This is not exactly the funniest episode within the series. However, it is a mark improvement from last week's episode which was rather dull in my opinion. It helps that this episode features my favourite pairing which is Mori x Haruhi. I actually don't mind any other pairings with Haruhi but if a person asks me which of the pairings that I like the most then the answer will have to be Mori x Haruhi. I just find these two a lot more interesting together. Anyway, the animation in this episode is fantastic and maintains the quality of the past few episodes. I think the quality will be maintained until the end of the series. Of course, there's the likelihood that the budget becomes crippled halfway or towards the end of the series but I seriously hope that won't be the case.
The episode begins with Haruhi finding herself inside some kind of a tropical paradise and wondering if she's in some kind of a dream. Tamaki's appearance makes her realise that this is not dream and immediately demands to know where is the exit door. Haruhi is not happy about this because she wants to study. Through a flashback, it's revealed that around 15:38PM, Haruhi got abducted by the rest of the Ouran Host and was taken into this place kicking and screaming. Kyoya tells Haruhi that this is the Ootori's group theme park and claims that the place is suitable to relieve stress. The place, however, is not opened until next month so the Host Club gets to use it first. Tamaki is happy to be in the place mostly because there are no customers around. Haruhi is then asked by Hunny if she wants anything so Haruhi tells the boy that she'd like a coconut juice. While Hunny goes to fetch the juice, however, Haruhi's attention is transfixed on Mori.
She, however, got distracted when the twins appear and asks her why she's wearing a light parka. Another flashback reveals that around 16:02PM, the twins took Haruhi to a change room so she can change into a swimwear. After struggling, Haruhi eventually agrees to wear a pink one-piece but Tamaki ended up giving her the parka because he thinks girl should only show their skin after she got married. Haruhi tells the twin that she has no interest in being here. Moreover, she prefers one of those inflatable vinyl pools. The twins think that Haruhi is describing air boat. Tamaki, however, tells the twins that if Haruhi thinks that's a pool then it's a pool. The twins are not happy about this and ask Tamaki why he gave Haruhi the parka since he's normally interested in seeing Haruhi in a swimsuit. Tamaki claims that he did it as Haruhi's father but unfortunately for him, Haruhi overhears him so he becomes the recipient of her icy stare.
Hunny then asks Haruhi if she wants to go swimming but Haruhi also refuses the boy. She, however, thinks that Hunny and his swimming tube fit his bunny image. Renge, however, suddenly appears out of nowhere, complete with swimsuit and a tattoo similar to the one that Kisaragi Quon of Rahxephon possess. Renge has come to inform them that Hunny's cuteness is just an act before disappearing again. After Renge left, the twins want to play water gun game with Tamaki but he refuses, claiming that he doesn't play childish game. Tamaki, however, changes his mind when he sees the twins trying to propose Haruhi. Meanwhile, Haruhi herself is trying to ignore the situation around her by drinking coconut juice. When Mori comes out of the pool, however, Haruhi's attention is once again transfixed on the guy. She decides to offer him her drink, which he accepts right away. At the same time, the water gun battle between Tamaki and the twins heat up.
Tamaki, however, accidentally steps on a banana skin and bumps his head straight into a totem pole, which somehow controls the pool's current. This effectively triggers a giant wave in the flowing pool where Hunny is swimming. Mori makes an attempt to save Hunny but ends up tripping on banana skin and to make things worse, there are alligators and other wild creatures around the area. While searching around the jungle, Haruhi realises that it's difficult to figure out what Mori thinks since his face tends to be expressionless most of the time. When Mori trips on another banana skin, however, Haruhi realises that Mori is really worried about Hunny. Unfortunately, the search has to be postponed because the rain is coming. While taking shelter inside a hut, the twins explain that Hunny and Mori are cousins. The Morinozuka family has actually served the Haninozuka family for generations. Marriage, however, has blended the two families together.
Technically, there is no reason for Mori to continue the servitude tradition. Despite this, he continues to remain close with Hunny. Tamaki believes that this loyalty simply comes naturally due to their blood. Upon finding out about this, Haruhi tries to assure Mori that Hunny is okay. This earns her a pat on the head from Mori and causes Tamaki to become jealous. After the rain is over, Mori goes out immediately to continue the search. Haruhi decides to accompany him but is crept out by the various wild lives around the park. Because of this Mori calls her out and then carries her up in his arm. Haruhi realises that this is the first time Mori calls her by her name and feels happy about it. At the same time, Kyoya decides to use his private troops to continue the search. When he's finished giving orders, however, he realises that Haruhi and Mori have gone missing as well and he didn't inform the police about those two.
As a result, the troops think that Haruhi is actually the boy that they were ordered to find. They end up holding Mori and Haruhi under gunpoint and order Mori to surrender Haruhi. Mori and Haruhi who don't know them think that they're up to no good so when one of the troopers tries to take Haruhi, he ends up getting punched by Mori. The situation turns bad when the troops try to shoot Mori using their gun. Thankfully before anything can happen, Hunny arrives and disarms all of the troops using his Karate chops. The rest of the guys finally catch up and explains that Hunny's family is known as famous martial artist family. Hunny is actually a karate and judo champion so he's perfectly capable of taking care of himself. Later on, Hunny thanks Mori for protecting Haruhi. He also hopes that Mori wasn't sad when he wasn't around. The episode then ends with the twins suggesting that they go to the beach next time. Tamaki thinks Haruhi is not interested to go there but much to his surprise, Haruhi think going to the beach is a good idea.
Impression:
I have to say that I'm very happy with this episode mostly because I like the idea of Mori x Haruhi pairing. I think Haruhi is intrigued by Mori because he's quite different from all of the other males that surrounds her. There is a certain degree of mysteriousness about Mori that does not exists in the rest of the males in her life. Admittedly the anime hasn't shown much evidence that support the idea that either Haruhi or Mori are attracted to each other. Having said that, it's rare to see Haruhi's eyes showing any interest in a guy like she did with Mori when he got out of the pool. She was even happy when Mori called her by her name. And back in episode 1, Mori's eyes suddenly turns deadly and alert the minute Haruhi asks him to help her escaping Tamaki's glomp. It's unfortunate that Mori is relegated to that thankless supporting character role One who doesn't get to say many lines. I'd like to know what others think about this pairing. Is this actually a popular pairing in the fandom?
Moving on to other topic, I am very amused at BONES' attempt at self-reference: Renge's blue tatoo. Those who have seen Rahxephon would know that the same tatoo can be found on Quon, one of the characters from that series. This is probably the second time in a week that an animation company tried to pimp out their other series using their latest project. The other company in question is of course, Kyoto Animation, who added Full Metal Panic!! references in this week's episode of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. Anyway, this episode also suggests that competition for Haruhi is now out and open, especially with Tamaki and the Twins trying to one up each other. I suspect they'll get a heart attack if they actually saw Haruhi being carried by Mori like a couple in a honeymoon phase. Last but not least, Kyoya in his money-making mode never fails to amuse and induce laughter from me.

Nice summary.
Personally, I like the MorixHaruhi pairing. They really do look sweet together. Plus, that little sketch at the end of the fifth volume of the manga had me sold. ^_^
But then again, I usually like the least obvious pairings in these type of series. TamakixHaruhi is too obvious, therefore it'd be kinda boring and predictable if they ended up together.
But MorixHaruhi is nice. The guy definitely needs more screen time with our female protagonist. Heck, he needs more screen time period.
I haven't decided on which pairing that I like but the screenshot with Haruhi blushing is rather surprising to see. That's the first time she's blushing at a man, I think. Usually that only happens when she eats something good -_-;;
I'm almost positive that Bisco Hatori wrote that she wanted Mori and Haruhi to end up together in one of her little end of the book blurbs. I'm all for it, as Mori seems to be the most down-to-Earth and sincere one out of all of them.
I can't wait to watch this episode. The Rahxephon reference on its own will be worth it. It's a neat reference because Sakamoto Maaya plays Reika in that version.
As for coupling, it'll be interesting to see if Haruhi actually ends up with anyone. I personally prefer that she ends up with no one on screen so viewers can choose which guy she ends up with. That will be better than upsetting some fanbase.

I really hope that this series will go one longer than 13 eps, and that the source of funding reamians bountiful and ever lasting. I wonder if they assemsbled a huge war chest before doing this or we have one diedcated group who really love this story.
I can't believe that they were able to work in Haruhi's bathing suit. It really does suit her, and as for Renge-san and her tatoo, bravo. In this case I found the anime to be more enjoyable than the manga chapter because we have meido twins. I sense that the guys watching this show are being blatanlty pandered to...
I don't like how they made Haruhi afraid of bugs, snakes and icky stuff, since her fearlessness plays a bigger part in other chapters.
I am all for the MorixHaruhi pairing since I like under dogs and he is the most mellow fellow. Besides Tamaki is sort of like Haruhi's real dad. The awesomeness of Mori is that like Wedge and Boba Fett they have few lines but they always stand out. Failing that I would not mind seeing a RengexHaruhi pairing if only for laughs.
It appears as though they wil be merging the next two manga chatpers and I guess they might tone down Haruhi's fearless nature in Nekozawa's house and his cave network. I hope they don't cut out my favorite occult club president though...not a single cameo in the whole preview.
BONES I implode you, don't cut Nekozawa out! I besiege you in your big budget tower to not fall to the trappings of one financially incompetent Gainax. If you do as I ask I will got to Japan to give you all the raw cookie dough you want.

Nooo. I can't believe they did that! The awesome thing about Haruhi is the fact that she's not afraid of bugs and critters. How are they going to show the beach episode if she's this afraid of bugs in this episode?

Personally, I'd enjoy any of the guys with Haruhi, but I really, really love Mori so I think this Mori x Haruhi pairing is the best!!

Haruhi and Mori together? hmmm...interesting. I personally like the Haruhi and Tamaki combo. Tamaki may act all crazy and stuff but i can still remember the first episode when he help Haruhi find her wallet. I don't know what it was about that part of the episode but i felt that in the end of the series they could end up together. Tamaki has this other side to him which we have yet to see. Maybe Mori and Haruhi will become very good friends and as a result, this friendship will cause a lot of jealously among the other members especially Tamaki.
LOL! but i may be wrong about all this. HA HA HAAAAA.
I hope the series end without showing which guy Haruhi ends up with. That way fans can imagine which guy is paired up with Haruhi. I hate to think that this series will become another Hot Gimmick where the main character ends up with a character that I probably don't like.

I do like Mori x Haruhi, but I can't really see her with any of the guys yet. But the only two people Mori ever really does anything for or talks to are (from what I remember) either Hunny or Haruhi.
Aww. It's so cute. But with the increasing number of people vying for Haruhi's affection, this will result in some internal turmoil. And knowing Tamaki, he's probably blow it into a full scale war...
re: ranko. actually in the character intros at the end of volume 1, she mentions that mori & haruhi is her favorite coupling or some such (paraphrasing).

Personally, i really don't mind who she ends up with except maybe hunny. If she ended up with hunni, their relationship would seem so pedophilic.

Well the manga gets to the point where all of them are competing for haruhi, yes yes even kyoya!
But I really like the haruhi and mori pairing because I think they somewhat perfectly fit each other and that they somewhat have the same personality. I think mori should get the girl but sadly it's obvious that tamaki will.
I'm yet another Haruhi/Tamaki fan (Tamaki is just too amusing of a character...he's the type that's traditionally been the romantic foil in these kinds of stories and never gets the girl) but I'm with Van Fannel: I hope that the end pairing is kept open so not to disappoint the fans of all pairings.
Aw yeah i'm kind of sad about Mori. No offence to the Honey fans, but Honey is Mori's anchor. :(..

I wasn't planning to watch Ouran at first because I thought it was some kind of a typical school love story but I'm really glad that I had decided to download this funny anime on a whim. The anime had the power to make me go buy all the available manga volumes..Finished reading all in a day but its still not enough.. I want more of Ouran.. >.<

Haha, I really liked this episode a lot - guess it's because I'm a real big Mori senpai fan *ahehe* Hmm, I've been hanging around some fansites and it seems Haruhi x Tamaki is the most popular pairing, next to Haruhi x Hikaru ( x Kaoru). Mori x Haruhi would be hwot. As mentioned before by Renge, she told Tamaki he should be the alone type who doesn't give much love to girls so easily. This, in my opinion, describes Mori alot. Other then being loyal to his friend Hunny, he pretty much keeps to himself which is a mistery.. and doesn't really show much of his affection towards other girls during hosting events. Did i mention he's a hunk (carry me!)? x3 Tamaki's character is too much of a let down, having being the center of all the puns..it's funny, but still a let down :/ if his character were to change a bit, i wouldn't mind T x H.
I say Haruhi should end up with the twins or Tamaki!Really!and i really want to see how the show ends!!!!!!
I am in love with the Haruhi+Mori pairing. I think it's so interesting and cute because he's so mysterious and reserved/shy, he gets pushed to the back(ground) all the time. Sad. ;_;

Mori x Haruhi is my favorite couple out of everyone. But sadly, I can see that Tamaki x Haruhi is going to be the outcome, provided she gets together with anyone at all. I would prefer it if she ends up by herself but if she does get involved with anyone, I PRAY that it will be Mori. They don't interact much but from what I've seen, whenever they do, it's very meaningful and sweet. Plus, Haruhi actually blushed JUST because Mori said her name; meaningful, ne? Go Mori x Haruhi!! =D

I do wonder why nobody commented on the indirect 'kiss' that Mori and Haruhi shared when she offered him her drink? Remember, this was something Tamaki tried hard to prevent during the Hikaru/Haruhi date incident in Ep 16...

He was busy playing water gun with the twins, IIRC.
Yes. After getting the manga, I've been rewatching it to compare the differences in plots between the two - like the changes made to Ep 1 with Haruhi's introduction, Ep 2 with the Kanako bit... and to see what stays the same.
Seriously, Mori's only really smiled at Hunny and Haruhi, which should satisfy those who feel a Mori x Haruhi relationship is in order; and she understands him in a way that usually only Hunny does. That, and they changed ep 12 so that Haruhi intentionally listened in while Mori refused the girl's affections... although the story felt a bit weaker since it lost the whole appeal of Mori to shy girls thing in the process (his stoic silence draws the shy ones out, and his less-than-gentle refusal of the girl's feelings was another component to his self-punishment).
I love MoriXHaruhi pairing! Personally they look so cute together! The last episode I thought that Tamaki and Haruhi were going to kiss but they didnt so i switched over to MoriXHaruhi. They look so adorable together and Mori is soooo cute!!
