Oku Hanako - Garnet (30MB, for PSP/Quicktime)
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo - Full Trailer
This is basically the main theme for the upcoming animated feature film, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The girl who leapt through time). I'm actually a lot more interested in this film more than I am of the upcoming Ghibi's feature, Gedo Senki. The story will be an adaptation of a novel of the same name. It is also currently serialised in Shounen Ace as a manga drawn by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Evangelion's main character designer. Sadamoto is also responsible for the movie's character design and on a quick glance, the characters do look like re-iteration of his previous work on Shinji, Kaoru, and Touji. The song is sung by a Oku Hanako, a singer whom unfortunately I'm not familiar with. I personally like this song alot although unfortunately the PV is not that exciting to watch. It's just a shot of the singer walking around a seemingly quiet city. This would have surprised me if I didn't know that in Tokyo, the city does look like that around 4 in the morning.

Kana/Kanji version

Apprently, the director of Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo used to be in Ghibli but got kicked out of the director position while working on Howl's castle due to some unfair reason (I heard it had to do with family relationship between the upper staffs or something). Now its interesting that he is making a movie that will air about the same time as Gedo Senki. ^__^ its like a showdown. I, personally, would prefer Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo over Gedo Senki.
If that's true I feel sorry for that director. It's not nice getting kicked out for that kind of reason. You know, I want to be excited about Gedo Senki but for some reason I can't. The trailer didn't look interesting enough and I was quite disappointed with How's Moving Castle. Maybe I should read the original book first. On the other hand, I've read a few chapters or so of Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo in Shounen Ace and really like the storyline. So I hope the movie will be similar to the manga.
Yeah, Mamoru Hosoda (the director) was supposed to be the director of Howl's Moving Castle but I think he got kicked out as he couldn't get much done - which isn't surprising considering that he apparently got stuck for the project and had to entirely recruit his own people rather than being provided some staff from the studio.
After that he made the 6th One Piece movie, Omatsuri Danshaku to Himitsu Shima (something like that) which actually did a lot with the original material, and, putting the story aside (since he didn't have much choice), it's really very amazing. He's also done two of the original Digimon movies (not the mangled shit they showed in the States), and bits of Utena as well as Takashi Murakami's ad for Louis Vuitton, "Superflat Monogram".
I think the irony that Tokikake is screening at the same time as Gedo Senki is stinging. One shows where Ghibli could have gone if they chose him - the other shows where they decided to stick to, milking the Miyazaki name and designs...
If what I hear is correct and Tokikake's getting better reviews than Gedo Senki... it better be a slap in the face to Producer Suzuki!
This is the first I'm hearing of this movie, added it to my watchlist, thanks for the heads up!
The only real reason I'm interested in Gedo Senki at the moment is because of the wonderful source material, the Earthsea series.
Watched the full trailer and full of interest in this movie now . I just love the char design , simple yet bright , and blue is always welcomed :) .
This title was adapted into TV drama/movies in 1972, 1983, 1985, 1994, 1997, 2002.
Director Nobuhiko Obayashi's 1983 movie and leading actress Tomoyo Harada's title song was a big hit.
I hadn't heard anything about this movie, but after seeing the trailer I'm really looking forward to it. I've always liked Sadamoto Yoshiyuki's design work, and the slice-of-life feel of the movie is right up my alley :).
i watched it today! sugoi! it's nice, i love it. the song as well. people please watch it. thought it's about two hours but that's not enough for the story! :D
Thanks for the music video.
I reallly enjoyed the movie and I'd like to check out the novel someday to find out about Makoto's aunt. ^__^
I guess I should go and watch Gedo Senki now just for comparisons...
whoaa, don't know anything behind the scene.
i just watch the movie recently and i love the song. still searching the mp3 if somebody sell it or upload it for free, hehe..
