I'm sorry that this one comes out really late but doing recap while in Japan turns out to be harder than I thought. To begin with, the internet connection at the college is not that good. Bittorrent and other P2P programs run a bit slower and often drops out when I try to download something. Oh well, at least I can still download them. At the same time, the course I'm taking turns out to be harder than I thought. It's only the first week and I'm struggling to keep up. If it continues to be like this, I'll have to put all the titles that I cover to impression only to save me some time. If you're waiting for other titles like Monster and Yakitate!! Japan, I hope you'll be a bit more patient with me.
Anyway, this episode itself begins with Mikan playing soccer with other Alice students. In the middle of the game, however, a kid uses his Alice to try to score a goal. Mikan, who's being the goal keeper tries to deflect the power by using her cancellation Alice. However, the ball ends up being floated to the sky and runs into the forrest area. While searching for the ball, Mikan almost runs into Mr.Bear. Mikan tries her best not to hide from the bear but unfortunately, all of a sudden, the soccerball that she was looking for lands on top of Mr.Bear's head then returns to her arms. Of course, the stuff animal thinks Mikan is the one who throws the ball and begins to pummell the living daylights out of poor Mikan.
Later on, while trying to recover from her bruises, Mikan spots a group of walking and talking stuff animals trying to carry a bucket of water. Upon seeing Mikan, one of the stuff animals asked for her help to carry the water because their master is in bad condition. Mikan agrees to help and in the process gets to know Sono Kaname, a student from B class. Not long after this, the two are joined by Tsubasa and the other Tokuryoku-kei members. Tsubasa asks if Kaname had just leave the hospital today and the guy confirms that he's on temporary leave for one week. Tsubasa then tells Mikan that Kaname is the one he talked about when he told her about a best friend whose Alice can make a soul dwells within a doll.

In addition to this, much to Mikan's horor, he is also Mr.Bear's creator. Despite this, everyone end ups talking to Kaname inside Mr.Bear's house. Upon hearing the horror story about Mr.Bear, Kaname asks Mikan's forgiveness for Mr.Bear's violent tendencies. Mr.Bear, on the other hand, doesn't look like he's about to befriend Mikan and the others anytime soon. Kaname then explains that Mr.Bear was the first moving doll he made. Since he didn't know his power well enough, the doll end up without the ability to talk. Having said that, he hopes that Mr.Bear and Mikan can be friends. Anyway, in the middle of the conversation, a group of high school girls comes into Mr.Bear's house bringing gifts for Kaname.
They tell the guy that they know he's back at the school because their dolls informed them that they were on their way to see their creators. Apparently Kaname had created those other talking dolls for these girls and they are highly appreciative of it. The girls also want to throw party to celebrate Kaname's return. Kaname agrees to this but for some reason Tsubasa doesn't look happy about it but Kaname quietly asks him not to say it in front of the others. So Tsubasa ends up saying that they don't have water in the house. When Mikan sees Tsubasa looking upset, she decides to ask him if Kaname is suffering from some kind of sickness. Because of this, Tsubasa tells his kouhai that Kaname suffers from the effect of using his Alice.
He reminds her that one of the Alice types is one that can produce harm to its user. And Kaname's Alice falls into this category. Everytime Kaname uses his Alice, he effectively shortens his own life. It doesn't help that Kaname's body wasn't that healthy to begin with. Upon hearing this, Mikan wants to ask Kaname from using his power any further but Tsubasa tells her that she can't do it. He tells her that it's a situation that no one understand so she'd be better off staying away from it. The situation, however, makes Mikan restless and she accidentally swats Natsume's hair with a duster while thinking about it. Strangely Natsume is not angry at her and simply leaves her without saying a single word.

Mikan is weirded out by this but then she remembers what Tsubasa said about the kind of Alice that harms its user and wonders if Natsume has the same harmful type of Alice. Natsume, on the other hand, is more concerned with Persona's threat from the previous episode and tries to stay away from everyone. That night, Kaname is seen busy trying to create a new doll. It is obvious, however, that this causes a lot of strain on his health. Tsubasa then enters his room to scold his friend for not going to bed already. Tsubasa tells his friend that he should put a little bit more attention to himself. Because of this, Kaname has no choice but to go back to his bed. After Tsubasa leaves the room, however, Kaname continues to sew the doll in the darkness.
The next day, Mikan complains to Hotaru that she doesn't understand why Kaname will continue to jeopardise his own life and why Tsubasa won't say a word to his friend about it. She becomes even more disturbed when she sees one of the high school girls happily shows her new doll that was just made by Kaname. Mikan decides to confront Kaname but ends up being asked if she wants him to make a doll for her. Mikan flat out refuses and asks Kaname to stop making the dolls. Kaname is grateful that Mikan worries about him but decides to tell a story of the first time he made Mr.Bear. He remembers how he can't played with his two friends because of his sickness. On top of this, his parents were always at work so he's always home alone.
Because Kaname wants some kind of a friend, he ended up creating Mr.Bear. When he touched Mr.Bear's nose and tells him that he's his precious friend, Mr.Bear suddenly came to live and began to hug Kaname. Ever since then he feels nothing but a sense of gratitude for his Alice ability. Because of this, he wants to continue using his Alice to make other people happy. Back to the present Mikan goes back with a rather depressed Tsubasa who tells her that surely by now she understands that Kaname will continue using his Alice. Even if that means he will sacrifice some parts of his life. Having said that, Tsubasa understands this somehow and he believes Mikan understands Kaname as well.

Later on that night, Mikan's friend meet one another to talk about a restless soul they've been seeing lately. Even Ruka admits of seeing it at around 11 at night. Because of this, they decide to send someone else to confirm the existence of this restless soul/ghost and they decide to send Mikan. Mikan doesn't waste time crying and complaining that she is afraid of ghost but nevertheless, she gets dragged kicking and screaming by Hotaru. They eventually spots the so-called 'ghost' and it turns out that it simply is Mr.Bear carrying some kind of lantern. After following it, they realised that Mr.Bear is the one who's been placing a flower in front of Kaname's window.
This time, however, Kaname catches him in the act and tells the bear that he knew it'll come again today and that it was the one who put the flowers with the stepladder. The stuffed animal then sweetly gives the flowers to Kaname. Upon receiving the flowers, Kaname tells the doll that tomorrow he has to go back to the hospital even though it's earlier than he planned. He is kind of worried because then Mr.Bear will be all alone again even though he promised it that they will always be together. This makes Mikan wonder if there is someone who worries and cares about her well-being from the sky up there. Anyway, the episode ends with Kaname leaving the school and Mikan offering herself to take care of Mr.Bear. Of course, that last one didn't end well.
Impression:
Well, that was as much as I can say without having tears in my eyes. I hate it when an anime manages to do something like this to me. But at the same time, it is the very same reason why I watched anime to begin with. So far the anime has been rather good so if the rumour about the series being greenlighted for another 52 episodes is true, then I hope they maintain the quality of the last 2-3 episodes. But if that turns out to be just a rumour, then I do wonder how the animators are going to complete the series. I think the anime will be fine if it just covers the Iinchou part of the Z arc but the problem is, the Iinchou part of the story directly leads into Hotaru's part of the story. And once that happens, I doubt the writers can end the series at episode 26.
Note: Gakuen Alice turned out to be a 26 episode series not 52. At the moment I have no interest in blogging the rest of the episode although that may change in the future.
gosh finally. ;)
But thanks for continuing anyway. I for one will wait.
This episode sounds really sweet! Again, it brings out the darkness in GA.
Don't worry about it. As a college student myself, I know how tough it can be.
I really liked this episode. I had a lump in my throat the entire time I was watching it and cried a little at certain parts. ^^;
Yay...it finally came again! ^^ Thank you Garten-san! ^^
No worries desu, we have patience ^^ I do at least ^^
Plz do keep up the good work, and try not to get too stress out neh? ^^
I was waiting for this for soooo long. ^o^ I think I understood it well enough, but the summary helps confirm my theory, which I'm totally happy for. ^^ Thanks again for the awesome summary.
Hi! Don't mind if I ask, but where do you get your downloads of Gakuen Alice from? After reading your blog, I was very interested in GA, but I couldn't find any of them after episode err 6. Please help. Thanks! :)
Actually, as annoying as it may be, I, too, would like to know where YOU get your GakuAri from - anime-suki only has up to episode six (and I know this as I've decided to bite the bullet and download all of the episodes through bittorrent after all...).
After reading book seven (and the few chapters afterwards...), I'm really concerned for Natsume-kun.
Next chapter comes out tomorrow =^o^=
By the way: I'll be living in Nabari-shi, Mie-fu/ken!! I found out a few days ago =^.^=
Garten-sama, if you have some money, go to 'Popeye Media Cafe' and download stuff that way. When I was last there, you could access 'My Documents', so having a USB flash drive or something can help out there ^.~
I can't wait to go to Japan!!! =^___________^=
Seventeen days, and counting...
Tsukinoko ^.~*
I somehow understood why you only wrote episode 22 just now, because you're now a week (i.e. an episode) late.
*spoiler starts* Episode 23, the circus thing, signals the return of the dreaded Leo.And Ruka's been hypnotized. You should've seen the preview for Episode 24. *spoiler ends*
I got the raw torrent from www.tokyotosho.com as usual. Good luck with trying to get it though. Getting this episode was more like pulling a teeth. On some days, there is no seeder whatsoever. It doesn't help that my internet connection is kind of crappy. I'd love to go to an internet cafe but I'd like to conserve my money for sightseeing trips so wasting money just to download an episode when I can do it for free (albeit with a lot of pain) is rather out of the questions at the moment.
Another alternative is to download the bittorrent files here:http://tracker.manga-ton1x.net/torrents.php?active=1&page=0. You may have to browse through the pages a bit to find the Gakuen Alice bittorrent files. They only have the lastest episodes though.
Thanks for your effort, Garten. I will wait all the necessary to read your greats reviews of Monster again. ;)
Yeah this episode made me cry too, what irony. I love Mr. Bear even more now, he's so adorable. I hope he and Mikan become friends, but it never get's old seeing Mikan flying through the air, lol. I wonder what illness it is that he has. I think in some Gakuen Alice forum someone mentioned Cancer? Well I don't know, n e wayz, great review. (Tsubasa is so cute when he's in angst -^_^-). I just hope to see more love triangle interaction and I can't wait to here the voices of the ppl in the Z arc, especially "that person".
it was a real sweet episode, but i dont see how this episode is going to further conclude the series with only a couple shows left.
thanx for taking time out of ur busy-ness to summarize, thank you!!
GA has been extended to 52 episodes.
YES! 52!! Yay!!!
Though now it'll be a while for the series to finish....but still, whoot!!
Yes!!! they extended it!!! This ep. is so sweet ^__^. I'm currently downloading it. but I have ep. 23. haha. I have eps. 1-6 and i'm missing eps. 7-21 haha. Thanks for the summary ^__^.
hey, is there a site where u can download gakuen alice ep. without using bittorrent?
Hehe cute episode. Amy, you can download it on mirc. Garten-sama, i hope you do well in japan :)
inutikidude, you don't have to use 'sama' when addressing someone of the same stature as you are. You make it sound as if I'm Your Majesty or something. In fact, I don't usually bother addressing someone with 'san' (you used to someone you respect or don't know very well) or 'kun' (to call a close friend) honorific unless the person is:
1. A Japanese person
2. A classmate from a Japanese class and we both are practicing our Japanese with one another.
inutikidude, u could only dl up to ep 6 on irc ...can u also download the rest on irc too?
gah! *beams* thanks for the summary. it's silly how i'm so in love with a series even though i haven't seen it yet. =P
i guess you could say it's something like living vicariously thru your summaries. haha.
omg 52...i'm happy..but at the same time...i'm dying b/c i can't read anymore after volume 5 since i donno where to get it...
the translation group seemed to have sped up a bit...just got eps 7 last nite ^^ YAY
Does anyone know where to get GA manga off the internet? I've been googling for volume 6 and had no sucess
so the anime isn't stopping at 26?...
If they truly extended it that is great news.
Unfortunatly, at the current pace of once a month, the subbers would literally take 3.75 years to finish. I hope they speed it up a little. And it seems all the raws except the latest ones are not seeded. :(
I am a BIG gakuen alice fan. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find gakuen alice episodes 8+ subbed?
You won't find 8+subbed episodes because the group that's subbing it hasn't subbed it yet.
then where can u find the raw of this anime?
You can find the raw at www.tokyotosho.com
i really like GA--like everyone else in here*wink*--but i am really tormented by this...not only most GA's BT are like unseeded n there's only volume 5 manga dl available but there's NO fanfiction about GA!! ARGH...being an active supporter of FN.Net i really couldn't live without english fanfiction(can't read japanese but trying...) n can't believe i actually write a fiction about GA in desperation...i want more GA..
you guys are lucky that you could watch GA on the tv or even buy it in your bookstores...here in my country we're like deprived of manga...i mean most of my friends don't even know what manga is!! sigh...at least there's ppl like you guys n or course Garten who work so hard for this page...really grateful...arigato!!
oh yeah, good luck on getting the raws...i know it's very frustrating..hehe
actually, Jayhun, there is some GA fanfiction on the net. go to fanfiction.net, click on anime, and go into the Misc. section. there isn't a lot, but there's at least a little, and most of the fanfics there have labels as to what anime they belong to. you could also try the GA communities on livejournal, they're pretty active.
anyway, I've been coming to this site for a while and this is my first time posting.
just wanted to say thanks to Garten for the summaries, you do a really great job, and don't kill yourself at school

GA has been extended to 52 episodes.
I am seriously wondering if this news is true, if so where's the page that says so?
Cos according to NHK website, they are stopping at ep26, with the noted in the scheduling on the 14th of May 2005.
another blog says they are reaching climax points for 25 like parent info and such of Mikan. So maybe only 26 >.
hey guys i have here a web site with the 16 to 26 episodes in avi ^^ here the web >----
http://www.emugle.com/search.php?q=GAKUEN+ALICE
you can watch GA @youtube.com just search for the anime/shows you guys desire 2 watch on the search bar...=) no need for bittorent.
aww! This hurts---- just to know that I can't even read about the next episode considering this summary is so good, accurate, and very very accuratly good! LOL. well, I started reading your synopsis from ep. 17, and I got so hooked that it hurts me to find that I can't get the ending of this anime. I just hope your having fun in doing synopsis!
I salut you!
WOW!! your so far in GA!!! O_O hi! i'm new to this site and i'm a Dehkai (BIG)! fan of Gakuen Alice!!! But where do you downlaod it from :'(
i finshed all the anime episodes and i just started on the manga, and i found some things in them. for anyone who wants to know about mikan's parents
~*spoiler starts*~:
mikan's parent, the mom, (sorry, only know the chinese, not japanese!) has an alice that can steal other people's alices. the dad died trying to achieve his dream of changing GA. he had the cancellation alice that was inheirited by mikan. mikan's dad was a teacher for GA and her mom was a student of his. they fell in love... then you should know what happened. narumi sensai was a kouhai/junior of the mother and liked her. when narumi proposed to her and used his alice, the mother stole some of his alice and his emotions of love as well. that's why he's so determined to find her. the mother left GA after the father died to continue his dream. about the Reo/ Leo talking about 'that woman' is because mikan's mom became part of their anti GA group called 'Zero'.in the manga she stole lots of alices from GA students (including Iincho's)and hit hotaru with a bullet with some kind of virus. mikan, luka, natsume, tsubasa enter another dimension with the help of other sempais to capture the zero people. mikan doesn't know about her mom yet, but natsume knows from eavsdropping on a converstion of teachers. they finally get the method to hotaru's sickness. after mikan's mom talks to narumi, she gives all the alices of the students (not narumi) back and leaves.
~*Spoiler ends*~
only comment on my own spoiler: whew, that was one long spoiler!!
Hey!!! OMG!!! I got sooo hooked w/ this site! thanks for all the summaries! I don't think I really need to watch the episodes anymore though! :P! Keep it up! Great Job!
~*(Maybe a) Spoiler starts*~
What happened to Hotaru after getting hit by the virus... she got fever or something?! O.o
~*End*~
Somebody please tell me about episode 26!!!
Wow! This site really helped a lot! Keep up the excellent work, Garten..! Aw, I can't wait! *sigh* I'm so sad... You see, my connection is only a dial-up so I can't download those raws. *cries* Waah...! I'll just try to find a decent Internet Cafe in Cabanatuan or somewhere so I can download it... I'll do anything for GA!
And al, thanks... That enlightened me a lot. You see, here where I live (heck even in Manila, I'd still have a hard time looking for GA mangas), mangas are real rare. It's like... If you possess one, you're like some rich kid or something. My friends are all innocent about mangas. When they see a manga, they refer to it as a comic book. *sigh* So, this site and all the other contributions of the people who leave comments are real appreciated. I'm so grateful. Thank you guys...
Anyway...
*spoiler starts (is this even a spoiler? ah... to be on the safe side*
I understand that in the manga there were three people who kissed Mikan: Iinchou, Ruka, and finally, Natsume. Is this true? I think I've read it somewhere (probably in the GA Community in livejournal.com) but it's not really confirmed so can anyone confirm it for me?
*spoiler ends*
GA just recently became my favorite anime (which replaced Ayashi no Ceres) this April 2006 so you're all way advanced into it compared to me (I blame my country's business industry and all the channel networks here for that). Can anyone state some variations between the manga and the series? It's be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what episode is a filler or what episode is based on the manga so again, thank you Garten and you guys.
Don't leave GA behind please! I'll wait... n_n
mikan.. where in livejournal???

*spoiler starts*
episode 23-25 is about the circus thing and its also when ruka gets controlled by rio, in episode 24 natsume gets sick and calls mikans name while holding her hand! SO SWEET!
*spoiler ends*
Hm, I just finished reading all of the chapters till 67(was it?)
~*~*~*~Spoilers~*~*~*~*
So, Natsume wasn't the one who burned his village, but it was Aoi-chan (his sister) and she was apperantly controled by Persona, who till this day controls her by making her blind and forgetting her memories. Now then, Mikan is dying and Natsume's freaking out because it was his fault (Persona was about to hit Natsume with his Death Alice but Mikan jumped head on, and made Persona drop his mask releasing his powers to it's full extent. Seeing how they're in a place that reduces their power in half, Mikan's mukoka alice and the death alice full extent = dead Mikan) I wonder though, why didn't they just kick Persona's balls and ran with Aoi as fast as they could? D: Stupid idiots. Gotta make it fiery and hectic. And poor Mikan! Don't die! We wuvs you little heroine girl ;;
So anyone wanna answer?
hey, i was just reading through all the comments. Naisho is a fansub for gakuen alice. i came across the website when i searched for gakuen alice in google so i have no idea why so many ppl cant find it.
you're asking why people can't find it?? coz naisho only has so far subbed GA until 16. 17 & 18 were subbed by ADTW.. i'm grateful of all the hard work but.. it's just taking too long!! by that time, i'd have flew to japan..
