I feel a little bit bad for not posting much lately but I'll try to rectify that tomorrow night. I did, however, manage to update Kongetsu with a new post. In other note, I am really worried about my lack of interest in Anime. I actually went to Akihabara 2 days ago and I was stunned at my own lack of interest in buying any of the merchandise shown in various anime shops. The only thing that I want to buy right now is just this special DVD boxset of live action Nodame Cantabile. I feel a bit weirded out by this latest development because prior to this, I can't remember the time when I don't at least want to buy an anime-related magazine. Maybe it's the knowledge that I can get most of the things that I want in my country or at least get them cheaper online. I also don't feel obsessive enough to buy that Evangelion-branded coffee.
Don't worry, it's cyclical in many cases, and that killer series that will draw you back in may come as early as this fall. As for the NGE coffee, at some point, all of us feel consumer burn-out...
The sushi piece looks terrifying. Although I am a kind of guy who special-orders katsudon in the evening, so a lot of this elaborate eating scares me.
As for the merch, I never was big on it. Sure, I'd like to find a suitable wall scroll, but that's about it. It's all down to the question, what do we treasure about our anime?
You might have grown up, have not you?
Hey, it happens. The same has happened with me actually. People change and move on.
Relax, its all about timing. Its happen to me last month.
So what? I was never interested in 2nd or 3rd party anime products; no figures, no coffee mugs, no posters. anything. I DO however need a Keroro Gunso strap thing for my DS, but that's it.
That only means you're not a pedophile.
Don't worry, there isn't necessarily a correlation between anime interests and related merchandise buying. I felt the compulsion to buy something when I found a rare merchandise shop in canada, even though I wasn't that interested. So I bought the latest Newtype USA, only to feel stupid afterwards when I found out how out-of-date it was.
2007 certainly hasn't been that great a year for TV anime, espicially when you compare to 2006, no wonder your interests have been recessive lately, but the good shows will come back eventually so long as the industry doesn't go bankrupt, desho?
You can just update kongetsu then, if you're tired of anime {^_^}
Could it be that you are growing out of your cartoon phase? It's been known to happen. It did to me. Your anime kick won't go away completely, but you won't be watching nearly as much of it as you used to. There are, you know, other things worthy of your fascination, and there's nothing wrong with spreading the love.
I suppose many people go through a phase when they lack interest in their favourite past times. I say just give yourself a break and you should be hungry for more anime later.
I ll just say; watch "Princess Tutu". it's great
I'm liking "School days" quite a lot; even if wasn't so sure at the beginning.
Would love to get my hands on that DVD!!
Anyway, wait a while. Great anime may be on the way.
Don't worry Garten! I seriously doubt that you are losing interest in anime. There just haven't been any good shows on lately that have caught your eye. The same thing happened to me awhile ago and to my friend recently. She said that she wasn't interested in anime anymore at all. So I let her go on thinking she'd 'out-grown it'. Then I introduced her to Kiddy Grade and Blood+ and she fell head over heels with both. Now she's currently watching the live action Japanese version of Hana-Kimi that I suggested to her and she loves it!
So I don't think it's that you are losing interest, so much as waiting for another great show like Ouran High. About buying merchandise, I myself have almost never bought any anime related items over the years aside from the inuyasha movies and the Spirited Away movie, but that's it. So don't worry Garten! A lot of people know what you are going through! Cheer up! =)
WHAT, THERE'S NGE BRAND COFFEE NOW????
That's insane. As much as I like Evangelion, they have got to stop milking out as much profit as they can out of the series. It's like beating a dead horse.
WHAT, THERE'S NGE BRAND COFFEE NOW????
There's also Evangelion-branded curry and cookies. I wanted to take picture but I couldn't even muster the enthusiasm to do it.
dont worry about it garten. i hope u find inspiration soon. but its true there is a lack of the "wow" anime.
even now i havent seen any anime for 4 months - and thats a long time for me. i just waiting for the one. hehe
I was in Akiba earlier this year and also didn't want to buy anything...but I think that had sometime to do with my wife embarashing me by yelling... hey Jason! Here a good one for you, lots of nude young girls!
Some folks say you may be out growing anime but it could also be a bit of burn out. In anycase don't worry about it. I myself haven't been watching too much anime of late. For the few shows I am watching am very behind ( so much so i've decided to just let them finish there run then watch the anime in bulk later ^^;;)
comparing resent season showings to the last ( with shows like blood+, CG and Ouran) there not a lot to get excited about. In any case don't force yourself just step back and go with the flow.
Hopefully next season will come up with some better shows
peace :)

Happens to all of us at one point or another, though I don't think I've ever been quite keen on the merchandise facet of the anime industry. Here's hoping that one studio will push past the general standard of mediocrity and produce a good series within the next few seasons.
I'm tempted to recommend a few series that might pique your interest, but you've probably seen most/all of them.

Agreed, and when you compare 2006 to 2005 the same observation holds. Would be nice if there was a second season of Mushishi in the works, but perhaps that's hoping for too much.

Oh wow.
(Though the curry does sound tempting. Somewhat.)

I can imagine how that would be mortifying, even if only ~70% of any eavesdropping passersby would be able to understand it.
Honestly, there really arn't any good animes out there currently.
I guess there's no need to worry. some time ago I thought that I lost all interest in anime - and then came Dennou Coil around... ;-)
I have purposal it may help you choose an anime that you dont know any info about it and its recommended by alot of people and choose a short one like OVA and if you still having fun, then dont worry its alittle phase you are going thru, it did happen to me once ^^.
By the way I dont know anything about why dont you make (about me section) coz I have alot of question Do you live in Japan?student there?work there?travel alot to it?
