I'm sorry for the late entry but the file that I found was unusually large so it took a while for me to download it. Anyway, I'm glad to see this episode seperated into a two-parter at the very least. At first I thought BONES will condense all 3 chapters of the manga into one episode story but thankfully that is not the case here. Overall, this is a good compromise because the first part pretty much takes care the introductory part of the arc, while the second one will deal with the date part of the story. Speaking of the story, I just saw the cover for volume 8 of the manga and can't be happier when I realise that it's Haruhi and Mori dressed up in a world war 2 era Japanese costume. I kind of wish that there will be some kind of side story where Haruhi and Mori are playing a role with these costumes.

The twins are awaken in the morning by the tone of their mobile phone. Upon picking up the phone, they realise that the caller is none other than Tamaki, who is panicking because Haruhi has gone missing. Apparently she has not been answering her phone and neither has her father. Tamaki immediately assumes that maybe Haruhi can't pay her rent and therefore has to run away. The twins, however, tell Tamaki if he has tried her mobile phone. Tamaki is surprised to hear this since he didn't know Haruhi even had one. He is even more surprised when Kyouya tells him to cut his drama because Haruhi is actually in Karuizawa. Haruhi then narrates that she got a job at a Pensione (lodging) during summer holiday. She feels a bit guilty for not telling everyone from the Host Club but she's happy to stay here. All of a sudden, however, Tamaki appears in a chopter above her. Haruhi realises that her summer vacation is going to be a bad one.
The owner of the Pensione is a man dressing up as a woman called Misuzu. According to Kyouya, she is actually a friend of Ranka-san. Tamaki immediately asks Kyouya how he knows about this. Misuzu then explains that because Haruhi’s father is travelling, he has left Haruhi in Misuzu's care. Later on the group realises that this job is the reason why Haruhi refused their private invitation to go on vacation. Haruhi tells them that she doesn't have passport but Kyouya offered to take her to his resort. Tamaki is pissed off with everyone because everyone wants to take Haruhi on their own individual vacation while he was thinking of a group vacation. Tamaki also finally clued in to the fact that Haruhi does have mobile phone courtesy of the twins. It's only limited to 'Friends' and Tamaki is listed as 'Senpai'. Tamaki thinks that he should be listed as 'Friends' as well but Haruhi disagrees. She also wants everyone to go back home already.
Poor Haruhi, however, freezes on the spot when Kyouya blackmails her with student rule number 19, which states that students are not allowed to do part time job. Armed with this knowledge, Kyouya and the others basically forced Haruhi to allow them to stay in the place. Tamaki suggests that they'll also be staying at the Pensione as VIP. His imagination then goes overdrive and plays out a situation where he gets to seduce Haruhi when she brings breakfast to his room. Much to everyone's disappointment, Misuzu only has one room left. Tamaki thinks that as a leader, he's entitled to the room but Hunny and the Twins start protesting his decision. The twins then come up with the idea of making this a game to see who decide to stay at the Inn. With this in mind, they set to compete by doing part time job in the Inn with Misuzu as the judge. Tamaki begins by fixing the fence while Hunny just sits around and eats cake. Misuzu is not impressed by either of them and decides to reward them -3.
Hunny's cuteness also does not work on her so the two of them are now in "orz" position outside looking depressed. The twins, on the other hand, gets +10 freshness point for being able to greet the customer properly and so does Mori who agrees to help her to fix a table. Haruhi is confused as to what Misuzu means by 'freshness' so she asks Haruhi what customers who come to Karuizawa are looking for. Haruhi thinks it's the quietness. Misuzu tells her that is not the only thing. They're here for the fresh air, fresh scenery, and fresh boys. Haruhi thinks that Misuzu reminds her of Renge and feels that the situation now feels just like in the Host Club. Haruhi, however, is surprised to see Kyouya not participating in the game. Because of this he tells her that he has no interest in doing such thing. He just want to watch everyone then goes back to his vacation home. Kyouya also tells Haruhi that the truth is every Host Club members has a vacation home near the area.
Kyouya then asks Haruhi who she thinks will win. When Haruhi claims that she has no idea, Kyouya tells her that it's easy to see. He thinks Hunny is not as refreshing as he is cute, while Tamaki is too over-eager. The default winner are the twins but Kyouya thinks Mori has a chance because he is earning 20 points for cutting woods shirtless. However, Kyouya thinks that Mori will refuse to stay if Hunny loses. The twins confidently think that they will be the winner. Haruhi reminds them that the room is a single room but the twins are not worried since they can just get another bed from their vacation home or sleep in the same bed. Haruhi is surprised to hear this and tells the two that it seems they are always together. The twins simply shrug this off and tells her that they've always been together since they were born and they had no friends back then. Hikaru, however, tells Haruhi that she can stay with them if she wants. Haruhi, of course, refuses.
Kyoya tells the twin that the game is not over and he has ideas to make it more interesting. Meanwhile, Tamaki is still not doing any better and keeps getting -3 reduction. The twins, on the other hand, continue to excite the customers much to Tamaki's disappointment. Kyouya decides to tell Tamaki that there is one thing that he can do and that is playing the Piano. True enough, Tamaki plays splendid Piano, and his ability dazzles current and potential customers. In order to hear his music, however, some girls decide to open a window and accidentally hits a flower vase, causing to fall and almost hit Haruhi's head. To save Haruhi, Kaoru shields her with his own body but the attempt causes a major gash on his face. Hikaru suddenly appears looking worried for Kaoru and upon seeing their brotherly love, Misuzu declares the twin as the winner. Later on, however, Haruhi realises that the whole thing was just an act to win the prize.
The twins refuse to admit it but once they are in their room, Hikaru's hand is trembling so Kaoru assures him that he's okay and besides they didn't have to use the brotherly quarrel strategy. The next morning, however, Kaoru is a bit pissed off because Hikaru pushes him off the bed while sleeping. They also tell Haruhi that they want some expensive breakfast that is not served at the Inn. Thankfully Tamaki comes to the rescue and offers Karuizawa breakfast. Haruhi reveals that Tamaki came early in the morning and received various informations from Misuzu. Tamaki has even created his own vacation guidebook filled with variety of rules. The twins is surprised with rule number 5, which states that they must wake up at 6AM. They wonder if Tamaki managed to make Kyouya and Hunny to do this. Tamaki immediately recoils in terror when he remembers the Eyes of the Demon King (Kyouya) and the Eyes of a Monster (Hunny) during his attempt to wake the two up. The episode then ends with Haruhi recognising a grocery delivery boy as someone called Arai.
Impression:
Kyouya's thinly veiled threat towards Haruhi in this episode made me realise that I'm glad I never went to schools and universities that prohibit their students from getting part-time jobs. I can understand this rule if that student is on scholarship and has to obtain the best grade possible. But if the student is not on any scholarship and needs the extra dollars from part-time job, it must be annoying not being able to do so. I have a friend who studies at a well-known University and I was surprised when he first told me that his university does not allow him to work part time. I realise that university time can be rather tough but I also went through a university while working part-time. It's perfectly achievable and I'm actually quite a slacker as well. Because of this I wonder if there is anyone who has been to a school or university that does not allow its students to work. And whether you do or do not, do you think not having part time jobs allow you to concetrate better in your study?
Anyway, back to the actual show itself, I was surprised to see the twins sleeping on the same bed. I imagine their fangirls will faint if they know this fact. Tamaki's attempt at fence fixing was also hilarious to me because he's clearly out of his element. It seems out of the rich boys, only Mori knows how to do manual labour, which is a bit disturbing because these guys will be completely useless when they don't have their maids or their butlers. Having said that, Tamaki seems to be willing to learn and didn't do too badly when he sets his mind on something. In addition to that, I like the part where Haruhi looks depressed after Kyouya blackmails her with the student rules. Tamaki's over-excited imagination also never fails to entertain. Speaking of Tamaki, he played a killer Piano which makes me regret that I always skip my Piano lesson when I was a kid. But back then I thought it was a bothersome thing to do and I hate having to learn something that I don't like.
Preview:

Next week's episode is the continuation of this week's episode. Hikaru and Haruhi are out on some kind of a date.
Vive the brotherly love!
Gah, Mori has the same exact expression everytime, but it's a good way to save money on the animation.
Nice review. At least there's a lot of humor still left to entertain.
Even with part-time jobs, it won't get in the way when it comes to concentration. Sure we'll lose a bit of it but not that much. It all depends on the willpower.
Though it can really be tiring.
I think that the rule of not working, it´s for people that are studying with financial aid, at least in my country (spain) it´s always like that, but people which is paying it`s own studies, can have a part time job.
Mori shirtless..... wow
The college I attended required me to work part time as part of my financial aid package. However, freshmen were limited to certain hours of work a week so that their schoolwork wouldn't suffer.
i havent seen this episode but..i just cant wait for it and the next episodeee~~~!!! XDDD
yey to Hikaru/Haruhi~! although im with Tamaki n Haruhi.. hohoho.. (^0^)/
and thx for the episode sumaries~! i just cant wait for it to be subbed!! XD
This seriously looks like a great episode. But WHAT is with Haruhi's hairstyle in the next ep preview, I can't stand it! Strangely it reminds me a lot of Himawari from XXXHolic, which is something I don't awnt to be reminded of.
But I'm dying to see this and the next ep now anyway. orz Fangirl overdrive kicking in...
Its really nice to see these rich kids get pwned - especially Honey! I'm so happy to see him totally unsuccessful in seducing people. Ha.
Scholarship students in my school (the equivalent of a high school in the US in terms of age range, I think) usually live in the dorms and don't do part-time work... usually because a. many are foreign and getting work is not so easy, and b. most of them are much more content holing themselves up in their rooms and studying whenever they have free time. Sad people.
But I think in most schools here, it's against the rules to do part-time work - during the school terms. For holidays they actually encourage you to go find part-time work; some schools arrange paid attachment/internship deals for students. The scholarship students were never interested though. :\
Oh, and all those flashing eyes really makes me think of Morita. Which is a good thing.
I can't wait to see next week's episode, its one of my favorites in the manga! I love Hikaru! I am all for a HaruhixHikaru pairing here! Although, I really really like Tamaki, he's so cute and dense!
How many episodes of OHSHC will be released/aired?
sorry for my bad grammar T_T (though I might wrote it correct :P)
How many episodes of OHSHC will be released/aired?
26 episodes, IIRC.
I almost forgot to say that summer vacation is so over-rated in anime. The truth is, summer in Japan is extremely hot. It's impossible to walk around for 5 minutes or longer outside without sweating. I never understand why anime always makes it looks like it's glorious time to be had.
I am not sure about the university I went to but I have a few classmates who took part time jobs. So I guess it is just fine. What reason does the school have to prohibit students from getting part time jobs? As long as it is not the reason for the student to lose concentration in studies, then I don't think it is a problem.
Anyway, thank you so much for the reviews. I can't watch the episodes right away so in this way even if I am spoiling myself, I get to have my dose of Ouran fun every week.
I was only able to watch until episode 8 and I didn't really bother distinguishing Kaoru from Hikaru. But now I am curious as to how I may know which is which? My friend mentioned something about their hair to know it but I forgot. Thanks to whoever may answer.
And another thing...is the girl in the preview caps, Haruhi? She is so pretty...^_^. Sorry for asking so many questions.
omg. i so cannt wait for the nxt episode! Hikaru x Haruhi~!! ehehhe! thnx for the review !! although im a Tamaki x Haruhi~ fan ,i still wanna see the next episode!!!!!! Haruhi luks pwetti with the new hair do..!!XD!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my God... Mori in shirtless mode is so... *goes fanboy mode*
Anyways, I would like to see the next episode cause it deals with Haruri with some of the Host Club member on a date. But I'm more of a MoriXHaruhi fan... But Mori is still mine...
"Hikaru, however, tells Haruhi that she can stay with them if she wants. Haruhi, of course, refuses."
I'm really curious about this. In the manga, it's Kaoru who asks Haruhi, and they deliberately changed it in the anime. ? Not that I know why it's specifically Kaoru in the manga, either, but still.
So many pairings with obvious potential. I hope Tamaki, Kaoru, and Mori get their chance sooner or later. Still it looks like next episode marks a schism between the twins... Also, how the heck did Haruhi tie her hair in such long pigtails? Did Hikaru give her a wig or something?
When I saw the preview screencap for this episode, I thought Misuzu was Renge wearing a cheap plastic mask O_o...
The one with the hair to the left side of the screen is Kaoru, the other one is Hikaru. Also, the attacker in their brotherly love scenes is always Hikaru
And, Yeap, it's Haruhi with hair extensions :3
Waaa, I already wanna see the next ep, I'm a HikaruxHaruhi supporter
What I like to know more about is the elephant head sprouting a ribbon that is placed in one of the twins', um, lap. What's with that?
"And whether you do or do not, do you think not having part time jobs allow you to concetrate better in your study?"
It depends on the person. Some say having a part-time job makes them value their time more. I, however, am just the opposite. Even without a job, I usually find myself too tired to do homework at the end of the day.
Can't wait for the date episode! Suzu Ken love.
i really enjoy watching the series but...i have a complaint, and it's the fact that till now the episodes continue being very autoconclusive, i wanna know more about everyone, their pasts, the reason of their behaviors, cause seeing the way they are right now, it's easier to predict how are they going to react in a funny situation(and since everything that happens it's funny), however, next episode looks funny, and a little weird cause i'm not with hikaruxharuhi(and haruhi's hairstyle it's weird too, i agree with wao, really looks like himawari's hairstyle) , but anyway, we don't know what could happen
>> I'm really curious about this. In the manga, it's Kaoru who asks Haruhi, and they deliberately changed it in the anime. ? Not that I know why it's specifically Kaoru in the manga, either, but still.
Kylara, since Hikaru is the one who likes Haruhi, I think the change is appropriate. I thought it's strange that Kaoru is the one who asks Haruhi in the manga when he has no interest in Haruhi romantic-wise
What I'm very curious about is who the heck is Arai-grocer boy? I do not read the manga so I have no idea if this character has any significance in Haruhi's life that might threaten "cough-cough" the male hosts' significance in her life...(imagnation is running overdrive)
What I like to know more about is the elephant head sprouting a ribbon that is placed in one of the twins', um, lap. What's with that?
I think that is something that you have to see yourself. It's quite a hilarious joke on the part of the twins. :D
Kaoru asks Haruhi out for a specific reason...if you read the manga he later fakes that he's sick and asks Hikiru to take her out instead of him. He knows Hikaru likes Haruhi and also Hikaru had been in a foul mood since that Arai guy from Haruhi's past showed up. So to get Hikaru out of his protective shell he decides to set them up :)
I must say, that i really dont like Haruhi. SOOO annoying...
I'm still confused though with Kaoru's standing with there Haruhi interest. Everytime something comes up involving Haruhi possibly becoming "taken," Kaoru's also in the mix with the *shock* expression with Hikaru and Tamaki. Maybe it's because Tamaki pulls both twins in with his shock? Or does Kaoru have interest as well?
Beautiful review, btw.
:/ I don't think Kaoru is interested in Haruhi, Ahiko. But does he mind the idea of Haruhi being there? I never got that impression; I think he wants her there in "their world", so to speak, just not in entirely the same manner that Hikaru does (which of course, Hikaru doesn't realize).
That and the whole Host Club is kind of possessive of Haruhi.
I just want to say Thank you so much for all this wonderful stuff you have given us and I love you, love you, love you so much for sharing!!!
ummm i dont understand why many girl hates or dislike Haruhi, i think Haruhi is amazing! .__. and just think about it, the boys of the host club have all the girls, except one : Haruhi, umm so Haruhi is great i love her xD!
I love Haruhi! She's pretty much the *only* anime girl that I like! She doesn't speak with an annoyingly high-pitched voice and she doesn't blush at the drop of a hat (and handles the guys in the club really well - how cool is that?). She doesn't wear gravity- and logic-defying short skirts either. :)
Hey, hey... In one moment... Is there Edward Elric doll on Preview? ;> See it! :D
well, Harui's great so I don't see why the other ppl hate her (is it b/c she doesn't caree about the hotties around her or what?) anyways what I actually wanted to make clear was the many times Hikaru has been like WHAT?! about Harui (for ex ep 5 whenb they are fighting.... you gootta lok at his face when he was accused of liking Harui; of in the same ep when Kaoru notices that his brother was loking at her at the end for more time and makes the remark of a new intruder... and so on...)
aside from that the shoot of Kyoya as the demon King and Honey as the monster were Hilarious and MR. ELEPHANT god at the scene I yelled INUKAMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^^
Can somebody tell me where to download this episode? :( I can't seem to find one.
oh kami-sama!!!this episode is so nice!!! cant wait for the next one...i really think that hikaru is a suuuuper caring n perfect brother..i love him!oh,btw, can anybody tell me why haruhi's hair became....much longer in the next episode?and when did haruhi began to dress REALLY like a super feminine and gentle girl?
This anime is so hilarious! This episode certainly follows suit.
Why do people think Kaoru doesn't have a romantic interest in haruhi? Maybe I could see that as possible in the anime, but in the manga there's lots of situations that allude to the possibility. Even at this point in the manga, after hikaru gets mad about arai-kun, hikaru accuses kaoru of being annoyed by arai as well. Kaoru says he just "has better control of his feelings" than hikaru does. I think kaoru's interest in haruhi is kind of downplayed right now, but i think he likes her too. maybe he'll get his moment with her eventually.
OMG! Thank u soooooooo much =^.^= I was scared that i wouldn't be able to find a web site like this. I can't wait to see the next episode! But i dont like Haruhi's hair... but i so want her to end up with Hikaru
Its one of my favorit couples. but i do like them the best, I cant wait for the next episod, so post it soon, ok?
Love the easter egg in the ep screenshots!
The girl showing up in the next episode looks a bit like that mysterious girl in xxxHOLIC - maybe it's just the hairstyle.
is there any way this can be subbed or something please. ^_^
Mori-kun was so HOT during this epsiode. I loved it!
I love the scenes with Kaoru and Hikaru! *enters fanboy mode* (!) It's awesome they put some more personal stuff they experience together, it really shows that its not just for fangirls they act that way =) Mori-senpai is smexy too, and "refreshing" lol ^^
For people asking about where to get the subbed episodes, either search on BitTorrent networks (Anime Suki, isoHunt, etc.) or get it directly from the fansubbers:
Lunar Anime website (registration required.)
Their bittorrent tracker: a.scarywater.net
Ja ne~
Armageddon, where did you get that Lunar site? I always thought that this was their main site.
Anyway, hilarious episode. I'm a bit too excited to watch episode 16. I usually download my anime raw if I really want to watch it right away, but Ouran's antics have too complicated language for me to understand without subs -__-.
~ Noodlehead
@Noodlehead
Its actually the "Lunar Archive" website. I ended up on that site from a link from one of their IRC channel's bots (#lunaranime on Rizon).
Whats good about it is that is that they offer direct HTTP download links and it tends to be faster and more stable than the BitTorrent network, but you get only 5 downloads per month, apparently.
Small correction... its 5 downloads per day, not month ^^;
who do u think will end up with haruhi?
i luv haru in the apron (so cute >_< !!!!)
Where I can watch without legend??
im all for morixharuhi it would be a lot more interesting to see mori get close to and protect someone other then honey ^_^
i think that your web site is pretty cool. and i think that all of the boys likes haruhi because shes not only different from all of the other girl and not that she knows every one really well but that they know that they cant hve her as a lover.
This episode revolves around the plot of Haruhi having gone to work part time at a pensione during the summer vacation.
i have a question....are these pictures copyrighted?
Long live Hikaru/Haruhi! =)
*dies of girlish laughter*
