As some of you probably noticed, the site was down for a couple of hours yesterday because my web host had network failure problem. This is just a string of many problems I've experienced with this host and I'm starting to wonder if I should move to a better host. Does anyone has any recommendation for a good host that offers around 500GB bandwidth?
Anyway, my web host told me that they're going to have a complete shut-down on Monday, so in case something like that happens again, I've created an emergency site. Yeah, I know it's very basic but it is enough to let you know if there is any problem with this site and to probably post little newsbits.
On the positive side, I decided to use the downtime to create a new banner for the site. I was actually thinking of rotating this new one with the old banner (see above) but I'm worried that it'll make the page loading even longer. If you don't know, the image shows Light and L from the upcoming Death Note anime.
Anime News
Depapepe official site reveals the CD cover for their new, Honey and Clover single, Night and Day. The single will be out on the 11th of October this year.
Gainax's website now has some further details on the Rebuild of Evangelion films. It confirms that the first film will be released in early Summer 2007. The website also mentions that the second film will be released in Spring 2008 and the last two will be released in early Summer 2008. As a side note, Hideaki Anno apparently wants to call the previous versions of Evangelion series "The Old Century Edition".
Variety now has a review of Mushishi live action starring Joe Odagiri. It sounds pretty good although it's also a bit different from the anime version. Please be aware that the above review contains some spoilers.

I will have to modify the template as well as the graphic (so that it'll include the text). That's why I said it'll be a bit heavier if I am going to do something like that.

Yeah, I had to tweak the image a little bit. When I scanned the images, it had a lot of scanner dots on it so I had to smooth it out a little bit. The blue tinges were already on Raito though.

What's your current hosting type? If you are in a shared server (or virtual hosting), have you thought about switching to a dedicated server?
With such an amount of bandwidth consumption, maybe you should look into a cheap server (like a Celeron) with 750Gb-1Tb of bandwidth. It'll be just for yourself, but you'll have to do all the dirty work, like patching and installing Apache, MySQL etc.

Yeah, I will review Death Note. Not sure yet about Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori but I'll put it into a consideration.

It's shared host. Unfortunately I'm not a programmer so I don't know anything about SQL and Apache. That's why I've been using shared host since I'm not knowledgable enough to go on a dedicated server.

More than anything, I'd suggest a host with excellent support. My site was having problems for nearly two weeks (it's been down almost every evening), and I finally e-mailed them about it. Within three minutes, they responded to my support ticket and took care of the problem in less than ten minutes.
On another note, I'm looking forward to reading your Death Note entries. :)
I am not sure about the page loading time, coming all the way from China, I seldom experience slowness in memento.
Powweb sounds like a second choice, offers around 400GB & extra bandwidth can be bought for a reasonably cheap price. The only down-side of it is that China Blocked Them :(

I've been thinking of leaving DH as well, Garten, but I want to wait and see if tomorrow's network upgrades make a difference. I have some other problems with DH beyond just the performance issues, but migrating to a new host is a pain in the ass, so I'd rather not go through the trouble unless I absolutely have to. DH is a big host with a lot of customers (I've been with them for 5 years), so I would expect them to get their act together at some point.
That said, I looked at Bluehost... it seems they've been having some issues similar to DH as of late. So, I scratched them from my list. No point in jumping from one sinking ship to another. I've just about settled on Media Temple as an alternative... as a 9rules member, I get a nice discount. The only drag is that they don't offer Fantastico, so setting up a Wordpress install is a bit more involved compared to DH. Tinkering under the hood doesn't excite me as much as it used to.
I use Site5.com and they're pretty good. I used to host with totalchoicehosting.com and they're good, too, they just don't host Ruby on Rails so I went to site5. Customer Service is excellent at Site5. 43folders.com (a productivity site that gets a lot of traffic) uses and recommends A2 http://www.a2hosting.com/web_hosting.php

Only when the image in question needs it. And I don't recommend this unless you know what you're doing. There are cases where the images end up looking worse because someone don't know how to tweak it properly. Different series/images require different treatment.

Yeah, that's the unfortunate literal translation of Mushishi. Maybe they think people outside Japan will have difficulty saying "Mushishi"?

Kudou Haruka (H&C, Noein) will voice Yagami Saya, sister of Light. She most probably plays more minor role in this anime.

Don't worry, if I ever get the time to mobilise my plan to upgrade the site to Wordpress, then you'll probably see Rin again. Or maybe I'll change the banner every week in case I get bored.

Don't worry, I've fixed it. I don't think the problem is with your Firefox though. It's just that Movable Type doesn't automatically fill in the details of each poster unlike Wordpress blogs. Your info is stored in your cache, but you have to still type in 1-2 word of your name and then your cache will fill in the rest. That's why I've been wanting to switch to Wordpress.
I have tickets to go see Mushishi this Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival. I really can't wait to see it. Unfortunately, i don't think Katsuhiro Otomo will be there. :'(
I like the new banner! Getting a php script to rotate banners in Wordpress is pretty simple, so that will be one perk of a switch to WP. I've been very happy with WP so far, and a lot of the anime bloggers use it, so support shouldn't be too hard to find.
As for moving hosts, best of luck, because it is such a pain to switch hosts! I'll echo Maya in saying that make sure you get good support. As for 500 Gig bandwidth... wow.
With the talk of Death note and all, I question the casting of the anime series...don't get me wrong...I like Yamaguchi Kappei & Hirano Aya.....but him as L and her as Misa? I guess it's going to be somewhat of an adjustment....but it's going to be awhile since both of them are still seiyuuing in Eyeshield 21.
