Well, Miyajima/Itsukushima Island was beautiful but I find out that I'm an internet addict. I was restless while I was there because the place where I stay didn't have internet connection. Well, now that I do, I already miss 3 episodes of Darker than Black. Oh well, let's just start with something simple like the latest MGS4 trailer. I think it's funny (even with the diarrhea joke) although I could do without Eva calling herself "Big Mama" again. You can download the trailer from Game Trailers if you want. I would like to know what Kojima was thinking when he came up with that final scene in the trailer.
The biggest news here in Japan, however, is about this 16 year old Kyoto girl who killed her father. It actually caused School Days to be postponed as a result of this incident since the series featured an ending not too different from this murder case. If that's not bad enough, someone from 2ch made a joke about how the events Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is similar to the murder case. D'oh! Of course the media found out about it and made a big case about it. Now Higurashi episode 12 has also been replaced by a documentary. I do love Japanese documentary though, especially where they travel to some far-off areas and eat local foods while pretending that everything is delicious.
I hope this whole killing incident is not heard by some parental body in the US. I shudder to think of the consequence.
Japanese people are stupid. The media is stupid. Free speech is stupid. 2chan is really stupid. Everything is stupid. Intelligence is stupid.
...nice boat.
...and I think that's actually a mod MG Ray rather than a Rex.

Aren't they all the same? J/K :P
Nice boat....hahaha......
The girl actually used an axe on her father's head (R*na...) and she apparently hoped to be a mangaka in the future....so all hell breaks loose
game looks great, any1 know when's it out on PC?
The media seems to be the same everywhere (sensationalist, stupid). Does Japan have a "Fox News" of there own?

Not that I know of. But then again I usually only watch TV when I eat dinner or when the TV is just a background noise while I blog. So I'm not really sure if FOX's slimy hands get there.
The killing incident makes me rather sad....I remember being 16, and not getting along with my parents. But now that I am older I'm glad I never did anything so drastic.
In during Nice Boats.
The murder is really stupid. It caused the woes of otaku everywhere who have anticipated greatly for one of the most unconventional harem anime endings ever. This is like the time I was late to class because some idiot committed suicide (RIP) at a SkyTrain station and delayed thousands of people from getting to work/school/etc..
In addition to Darker Than Black, are you going to continue to blog Higurashi? I haven't seen a post (relative to your schedule) for awhile now. And episode 12 was the second last episode of a very good arc. :(
You know, when I watched the new MGS4 trailer, I thought that creature was a wannabe troll thing from Harry Potter, but after seeing your screencap (and reading the caption), I now know its a monkey! Can't believe I didn't realize that! lol!
Grr! C'mon Kojima! Just announce MGS4 for Xbox 360 already! I'm too poor (and too much of a fanboy) to buy a PS3!
The worst thing about this murder is that it sets us back Otaku to the time when Otaku are considered weirdo by the majority of Japanese people. And we were just making a bit of progress on that front (ie. Anime is considered an important cultural commodity by the government).
All I can say is, it's the fault of the Japanese people that this guy had to die such a gruesome death. If people are not allowed to bear arms, not even knives, you have to improvise. However, the low quality of Japanese TV - anime is a clear exception to the rule - is well-known, so something like FOX news for Japanese would probably improve the quality ten-fold and that's the really sad thing. Also isn't it kind of pathetic, how people still think in terms of nations instead of just understand themselves as humans? People only show this weird sense of respect if it happens to their own breed. How many people die daily from murder, from exhaustion, in wars and they still show movies about war, murder and all kinds of cruel stuff for entertainment. When such stuff happens around their corner or is just on the news, they suddenly feel it's not right to use such stories for entertainment. Well, I guess it feels good to lie to yourself and consider yourself someone with higher morals. Pointing fingers at others is something we all liked since kindergarden. I just wonder why can't these morally superior not decide for themselves to not watch something but also have to decide for others?
MSN Japan news mentions that it was a 15 year old boy who took an axe to his father's head, and not a girl... I guess a girl doing that would have been scarier (^_^;;)
Thanks for all the awesome reviews and articles, Garten-san! It's always fun visiting your pages :)
Yikes! That boy is something completely different. I'm referring to this girl. The girl's incident was the one that caused anime cancellation.
WTF with sudden rise of axe murderers in Japan?
And pakxenon, I'm afraid I won't be able to finish Higurashi. Not when my schedule is all over the place like it is now.
Strange that non one's point out that Rena never used an axe
It was K1 =p
and lol at the trailer
and welcome back from you trip Garten.
WTF with sudden rise of axe murderers in Japan?
Yay!! so animes ARE working! Be it an axe or a hatchet, the "XXXX to the head" technique seems to be catching on (fill in XXXX with your weapon of choice)!!
Wonder when the "Body in a fridge" concealment method will be used next... Oh wait, it could ALREADY been in use, by a bunch of R*nas who probably did a waaay better job than R*na® did. Or the "body shashimi" method? Who knows, so much raw meat is consumed in the norm diet over there, so... I think the next step would be for me to bash my lecturer's head in with a bat with some missing person's name on the handle?
But seriously, I was really REALLY bummed out due to the lack of episode 12 this week. Was refreshing the torrent page from 5.30-9.57pm on Friday between 30 seconds and 3 minutes (this long only when I HAD to use the toilet). No animes, no manga, no nothing, except pure F5, all the way till 9.57 when I decided to give up.
Sigh
O_O...There were two incidences of axe-wielding teens?! That's kind of really disturbing... I'm not sure which is creepier, but both are just as bad as that case where a kid put another kid's head on a school fence (I think it was quite a while ago).
I don't think cancelling other anime shows (which may have been related to what happened) would have done very much... There are so many more other factors to take into consideration!
Thanks for the news article links, Garten :)
Upon browsing the Mainichi news website, I came across a few other articles about highschoolers.
Teenage girl suspected of fatally stabbing man with ice pick
High school boy arrested for hitting his grandma on head with hammer
...
Does this game some out for the 360 to?
