There's another interesting development here as Johan's plan for Karl is finally revealed. I'm also surprised to see some background information given to Richard, a side-character that was seemingly unimportant when he was first introduced. In this episode, however, Richard is efficiently used as another example of a person dealing with 'the monster within'. Speaking of 'monster', I just realised that the ending theme for the series has been changing ever since the first episode. I've put together a side-by-side comparison out of interest, and the result looks like some sort of a tale involving a monster. From what I can see, there seems to be a monster that splits into two monsters then each one goes its own separate ways. I don't really understand what happens after that with the farmer turning into a monster himself. But it reminds me of the ways normal people can turn into 'monsters' as depicted by this series.

The episode itself begins with Richard talking to his ex-wife. Apparently he used to be an alcoholic but has now sobered up and wants the chance to see his daughter. But the truth is, Richard is still battling his addiction and can't seem to shake off his nightmarish past. As if that's bad not enough, he later finds out that his daughter doesn't want to see him. Elsewhere, Karl is seen confessing to Johan about his latest frustration with his real father, Schuwald. Johan advises him to tell Schuwald about his real identity but Karl rejects the idea on the grounds that he doesn't want Schuwald to think that he's a gold digger. So when his foster parents offer him the chance to be their legally adopted son, he accepts the offer. Karl, however, finds it hard to say goodbye to Schuwald and luckily, Schuwald finally knows that Karl is his own child thanks to Johan's intervention. The father and son are then reunited and to thank Johan, Schuwald decides to appoint him as his secretary.

Impression:

Well, it looks like Johan's true intention has finally comes to the fore. I guess by manipulating Farren to lie about his identity then reuniting Karl with his real father, he succeeded in selling himself as a trustworthy character to both father and son. Having said that, I still don't understand the purpose behind it and why he's so sure that Schuwald will give him that position. After all, there's always the possibility that Schuwald may not offer anything or at the most will just give him some money. Although Johan can probably claim that he can't take money that he doesn't earn and in the end, Schuwald will probably give him the job. Elsewhere, I feel sorry for Richard and his troubles. It's good to see his valiant effort to repress his inner 'monster' here. However, I wonder how long he'll be able to keep it up especially with the latest devastating news he received from his ex-wife. I also have not figure out his role in the entire scheme of this arc but judging from what happened thus far, things do not look good for him.

The current storyline is usually refered to by the reader of the manga as "Munich Arc". It is in the Munich Arc that they revealed what the end pictorial comes from. You don't have to wait too long for that.

Ah, thanks. I'm glad to hear that. I was afraid that the series won't even explain it at all.

Possible spoiler - but the ending theme comes from the (you got it right) story of a monster, and this particular story (my guess is that the last eps will have the last parts of the story) is absolutely CENTRAL to monster. If you like the anime, I HIGHLY recommend the manga. Read all 18vs in a 48 hour period between work, sleep, and food. The Munich Arc less Tenma centered, but it is one of the better ones IMO
