If you're looking for a new anime illustration for this series then I'm afraid you're out of luck. Unfortunately, there wasn't a single illustration for this series in the October issue of Japanese anime magazines such as Newtype or Animage. Judging from the exposures that other series receive, however, it does seem as if Genshiken is ignored in favour of other 'big' October titles such as Bleach or Gankutsuou. But since there are so many anime that will be released this upcoming season, it's understandable that the magazines can't cover each individudal series in great details. Anyway, back to Genshiken, I finally get to see the trailers on the official site and the series looks promising so far. The animation looks quite polished and the characters design look a lot like the ones in the manga version.

About the series
Kanji Sasahara is interested in joining an anime/manga/video game club at his university. However, upon seeing the sort of students who are involved in the club (geeks and nerds), he becomes hesitant because he doesn't want to be associated with that kind of people. Having said that, he reluctantly attempts to come to one of their meetings and gets to meet Kousaka Makoto, a neat and cool-looking student, who according to Kanji, doesn't have 'an otaku appearance'. Kanji soon learns to not judge people by their appearance because Kousaka proves himself to be as much as an otaku if not more so than Kanji. In fact, Kousaka loves anime/manga/video game so much that his wannabe girlfriend, Saki Kasukabe, is frustated with him. The series follow the sort of 'adventure' that the group goes through in order to satisfy their obsession for anime/manga/video game.
I am one of those people who enjoys character-interaction type of stories so it's not surprising that I like Genshiken despite the fact that most of its story are one-offs and sometimes unrelated to other stories within the series. I think despite subscribing to some anime fans stereotype, Genshiken manages to make the characters quite realistic and to my horror, actually covers the different gamut of anime/manga/video game fans from the obsessed to the mildly interested types. At the moment the anime will only be 13 episodes and considering that there are only 4 tankoubans for the series, I think the anime will be nicely paced. Tomokazu Seki (Kyou Sohma in Fruits Basket, Touji Suzuhara in Evangelion) will voice one of the characters in the series, Tanaka Souichirou. I think it'll be nice to hear him in a role that is quite different from his usual angst-ridden anime bishounen.
