Haibane Renmei ep.11-13

March 20, 2004 | 17 Comments

Well, this is it: the penultimate episodes of Haibane Renmei. The question that is on everyone's mind is of course, whether or not these episodes manage to wrap up the series in a satisfactory manner. Well, to me, to a certain extent it did and in some ways, it didn't. This is because there are questions in this series that don't have the answer that can satisfy any viewer due to the nature of the questions themselves. At the end of the day, for example, no one can tell you whether or not God exists, and for that matter, the concept of Heaven and Hell are not going to be accepted by all individuals. I feel that is why Haibane chose not to answers some of the questions that are closely related to this kind of issues, for there is no answer that will satisfy anyone. But if you leave it open to interpretation, then everyone will be able to take their own experiences and beliefs and apply it to what they've seen thus far in this series.

Haibane Renmei ep.8-10

Geez, I finally managed to get my Haibane Renmei 3rd DVD after one and a half month wait. Thanks a lot Viz, for taking such a long time to send another batch of Inuyasha DVD to the e-tailers to the point that all of my other orders were suspended waiting for just that one DVD to arrive. It's a good thing The Right Stuf.Inc actually saved me the first press edition of this third DVD or I will completely missed out on the limited edition pencil boards. Anyway, back to the show itself, it's good to see this series again especially now the series has dished out more revelations and hints of Rakka's and Reki's past life. I also have to say I really like the color pallettes that are used on the show thus far. As you can see from the screen caps, ABe's decision to use bright colors sparingly produces some striking images that I rarely see on other anime titles.

Happy New Year to y'all! How was your New Year's Eve? Got Drunk? ;) Took that obligatory fireworks picture? I only went to a restaurant with a bunch of friends and then went home and watched Haibane Renmei second DVD. And I'm glad that I did because the story has finally started to unravel. In these three episodes, unexpected events and incidents happens to the various members of the Haibanes who live inside the old home, prompting Rakka to questions her own existence within the town of Glie.

Haibane Renmei ep.1-4

Even though I already got Haibane Renmei Vol.1 DVD since a month ago, it's not until now that I got the chance to see it. I wish I had seen it sooner since this turns out to be a very interesting series. Created by the famous illustrator/character designer, Yoshitase Abe (of Serial Experiments Lain and NieA_7 fame), Haibane Renmei is a story about a group of Angel-like creature called 'Haibane', who lives within a town named Glie. In general, while the series maintains a calm pretense on its surface, beneath it there's an air of mystery that can make the viewer feels unease.
