Prior to watching this episode, I suddenly realised that the writers will probably have to cut down a few things in order to fit the remaining two chapters into one episode. Not surprisingly, this turns out to be true. If you want to see the difference, you can check the last chapter of the manga. I suspect a few people will lament this fact but apart from this, I think this is a perfect end for the series. Nojima Kenji did a good job as Takemoto's new seiyuu although his raspy voice was kind of hard to get used to. The final insert song for the series is 「田舎の生活」- Inaka no Seikatsu by Spitz. It comes from their album, Aurora ni Narenakatta Hito no tame ni. Anyway, I went a bit overboard with the screencaps this time around but it's the last episode of the series so it's fully justified. :)
The episode begins with Takemoto saying that he always wondered if an unrequited love has any meaning and if things that disappear are similar to things that didn't exist in the first place. After the credit, Shuuji is seen trying to calm Yamada after the later heard his confession. He told her that she heard exactly as he said it. When Yamada asks since when, Shuuji tells her that while he can explain, he's too embarrassed to say it. In addition to this, he hasn't told the person about it although he thinks she probably knows...or not. Yamada admits that she's in shock because she wasn't aware of this before. On a hindsight, she admits that even though Shuuji is quite old, he is still a guy. But even then, she never thought about it because he's quite 'out of the range'. Yamada then stands up nervously, babbling that she must tell Hagu. Before Yamada manages to do so, however, Shuuji already restrains her hands and covers her mouth, stopping her effectively.
Their struggle against each other, however, comes to an end when they see Mayama appearing in front of them. Yamada wonders why he's in here when he's supposed to be in Spain. Mayama, however, doesn't answer and instead gives Shuuji a bear hug, choking the poor guy in the process. Mayama tells Shuuji that he's heard all about it from Tange-sensei. After they stop goofing off, Mayama wonders if it's okay for Shuuji to quit so suddenly from the University, wondering what Shuuji will do for living expenses. Shuuji assures Mayama that he doesn't have to worry because after he helped out writing Tokudaiji-sensei's books, some publishers have offered him some writing work. In addition to this, he can do some art history seminars. In other words, Shuuji has more than enough work. Upon finding out about this, Mayama realises that Shuuji really has made his decision about this. Shuuji thinks that's probably true.
Later on, Mayama thanks Yamada for letting him know about Hagu. Yamada admits she wants to let him know more but afraid of just making Mayama more worried. Yamada also thanks Mayama for finding Morita but she wonders if she did the right thing. Mayama assures her that things can only progress in this manner. Upon hearing this, Yamada wonders if Hagu loves Morita. When Mayama tells her that he believes Hagu does love Morita, Yamada asks him why Hagu made this kind of decision. Because of this Mayama tells her that it's because this kind of decision is based on the meaning of life for each individual. There are those who live for love and those who don't. In Hagu's case, he believes that she chooses to do something else. Yamada wonders if that thing is more important than love so Mayama tells her that it's not about what's important or correct. He suggests that Yamada uses her own feelings to gauge the situation before worrying about it.
Back at the Uni, Shuuji is surprised when he finds Rika standing inside his office. She asks him if he's leaving the place and he confirms this. Tears starts to form in Rika's eyes as the two embrace each other. While this happens, Shuuji remembers the conversation that he had with Tange-Sensei earlier in the day. Shuuji told Tange-sensei about his intention to leave and thanked the Sensei for everything. Tange-sensei in return told Shuuji that he himself stays in this Uni because he likes it while Shuuji couldn't get out of here because he lost the exit. Tange-sensei believes that when Harada died, part of Shuuji died as well. However, when Shuuji brought Hagu here, Shuuji gradually returning to normal. Tange-sensei told Shuuji that this time it's his turn to save Hagu. He believes that it's the same as saving his own life. In the present time, Rika and Shuuji are holding hands inside the room. Rika then apologises for not coming earlier.
Shuuji tells her it's okay because she has an important job to complete. Rika admits that the truth is she wanted to go back earlier but was stopped by Mayama, who told her that even if they come back now, there's nothing that they can do. Rika asked Mayama to let her go, asking him what is it about Shuuji that Mayama knows. In reply, Mayama told her that he's known Shuuji for 6 years and know that he's a man of honour. Shuuji is embarrassed to hear this and tells Rika that that sort of words should have been said in person. Outside the building, Mayama stares at the office where Shuuji and Rika are currently talking before leaving the place quietly. Meanwhile, Kaoru is seen looking at a map, searching for the house that he, Morita, and his father used to live in. As he does this, he remembers the words that the President of Flyod Electrics said when he did the brutal takeover. When he finds the house, however, he realises that it is now occupied by a family.
A young and older woman are seen talking about preparing the tree for winter. They are also grateful that someone will lend them this house. Next to them, the President of the Floyd Electric apologises that they end up this way because his company was taken over. The President's grandson, however, doesn't mind because it's fun. His father, or the President's son, agrees with this, saying that he's happy that they went from being seperated from each other to living in one roof with one another. His wife support this statement by saying that she enjoys the lifestyle in here. Kaoru finally realises that Morita and Shiroyama are probably the ones who relocated these people to his father's old house. Kaoru makes a phone call to Shiroyama and at first hesitates to say anything. Shiroyama, however, quickly guesses that it's Kaoru who is on the other line. He tells Kaoru that there are many documents on the desk which requires his stamp/signature.
Kaoru starts to cry when Shiroyama tells him that everyone and himself have been waiting for him there. Shiroyama, who is aware of this, decides to joke around, asking Kaoru if he's interested a system which will take 190 Yen from each rich people throughout the world. Kaoru starts to laugh, telling Shiroyama that he'll be interested if it's 230 Yen instead. He also informs Shiroyama that he'll be back soon so he asks Shiroyama to assemble everyone and prepare a meeting. Shiroyama points out that Shinobu will come too once he hears that Kaoru is back so he wonders if Kaoru wants any food to go with it. Kaoru asks Shiroyama for Curry, prompting the other guy to say that Matsuda will do his best. Before the phone ends, Kaoru gives Shiroyama a sincere thank you. Meanwhile in the hospital, Hagu tells Shuuji that the pigeon in front of them looks like Yamada. Shuuji wonders which one Hagu was referring to so Hagu tells him it's the white one.
Hagu points out that the pigeon has large eyes, good posture, a full breast, and pink legs. She tells Shuuji that Satsuki-sensei told her to work with clay as a form of rehabilitation. Hagu wants to give it a try and wants Yamada to teach her pottery. She thinks the first thing that she'll make is a Pigeon sculpture. Hagu wants to give the first one to Yamada, the second one she wants to give to his father's new wife and newborn baby. Hagu wonders, however, if she can finish it in time. Shuuji assures her that she can definitely do it because the baby will be born in Spring. He then holds out his hand to Hagu and the two walk back into the Hospital. At the same time, Shinobu enters the ex-Floyd Electric building and finds Kaoru in the middle of eating Curry. Upon seeing Shinobu, Kaoru gives him a "Yo" and asks Shiroyama to prepare a plate of Curry with lots of meats for Morita. Shiroyama is overwhelmed by the entire thing and ends up crying.
That night when the two are about to sleep, Morita tells Kaoru that he'll probably go to Peter Lucas' place soon. He realises that he actually likes the old man and his office after all. He tells Kaoru fondly how when the electricity was cut off, the office workers came out carrying beam sabers, having fun time. Morita thinks that that was the first time he saw a bunch of silly adults apart from their own father. When Kaoru asks Morita about Hagu, Morita recalls how Hagu told him that she'll always be watching him. He thinks Hagu is a strong woman. She knew that he was ready to abandon just about everything and end it all. Back then she told him not to run away and to fight together. Morita thinks it was cruel of Hagu to say that she'll always be watching him since that means he has no choice but to do his best. Because of this, Morita wants to stand in front of Hagu one more time. He wants create something new and show it to Hagu.
Morita believes that when he thinks about this, it feels as if something shines brightly in front of his eyes. Kaoru wakes up from his futon and points out to Morita that it's morning already. He then says that he finally understands what their father once said about moving towards the light. Morita tells Kaoru that he feels the same way. Fast forward to the spring time, both Takemoto and Hagu has just graduated from the University. The group minus Morita decides to have Nabe party to congratulate Takemoto's and Hagu's graduation as well as to wish Takemoto luck for his journey to Morioka. They then noticed Morita and Peter Lucas being interviewed by inside a TV program. Morita at first looks smug but turns pissy when Peter Lucas says something in the interview. Hagu looks happy as she watches the interview and this does not go unnoticed by Shuuji. He then asks Takemoto when his Shinkansen will leave so Takemoto tells Shuuji that it'll be 9.30AM.
Shuuji is surprised when he finds out that Takemoto's room is now empty, wondering where Takemoto will sleep tonight. Mayama informs Shuuji that Takemoto will stay in his room for one last time.....that pretty much ruins the mood of the party. All of them now look as if they are about to burst into tears. Shuuji decides to break the sombre mood by telling to Hagu that they should buy some ice. He also suggested Takemoto to go with Hagu. After the two left, Mayama, Yamada, and Shuuji are depressed. Mayama admits that he's very close to crying just then. As it turns out Yamada and Shuuji felt the same way. Outside the apartment, Takemoto is riding a bike with Hagu as the sakura petals envelop the night street. Hagu leans on Takemoto, resting her head on his back and telling him that she thinks the temple that Takemoto will restore is blessed. Just by looking at his tower, Hagu understands that Takemoto never does anything shoddily or leave things incomplete.
She believes Takemoto always whole-heartedly repair his creation. Because of this, Hagu feels that the temple that he repairs will be happy. Takemoto smiles and thanks Hagu for the compliment. Hagu then tells Takemoto that she too will do her best and won't be defeated by Takemoto. She will get well because if she doesn't, she can't return Shuuji's kindness. Takemoto tells Hagu that she got it all wrong. He thinks it's okay if she can't give anything back because Shuuji wants to find what he's looking for by himself. Takemoto also believes that Shuuji is a person who is capable of doing this on his own. Upon hearing this, Hagu cries and thanks Takemoto for the kind words. The next day, Takemoto stares at his vacant room, describing the apartment (no bathroom, the rent is 34,000 Yen, during morning the room is bright because it's facing east). Today, however, Takemoto is leaving the place. He arrives at Tokyo Station and finds the Shinkansen looking empty.
Takemoto feels sad about leaving but he forgets about it when he notices Hagu running around the platform looking for something. Takemoto immediately comes out of his compartment and calls Hagu. She in return is relieved to see Takemoto and proceeds to give him wrapped good. The two then hug each other before saying goodbye for the last time. Once the door closes and the train leaves the station, Hagu runs alongside the train. She eventually stops and waves her hands at Takemoto. Inside the train, Takemoto opens the wrapped goods and laughs upon finding a big, highly-stacked sandwiches. He then opens one of the layers to see what is inside the sandwich and is surprised upon seeing layers upon layers of Honey and four-leaf Clovers. Tears starts forming in Takemoto's eyes. A narration from Hagu, wishes Takemoto all the happiness he can get while a flashback shows her looking for four-leaf Clovers all on her own.
Takemoto feels as if he is talking to Hagu, telling her that he always wondered if there is a meaning to a love that did not turn out well. If things that are missing is similar to things that never existed. Right now he understands that there is a meaning to it. Takemoto cries and tells himself that he's happy that he fell in love with Hagu. As Split plays, the credit shows everyone living their own seperate life. Mayama and Rika are back in Spain, dealing with Mac Carlos. Yamazaki and Miwako still work at Fujiwara Design. Yamada still makes pottery and Nomiya occasionally visits her. Morita works for Lucas Digital and gets along well with his fellow geeks. Hagu and Shuuji are continuing their rehab. Takemoto is now with the temple construction group, looking at the bright blue sky. As he does this, Takemoto tells himself:
"Although time will pass and the day when everything will become a mere memory will come, I was there, you were there, everyone was there, looking for only one thing under those miraculous days. No matter when, it feels sweet and painful at the same time. It will remain in that distant place in my heart. Always feels nostalgic, always turning". The End
Impression:
I already talked a lot about this story when I reviewed the manga version so I won't repeat much of it here. Having said that, the scene where Takemoto opens his sandwich and finds Honey and 4 leaf Clovers is still as powerful as it was in the manga. The fact that Hagu went out of her way to look for that many four leaf clovers say a lot about what she feels for Takemoto. She may not have romantic feelings for him but I believe what she feels for Takemoto is quite similar to what she feels for Shuuji. This episode also clearly emphasised that Morita is the one that Hagu loves in the romantic sense of the word. Her look while she was watching the television is a clear indication of this. I think if Hagu ever regains her ability to draw, she will look for Morita. Having said that, I don't mind one way or the other. The pairings in this series was never the main attraction for me, which is why I don't mind that Nomiya and Yamada's side story got cut out from this episode.
In that story, Nomiya made Yamada cried because he asks her if she'd press a switch that will cause Leader to be forever trapped in a darkened room if it means Mayama will love her. Nomiya later on made up for it by taking Yamada to Yokohama. Yamada, however, tells Nomiya that she thinks they shouldn't be together since she doesn't know when she will be able to forget about Mayama. Nomiya, however, tells Yamada that even though it's hard for him, he wants to spend his life for her. I personally think that Nomiya will soon get bored of Yamada if she continues pining for Mayama. I think what Yamada needs is someone who is different from Mayama. Nomiya is too close to Mayama in name (their first names are Takumi) and appearance. Morever, he works at a place that Mayama frequents so seeing Nomiya will forever be a reminder of Mayama. Having said that, I hope Yamada will be able to forget about Mayama now that he is in Spain for a long time.
For the first time ever, I noticed the parallel between Takemoto and Yamada. They both are individuals whose love are not reciprocated. Unlike Yamada, however, Takemoto chooses to move on with his life. Besides, the love that he had for Hagu wasn't wasted. As proven in the ending, Hagu does love him even if it's not in the way that Takemoto wants it. Similarly, Mayama still love Yamada even if that love is not a romantic one. At the end of the day, Honey and Clover is a story about the love that a person has for his/her friends. A part of Shuuji died after Harada died, Morita supports Yamada when she was broken-hearted, Takemoto and Yamada show their support for Hagu when she needed it. Anyway, the end of the series made me realise that I too need to move on. I've been stuck in a rut for a long time, not knowing what I want to do. I think it's time to move on and figure out what I really want to do in life.
Well, that's it. Thank you to everyone who commented here. It's been fun talking about this series with all of you. I am looking forward to the DVD release. If you like the series, then I hope you will buy the DVD to support it. If it wasn't for the overwhelming support for the first season, I doubt that the second season would have been made at all. I am also looking forward to Umino Chika's new series which supposed to debut this fall. I am also curious as to what everyone's favourite episodes from the second season. For me the season didn't really take off until the Morita brothers' arc. I really like Kaoru as a character and am glad to see him being developed so well in the space of one episode. I can identify a lot with him just like I identify a lot with Takemoto. Below are the list of the episodes, songs, and characters that I like. I'd appreciate it if you let me know your favourite episodes/songs/characters from the second season.
Honey and Clover II top 5 episodes
1. Episode 12: I really like this episode mostly because of that scene at the end of the episode. How else do you end a series called Honey and Clover but to show a sandwich filled with Honey and four leaf clovers.
2. Episode 07: Character development piece for Kaoru. The part where Kaoru honestly tells himself that he's jealous of his brother and father was heartbreaking.
3. Episode 06: Takemoto's last line in this episode was a killer. It's sad to know that they never went to the beach together after this.
4. Episode 08: as cruel as it may sound, the scene where the glass shards fall onto Hagu looks really cool. Plus Mayama vs. Mac Carlos and Devil Mayama was a hoot.
5. Episode 04: seeing the friendship between Shuuji, Harada, and Rika is torned apart by the accident was harrowing.
Honey and Clover II top 5 songs
1. Split - Suneohair: a perfect song which spells out the theme of the second season: separation.
2. Happy Birthday - Suga Shikao: a very good song that illustrates what Kaoru feels for his father and his brother.
3. Koko ni Iru Koto - Suga Shikao: I simply like the melody and the longing feel that the song conveys.
4. Fugainaiya - Yuki: it took me a while to get used to it but I supposed it's an entertaining song that has a warning about staying too long in a rut.
5. Futari no Kage - Suga Shikao: I like the jazz infusion within the song. It also happens to be a very relaxing song.
Honey and Clover II top 5 characters
1. Takemoto Yuuta: even in the second season, his story is the one that is easiest to identify. Some of his monologues are the best that I've heard so far. Kudos to both Kamiya Hiroshi and Nojima Kenji for doing a good job as the character.
2. Morita Kaoru: Kaoru is the 2nd character that I can identify the most. It's hard not to sympathise with him when you know first hand what it feels to be ignored by your own father. Kaoru's envious confession at the end of episode 7 also worth a mention.
3. Morita Shinobu: I think Morita is a bit of a jerk in this season but he reminds me so much of my best friend that I can't help myself from nominating him for the 3rd position.
4. Mayama Takumi: sure, he's a stalker but that's why he's so much fun. He's so unabashed about it. It helps that his VA, Tomokazu Sugita, is one talented performer.
5. Hanamoto Hagumi: I actually find her a lot easier to understand in the second season. Her artistic mental thought also reminds me of myself when I'm facing similar problem.
OMG. T_T this is sooo sad.
oh my, i cant beleive this series is practically over. but im glad how it ended instead of dragging everything like some other anime, thx for the constant episode updates ! ^_^
Just finished watching the last ep...I had a feeling this was coming...I knew this was going to happen...
*spoiler*
Since there was no proper ending between the Mayama x Ayu x Nomiya triangle...Umino Chika's Honey and Clover spin off manga will most likely be based on that triangle. This is just my prediction. Another possiblility is that it may be solved within the special dvd ep (ep 13). If it does appear in ep 13, I will say that Umino-san will base the spinoff on Takemoto instead
*end of spoiler*
One thing I would like to say is I love how they solve the Kaoru issue. It's exactly how I imagined it. Although it might've been a bit rushed, I still applaud that they manage to get it right.
For those who have been following the series closely....you can see that Rika looks less pale in this final ep. It's mainly because Mayama has been keeping that musclehead out of her reach and keeping himself busy with the Spaniard. Kudos to J.C. Staff and the whole production team for keeping track even the smallest detail.
Since this series is now come to a close, all I can say is that it helped me through a lot....it even help me find myself at times...what I'm capable of...and what I actually wanted to do when I graduate. It's amazing how certain things can inspire people....
Lastly, Garten, before you start anything new....please catch up with XXXHOLiC... =)
I'm a little bit disappointed because of Ayu's and Nomiya's relationship in the anime, especially in the last episodes. I really hope that will be fixed in future's speacial ep.
Sorry my bad english, it's not my mother language.
So the biggest scene they cut out would probably be Nomiya and Yamada's chat, right?
kudos to the stuff, great job....thank you.
I hope they leave the Nomiya and Yamada subject open ended and that it is not ever solved. I really would hate to see Yamada ending with Nomiya. I hope the episode 13 deals with something else and the Manga follows the adventures of Takemoto.
About Nomiya-Yamada: Im sure they will get together soon. Yamada is slow to realize her love for Nomiya. We already had so much Yamada monlogue regarding Nomiya. Its safe to assume that they'll be in a relationship... (end of the manga, but if they continued, the relationship would be built up anyways)
I hope Yamada doesn't end up with Nomiya. Perhaps it's because I like the MayamdaxYamada pairing, or perhaps because I don't want her feelings for Mayama to fade away, which would mean that time had really passed, and I don't want that. Confusing, huh?
Spoilers:
So they showed Morita on TV huh? I think it would have been better for him not to be there like in the manga and Hagu to long a bit sad...
Thanks a lot for all the summaries. I hope the spinoff comes out soon...I miss Honey and Clover already, knowing everything is over, and everyone has gone their seperate ways.
Well, it looks like it's pretty close to the manga, so I'm happy. Susan - the fact that Nomiya's a version of Mayama, albeit a more mature one, which will probably keep those two apart - she realizes he's a lot like Mayama... which is part of why she keeps her distance, on top of wanting to keep her feelings for Mayama special. Takemoto dealt with his unrequited feelings by being thankful for them, since they added a texture to life that he's grateful for, even if he knows that they'll fade into memories rather than lingering painfully for the rest of his lifetime. Ayu's taking the other route - she's holding onto them, not wanting them to fade away, even if she sacrifices her present in the process of keeping them so.

Well, given how Morita showed up on a webcam in that last chapter of the manga, this isn't that big a change. She looked wistful in there too, much as she did here, and Shuuji also tagged it there as well. He knows she isn't picking him romantically (that's Morita, after all), and understands that. Even if he got misinterpreted in the last ep. :D
aww! I have tears in my eyes from reading the last quote! I love Takemoto! I will sure miss this series! Thanks for the screencaps! I like this ending alot! Its very cute! And if they do make a spinoff
I think this is one of the best line on any anime. Tekemoto as he cries while eating a honey and clover sandwich “Hagu-chan, I am glad I fell in love with you” :( :(
*sniffles*
Takemoto's VA did a decent job, but, nooo it's not Takemoto!! Hopefuly the DVD version will have the real Takemoto :-P
And I can't believe they left out the part where Takemoto sees Hagu going shopping for bread... it makes the ending so much dramatic.
It doesn't seem like there's gonna be an ep13 either, since all the DVD's have been announced, 4 releases with 3 eps each = 12. :-(
aaa... do u think there's going to be a honey and clover 3? or a spinoff like what everyone's predicting?
ahh...
Somebody stop the tears please.
;___;
I love that last line.
I just simply love it.
So that's that mean Shuuji actually likes Hagu that way? That's....I'm at lost to describe what I'm feeling. I like the series but that particular plot left a sour taste in my mouth.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Shuuji liking Hagu that way, i wish people would get over it already. It's perfectly fine to not like this pairing, but don't make it sound like it's incest or child molestation...
Anyhow, i loved this episode, my only complaint would be that they left out the Nomiya/Yamada conversation, but i guess they had to leave out something. Glad they showed us Karou's return since he's my favorite side character.
Takemoto's seiyuu did a good job, considering the fact that he didn't have much time to prepare for it.
H&C will always remain one of my favourite series!
Goodbye.
To quite possibly
One of the best stories
in the history of anime.
Ayu is my favorite character. No complaints about this excellent episode, but I do wish they had left in more of her and Nomiya. I think they do each other good: he can give her confidence, she can bring him down from his pride. The little bit under the credits of them together happily was good. But I actually think that none of the "pairings" are set in stone. Life goes on.
Aah. I've never gotten teary eyed just because a series ended...
But that was melancholic. I too am very happy with how this ended though, and am quite positive this will continue to be my favorite series for a very very long time.
And now, I really have no character I dislike. I really love everyone! From Takemoto to Leader... everyone.
wah TT_TT why is it that of all the scenes to be cut, its the one about yamada and nomiya???
I'm new to this site but I juz wanted to thank Garten for the fabulous & wonderous updates of all the animes in pariticular my current fave H & C. I've never failed to religiously log in to check up the latest update! Honto Agrigato!
I've read the manga b4 i gotten hooked on the anime (Garten's postings) and it's a good anime/manga perhaps bcoz it's a 'matured' theme; realities about adulthood, making a living and ends meet; dealing with f/s & r/s, etc. Somehow I find mayama x rikia pairing very appealing perhaps it's bcoz I've always like characters to be strong (rikia) and independent as they're physically challenged (odd huh?) but there's more to the independence. Yamada x nomiya is good pair too =)
I've enjoyed reading all the comments posted, man, this is a fab site! Thanks mina! yeah, looking forward to the dvds and hopefully there's a part III!
man...that was a great episode. Great way to end a series. Shuji's confession was a little shocking though..-_-;;;
Thank you so very much for blogging about this great series. =]
Episode 10 and episode 7 are probably my favorite from this season. In general I'm a big Morita fan so seeing him go to Hagu and them having their moment was something I enjoyed a lot. Episode seven's story was also very touching. It dealt a lot with human darkness and inequality that are naturally born within each individuals. An insight into the mysterious Kaoru was very pleasing also.
Morita Shinobu is definitely my favorite character. His character really just appeals to me in ways i can't really describe ^-^;;
"Yamada and Rika are back in Spain and dealing with Mac Carlos" i think theres a spelling mistake xD its Mayama not yamada .__. i know its a small one but i love this series so yeah xD thanks garten !! =D
H&C is one of the most incredible stories i ever seen ... although they do not mention about the ending of individual relationship but they showed what most anime couldnt have would be the process and also how strong these character survived and moved on although i was hoping to see the ending for the pairing but the episode itsself has proven its name (: and thumbs up !!
i still love it till the end (:
Happy Birthday by Suga Shikao is possibly my most favourite Hachikuro song ever. I don't know why too but it just sounds so sad and so.... hmmm >_
how bleh. my comment got cut half way. x_x
Happy Birthday by Suga Shikao is possibly my most favourite Hachikuro song ever. I don't know why too but it just sounds so sad and so.... hmmm ;_;
Aside from that, my favourite line in the anime (from 1 - 11), considering I haven't downloaded 12 would be the line uttered by takemoto regarding the beach outing. It's so real and so true and so often happens in our lives. We often make promises to do something but never fulfill them when the time comes but in our minds, there's always this vague memory of fun that you imagined everybody would have together.
This is truly an awesome anime and minna-san! please. Do buy the dvd and support it when it comes out. =)
btw. Garten, a BIG thank you goes out to you for doing this series justice. =) No other person has done a job as wonderful as u in summarising and talking about hachikuro and because of that, u have my admiration
I too would like to thank you Garten, for the marvelous job you've done in summarising Honey and Clover (both seasons) for us. I for one, would have never seen this series if it weren't for your rave reviews- and now, this is one of my all time favourites.
The second season was lovely, and Honey and Clover got the fantastic ending it truely deserved.
I would like to thank you too Garten. If I have never read the preview I might not take a glance to this good series. This series is actually remind me somethings very importance too.
wow....it actually ended in ep 12?? T.T
Though I still find it a little disappointing that Takemoto's original seiyuu can't voice for this final episode with all those deep and touching monologue. Since it's the very final ending of this series afterall, and he's done really good job with those monologue throughout the series T_T
Haven't watch ep. 12 but I hope the new seiyuu would do well.
I fully expect this episode to be tearjerking, since the manga had me in tears even though I didn't understand a word of Japanese. I'm gonna prepare a bucket once Solar-IDE releases the last episode xD (And here's hoping they'd release it before I have to go back to uni tomorrow! Curse you, internetless uni!)
My favourite songs are Nakayoshi, Koko ni iru koto, Je t'aime and Natsukage. They're kind of sad...
I love episode 10. In the first season, I didn't support Morita x Hagu pairing, but the second season blow that hatred away.
If it hadn't been for you, Garten, I wouldn't have had the interest to follow this beautiful series. Thank you so much. I'll still looking forward to your blogging of fall's season series (especially Death Note, which I'm a huge fan, although Harakuri?man looks interesting). Does anyone know which will be the anime that will replace our beloved Hachikuro?
Karoru, Hataraki Man will be the one that replaces Honey and Clover. It's the new series which will occupy the NOITAMINA block on Fuji TV.
O gosh someone please stop the tears...!
I haven't read the above cos I don't want to spoilt the last eveer ep of quite possibly one of the very best and well developed animes ever. It's way too sad...but am looking forward to watching Hataraki Man, maybe it'll cheer up all the saddened fans ^^
I've been lurking on your blog to get Hachikuro updates since the beginning, and I can't believe it has now come to an end. Your updates helped whet my appetite and drive my hunger for that next episode even more, so thank you for your efforts.
What a beautiful show! I'm so glad that Umino-sensei was true to her form by not force-feeding us a contrived happy end. If life is a journey as portrayed in this work, then the characters' lives should rightfully continue with all the possibilities ahead of them, and many of those choices left to be made. I'm personally sad not to see a focus on Yamada and Nomiya in this last episode, but I think the decision to focus on Takemoto was right. His journey really personifies the spirit of this story the best. Kudos to the director and anime staff who've made the best manga to anime adaption I've seen so far.
I know they won't do this...but I wonder if they're going to release a special edition of the last episode with the original VA for Takemoto. That would be awesome.
But...most importantly...this episode is going to make me cry because all of my friends are drifting away and it feels like I won't see them for a very long time.
*sniff*
I cried when I read the manga, then I cried all over again when I watched the anime... I don't think I've ever liked any anime/tv show/movie as much as I liked Hachimitsu and Clover.
My favorite song in this series was probably "Honoho" by Spitz. I've loved this song ever since it came out and I was really happy they used it in this series. I also really loved the scene that they used it for. I personally think that Sugita Tomokazu's performance in that scene was pure gold, as well.
My favorite episode is definitely Episode 12. It was, in my opinion, the perfect ending for the perfect anime. Although, I think I would have loved it better if Takemoto's voice had stayed the same.
My second favorite episode (it was also the episode in which I cried the most) is Episode 7. The Morita brothers are my favorite characters in Hachikuro so it was nice to see them in the spotlight.
And my third favorite episode is Episode 4. Like I mentioned above, I think Sugita Tomokazu's performance was amazing in this episode. Also, seeing Shuji, Rika, and Harada torn apart like that was absolutely heart wrenching.
Gokurousama and a big arigatou to both Garten and Umino-sensei!! You both rock!!!
By the way... Garten, are you going to blog the new Rozen Maiden when it comes out?
I know they won't do this...but I wonder if they're going to release a special edition of the last episode with the original VA for Takemoto. That would be awesome.
That will be a nice extra. I like Nojima Kenji's rendition of Takemoto but I'm already used to Kamiya Hiroshi's voice. Also, Nojima Kenji sounds a bit upbeat while delivering that last line. I thought he needs to be more...retrospective...for the lack of a better word.
By the way... Garten, are you going to blog the new Rozen Maiden when it comes out?
I definitely will but that's not out until Winter, I think. I was actually just browsing CD Japan and they have the OP for pre-order. The OP theme for the OVA is called, 「薔薇獄乙女」 - Baragoku Otome by ALI PROJECT.
i wish they would have made the last episode a special 1 hour thing then maybe they would have added everything =-= but hey it was still a good ending they did maan although i cant cry but the las thing that takemoto said was the best ever! poor him! XD
I thought Hataraki Man was perfect for the Noitamina block when I read the plot summary. I knew Nodame Cantabile was going to air in that slot, but that will be in 2007, I assume it will be after Hataraki Man. Thank you for the information! (sorry for my horrible english!)
Sigh...I cried reading your summary of the manga's last episode, and again after this...sigh...dont' know what to do when I actually manage to d/l this and watch the last episode. So sad...
H & C was with me the entire time of 1st year uni (I can connect well with some of the characters)...and so has your summaries Garten. Like others, I have also "religiously" checked your site for summaries of the Raws. Thanks for all these summaries! Now I just have try to find another anime with the same depth, beautiful drawing, and character development which I can relate with so well.
Once again, thanks Garten!
I think I made that same point before in this same blog entry, about Takemoto and Yamada being parallels when it comes to their relationships, including the fact that Takemoto's not afraid of having his feelings unreturned - and he's not afraid to move on, whereas Yamada feels that if she moves on, she's betrayed any meaning those feelings ever had... and thus it keeps her eternally in limbo, torturing herself over a situation that will NEVER go the way she wants it.
It was DEFINITELY heavier than the first season (not surprising, given that they're all starting to split up and move on with separate lives), but I liked it nonetheless... even if they did cut some of the ending out.
I didn't feel the music was as strong this time around, though - it was there, but it didn't seem to mesh as well with the scenes as it did in the first season. Animation was okay, though.
Gosh, can't believe it had come to an end. Either the Manga or the Anime, remind me lots of stuff, which touches me most. A good storyline and good character and of coz good songs! Way to go, HXC!
Well , cant say anything for now ...
*sob*
I still need some more time to cry over the fact that Hachikuro has ended . I got addicted to the series and sticked with it for the last one year and a half - the time when I took the uni entrance exam , when I have to split up with my friends in highschool , those I got too close for 3 years or so . I cried when the last schoolday ended , and now I cried when Hachikuro ended . I feel a little empty now .
Honey and Clover is such a beautiful anime, with all its simplicity and heart-whelming stories. Too bad its over. But wow, the ending did put a tear on my eye.
Indeed, you're right about the ending. The clover leaf on each layer of the sandwich was a very powerful moment. I really cried at that moment. ^^
Thanks for the awesome reviews on Honey and Clover!
I was a bit taken aback by shuuji's confession.
But I wonder if he didn't do it on purpose to upset Morita for not being the flawless prince he wished Hagu would love.
It's obvious that Hagu sees more Shuuji like a big brother and that her adult love is more directed to Morita.
Still i'm so saddened by the ending.... soooo heartbroken.
I hope the author will make little stories about how they evolve (like ten years after).
In any case thank you so much for your work.
Hana, you're not alone.I too, so heartbroken that it ended it that way.I was in so obsessed with Hagu and Morita relatioship, well i doubt it they end up together after I watch the ep10 ending song.
Well, atleast there's one part that makes me relief is that Hagu is still love Morita but her drawings is her top priority.I don't think that Hagu have romantic feelings towards Shuuji. If she really do have then she wouldn't have to say to Shuuji this "Sorry I cannot give you anything in return".Hagu would never say that to shuuji if she have love interest towards Shuuji She needs Shuuji compassion support to help her rehab. When the time comes, she might looking for Morita.Still, in the end Hagu makes the right choice T^T *snif*.I'm glad she's strong. The ending was so long and it ended up so well though I was still dissapoint about the ending.
Morita may be lost for be the one for taking care of Hagu but for me, he's lucky enough that Hagu is in love with him and he win this part! Like he said before he'll never forget this.I do hope they'll make another special chapter for this, well I doubt it.Guess I should go look for another anime to remedy my broken heart.I'm really torning apart right now.
thank u so much, Garten! I knew u've been updating reviews on this series, but didn't read it until now that I just finished watching all the 12 episodes. episode 12 and "split" are my favorites too! It reminds me of my own college life and departing after graduation. It's the end of an era. It's the beginning of another. Not everything is perfect, but you would never regret about having lived that way. I really cried hard with Takemoto at the end...
Thanks again for the great reviews! :-)
Now I know that I still haven't thanked Garten properly . Sorry because last time I was so upset :( ...
Thank you for being such a dilligent worker that provides us with the greatest reviews ever of one of the greatest anime series ever .
Thank you again and again , your blog is the 1st that I've written any comments .
I will look forward to your entries of Autumn shows :) , But I think that we will have to wait long long time before another amazing show like Hachikuro appears again .
Takemoto's monologues are nice as usual, but in this last episode are the best. When he said "Is there any meaning to unrequited love?" the second time I felt like crying, and that was probably one of the best moments in that episode.
My favourite character for this series is definitely Takemoto, no doubt about it.
Yes, another one of my favourite comedy romantic drama anime. At first I was very dissappointed the ending of this series. After watching it few times again and with the help of your review, Garten, I finally realize something and it's best to end it that way and I'm satisfied with it already though it was so sad.Life is always not that perfect and must move forward. And of course, Honey and Clover is definitely one of my favourite series. Thanks for fast update for this episode review.Very appreciate it.
hey, when is this coming out subbed?? i hope its soon ! =]
Wow...excellent anime.... I never expected it will end so...(how could you say) 'happily..... I was expected H&C will have a not-so-happy ending.... But these is surprising...Marvellous anime, great character development, nice & very realistic view in life.... As post grads, I really into the whole since the first episode & and until now... I seen the latest movie tralier... that they will have Real Action Movie for Honey & Clover.... hmm...can the movie live up to its anime anticipation??? I wonder...
Honey & Clover is the best anime I've ever watch compared with tons of other anime. It touched me for every single episode I watched. How the true friendship are, how to get move forward and being a prefect self are all learnable from this series. It's just so perfect! I'll definately rewatch this anime again. This is one of the anime that can effect the way you think and make decision for your own life. I personally like most of the character as they uniquely identified themselves as a very different characterisitic among each others. For those who haven't watch H&C, watch it! It worth you. Thank to Garten for the posts. I'm sure everyone would appreciate it.
Regards,
t3ngf0ung
As with the first, many thanks to Garten for continuing to provide us with reviews and insights on such a wonderful series to the very end. It's been a sobering experience (similar to giving up on unrequited love) watching the characters progress, grow up and move on. I can't say it is really sad, but it is something I will deeply miss.
The most profound character in this series for me personally is and always has been Takemoto. He speaks truer than any character I've ever come across it just makes him that great. Hearing his monologue about coming to terms with his inability to care for Hagu was just so tragic and poignant. It's so close to the way I think about everything else in my life. I couldn't help but relive his pain all over again. He's one of the only characters I think that actually thinks beyond himself and isn't afraid to face his fears to the end.
As much as I like Morita his selfishness and deteriorated relationship with Takemoto had me liking him less, but that's another story. Kaoru would be my pick for second. I've always felt an attachment to him even in his brief stint in the first series. I identify with some of his feelings, especially being an older sibling myself. Trying hard show and become your absolute best and realize that even your best still isn't enough is always painful. He's a great character with so much depth. Kaoru is the epitome of one who's been deprived of love and one who's been consumed with lonliness. So tragic, he really deserved so much better.
Honey and Clover opened with in the middle of the lives of what came to be five friends. It began as happy and silly with a touch seriousness and eventually evolved to serious with a hint of silliness. Life seems to move this way as well. When we are young and inexperienced, little things become really dramatic. As we get older it's not that those things are really little, but our priorities in life eventually change along with the things that make us happy and make us sad. Looking back at the things I used to worry about makes me remember how much I've grown and how great it was to have "just those problems" to think about unlike now. Life will always be like that I guess. Bitter sweet like Honey and Clover.
Damn those sandwiches!!! T__T
I felt so choked up inside while watching that scene~ XD
Honey and Clover is one anime I will never forget!
Man... it taught me a lot... about love... about friends... and it also made me realize many things about myself...
Sigh~
Bittersweet memories are always the ones that never fade away~
As usual, I come here after writing my Hachikuro post because you were the step that took me from just liking the series to really loving it and I thank you for that... I, too, really started to like Kaoru as a person and I think that he may have even became my favorite character just moving a head of Takemoto. And speaking of which, though I dont hate Nojima Kenji, unlike you who thought his voice was too harsh, I thought his voice wasn't harsh enough. Ha... Thank you again for moving me with your writing.
I just saw this episode yesterday and the ending is etched into my mind. I couldn't handle it when Takemoto bid his final farewell to his apartment, I couldn't deal with it when he found that the sandwiches that Hagu had made for him contained a four-leaf clover in each layer...I couldn't even stop tearing when Hagu said that the pigeon reminded her of Ayu...
All in all, it was a bittersweet ending, I loved the entire series...I have fallen in love with all the characters...and I am glad I did...
I agree that this whole series was very beautiful, and also made me feel as though I need to move on with life :) This is an incredibly nostalgic anime series for me, because during college I lived and studied with four other music majors. I had a great deal of fun comparing the H&C cast to my housemates, and with myself.
Garten, I have been reading this site for quite a while, and I have to thank you for the time and effort that you put into the review of each and every episode. As far as what you want to do, I hope that you find it. I think that you could easily find a marketing-type position, or perhaps website design is more your thing (the simple, modern, organized style of your site is very refined!).
In any case, good luck in the future. I look forward to the fall lineup!
The ending monologue certainly was great. But the one that did it for me and made my eyes all swelled up in tears was the one where Takemoto described his apartment. The one that mirrored the 1st episode of the 1st season - "Boku wa kyou, koko wo dete iku," and bowed. It made me remembered all the "kiseki no hibi" that spanned the three seasons of the series, and that indeed this would be the terminal to those days. I probably have a thing for mirrored monologues, just as in 1st season Takemoto's monologue that started with "Boku ga mada chiisakatta goro..." To me, it shows that the animators remember and care the flow and the integrity of the entire story, rather than just creating discrete episodes (which is my opinion on Ouran). Btw, Nojime Kenji did a FLAWLESS job at delivering that line (with melancholy and a subtle but absolute determination). Kanpeki. One that is just as good as if would've been by Kamiya Hiroshi.
My top moments in HCII:
1) Ep 12 - Takemoto and Hagu's surreal scene on the bike at night, with the cherry blossom falling. Takemoto bids farewell to his apartment. Final scene at the station and on the train, with the hachimitsu and clover sandwich.
1) Ep 4 - Shuuji's agony with his past regarding Harada and Rika. Mayama's confrontation on Rika, in the sound of Spitz's Hohono. Pure impact. It really put the season into full swing, just like the weather cock, ferris wheel, and bicycle motifs of this series.
3) Ep 6/7 - Kaoru's struggle. Also, as painful to watch as it was, Yamada's (attempted) transition on Mayama was well-done, especially the scene where Yamada hit Mayama's head with a box of daikon sprouts.
4) Ep 11 - Strange one, but I liked ep11's ending when Shuuji shouted out his raw emotions. Purely hot-blooded scene, with a perfect fade-in of Split.
5) Ep 3 - Nomiya's confession with Yamada at the ending, and the unicorns. Yet another perfect fade-in of the ED. Seishuu banzai!!!
I have never posted here, but I really wanted to do it because when I was watching Honey and Clover I read all your posts about it. English is not my mother language, so I am sorry for the mistakes.
Since the first ever I saw Honey and Clover I loved it. I saw the first series and today I saw the last episode. I was a little "afraid" of watching it, because it's so strange that it's over. I loved it, specially the characters, their development and all the sense of friendship. I loved the end. But, I must say, maybe I felt that bittersweet feeling that Takemoto was talking about. I can understand him in many ways, and the same to the others characters.
About the music, Waltz was great, and so Split. Waltz was perfect to the first series, and so Split for the second one. Music is great in H&C. If it wasn't the music, the anime wouldn't be so magic as it is.
It's hard to say whose characters I loved the most. I love Takemoto and what he feels, what he shows, the way he becomes more courageous. I love Morita and how he makes me laugh, how strong he was, how strong he is and, at the same time, how weak. I loved Kaoru. I loved Ayu and the way she wanted the best for their friends. I loved Mayama, I loved "Shuu-chan". And I loved Hagu. So much.
It will always be one of my favourite series. And I will miss it.
How depressing that it's over.
I found this episode a little dissapointing, though. It failed to make me cry and that's all I wanted! But this series weakened in the second season, so I guess all things considered it was good.
Hi I was wondering if anyone knew who the spin off manga is going to be abt, i have heard rumors that it's going to be abt Yamada and Nomiya, but I wasn't sure?
I'm from Singapore and only Season 1 is available. I'm waiting for Season 2 to be out on sale. Your review on each episode was in such details that as if I was watching the anime itself. Thank you for the effort and time spent on updating all of us. I do hope the spinoff will be a conclusion on Morita & Hagu, a good one of cos. And as for Yamada & Nomiya, I hope it's a good ending too for I'm pretty fond of Nomiya this character. Hope the wait for Season 2 won't be very long... ps I printed out all your comments and binded as a booklet :)
OMG and I loved the fact that Nomiya and Yamada were together, he seemed to make her smile more than Mayama does. But I guess it is true that she (Yamada) should look for someone that is different from Mayama so that she can heal herself.
Yes, in the course of time one person changes a lot, and so does his or her surroundings, may it be people, landscapes, etc., and that love has many faces; marriage is not the only way to show a person that you love them.
It's a really good ending to the series, though I am a bit disappointed with the turnout in terms of the relationships. I guess that's how it is in life; you never really know what will happen and what it's like to be in a particular situation unless you experience it yourself. I think Umino Chika just wants to tell us all that we shouldn't bother with the big things in life, that we should follow our hearts and take things one step at a time. Life is life, that is what it is and we shouldn't ask way too many questions.
Hello everyone!
This is actually my very first comment on anime. I've been watching quite a number of animes and been surfing a number of websites or blogs concerning anime but have not yet put on any comment on them.
I found this site a few days ago and i even copied the page coz it'a about HACHIKURO. I would say that HACHIKURO is one of my fav. anime.
I was amazed to see that there are so many people out there who are so into HACHIKURO. The cable tv in my country has only shown the first season of the anime. Even though I have only watched the first season, I am so hooked up to it.
Indeed, it's a story about life, making decision, being in dilemma, friendship and relationship. Somehow, I'm kinda glad that i know i'm not alone in dealing with a severe addiction to anime.
When i read all the comments, i found out that there are some people, like myself, addicted to anime so much that it feels like it's just too hard to let it go. HACHIKURO is that type of anime. Something so hard to let go, even thought it's already over.
Although i haven't watch the second season, i kinda understand how it ended based on reviews made by all of u (thanks!)
HACHIKURO has indeed left a great impact on me. I think I can understand why people make choices in their life, sometimes, it is something that against their own wish.
Some people are not afraid to move on even after facing the hardest period in life. Some people are too afraid to move on because moving on is like changing life or losing themselves. HACHIKURO reflected the real world actually. What the characters faced are what we face in our life. Perhaps in a different route. The best way is to keep on living even though our journey won't be something smooth sailing.
I know one thing, at least. I'm not that all alone after all. I can choose to sulk all my life with what i've been facing or I can try to be strong no matter what it takes. (Sometimes i feel i'm the only one who is so severely addicted here... :) )
So, i'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone here for whatever you guys did and said and I'm quite sure I will move on.
Minna, honto ni arigato. Watashi wa ima hitori janai. Watashi wa mirai e ikimasu! Mata ne!
Hi, minna-san!
I cried a lot when i watched the ending of this anime. Really. Especially when Takemoto opened the sandwiches and found 4-leaf-clovers in it and then Hagu's voice saying "Arittake no, arittake no shiawase o...anata ni..." (=let there be as much happiness as possible come to you..)
I really really like the ending. I still watch it a lot. This is the kind of ending that's (my opinion) really rare in nowadays' animes. The ending feels so realistic. It could really happen in our lives.
At first I hate shojo genre anime. I hate love stories and bla bla. But my friend highly recommended me to watch this. I watched the 1st episode and it suddenly made me hooked! Then I couldn't stop watching and wandering what happened next!
I like Morita a lot. I think he's the one who mostly understands other characters' feelings. Like when he comforted Yamada. Or when he comforted Takemoto. And I think also he love Takemoto and Hagu so much.
I like Takemoto too. Along the stories, he's the one who improves most. And his narrations often caught my heart. I even wrote some of his words in my notebook.
Then, I like Hagu a lot. She's so strong. And i like how she loves to draw a lot.
There's no character that I don't like in Hachikuro. And I think if I look at them, I found parts of me inside them. This is only my thoughts, so..^^
And for the songs, I love: Split, Natsukage, Room 201, Kazenagi. They have deep meanings.
I'm really going to miss this series. It taught me a lot. Truly, life must go on.
Thanks a lot for reviewing this anime!^^
"Toki ga sugite, nani mo kamo omoide ni naru hi wa kitto kuru. Demo, boku ga ite, kimi ga ite, minna ga ite, tatta hitotsu no mono o sagashita, itsumademo...amai itami to tomo ni, mune no naka no tooi basho de..zutto..natsukashiku...mawaritsuzukerunda.." (Takemoto's last words, Hachikuro II eps 12)
I never thought the ending's going to be bitter sweet. The four leaf clover with honey chokes me up...
“Hagu-chan, I am glad I fell in love with you”, Yuta Takemoto! you're a man among men!~
Fave HnC characters:
1) Takemoto yuuta :- His dialogs are simple, yet very empowering, making me laugh, cry and think deep, to not be able to relate to this character is just unnatural :)
2) Hanamoto Shuji:- his selflessness and compassion is really under-appreciated by most people
i love this anime, story about yamada and mayama. i like they together. but why i dont understand why must love have to have a sadness?????? love is fun and stupid!!!!
Sigh...one of the best animes gone...I'll miss it so much! I loved all the characters and the music in it was beautiful! What a pure, yet strong message it sent to the audience! Beautiful!
I watched the episode, and at the very end where there were photographs with scenes of the show; what was the song that played with that? It's familiar, but I can't remember what it is. Please help!
i haven't been able to watch the series yet but i'm glad i've only read the episode summaries because i'm pretty sure i'll be crying when i get to watch it.
anyway, regarding the series, it was a wonderful and well-crafted story. (i could really relate to Yamada since i'm almost in the same situation as hers except that i'm not friends with the guy i liked so much. )
i was deeply saddened by the melancholic conclusion to the story since all my expectations crumbled to dust and went away with the wind...
i personally think that nomiya is very different from mayama. actually i didn't like mayama all too much since he kept running away from confrontations with ayu. and so he just made things harder for ayu since she kept thinking they still had a chance. i also think that ayu will soon be over mayama because her mind is already maturing with nomiya's help. i'm really touched by how much nomiya changed when he realized that he loves ayu. it feels just as precious as takemoto's love for hagu because it shows that it really brought great change in the person in the form of happiness and direction. i think that nomiya is great since he can still be happy despite the situation so i believe that he deserves ayu. and vice versa. this is only my opinion but i do think that you've never really liked the character of ayu. it really shows in all your reviews. it's only my opinion (myself being attached to the charfacter of ayu) that she's not getting enough credit. in fairness to her, she's actually not selfish since she even gives mayama advice and does not think ill of rika. well just my thoughts and food for the thoughts of others.=) sorry. i'm really not being rude. thanks for your dedication on this. i do agree with everyone that it's a great series. and i loved all characters, albet for different reasons.=)
this is the one anime i really like, and it really touch and made me dropped my tears....i love all the characters...i hope, it will have season 3 soon.....and if yes, i can wait for it.
Hi, knowing its a bit late for a comment, I would just like to say that H&C is one of the best Anime's out there!
It's just so sad that it ended that way. Being a big Morita fan, it really sucks to see him not end up with Hagu-chan. But atleast she still in love with the guy and he feels the same way too. ^_^ I really think that there's a huge chance that those two will really end up together...right? Who's with me?!
*sigh* Is there really no H&C season 3? T_T
I didn't really like the first season of Honey and Clover because I hated how childish Hagu was. But I watched the entire Season 2, and enjoyed it alot. I just finished the last episode just now, and was really touched by it. Bittersweet indeed, but wonderful. Thanks for the review. :)
I've been watching the anime on animax so it only finished around last week. I'm still tearing up everytime I think of it's ending. Personally, I didn't really like the way it ended. Don't know why though. It was a good ending but I still feel like something is horribly missing. Anyways, is there really going to a spinoff? Since I live in Singapore, we have so little info of all the animes. Damn it, I'm starting to tear up again...
Wow....!! X___X I have no other way to describe how I feel about this anime lol
To be honest, I've been reading your reviews for animes for a while now (I stumbled onto your site when I was reading Fruits Baskets a long while back).
But this anime... I just HAD to comment on it.
I LOVED this anime. BEYOND LOVED... I haven't watched such an inspiration anime in the LONGEST time. I haven't watched an anime that left such a BIG impact on me for as long as I could remember. It was beyond words could explain. After watching the first season... it kind of left me with an impression that nothing happened. Just as we entered the word of these "characters", we were just as quickly taken away and even though I developed a liking to a lot of them, it left me with A LOT of questions.
I'm so glad that hey created a second season for H&C. It was too good to be left empty handed with a resolution for the characters =)
To me, I know a lot of people enjoyed season 1 more, but season 2 for me was NECESSARY for me to APPRECIATE season 1 ^____^ so I thoroughly loved the second season more. I thought the story was so neatly organized and SO REALISTIC. I have never watched an anime that did NOT feature some sort of magic or supernatual event, so it was refreshing to watch something new.
My favourite character was hands down Takemoto. I related to everything he went through... not understanding yourself to the whole unrequited love situation. I felt like my heart went with him wherever he went. Even though a portion of the series is dedicated to the other characters, I was only really feeling Takemoto and Ayu. I don't know how to explain their situation as a whole, but individually, each little moment and situation they went though, I couldn't get enough and I felt so attached.
Anyways, my favourite moments of this series could not really be pinpointed. Since their change and development was so gradual, there is no ONE SCENE that I could pick that made me LOVE this anime. If anything, I thought the ending really tied everything over. It was gold... and up until those last 10 mins, I didn't feel the tears yet. But when Takemoto started talking about his house... and when Hagu appeared.... it was like suddenly ALL the tears came. My heart hurt and the ending was just so... sad and lonely. I understand why it happened... and if they made the ending cliche and "happy" (with Takemoto and Hagu ending up in love), I think I would've lost a lot of respect for the anime as well. I found it a shame that all the characters had to go on with their lives... but that's realism right?
Hmmmmm... anyways I feel like this comment is way too long now lol. I just loved the ending with the sandwich and clover. It was a classic... and I think this is one anime to be added to my never-to-forget list. There's no way that I can ever forget a life-inspiring series as this one ^^
