simply bugs. I'm not afraid of bugs myself but I'd be afraid of those.
And yeah, I'm as feminist as they get (without getting radical), but in general men are stronger than women, biologically. More body mass, testosterone, less parts that stick out, etc. And then there's the conditioning randomlurker123 was talking about. There's a reason why so many sports are gender-differentiated.
i wanna know what program u use to take the screen shots
I use Macintosh computer and the computer allow me to press option+shirt+4 and then I can use the mouse to highlight the area that I want to screencap. If you use PC, then there are some shareware you can find to take screencaps. Unfortunately the names escape me at the moment so I can only recommend that you do a search on google for "movie screencap software" or something to that extent.
Well, I see that lately this Nekozawa scenes are getting a lot of attention, but since I can´t read the manga (they don´t distribute it on my country), I´m afraid I have to ask, what exactly was supposed to happen?
*spoiler starts*
In the manga, the beach that they go to actually belongs to Nekozawa and it's littered with tombstones and skeletons. Nekozawa also reveals that he's actually a blonde bishounen underneath his disguise.
*spoiler ends*
Where do you download the raws from?
I got it from Japanese P2P program called Winny.
Yeah, I'm with kuromitsu in regards to the bugs. I don't mind bugs like millipedes, but I hate things like leeches.
Nekozawa is a blonde bishounen? ... man, now an image of Tamaki wearing that cloak with a Beelzenef doll is stuck in my head. Anyone got any images of what he really looks like?
"If all things being equal, as in where both genders have the same body mass and no fighting ability, can a man still overpower a woman?"
Well that's the point. Actually, because of evolution, women generally don't build up as many muscles as men do, unless they do extensive muscle training (and we all know what happens to women who have too many muscles....)
So even if it were 1:1 Haruhi against a guy, I don't think she'd have that many chances, unless she knew Judo or so. She'd put up a fight all right, but the outcome would have been clear.
I do miss the fact that
*spoiler starts* ******************
Nekozawa is the one who owns the beach and creeps out the guests, because on his beach he has this weird monster-face cave.
And I do hope that the animators will introduce Haruhi's father somewhere before the series ends.
Goddamn, why make something this good so short T_T
************************** *spoiler ends*
"If all things being equal, as in where both genders have the same body mass and no fighting ability, can a man still overpower a woman?"
If all things were equal then it would all boil down on who can captialize on the opportunities that arise. SInce physiologically men and women are not equal a woman can still hold her own by attacking points which are universally vulnerable. A crushed windpipe will lay you down no matter who you are. Besides fair fights are pointless the key to defending oneself is to use what ever is handy and beat your assailant with it.
Mass with sufficient velocity can defeat any defense.
I am hoping for more than a mere 13 eps since one would have already been wasted to that stupid yancha prick. At least they will have one Nekozawa centric ep and Alice in wonderland huzzah!
Still the raw is still not up yet and the wait is agonizing.
"If all things being equal, as in where both genders have the same body mass and no fighting ability, can a man still overpower a woman?"
Depends, I suppose. The image most men seem to have of women being delicate is entirely fallacious. You have no idea the damage that can be done by a stilletto, or a vicious kick to the right place with pointy pumps. Needless to say that if I, or any girl, was in the situation haruhi was with Kyouya, you'd fight like crazy to get out of it, and hairpulling, eye-gouging, biting and clawing are non-gender-specific. Now, I'm pretty burly for a girl, so maybe it's just me, but I'd say that in that kind of circumstance any woman would be more heavily motivated to win than the guy. It just depends what you have at hand to use to your advantage, and I know that I'd shoot a guy who was trying to assault me. His personal wellbeing would not be at the top of my list of priorities. But in a regular physical 1-on-1 fight, the girl would be at a disadvantage if she didn't know what she was doing, or didn't have the materials to improvise.
On less a upsetting note, I really want to see this episode. Winny, you say?
>Crusader
Apparently there'll be 9 DVD volumes, which means at least 24 episodes. Thank god. (This ALMOST makes me forgive Bones for giving Juuousei a measly 11 episodes run...)
Most good Mangas are like this. Having Half-Way, they have Animes, but the Animes will not have a Proper Ending. Or even have, shouldn't Probably be the Ending in the Manga.
There are Many Examples, Like
Kare Kano
1999-2000(Anime)
1997-2005(Ends) (Manga)
Ichigo 100%
2003-2004 (Anime)
2005 (Ends) (Manga)
D.N Angel
2001~2 finishes(Anime)
*Manga haven't finish*
And Many, Many More!!!
--- !!!!!Believing that somehow in Next Year or future, there will be Anime for D. Gray Man!!!!!---
Unrelated to this anime, could anyone tell me what this (わざとだよ, wazato da yo) means? I couldn't think of anyone to help me translate this...and programs don't work on this. -_-" So I thought this might be a good place to get some help.
Tamaki is beautiful! I am loving this anime, its so funny! :D Thanks for the summary!
It's true that most anime lacks on the ending part. -_-' I can't imagine how Ouran would be yet. But look on the bright side, at least Ouran would be known for it's high shoujo quality animation blossoming in pink. XD
Aside from the anime, >.> I kind of like Katsura-san's drawing. And the plot...*thumbs up* Light Gothic style... X3
O_o Somehow the name sounds weird but there seems to be a reason behind it according to the mangaka. Something related deeply in this story...Or so and so...
In one of the screenshots(last row), Mori also looks sort of irritated when he enters with the other guys, and sees tamaki with haruhi blind-folded. His eyebrows are crossed.. Or maybe not?
To Weils: I think わざど means purposely. So to put it in your question form ...it sorta means "you do it on purpose?"
man...i love this anime...it's funny!!!~
and i especially love the scene where Haruhi jumps into Tamaki's arms......sweet sweet.
>Baal
I think mori's eyebrows are crossed.
:D
I guess thats a good thing seeing how he never expresses his emotions.
This what makes Host Club very interesting. Gender issues be damned! ^_^ I'll be waiting for "Haruhi's dad episode".
Kyouya is such fun.
is there any way you could post the video for ep. 8 in youtube? i'm dying to know
I love how they turned the sea shell hunt to a full blown gathering for dinner and Haruhi's girl voice and seige breaking suki. Unfrotunately since Nekozawa was cut and Kyoya's private police were called up it creates a problem as to how those goons infiltrated the beach.
Mori seemed interested in dolling up Haruhi as well and his eyes were in scowling mode when Tamaki was trying his S&M tactics. I could see some indication of Kyoya hesitating when he backed off, perhaps Ouran may yet get an extension.
It appears as though the Zuka Club will make an appearnce and hopefully a reccurring one since they are central to one of the better jokes when Haruhi cosplays Alice. I am not sure what to think of the preview though it seems to be heavily rewritten as no cross dressing on the Zuka club's part. I hope Nekozawa get compensated for his MIA in this episode.
Ahhh... One of my fave coupling... Kyoya and Haruhi ^_^v They kinda look awesome together! But my fave is still Tamaki and her together! Cool! I love the manga... Sad that they left Nekozawa out.. He's was really funny! And he's handsome (without the cloak and his black wig) too! XD
I'm waiting for bittorent to post the episode. So guess I'll just have to wait.. =D
I was looking so forward to this episode... I liked it, but I think the original story was better because it was funnier. That and the Kyouya scene was steamier and funnier.
I really like Nekozawa, he's really funny, It's cool how he's handsome, but stays true to himself. I really hope that it'll be more than 13 episodes. I love the manga and want to see more turned to anime also.
*possible spoiler starts*
isn't haruhi's dad ment to be a cross dresser or did i get it wrong?
iv not seen any of the manga's....... so who's this nekozawa?
*spoiler ends*
when i frist saw this i thught id hate it, but i love it, i hope its longer that 13eps
TAMIKIXHARUHI YAY
I read somewhere that there's 26 episodes... I hope so anyway.
inner otaku: kyouya looked HOT without his glasses!!
*cough* i liked this episode. ^_^ i guess this episode is my favorite so far with it's drama, comedy, and romance equal in one ep. keep summing! i read 'em every week! =P
Finally, i got the time to watch this episode. Okay, so maybe i've also been raised up like Haruhi. Like her, i don't depend on others to help me through tough times. So, watching this episode i guess sorta pissed the hell out of me!!!
Haruhi did what she knew was the right thing to do when those girls were getting harassed by those punks. Who the !@#$ cares if she's a girl or not, she did the right thing.
Everyone made such a huge deal! and what the hell is up with all those wimpy ass girls, huh?! Are they trying to say that all rich, pretty girls are useless, good for nothings?
what the freaken hell. this is pissing me off!
Anyways, i can't write anymore. I'm just too upset at this time.
laters.
dARN it all. Nekozawa!!! Where is he?! I even liked his part in this chapter when they'll see how he actually looks and then dresses him up!!!!
By the way I like KyouyaxHaruhi too cute if that happens. hahahah And totally unexpected
I bet if Kyouya and Haruhi got married, it would probably end up in divorce. Haruhi would probably file in saying that he was a cheapskate or something. If they had a child, I bet there would be some funnies regarding child support.. haha
But anyway, that was a joke. I like Kyouya and Haruhi together. I don't know why. I like Mori and Haruhi and HikaruxHaruhi too.
I think that the question of whether a girl can fight a guy refers to physical strength. Haruhi is very small and is not physically strong being a girl as compared to all of these big, strong guys (and Honey the judo master- yay judo!) I think it was understandable that Tamaki accused her of overlooking this (it's true), but also, the situation would not have been different at all if Haruhi, with the same height and strength, was a guy. So in a sense, they were both right.
Kyouya is really scary, I would not get stuck alone with him! And (as this has already been reiterated) they better put in all that about Nekozawa. He's just too funny.
Oops, double posting!
To xIchigo : if you have a PC, using the "printscreen" key won't work to take a screen shot; they can only be taken using a program. Try checking through any media software you have. Nero ShowTime has a screen shot button (I got the program when I installed my DVD drive). Try playing around before getting new software.
OH, forget Haruhi x Mori or x Tamaki
NEKOZAWA x Haruhi!!!
Voodoo doll children (imagines)*
this show is set for 26 episodes, right? It says so in Wikipedia.
"This episode contains some of the nicest animation I've ever seen ( from this anime? )" Wich part? it could be interresting to enlighten us. I dont know about the nekozawa part ,20min is too short too fit another scene or character in this ep, considering that u cannot shorten the second half of the ep and the fact that the dramatic part take the 3 last mins of the first half , u only have 8min30 left , its barely enough to decide to go to the beach , introduce the beach , play around , looking for harui's weak point.
Anyway you often have to make compromise in animation , and i think they didn't had any other choice.
Haruhi did what she knew was the right thing to do when those girls were getting harassed by those punks. Who the !@#$ cares if she's a girl or not, she did the right thing.
"Everyone made such a huge deal! and what the hell is up with all those wimpy ass girls, huh?! Are they trying to say that all rich, pretty girls are useless, good for nothings? "
They made it a big deal because they all care a lot about her , she should have scream or run for help ( one of the wimpy ass girls did it ! ) .... but she didnt cause she wasnt thinking of the consequences.
The problem is that she didnt admit that she should have acted more wisely ( she almost died ) and didnt notice that everyone was worried.
PS: It kind of remind me of the first ep of Airmaster , when ganguro girl claim that she learnd karate and got knocked on the ground after one hit.
What does S&M stand for?
S&M = Sadism and Masochism or Slave and Master :D
lol, it's a good moral for a story, Folckhart. If you're wimpy and a girl, just scream for help and hope a man will come rescue you. -_-''
I mean, the first thing to do is to scream for help , then u can choose beetween running for help or trying to fight if u want to be a hero.
But the thing is , if u are alone , the best option is to try to escape , ur safety is prior to everything especialy if u didnt learn any martial art, are weaker and over numbered....
But even if u learned martial art , its better to run first , most of the time , the enemies dont have the same stamina , and dont run at the same speed, so u can be in a 1 on 1 situation and then try to take one of the enemy as fast as possible. The thing is , running and screaming for help is not that wimpy , if u are in a city , it may scare ur oponent , and wake up some neighourg ...
This synopsis overlooks the hilarious sexual subtext to some of Haruhi and Tamaki's scenes. When Tamaki holds the giant crab up to Haruhi, its shell strongly resembles male genitals, and her response leaves ambiguous to which meaning of Tamaki's question she's responding. Later at dinner, Tamaki recoils in horror when Haruhi snaps the crab legs to consume their meat. I thought that was the funniest bit in the entire episode. ^_^
That's a good point you make, Flockhart.
lol the inconsistency of Haruhi being afraid of bugs in ep 7 and not in ep 8 is probably cuz in ep 7 it was like a friggin swarm of 40 of them. and ep 8 only has 1
Males are born with 22% more muscle cell mass...whether they actually develop them, their motivation, skills, size, and psychology are another matter all together. It's a toss-up.
Everyone is focusing on the literal interpretation of Tamaki's words, though. When has he ever freaked out about Haruhi's gender inferiority before?? Even when I was watching the episode, I thought "This is such a facade."
I think there never really was a male vs. female issue: it was just a cover to hide Tamaki's fear. I mean, Haruhi DID fall off a freaking cliff; she definately could have died, which REALLY freaked Tamaki out. When he's all "Augh! Never try to fight guys like that!" what he really means is "Augh! Never get into a situation where you might get seriously hurt; don't make me get so worried!"
BTW, Nekozawa is like my new favorite of all time; must see his manga appearances. What volume does his beach appear in?
love it da,
