As I suspected, this turns out to be a combination of the festival storyline as well as a few additional 'problems' invented by the anime writers. I supposed this is not a bad adaptation but it's not as fun as the real festival story. I kind of miss Kuze and his stupid orange. I was looking forward to see him biting it. Anyway, since this is a penultimade episode of Ouran, not surprisingly it comes with a cliffhanger. I don't think it'll have a long lasting effect though and I suspect everything will be resolved to the way it was by the end of next week. It was interesting to see Haruhi behave like she does in this episode though. Some Haruhi/Tamaki shippers will probably be happy to see this.
It's the 43rd Ouran Festival so everyone is busy preparing for the opening ceremony. After hearing Hikaru ordering workers to place table into the Salon, Haruhi tells Kyouya that in school festivals, students normally everything themselves. Kyouya, however, tells her that is for normal school but in Ouran, school festival is more about planning and leadership. That's because most of the students here are future leaders of their respective family business. Tamaki, Mori, and Hunny then arrive with a carriage, asking her to join them in the special parade. While inside the carriage, Kaoru makes a comment about Hikaru's ability to handle the carriage. Hikaru tells him that Kaoru should have practiced with him. Tamaki tells the not-impressed Haruhi that tomorrow's parade will involve medieval French outfit. There is even a costume specifically made for Haruhi. Once the clock tower chimes, several supporting characters can be seen all around the school.
Inside the Salon, the Host Club opens a special event for the general public. This time around, everyone is on their best behaviour so that they'll impress the students' parents. Tamaki manages to charm the pants off a disgruntled older lady by telling her that the purpose of the Host Club is to spend time with beautiful lady like herself. Meanwhile, some parents assume that Mori and Hunny are siblings when the former asks the later to button his shirt. The twins, on the other hand, try to attract sympathy by pretending that they're lonely because they've been neglected by their parents. Kyouya, on the other hand, is busy explaining to a parent that everyday they cosplay in each country/race's costume in order to learn the social culture of said country/race. Haruhi, however, thinks that the entire thing is an overpriced event, causing Tamaki to rush to her side, claiming that this is a campaign to appeal to a wide group of people.
Kyouya, however, agrees with Haruhi, explaining that they've gone over budget this time around. Apparently the carriage that Tamaki wants had to be imported from France. He points out that Tamaki' selfishness causes them a lot of problem. Tamaki protests this, asking Haruhi if wanting to make everyone happy is a selfishness. Haruhi ignores him and approaches a girl, asking her if there is something she'd like to order. The girl, however, simply asks Haruhi if she's a Host Club member. Tamaki's father, the Chairman, then arrives at the Salon. When Tamaki calls the Chairman, "Father", however, the Chairman asks Tamaki to call him "Chairman" while they're at school. Tamaki's father then apologises to Kyouya for the problem that Tamaki has caused. Kyouya denies that it was any problem and asks the Chairman if he has any order. Tamaki, who tries to listen to the conversation, falls down when he hears his father asking for Haruhi.
Haruhi is surprised to meet the Chairman, thinking that he's not like Tamaki at all. She, however, changes her mind when he tries to charm her, asking her to call him "Oji-sama" (Uncle) instead of "Chairman". She also asks Haruhi to come to 'Uncle' if she encounters any problem. Tamaki is jealous to see this and asks his father to move that hand away from Haruhi. Their conversation, however, comes to abrupt end when all of a sudden they hear a loud slapping noise. It turns out Kyouya's father has slapped his own son. He's not happy with his son's involvement in the Host Club, asking Kyouya if this is Kyouya's attempt to embarass him. He then approaches Tamaki's father, apologising for the unsightly scene. Tamaki's father, however, tells Kyouya's father that he's being harsh on Kyouya even though he's a good kid. He believes Kyouya's father is in trouble and it's only a matter of time before mass communication starts to make a fuss about it.
Meanwhile, the other members are concerned about Kyouya. Haruhi wonders if the reason Kyouya got hit is because of the Host Club. Kyouya, however, tells the other that he's okay and kind of expected it. After Kyouya left, Tamaki feels bad about the incident, wondering if it's all the Host Club's fault. Tamaki's father then tells his son that this is the price of his selfishness. He wants to know what Tamaki will do from now on, if he wants to become the successor to the Suoh family. The chairman then walks over and lectures him about the price of his selfishness. When he sees Tamaki looking at Haruhi talking to customers, the Chairman asks Tamaki what he plans to do now, asking Tamaki if he wants to succeed the Suou family. The Chairman believes that this is a difficult choice and even he himself still doesn't know the answer. Because of this, he asks Tamaki if he really knows what he wants before pointing out that Tamaki's grandmother has arrived.
Haruhi is surprised to see Tamaki's grandmother making an appearance and even more so when Hunny tells her that he hates that old woman. Hunny doesn't need to explain this because when Tamaki greets his grandma, the old hag asks him not to touch her, even goes as far as calling Tamaki 'filthy'. She then calls out for Eclair, the girl that Haruhi saw before. Old hag basically wants Tamaki to escort Eclair to see the school festival today and tomorrow. Tamaki at first hesitates but eventually agree to her request. A few hours later, Tamaki has not returned to the Salon, causing everyone else to wonder where he could be. When the twins wonder who Eclair could be, Renge admits that she knows her. Eclair Tonnerre is the 3rd daughter of distinguished family with successful business in France. Kyoya confirms this, saying that the Tonnerre family have recently been buying Japanese companies. However, he has no idea why Eclair comes to see Tamaki.
Meanwhile, Tamaki and Eclair are in the middle of riding a Gondola in the middle of a Venice imitation created by the Art club. Eclair doesn't seem to enjoy this and instead wants Tamaki to play piano for her. The two goes to the music room and Tamaki starts to play for her. Haruhi, who's in the middle of changing her clothes hear this and presses her back against the door, alarming Eclair to her presence. While Tamaki plays the piano, Eclair asks him if this is the room that Tamaki and the Host Club normally use and points out how everyone seems to get along well with each other. Tamaki points out how they, the Host Club, are like family. In response, Eclair points out that Tamaki's real family is not in Japan and that he's just playing 'house' with the Host Club members. She then starts to guilt-trip Tamaki, claiming that his selfishness causes everyone to be miserable. She points out that Kyouya got hit by his father because of this.
This statement stops Tamaki and makes him remembers what Kyouya said beforehand. Tamaki starts to wonder if all Host Club members sacrifice their own life to be in the Host Club. For example, he wonders if Haruhi sacrifices her study time to become lawyer to come to the Club. Haruhi then barges in and explains that she just changed her clothes. She also points out that everyone else is unhappy that Tamaki left the Salon. Eclair apologises but Tamaki right now belongs to her and wonders why Haruhi looks jealous. Tamaki becomes excited to hear this, setting off the lightbulb inside Eclair's head (she realises that Haruhi is a girl). Haruhi denies that she's jealous and excuses herself for interfering. Tamaki wants to chase Haruhi but Eclair stops him, asking him if he likes that Mamedanuki (Dilligent Racoon). Tamaki is offended that Eclair calls his 'daughter' that way but Eclair pushes him off to a couch and tells him that she can give what he wants the most.
A dejected Haruhi returns to the Salon to the cheer of everyone. When they wonder where Tamaki could be, however, Haruhi tells them that Tamaki is in the 3rd music room with Eclair. Her acid tone makes everyone thinks that she's jealous. Haruhi denies this and simply tells them that Tamaki is being irresponsible. Kyouya believes that this is because of the order from Tamaki's grandma, causing Haruhi to remember the way the old hag gave Tamaki the cold shoulder. Because of this, she asks the other members why she behaves like this. Everyone looks around and eventually decides to tell Haruhi the background of Tamaki's family. Apparently around 20 years ago, the head of the Suoh family died young. Because of this, Tamaki's grandma married her son (Tamaki's father) off to a girl for business purpose, turning him into the Suoh successor. However, a few years later, Tamaki's father fell in love with another woman when he was in France.
From their union, Tamaki was born. Tamaki's father wanted to divorce his legal wife and married the woman he met in France. However, his mother opposed the idea. Since Tamaki's mother's health was poor and could not live in Japan, Tamaki was raised in France until he was 14. Unfortunately, Tamaki's mother's family experienced a business failure and accumulated large debt. At the same time, the Suoh has no heir in the family. Tamaki's grandma offered to give money to Tamaki's mother so she can live comfortably. In exchange, Tamaki must come to Japan. Moreover, he and his mother are not allowed to see each other again. Kyouya explains that although the Chairman is the head of the Suoh family, the one who's really in charge is old hag. Since Tamaki's mother had a weak body, she wouldn't be able to survive without the aid of the Suoh family. Because of this, Tamaki told his devastated mother that he'd go to Japan alone.
After the incident, either because she was sad or because she regretted accepting money in exchange for Tamaki, Tamaki's mother moved away and disappeared. Even now, her whereabouts is still not known. Upon hearing the story, haruhi remembers how during cremation, she once asked his father if she would never see her mother again. Haruhi is surprised about the whole thing because Tamaki is always happy so she didn't expect that his past is that harrowing. She wonders if she'd be able not to hold a grudge against the grandma if she were Tamaki. Kyouya tells Haruhi that although it's easy to feel sorry for Tamaki, he's glad that Tamaki is the way he is now. He thinks Tamaki will be okay. All of a sudden, however, Tamaki appears in the Salon with Eclair. He tells them that he has an important news to tell everyone: he's getting engaged to Eclair Tonerru. In addition to this, he will dismantle the Host Club after the Ouran Festival is over.
Impression:
It's a shame we didn't get to see the rest of the family like the twins' parents as well as Mori's brother. But maybe they'll show up on next week's episode. I don't think this series is going to end with everyone going their seperate way. We already have Honey and Clover for that kind of story. If anything, this episode actually emphasises how important the Host Club has been for Tamaki and for each of its members. It's true that they are just playing 'house' with one another but sometimes people have better 'familial' relation with those they don't have a blood relation with. In my own life, I've met people that I would have loved to have as my family. Sometimes I wonder how things would turn out if I can pick the people in my family. Unfortunately that's not how life works. I should just be thankful that I actually got to meet these people. Anyway, this episode is also quite heavy on the Tamaki/Haruhi front, which should please Tamaki/Haruhi fans.
I also realise that these fans are pissed off with Eclair right now but for some reason I am not sure if she really intends on marrying Tamaki. There is a scene where she looks solemn as she listens to Tamaki playing the Piano. This is then followed by what looks like a flashback showing her with possibly Tamaki's mother. I am starting to wonder if she has some kind of relation to Tamaki's mother and is simply there to test Tamaki if he still remembers her mother. But then again, this is Ouran and they usually don't write the villain in a complicated manner. Still, it would have been more interesting if Eclair is not a villain of the story. At the moment, however, all points suggest that she's a typical rich girl who wants to take over other company by marrying the son of the company's owner. Between her and the old hag, however, I hate the old hag a lot more. At least Eclair's motivation at this point seems to be business-related and not out of malice.
The old hag, however, acted out of pure hatred for Tamaki and his mother. It's kind of strange that she actually doesn't mind Eclair though, since I assume that Eclair is also a foreigner just like Tamaki's mother. I always thought that the fact Tamaki's mother is a foreigner is part of the reason why the old hag didn't allow the Chairman to marry Tamaki's mother. Speaking of the Chairman, he remains as amusing in this version although I'm not sure that I like him being so formal with Tamaki in this version. I always thought of him being a bit more carefree about this. Either way, he still is a good father for Tamaki. I like that he asked his son if he knows what he wants to do. In my opinion, a good parent should direct and help their kids to achieve things that the kids want to achieve as opposed to the things that the parents want to achieve. Tamaki's father can be classified in this category while Kyouya's father is the reverse of that.

I think I would have been pretty content with the anime ending with the festival arc as it is in the manga, because its so cute!! Yuck. That Eclair girl...yuck. I hate her. I'm not really a TamakiHaruhi fan, but that woman's personality ticks me off. She must be absolutely horrible if she can force Tamaki to dismantle the club (although I'm willing to bet that the rest of the members will come to save the day). I'm not totally dissapointed, I'm a huge Tamaki/Haruhi fan, but the "I'm engage" thing is a bit typical. Dunno if you've read the manga or at least heard manga spoilers, but I think they'll make the ending not that rush, 'cause

I just have to say it: It's the first time that I'm looking forward to some Tamaki&Haruhi scenes. Before this episode I never imagines those two together. In my opinion Tamaki is a baka.. and he is really nya~... anyway. I think in this episodes and the last of this series he will show some serious character depth. I'm really... REALLY looking forward to this and the following episode. For the first time I'm looking forward to Tamaki scenes... in the past he was just some funny goof... but now... mhmm... I think I will change my opinion about him. *gg*

You left out one important point from the summary: the conversation between Tamaki and Kyouya's fathers. It's apparently going to be a plot point (I bet the Ootori business group is in some deep trouble).

I am not really disappointed with this episode, but I don´t like how they made Tamaki act OOC. I dont`t think he would marry this stupid litte shit (I REALLY hate her), just to please his grandmother.... Especially after reading volume 6 of the manga:

And what was this with the reaction of Kyouya`s father? That was also not very likely. We now from ep 24 that he wanted Kyouya to befriend Tamaki, and he could not do this better than being in Tamaki`s Host Club.
Argh, I would love a Tamaki/Haruhi ending, and even though it appears to be one, I don´t trust BONES. I think, they are getting us worked up only to leave their relationship open. I don`t know what to expect from the lat episode. i am terribly afraid, that BONES screw things with an absurd ending... WAH, please don`t do this to us!!!!

I actually agree with ivy2005, it seems that they have made both Tamaki and Haruhi OCC here without enough solid development. Further more, just as stated, Kyouya's father wants Kyouya to be close to Tamaki but ended up slapping him because of something about disgracing their family's name. -_' ? But in reality wise, if I assume that Kyouya's father is the type to teach his son, that would have been the best way to show his son that there are many ways to get close to your clients/friends other then establishing you relation through some weird Club.
Well there's one thing a least humorous here. It would definitely be Tamaki's father. XD God, he's so funny and somehow Tamaki inherited the same charm from his old man. Like father like son. Such an old man with such a flirtous manner. I wonder if that's how Tamaki mother first met his father in France.
I soo prefer the manga. At least in the manga, all the characters aren't mean at all. That's why it's a magical land created by Bisuko sensei where laughter is the best medicine.

I don't think that they (BONES) will totally screw up Ouran- but there's always an off chance... But with only 26 eps and this anime being so popular, they HAVE to make a second season. I mean, okish animes get second seasons and OVAs so this HAS to continue.

As far as I know, that girl is NOT from the manga, as well as the whole engagement business... I think it is not the best way to get Tama and Haruhi together by making her jealous of some stupid bitch (argh, I want to punch BONES for creating such an stupid original character).
I agree with Yan, Tamaki`s father is hilarious!!! I really like his voice, it is just as appealing as Tamaki`s voice, just in a own way.

Yours eyes do not decieve you, it seems Cake girl (as i have taken to calling her - Eclair... ROFL..) was in contact with tamaki's mother. probably... to offer some 'deal' regarding support from the 'old hag'
tamaki is probably caught with knowing the whereabouts of his mother, and being able to see her again, if he agrees to marry cream cake. He thinks he's ruining the lives of the other hosts now... which is odd, i'd expect the real tamaki to have more confidence in his powers to change others, he is after all, nothing if not an optimist. But then, i always thought his mother would be his weakness...
So... anyone else think the sudden slap was a bit.. odd. staged?? Kyouya just carried on as if it's never happened... i was muchos confused.
and haruhi? she's started being more open towards tamaki since chapter 40 and his little forehead kiss, but it's a bit premature to be calling her jealous. i suspect they're just teasing her. Eclair definatlely was, she though she was male until tamaki thought it was cute...

I hear in the manga he's happy about the host club and congrats kyouya for keeping it running behind the scenes. I wonder why BONES felt it was necessary to make Ootori-san the bad guy.
Like Garten, I also think there's a major chance that Eclair is a positive character, especially with the sequence involving her with apparently who appeared to be Tamaki's mother - and since she also happens to be from France, I think this might spell out some interesting connotations.
We've certainly gotten to see a very interesting and new side of Tamaki, a very touching and tragic past. The parellels of Tamaki's situation, having to live without his mother, with Haruhi, whose mother has passed away, is also interesting, but perhaps even more saddening and tragic for Tamaki, since even though his mother is alive and also ill, he can't even see her.

I think it's obvious that the writers like the haruhi/tamaki pairing and they're only using eclair as a way so that haruhi and tamaki would realized their feelings. I wanted to tell more but im using my school's computer >_<

I always expected Haruhi to be the one who was most likely to cause the host club to disband rather than Tamaki (or more specifically, that icy demon that's telling him to. Those eyes of hers are kinda freaky.).

Ok.... I just saw this and I think i'm gonna cry or something. One more episode and it's over plus it's so sad normally, Ouran is that funny kind of show which was what it was in the beginning Tamaki hanging off the chandeleir and what not. But it's sad.

Kyoya's ignoring of his father's slap isn't out of character as he's very good at keeping the lid on his emotions. Also, who's to say that he hasn't been slapped by his father before. It's also an interesting bit of character development in that Kyoya isn't as affected (as he seems in this episode) by his father's displeasure as he would have been had he not spent all this time with Tamaki.

That girl seems really cold. When I first saw the screenshot of her, the first thing I noticed were her eyes. They were like glass, or ice. Every other person in this series with blue eyes, they are warm and comforting. Hers are just isolating and cold.
Also, I truly believe(Though I'm a loyal Tama/Haru fan) that Tamaki would marry this girl if but for the chance to see his mother. He loves his mother that much that he would be willing to give up everything that he loves and sacrifice his own happiness.
But hopefully the Host Club will be able to dissuade him from this course of action.^^

I just thought it was strange that Hunny seemed to serve as Haruhi's main source of enlightenment all of a sudden. And even though Kyouya seemed to be indifferent to his father's rebuke, the way he brushes past Tamaki reveals how pissed off he actually is about being slapped in public. Hope the twins' parents show up in the final episode - I hear they're a sweet couple.

Thanks so much! I really hope this ends well. It's a Romantic Comedy, so I guess they probably won't end in a sad way. I can't decide who I want Haruhi to be with. I think Tamaki, but I'm not sure. I think they are all sexy- with the exception of Honey, he's just plain kawaii. The twins are totally yummy, Mori has that quiet hotness, Kyouya is just smart, aristocratic sexy. Tamaki is just funny, but I think there is a whole lot more to him than there appears to be. This ep showed that some I think. He isn't quite as carefree as he seems.
When I saw the manga translation of this bit, the thought that really struck me is how much more I like Honey now. You can judge a man by who he hates.

Did any one notice when Tamaki was playing the piano that the vase that Haruhi broke in the very begining was fully replaced? This proves that Haruhi satyed for some one! I HOPE IT'S TAMAKI!!!! DON'T MARRY THAT EVIL CHICK!!! NOOO!!!! I seriously think Tamaki only agreed to marry that chick and end the Host Club because she found out about Haruhi. I'm a little confused, because a huge chunk of this storyline is not in the manga. I can't decide whether I like it or not. I remember the reference to Jean Webster's Daddy Long Legs in the manga - in fact, after reading that I went out and bought it! I do that a lot, and read all the foreign/translated books recommended by manga artists in their manga/omake stuff.
Anyways, I'm going to decide that I'm still startled by the changed storyline. The manga version is pretty hilarious, but at the same time it isn't ending a series or anything at that point (vol. 4). In any case, I've gotten really bored with series like NANA where each episode is exactly like the manga - word for word - just in color. That just gets incredibly dull after awhile, but I guess NANA's storyline isn't one that can be altered much.

Aww... don't be so hard on cakie... I mean eclair. I actually like her. She kinda reminds me of... wait for it... Quistis Trepe. Also, just because she's got a cold stare, I wouldn't call her a bad person.
Heck, the fact that she's interested in Haruhi (From the start) could actually mean something. Maybe here's what happened: Cake has always been in contact with Tamaki's mom, and news of him liking "boy" haruhi might've caused his mom some concerned, so she sent/asked Cake to find out why Tamaki's so attracted to "boy" Haruhi (hence, all the spying). And how that Cake's realised that Haruhi's a gal, she might swoop in and help those two get along better (or the below).
Or maybe she's sent by Tamaki's mom to see if Tamaki would make the same decision she made (eg, denying his feelings for Haruhi, getting engaged with Cake, and maybe get the chance to find out the whereabouts of his mom). Or in the best case scenario, it was his grandma who had planned it. Sure, she may be strict, but she may be good onibaba... who knows?
(having wrote the second half, just combine it with the first half, and ignore the "help them to get along better" part)
my point simply being, I've yet to find a single aspect of cake that suggests that she is an evil person (other than cakes causing cavities, and obesity) . Heck, I couldn't even find a single smirk, or smirk-dimple on her. So my guess is, she's not really a villian.

Actually, I thought it was pretty interesting that her name is Lightning Thunder, because that is exactly what scares Haruhi the most. It's also a fear that she doesn't really admit to (in that she doesn't tell anyone about it). So I'm thinking the allusion the writers are trying to make here is that the thought of losing Tamaki and the Host Club to Eclair is a very frightening thing for Haruhi, though she may not be able to admit it. And, thinking back to episode 8, Tamaki was the first person she revealed her fear to, so perhaps the last episode ( ;_; I still get so sad when I think about it!) will show Tamaki once again allaying her fears about lightning/thunder (Eclair, in this case). I'm hoping so; it would make for a nice closing, no?
Well, Haruhi didn`t reveal her fear of thunder to Tamaki, it was an accident! And the name IS silly in my opinion. Even with that interpretation.
I`m really wondering, how it will all end. I just can`t imagine, that Haruhi and Tamaki will confess to each other, we can be happy, when the Host Club stays together.

In the end Hikaru got jealous when he founds out from Kyoya that Tamaki and Haruhi were at Misuzu's inn (Haruhi's dad's friend invited them) for 1 week. Ouran High Host Club [chapter 43]
Friday, September 1, 2006 @ 08:06 p.m.
In Tamaki second [I think Tamaki lives separte from the grandmother] residence at 5:00am on the forth day of summer vacation, an alarm clock is ringing. Tamaki woke up and dress up. As he goes down the stairs, the maids are still sleepy and the butler? is even in his sleeping clothes, carrying a pillow. ^^; The headmistress asked if he is going out again so early in the morning. Tamaki apologized for making them wake up so early and told them not to bother with him, they should just go back to sleep. She then asked about breakbast but Tamaki said no for he would eat some place else, and for them to take care of his dog. The dog looked at him sadly, am I going to guard the house again. Tamaki, complete with tears, hugs his dog and apologizes to it as he told it that he/she can come with him. And they left as the servants wonder where does Tamaki go so early in the morning.
In Haruhi’s residence at 6am, Haruhi and Ranka wakes up from a noise and they found Meiko sewing some clothes on the sewing machine. They asked why she is doing it so early in the morning. Meiko replied that she is sewing what she will wear that day and asked them to go back to sleep. They thought that they can’t sleep with the noise. Haruhi told her that the date is suppose to be in the afternoon so she should have lots of time to do that. Meiko said that during summer, she tends to make clothes and since she has a date with Tamaki and others, she doesn’t have time to make the clothes. Haruhi then asked if it is her homework. Meiko is irritated and calls Haruhi stupid and showed her her list of clothes that she wears everyday which she plans to make. Meiko then says that she is hungry and if there is anything to eat. Haruhi then offered to make her some. Meiko said even bread would be okay. Ranka then told her there are some buns that Misuzu made and called it ‘Meiko bread’ – it looked like Meiko. ^^; Meiko then took the buns and drowned it in water as Ranka and Haruhi thought that she is too much. Meiko told them not to mention that person’s name.
Flashback: Misuzu ended up going back to Karuizawa as she apologized to Haruhi and Ranka for the trouble. He told them that he wanted to bring Meiko with him and he even made an apron [frills and ribbons] for her. He told them that before their relations are really good for they would play making dresses for dolls and baking together but then, it can’t be helped for he has become this ‘different’ person that Meiko’s mother took Meiko to a different place. It is as Meiko said, he is a father who left his daughter. Misuzu then told Haruhi that he will leave everything to her and Haruhi said yes. End of Flashback. Haruhi thought while cooking some lunch [fried rice, soup and salad], that even if she promised to, she really doesn’t really know how to make the two be in good terms again because she doesn’t how Meiko feels/thinks. Then, she remembered Tamaki and his grandmother’s bad relationship and thought that if it is Tamaki, he would be able to understand Meiko’s feelings. Just then, Meiko asked about Tamaki and Haruhi was surprised.
Meiko is putting make-up. She asked Haruhi what type of girl Tamaki likes. Haruhi thought that Tamaki is being flirty with any girls. She replied that she doesn’t know. What does he like? Haruhi replied she isn’t sure. Then, Meiko asks other things about Tamaki but Haruhi can’t quite answer that Meiko is angry as she asked Haruhi, isn’t she going to help her. Haruhi apologizes and told her that she just doesn’t want to get too involved/not interested with Tamaki/his life. Meiko said it is alright, she will just figure it out when they go out. She then noticed the time and prepares to leave. Haruhi then says that she haven’t dress up yet. Meiko said that she doesn’t have to go. Haruhi asked if it is alright if she would go alone. Meiko said that she will be alright for being alone, the attention? would be her alone and if she plans on doing it because she was asked to, don’t bother. Haruhi calls out her name as Meiko insist that she doesn’t have to go too for she won’t plan on escaping for her things are all there and if she stays there, she have an excuse to get close to Tamaki. Haruhi said it isn’t that and told her to bring this – it looked like an energy drink as Meiko was puzzled. She will learn later on. ^_^
That night, Meiko arrived and she looked drained. She asked if dinner is ready and Haruhi said that she is almost finished. Meiko then drops on the floor. Meiko said that she was planning to bring the Ouran boys to this place, hoping to go to a posh place but then, there is a huge line? so Tamaki then said that he wanted to ride on a train. Haruhi already knows what happened next from her expression. Meiko says that the Ouran boys were all exclaiming so loud for it is their first time as Meiko tries to tell them to be quiet. She is also irritated with Kyoya who was snubbing them – pretending that he isn’t with the group. Then, Tamaki goes on a monologue. Meiko told Haruhi that she was so embarrassed that she could die. Haruhi said that she could easily imagine it and told Meiko not to think about it much and just eat dinner. Meiko then told Haruhi it was delicious. Haruhi thanked her. Then, Meiko says that speaking of delicious food, she wanted the Ouran boys to treat her dinner at some expensive restaurant but Tamaki says, while holding a guide to Tokyo, he said he wanted to go to this place where there are a lot of old people – old people heaven/park. There, they ate lots of different things as Meiko calls out to Honey to stop wandering about eating different food. Then, there is some incense as everyone looked at it curiously. Meiko is busy asking what Honey was doing who is sitting on Mori’s shoulders, feeing birds with his fishballs. Then, she said that Tamaki has been talking with the old ladies/grandmas.
Meiko then gave Haruhi a panda keychain saying that it is a gift from everybody. Meiko then said that while Tamaki is really warm with the old ladies that she can feel it. Haruhi was surprised and then smiles that she can also imagine this. Meiko was surprised by her reaction then, a phone rings. Haruhi answers it and when Meiko asked who it was, Haruhi says that it is the landlord and she would have to go out to meet him. Haruhi runs out and it was Tamaki. Tamaki apologized for calling her out and asked if Meiko doesn’t know. Haruhi said of course. Tamaki then gave her something. Haruhi opens the bag and it is homemade strawberry jam. Tamaki told her it is a secret and to keep that secret from Meiko. Tamaki then starts crying as he says he is happy that he can talk like that with Haruhi again. [She has been snubbing him for some time.] Haruhi then apologizes for it. Tamaki says that there is another date with Meiko and he asks if Haruhi would go, too. He says that the next day, they are going to take pictures at photo sticker booths and play in arcades. Haruhi said that she doesn’t want to for it is bothersome. Tamaki then cries why she says that as Haruhi told him that his voice is too loud. Tamaki then asks if she is busy tomorrow. Haruhi apologizes and says yes though she said that because Meiko said that she shouldn’t go with them. Tamaki then smiles and said that it is okay for he has seen Haruhi today. He then says that he goes out every morning until in the afternoon and that he is free during that time. Tamaki asked her to go out/play together and it would be nice to spend summer together –ah, something like that, I think. Tamaki pats her head as he said that and bids her good night and goodbye.
The next morning, Haruhi made some pancakes with the jam Tamaki gave her as topping. After eating it, Meiko asks about the jam and Haruhi said it was given by the landlord. Meiko says, is that so and looks a bit nostalgic. Haruhi noticed it. Haruhi asks if she is going out again and Meiko said that she is and definitely, this time would be fun. That night, Meiko came back, drained of energy, from all the posing and that they had been playing. Meiko then gives her a bag of small stuffed toys – from UFO catcher, perhaps. While Meiko was watching tv, Haruhi found a letter inside the bag of toys. It is a recipe. Then, days goes by, with Meiko going on dates with the Ouran boys – to the zoo..karaoke. And each time, a gift for Haruhi with some bottled homemade food and recipes. To be noted, they saw a penguin and said that it looked like Haruhi. ^^; Then, Haruhi made omrice [fried rice inside an omelette] and Meiko is again nostalgic and said that it is delicious. Meiko then says that the omelette is too thin that it easily tears – the one Haruhi made has a hole. Haruhi apologizes for not making it right and asks if it still can be eaten. Meiko says that for omrice, the shape is important. Haruhi said then, she would cover it with yesterday’s leftovers as she put some food on Meiko’s omrice. Meiko asks what is she doing and don’t do such things. I think Haruhi said that when one is entertaining, one doesn’t need to use one’s brain – don’t quite get that. Meiko then said, is that so, and she laughs that it is so. The two girls then laughs as Ranka smiles, thinking that it is nice to hear the girls laugh early in the morning. After breakfast, Haruhi says that since Meiko has work now [parttime job] so starting tomorrow, she has to go out early in the morning but she will prepare Meiko’s breakfast. Meiko said it is okay. Haruhi then though, Tamaki is really a strange person – she doesn’t know what he likes to eat or likes to do but she does know that Tamaki is very good at understanding people.
At Tamaki’s second residence, Tamaki with dog were greeted by the servants who apparently got used to Tamaki going out early and as he goes out the door, the butler told her that someone is waiting for him at the gate. Tamaki looked and it was Haruhi. Tamaki greeted her as Haruhi asked if he is going to Karuizawa. Tamaki was shocked as to how did Haruhi knew about it. Haruhi said that she has a feeling about it for she has eaten Misuzu’s jam and the recipes he gave her were written by Misuzu. Haruhi then asks if every morning until noon everyday, he goes with the to work parttime at Misuzu’s place. Tamaki blushes as he thought Haruhi figured it out. Tamaki said that it is parttime work, yes, it is, he just wants to help Misuzu so that Misuzu’s cooking can be tasted by Meiko and that is all to it. Tamaki laughs nervously. Haruhi then says that it is really a good idea, can she help, too? Haruhi then thought that what Tamaki did, she really approve of and she is happy how he does it.

At the twins’ room, Hikaru calls up Kyoya asking where Tamaki goes until the afternoon since he can’t contact Tamaki. Hikaru exclaims outloud that Tamaki is in Karuizawa, working at Misuzu’s place, he wonders what the heck is Tamaki doing. Kaoru who was reading a book, looked surprised when Hikaru voices out loud that Haruhi has been going with him for the whole week. Hikaru then says is that so, Haruhi herself who wanted to go, too. That is quite unexpected. By then, Hikaru has a evil, not happy look on his face as Kaoru notices it.

Wow, this is the first time i've seen so many comments in the Ouran section of this blog.
While I am glad that the animators have deviated from the manga at this point, I really hope for a good ending and that there will be more Ouran goodness in the future (praying for a 2nd season).
The thought of Ouran ending next week makes me so sad. *Cries* I haven't seen anything as good as Ouran which really is one of the best animes ever. I wonder if I will become depressed without my weekly Ouran fix.
I had randomly downloaded this anime when it just came out and I hadn't known at that point of time that I would love this anime(and manga, seriously I have NEVER bought any manga before Ouran came into my life) to bits. The animators did a wonderful job and I wish they would keep it up for other animes that they are doing
I forgot to say that I think Eclair's eye color is very nice, I really like that shade of blue. It is just that both the color of her eyes and her hair do not match and that she does have the features of an ice queen which makes her look slightly weird when combined together. -.-"

and i might just add that ouran rocks! can't say the same for that eclair witch that they've brought in though.. she needs a face transplant and personality lobotomy before she is worthy of our tama chan.
The author should have made an effort while choosing "Eclaire Tonnerre" 's name , it sounds really stupid in French , it's the same as calling somebody "Lightning Thunder"
I mean , we have so many beautifuls names in french , so why do the keep on choosing common nouns insteads of propers names??
Anyway , this ep was ok but it's kind of weird for a preclimatic ep. everything go so fast and so sudden. All the tamaki's clan just pop up with a lot of interrogation and problems and then tamaki make his big announce. I wish they ll add more drama in the next eps

I suspect that Eclair is actually a relation or friend of Tamaki's mother who is trying to help him reunite with her. (In fact, it's possible that the whole drive of her family in taking over so many Japanese conglomerates is to help Tamaki's mother's family and possibly allow them to "reclaim" him) After all, she DID say that she could help him "get what he wants", and I seriously doubt she meant the Suoh legacy. So she more than likely means either, 1) a reunion with his mother, or 2) a deeper-than-friendship relationship with Haruhi.
Either way, I suspect that Eclair is more than she seems and really is looking out for Tamaki's happiness. The engagement may really be a way for her family to dictate terms to the Suohs, and I'm sure one of those terms is allowing Tamaki to see his mother again.
You can easily tell that Tamaki is not in love with Eclair and she probably made a deal with him that he can see his mother if he marries her. After all, the only thing I can imagine Tamaki would want so badly, is to see his mother.
As for the old hag, I agree with Honey-senpai and I hate her guts as well.
I think Eclair looks awefully like Tamaki's grandmother (except for eye color~it really is pretty). And she seems to know Tamaki's mother. Maybe she's his cousin or something.
It seems like she wants to help Tamaki though. I don't think the two are in love with each other. And I don't think they'd decide on getting married on their own without their parents' approval, especially if it's just for the money.
Maybe the "engage" means something else...a different meaning, maybe? Like...they are doing some 'business' with each other.
Please, please, Garten! Let us know as soon as possible what happens in the last episode (out later today)!

Eclair looks so much older than Tamaki, and she definitely doesn't look right for him. Heck, I'm a big Haruhi+Tamaki shipper, so I'm all for the two of them ending up together. :) If Eclair's purpose is to bring Tamaki and his mom together, then that's cool. Can't wait for the last episode.
By the way, call me an idiot, but does that mean the manga is over too? :S
... Eclair isn't that *ugly* ... Actually. I think she's pretty ^O^ *gets hit by thousands of chairs* Pretty in a... european/western/kinda unconventional way. But that doesn't stop me from hating her, somewhat. *lol*
Anyway. I loved this episode. Made me hang off the edge of my chair. XD And did anyone else notice the twins' hair in the salon?? Did anyone else realize how (even more) similar they looked to the Weasley twins?? *hearts*
Also, despite all the comments that speculate on tamaki ending up marrying Eclair, I honestly think it's definitely not gonna happen. That would throw off the storyline. And anyway, Tama-chan was probably (most likely) black-mailed into saying what he said in the last part (the whole disbanding thing plus the engagement) Eclair probably has his mom in custody somewhere.
.. though you have to admit. She knew exactly where to hit him. The entire "your family isn't real" thing is such good guilt-trip-material. Especially since the "playing house" thing is like a substitute for the family he misses (or perhaps, never even had. I understand that he never had the chance to be with both parents at the same time?)
and.. and... the ending.... such a well-executed cliff-hanger!!! *applauds*

That girl has a very cold facial expression.
And it looks like Haruhi does not like how they are spending time together. Eclair has this evil aura around her. She is blackmailing the poor guy. Though when she thinks of Tamaki's mom, her face becomes softer. So I'm confused by her. Either way I'm sure she will not end up with him.
Next Ep=Everyone looks sad. Even the ploting Kyouya. It looks like the twins are comforting a girl with brown hair (maybe Haruhi). Honey looks ready to fight. Tamaki looks depressed as heck. And Finaly it looks like Haruhi is reaching out for Tamaki in that dress.

I think I understand this after just watching the ep. she's really rich and all being a dauchess I think that's how it's spelt. You see the ep talks about Tak's mother.She marries him, and he can have the money most likely to have his mother back. Wouldn't you want your mother back in his case? When she threw him on the couch after he played the paino she wasn't just talking about "love" she was talking about his mother. The one thing he wants more then Haruki, or is it. You'll find out next ep. (I haven't even seen the last ep. LUNAR hasn't subbed it yet for me ^^)
