Haruhi Surveillance Video

Instead of announcement of the airing date, the official site released a viral video showing a live-action Haruhi re-enacting the Tanabata story. There's nothing wrong with the viral video but I was personally hoping for something more and it feels slightly disappointing that all we got is just a viral video. In the end, we still have no idea when the second season will start. For those who want to see the video, Nico Douga has it for download. Joining is not difficult, but unless you have premium account, your access is limited between 2AM to 7PM (Japan time). There's also a copy at Tokyo Toshokan. Another option is watching the streaming video that pKjd posted on his site, Moetron. Personally, I'd recommend watching the streaming first to see if you want to download it or not. I got bored watching halfway through the video and fast forwarded right through the end to see if there's any kind of announcement. There isn't.

I think it's a clever way to promote the second season. Knowing Haruhi fans, they'll probably talk about this till the cows come home...or until the second season arrives.

Thanks for the links. I'v been itching to watch it again since I caught it live last night. But you're right - we still don't have any firm statement saying that there will be a second season. Whether they're just laying the groundwork for an actual announcement or this was simply some kind of Tanabata special and nothing more remains to be seen.

This is so clever, & relies partly on the fact that there's 9 novels to speculate on which bits will or won't be in the anime & if so why not .....

I find the discussions boring but the phenomenon amazing.

Could have been shorter to start with. 20+ minutes of almost silent cctv footage is pretty much the antonym of 20+ mins of Episode 00 (which im sure we will all remember 4 the rest of our life xD)

Also it relies heavily on the viewer's knowledge of the light novel series. Those who have read or heard about vol 1-4 would know from the viral video that the Tanabata event +the Disappearance arc will be covered, which should be foregone knowledge for them anyway since Disappearance was the next major arc in line. With no official airing date, most fans will be disappointed.

Anyway, points to Kyoani for innovation yet again, and to me it doesn't matter if the viral video is bad. I mean, does Haruhi really need any advertising? The only way to boost her popularity even further now is to publish the Haruhist Bible, deshou?

Compared to the main arc, im more interested in the "side episodes", Endless August anyone?
