Wow, I'm impressed. This turns out to be funnier than I expected it to be. Kudos to the animators for making what could have been a boring episode into a funny one. This episode also puts the Host Club's status in question, which I assume will become a catalyst for an upcoming storyline. I wonder if this means that the competition to win Haruhi's affection are going to be stronger now that everyone has vested interest in her. I also have to say that I'm quite amused to know that all of these times Tamaki doesn't realise his feelings for Haruhi. I thought he was joking around everytime he refers himself as Haruhi's 'father'. But it's obvious now that I was wrong. As a side note, was that scene with Hikaru holding a baseball bat supposed to be a nod to Higurashi no Naku Koro ni's Maebara Keiichi?

Continuing from the previous episode, this one begins with Kasanoda apologising to Haruhi before fleeing out of the change room. Much to his shock, the twins appear and ask him if he saw it. Because he panics, Kasanoda stammers and keeps changing his answer from saying that he didn't see anything to saying that he saw on a glance to finally realising that he did see it. Tamaki suddenly turns white upon hearing this confession. Hunny suddenly appears in front of Kasanoda, telling the poor guy that a man who can't tell the truth is a trash. This traumatises Kasanoda even more because he didn't expect someone who's supposed to be a "Lovely Item" to be so scary. Kasanoda eventually calms down and ask the twin if Haruhi really is a woman. The statement sends Tamaki into a shock to the point that he imagines himself as a howling tyrannosaurus. He's even more shocked when Kasanoda admits that he saw Haruhi wearing only her underwear.

The twins completely lost their temper upon finding out about this and ready to re-enact the bloody climax from Onikakushi arc of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni using a baseball bat and presumably, Kasanoda's head. Kyouya, however, stops them because he thinks it's difficult to cover up a crime. The twins wonder how Kyouya can be so calm, asking him to look at Tamaki, who is in extreme shock. After seeing this, Kyouya tells Kasanoda that now it comes to this, they have no choice but to 'talk' about it. He explains that due to a minor circumstance, Haruhi had no choice but to conceal the fact that she's a girl. He admits that they have no right to stop Kasanoda from telling others about this. However, if he does this, Kyouya will unleash Ootori private police on him. Haruhi then comes out of the changing room, asking the Host Club members to stop threatening Kasanoda. She tells the guy that she doesn't mind if he wants to tell this to others.

Later on that night, Kasanoda refuses to come out of his room or eat his dinner. Tetsuya believes that Kasanoda is troubled by love because when he brings food to Kasanoda's room, he saw Kasanoda picking flower petals while saying "I like her, I love her". Kasanoda's henchmen are surprised to hear this and even more so when they think that the person that Kasanoda is in love with is a man. Meanwhile, Kasanoda is tortured by his own imagination of Haruhi saying words that she said before before eventually deciding to protect Haruhi's secret. The next day, Kasanoda arrives at the Host Club, surprising all of the female customers. Their surprise, however, turns into excitement when Kasanoda tells them that he's looking for Haruhi. The girls immediately assume that Kasanoda and Haruhi are involved. Renge suddenly appears out of nowhere on top of her stage and the fangirls immediately ask her if Kasanoda really swings that way.

Kasanoda is shocked to hear this and tries to give them his human blizzard eyes but he fails to do so because his attempt is countered by the moe fire of yaoi fangirls. Just then Haruhi appears carrying a tea for Kasanoda. Kasanoda can't help himself from blushing when Haruhi sits next to him and pours the tea. The twins become jealous and ask Kyouya to get rid of Kasanoda. Kyouya, however, refuses to do this since Kasanoda promises to protect Haruhi's secret. Moreover, he attracts their customers' attention. The twins are not happy with this and decide to send Tamaki to interfere. Unfortunately for them, Tamaki is too shocked to do anything but playing with a toy that Haruhi gets when she bought instant coffee. Because of this the twins tell Tamaki that if this continues, Haruhi will become "Ane-san", a Yakuza wife. Tamaki is horrified to hear this and snaps out of his depression. He tells Kasanoda that as Haruhi's 'father' he opposes this.

A confused Kasanoda asks Tamaki if he's really Haruhi's father. Tamaki stammers and tells him that they are not related by blood but he's like a father to Haruhi. Kasanoda tells Tamaki that this means he's not Haruhi's father, causing Tamaki to suffer from an identity crisis. He starts to wonder why he thinks Haruhi is cute and dear to him if it's not a fatherly feeling. Why is he worried with the idea of Haruhi being with another man? If he's not a father, then he has no right to interfere her relationship with another man. Kaoru, who has vested interest in the matter, asks Tamaki if he's confused because he doesn't want to destroy their connections as a 'family'. Unfortunately for Kaoru, Tamaki has no idea what he's talking about so Kaoru concludes that Tamaki is an idiot. Thankfully for Tamaki, Haruhi tells Kasanoda that Tamaki looks like her father. Tamaki immediately regains his spirit and tells everyone although he's not Haruhi's father, he's similar to her father.

Meanwhile, Kasanoda decides to take the plunge, trying to tell Haruhi that when it comes to her, he.... unfortunately Haruhi dashed his hope by saying that having a friend is nice. Renge and the other fangirls are disappointed by this development and feel sorry for Kasanoda. Even the twins feel sorry for him. In the end, however, Kasanoda gets consolation prize when everyone wants to become his friends. Tamaki then tells Kyouya that when he thinks about Kasanoda's feelings for Haruhi, his heart ache a little bit. Kyouya tells Tamaki that is strange since Tamaki is supposed to be her 'father'. Later on, everyone protests when Tamaki wants to take Haruhi to play hide and seek together. On top of a tree, Hunny wonders if it's okay for Tamaki to not realise his feelings for Haruhi and if any of them will make progress by the time they graduate. Unfortunately Mori has no answer for this. Down in the maze, Tamaki asks the twins not to touch *his* Haruhi. In retaliation, the twins tell Tamaki that Haruhi does not belong to him. Haruhi tells them that she belongs to no one.

Impression:

I can't believe that all of these times Tamaki actually believes that his feelings for Haruhi is a fatherly feeling. I always thought that it's weird that he refers himself as Haruhi's father because he acts more like her 'sugar daddy' instead of a real father. I feel stupid now for thinking that he knew what he was doing instead of whole-heartedly thinking that he's Haruhi's father. Props to the animators for including that pumpkin joke with Kaoru though. I now understands why they decided to tackle the twins' issue prior to dealing with this story. This is because Kaoru actually believes in the whole 'family' concept that Tamaki came up with. I wonder if this will lead to that 'dissolution of the Host Club' storyline that will come up in two weeks time. If the concept of 'family' that holds them together is no longer there, and if everyone is now out to win Haruhi's affection, I can see this turning into one ugly fight between the members.

Speaking of Haruhi, I am starting to wonder if she's really that clueless about everyone's feelings for her. I mean does anyone actually stammer that badly when they're just trying to tell another person that they want to become his/her friends? Having said that, her obliviousness to Kasanoda's feeling did create a rather funny situation. Renge and those fangirls are awesome in their over-the-top reaction. It was funny how they immediately assume that Haruhi and Kasanoda are in a relationship. They even defeated Kasanoda's iceman looks with their sizzling Yaoi spirit. I also like the Yakuza's wife joke, Hunny's not-so-lovely "lovely item" personality, and the part where everyone wants to be Kasanoda's friends. Props to the writer for doing a good job on solving Kasanoda's problem and introducing Tamaki's problem in one episode. The end is a bit dark with everyone fighting for Haruhi's affection but since we're on it, I may as well cheer for Mori/Haruhi pairing.

On next week's episode: It's the first time Tamaki meets Kyouya. Hmm, that's not a bad rendering of Kinkakuji (The Golden Pavilion) in Kyoto.

Now that Kasanoda has resigned himself to postion of friend Go Mori! Either of the twins would make Haruhi miserable, Tamaki is the comnsumate fool, and Kyoya is too busy plotting.

Great ep! Can't wait to see it!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say that Tamaki is the best choice for Haruhi because he's a foil to her uninterested and blunt common-sensical attitude. And the fact that Ranka-san sees Tamaki as an enemy, which could mean that Ranka-san doesn't want to think that tamaki is good for haruhi since he's just like him.

Plus, you know what they say..........

Most women marry men that are like their fathers.

Tamaki x Haruhi all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a suspicious feeling that Haruhi really knows that all these people do want her affections. But while the fun and games go on she ultimately doesn't want a part of it because she wants to "belong to nobody". So even though she plays along by acting oblivious and cutting in in a way that she really doesn't know, I think she does know, deep inside. Though of course this could be totally wrong...

I was almost rooting for Haruhi x Kasanoda but it's a pity, oh well.

I feel real bad for Kasanoda-kun. He was soooo close..but I'm not suprised Haruhi did that...after all she did the same thing to Arai in middle school...:P

Strong ep. I am looking forward to next week's ep mainly because I am a Kyouya fan...scary thing is....some girls actually think I look like Kyouya or at least reminds them about him :P

After watching this I have to say that tamaki is really the biggest baka of all centuries... I never thought he would be this dense... it is sad actually. He doesn`t recognize his feelings for Haruhi and thus doesn`t say something to her, and she keeps clueless... Argh!

As Garten said, the boys seem to start fighting for Haruhi, but as much as would like to see them confessing in the "Declaration of Dissolution"-episode... I don`t see it coming.

I don`t know what plot the recent japanese chapters contain, but i just can`t imagine such an event from Bisco Hatori, but we don`t even know, if this episode referes to a chapter at all..

Wow, now I am jabbering. i can`t wait to see the end of the anime, even though it will be sad, that Ouran High School Host Club ends *sniffle*

and that, is the reason why Haruhi is my favourite shojo heroine :)

I do feel for Kasanoda though..oh well...As it was said in the other episode "expected this from her"

I'm not sure where I stand on pairings, to be honest. I mean, I do find the idea of Haruhi and Mori, in the words of Kyoya 'very interesting" but yet, there's another side of me which believes that Haruhi not actually falling in love with anyone quite exciting, as I've never seen it done. I'd love Ouran to set a precedent on all other shojo animes, demonstrating that the main female character doesn't *gasp!* actually have to fall in love with anyone..

As for Haruhi x Tamaki.. I... don't like the idea of Haruhi falling in love with someone who's exactley like her father..

Tamaki has been feeling the fatherly thing for Haruhi all throughout the 8 volumes of the manga but the anime cut out a LOT of HaruhixTamaki scenes which is why people who haven't read the manga probably found this episode a bit of a "Whoa what just happened". The twins sorta "give up" Haruhi to Tamaki in the manga which is why I don't know why they added that last scene of having everyone fight over her. I honestly hope they push the show towards her & Tamaki or else it's gonna be a hell of a shitty ending

Umm, which part of the manga did it show that the twins were "giving up" on Haruhi? As a matter of fact, as Baal earlier mentioned, I too think that Hikaru is going to fight with Tamaki for Haruhi according to what is happening in the latest chapter of the manga publicized in the September issue of Japan's Lala Magazine.

I'd love Hikaru x Haruhi, though I think Kasanoda x Haruhi would be much better.

You know, I don't think Tamaki's *that* similar to Ranka. I mean, the only times he's similar to Ranka is when he's being the 'father' - he really believes in that role, after all.

In Chapter 40, Tamaki's sick and thinks about his feelings, stressing because he wanted to kiss her but thought that was wrong of him because he's her 'father'. When the host club visits him, he feels rather akward around Haruhi and completely freaks out when their fingers accidentally brush against each other. He shyly and nervously crawls back to bed, with his head completely hidden under the covers. When Haruhi sees and picks up a photo of his mother, he snatches it away and keeps it with him, the redness of his head clearly visible even though he's still hiding under the covers.

September 7, 2006 | thea wrote:

This is the way I see it. This is a romantic comedy with Haruhi and Tamaki as the main characters, as Tamaki himself states in the fourth episode. Only the twins aren't the homo side characters. Everybody but Tamaki and Haruhi knows that Tamaki's in love with her. But Haruhi doesn't really display any sort of more than friendship feelings for him. The only episode where she seems to be attracted to anyone of the hosts is Jungle Pool SOS when she blushes and becomes "a bit happy" when Mori calls her by her first name. But the Mori/ Haruhi pairing is not probable because Mori doesn't display any interest in Haruhi. Tamaki is the likeliest candidate to win Haruhi's affection in the end because 1. Her father recognizes him as the possible "someone" for her. 2. They both have similar backgrounds, both are single children and both lost their mothers early on. 3. In episode 3, the physical examination one, Haruhi seriously ponders quitting the host club and there's this one thing about this kite that's flying in the air. When Tamaki tries to dress up as her so no one will find out she's a girl she sighs and says that he's a person that can only exist in a relaxed world anyway and the kite starts to plummet, the kite starts to plummet every time Tamaki does something that makes her dissappointed in him and it only starts to soar again after he says something intelligent and compassionate about the father they were helping out and his daughter. Immediately after she announces that she will remain in the club and adds that she's not doing it for the food but to "repay her debt," which is code for lame excuse because in the very first episode she says the same thing after Tamaki jumps in the pool and searches for her lunch money with her. She is surprised by this side of him and starts staring at him which prompts him to ask if she's fallen for him to which she responds by snatching her wallet from him and answering much to quickly "who would?" Then he asks "Then why are you doing this" and she again responds to pay off my debt. She says it herself that she hates being in the host club and when faced with the possibility of having to quit she says she can find some other way to repay her debt, so it's safe to say that the debt is not really the reason that she stays in the host club. I think she's attracted to something more. I think she is put off by Tamaki's playboy exterior but she sees something more than that in him and that's what keeps her there, the prospect of getting to know the not so stupid, affectionate part of Tamaki that comes out in instances such as when he jumps in the water after her and when he tells the twins that they are both the same existance and seperate identities and that if they open the door to the world they might find someone who will be able to distinguish between them. I think Kaoru is right that Tamaki doesn't want to recognize his feelings for Haruhi because he doesn't want to break up their family. After all Tamaki is in fact a lonely character. Kyoya tells Haruhi in one episode that Tamaki himself didn't have many friends before he created the host club. We know that he watched his mother suffer from sickness at an early age and didn't have any friends his age because he stayed by her side to play piano and cheer her up. The twins reveal that his father's legitimate wife is not in fact his biological mother and he's been abandonned by his real mom. He doesn't want to lose the host club because they're his only friends and family, but the carriage is only supposed to last until midnight. In the end I don't see Tamaki bowing out of the way in order for a Hikaru/Haruhi relationship to form, I see Hikaru bowing out, because after all even if Hikaru is attracted to Haruhi, he might not yet be fully prepared to leave his tight knit relationship with his brother in order to have a girlfriend and consequently a part of his life completely independent from that of Kaoru.

But if All else fails, then Tamaki would be a better choice. Let's face it, you cant see how much attraction Haruhi would have towards Mori. He's too taciturn, and quiet, and that's too much like her. She basically needs someone loud and showy but sensitive at times to balance her charater a bit.

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting Tamaki to be quite so...clueless in this episode. Don't get me wrong, it was really funny (Robot Tamaki PWNS the freebie supermarket toy!), but he raises denial to a whole new level. As Kyon from SHnY would say, "Freud would have a field day with this!"

Speaking of denial, I've been avoiding thinking about how there are only a few episodes of Ouran left, but I too must come to terms, it seems. Much as I love Haruhi/Tamaki, I have a sneaking suspicion that Haruhi won't be paired off with any of them at the end, a la Furuba. Which on one hand is okay, I guess, 'cause then it'll be open ended (for all the fanfic minions), but on the other hand, it'll soooo not be okay, because I WANT TAMAKI /HARUHI, DAMMIT! **ahem** Yes, that's my logic-filled rationale right there, folks.

I also want to say that a main character is hardly ever my favorite, so I don't know what the deal is with Tamaki. Maybe it's because he's sweet and really does mean well. Maybe it's because he's surprisingly insightful on occasion. And maybe it's because his eyes are a perfect shade of ultramarine and his voice has the power to melt a girl's clothes off -- I just don't know. ;3

At this point, I'm torn between really wanting to see the next episode, and really NOT wanting to see the next episode, because each one is a step closer to the end! ;_;

I wish Tamaki would get his act together~ What happened to the "charismatic" Tamaki that helped Haruhi fish her wallet out? Still, I really want TamakixHaruhi by the end of the series. Tamaki's an absolutely fantastic guy; makes me wish guys were that nice in real life...

So we're really thinking Mori is interested in Haruhi?

Really?

I mean... how would that even play out? I don't see how that could happen and at the same time anything else be solved... The only way to do this properly is to let Tamaki end up with her. Hear me out..

Mori will always have Hani, Hikaru will always have Kaoru (god if Hikaru and Haruhi ended up together, and if Kaoru couldn't take it well, I would... be so, so full of hate for this anime)... Tamaki... man, look, really, it's the only thing that makes sense to me.

For Hani to lose Mori or for Kaoru to lose Hikaru to this girl that's just recently come into their lives... that's horrible to me. I mean, just personally. It really hurts my heart. And so in faith that the animators aren't out to hurt my heart...

No one loses anybody, Tamaki gains Haruhi, yaaaaay everybody's still pretty much happy. Yes? Tell me nothing if not yes.

That wasn't the point of my commenting here, tho, actually...

Point was to ask...

Okay, so, really, we really think Mori is interested in Haruhi? How come?

I don't understand Japanese or read the manga, so.. I just wouldn't know why. Help?

hmm.. I can't wait to see this episode, I've been waiting for the raw to come up, but I can't find it "Buhuuu" :'(.. The episode sounds great though..
I find the comment about "Haruhi shouldn't fall in love with anybody" quite interresting actully. Since everybody is so siked to see who she will end up with, i'm sure that that would be just hilarious, heh. No sorry, didn't mean that. ;D
But I'm pretty sure that they will make sure that Haruhi ends up with Tamaki, Due to the fact that they both are unaware of their feelings. And really, the series is more foused on them, then anybody.
My personal favourite couple would probably be Hikaru-Haruhi, Even though Kyouya is my favourite.
I personaly think that Renge i awesome, sure she is anoying, but I like how she spises things up.
Heeh..

MoriXHaruhi are just one of the possible pairings that are available but it doesn't change the fact that it was a persons "opinion" but yeah... More people that root for MoriXHaruhi = they might end up [fanservice]. It's not possible if the anime ends in episode 26(?) though.
[sorry if what I wrote doesn't answer your question :×)

@}--$--- Peace~

I agree, Renge is awesome-!

Heidern--

Oh, well, I guess I need to clarify...

Summary gave me the impression that Mori has officially vested an interest in Haruhi [as in something actually happened in the show and maybe I just toally missed it], but I didn't see how, so I just wanted.. well, clarification.

But if it's really just one person's interpretation then, you know... never mind =)

I dont know if any of you watch the Lunar fansubbed version of this, but in those subs at the end, Honey says something like:

*SPOILER STARTS*

"So the problem is Kao-chan and Kyo-chan, right? I think one of them is unconscious of his feelings as well"

*SPOILER ENDS*

...is he insinuating something there or is it just my Kyoya fangirl imagination taking over?

Ultimately though, I don't think Haruhi should end up with anyone - I've always liked the carefree side of her and I dont want her to get tied down in a romantic relationship - actually I cant really imagine her being 'in love' with anyone as most of the time she is so oblivious!

wait all those spoilers about tamaki what book is that in?

I've also seen Lunar's subbed version of this... Based from the last scene, does that mean all the guys in the host club have feelings for Haruhi except for Honey and Mori?

September 16, 2006 | Fawkes wrote:

I honestly thought that Host Club might try to get away with a Furuba ending. But now that I look at this episode...Maybe Tamaki is realizing something? n__n I doubt they can change enough to make a definite coupling within two episodes. (Assuming that the next one is going to be completely about Kyouya and Tamaki)

this might be a litte late to comment (okay.. maybe 2 years late)

but i really do wish that hikaru and haruhi would end up together, even if its obvious that haruhi'll end up with tamaki

Haha... Morgan's comment about everyone being satisfied if the only person to gain Haruhi is Tamaki is hilarious but so true! I think theres something so indearing but sad about Tamaki's willingness to keep the family together against all costs, so much that he doesn't even realise his own feelings for Haruhi.... Tamaki's personality alone is enough for me to feel satisfied with Haruhi ending up with him because Haruhi is sort of dense at times too....they compliment eachother.... Plus...looking at recent chapters... Haruhi is becoming less of a stranger to her feelings regarding Tamaki.... (but then again there are ALWAYS twists! mangakas have a way with BLOWING US AWAY at times...so I'm not even gonna try and defend anything just yet...haaa) haha and to add onto Morgan's comment...if Mori gets Huni, and Kaoru gets Hikari, and Tamaki gets Haruhi, Kyouya will end up with....who? ...his money? O_O ha.
