I'm sorry for the late recap but I had to finish a design job and didn't have the time to complete this until a couple of hours ago. I am also a bit disappointed with this episode. I think that overall this is not as funny as the manga version. Anyway, it looks like next week's episode will be the dance party chapter. Everyone looks good in the preview and I hope that episode will be better than this one, and especially last week's episode. With 7 more episodes to go, I also wonder how the anime writers intend to wrap up this series. I think the only way the series can have a satisfying conclusion is if it actually jumps a little bit plot-wise, and uses the plot from the start of volume 6 of the manga involving Iinchou.
The episode begins with Natsume and Ruka sitting on a rooftop watching the night stars. Ruka looks as if he's about to ask something to Natsume but at the last minute decides to cancel his question. The next morning, Ruka is seen trying to stop his friends from following him like a bunch of groupie. It soon becomes obvious that the reason Ruka doesn't want anyone to follow him is because he's embarassed about his role as Snow White in Taishitsu-kei's theatrical performance. Unfortunately for Ruka, those pesky friends of his manage to find out his dressing room and take a look at him in his full Snow White costume (the Disney version). Ruka becomes even more embarassed when some of his friends say that he looks like a real girl in that dress.
It also doesn't help that Hotaru keeps taking picture of him in the dress. Ruka finally can't take it anymore and proceeds to give Hotaru a chase. While the two have their usual fun, Narumi takes the rest of the group to see the entire backlot. Narumi explains to the group that the play is basically a combination of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Before he can say anything further, however, he is interrupted by a bunch of squealling fangirls who's in the middle of worshipping someone who is about to play the Prince. Narumi, however, explains that the truth is, the person who's about to play the Prince is a girl called Yuri. They picked her because her Alice is a pheromone which is capable of attracting girls. The Alice, however, doesn't seem to work on Mikan because she has her cancellation Alice.
Narumi then shows Mikan the packed auditorium and tells her that Ruka's animal pheromone and Yuri-chan's female pheromone help to attract those audiences. Mikan then asks Narumi if Ruka was selected to become Snow White because of his ability to attract the audiences. Narumi unabashedly confirms her guess. 0_0 Isn't this some kind of misuse of the students' Alice? Meanwhile, Kokoroyomi-kun is in the middle of showing his friend some kind of sticky balls that he got from Gijutsukei store. At the same time, Ruka appears on the scene chasing after Hotaru, trying to get the camera she was using to snap his pictures. Hotaru, who's not paying attention to the people in front of her accidentally hit Kokoroyomi-kun, causing him to lose grip of the sticky balls.
The balls are then propelled on top of the performers' head due to the wind that comes from a big fan and immediately unleashes its sticky effect on the victims. BTW, is it just me or does Mikan's cancellation Alice saved her from getting the effect as well? It seems to me that she's within the range of the balls and yet she's not affected by it whatsoever. Does this means that her cancellation Alice can nullify an object as well? Anyway, with almost everyone glued to each other, it becomes obvious that some alterations need to happen in order for the play to go on. Because of this, when Natsume appears stucked to a little kid who's supposed to play one of the 7 Dwarves, Narumi asks if Natsume can play the role of a forest cat so that he doesn't stick out like a sore thumb during the play.
Natsume refuses right away, asking why he should help Narumi. Upon hearing this, Narumi tells the kid that he has no choice but to cut down the number of Dwarves from 7 to 6 since the kid is stucked to Natsume. When he sees the kid looking sad, Natsume seems to change his mind. Nevertheless, he decides to leave the area without saying a word to Narumi or Mikan. Not long after this, however, he returns to the backlot wearing a cat costume. Mikan and the other girls immediately squee over his cute appearance. But Natsume quickly shows Mikan that a boy does not appreciate being called 'cute'. He also gets his revenge by telling Narumi that Mikan will make a good Prince. At first Mikan is uncomfortable about the role but Hotaru then comes and assures her that she can do it.
Ruka then comes into the dressing room and immediately becomes tongue-tied again upon seeing Mikan. Mikan tells Ruka that she doesn't have experience in acting nor is she ready for this but Taishitsu-kei and everyone else has done their best and she doesn't want to ruin it. Because of this, she asks for Ruka's guidance. Ruka tells her that all they have to do is to just do their best. The play then begins with the usual "Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess in a faraway kingdom. However, when the Princess was born, an evil witch came and gave her a sleeping curse". But since this is a messed up version of Sleeping Beauty tale, the Sleeping Beauty in this version is actually more like a Sleepy Beauty (ie. she likes to sleep). And oh, Sumire gets to play the role.
Sumire starts her role by complaining that she can't find any good boys around but then all of her sudden her cat/dog Alice is activated. Sumire then immediately jumps into the audiences seat and begins to threaten a boy, telling him that she knows he secretly brings some food with him. Mikan is surprised to see Sumire and wonders how she gets involved in the play. Ruka explains that it's all because Narumi-sensei told Sumire that no one else can play the role but her. Finally, it's Mikan and Ruka's turn on the stage. The narrator informs the audience how by fate Snow White gets to meet the Prince. Mikan seems to be a bit nervous in delivering her lines. It doesn't help that the audiences seem to be disappointed that Yuri is not the one who plays the role of the prince.
Later on Mikan tells Ruka that as she expected, she's not good at all. Ruka, however, tells her that she did a good job. Ruka's encouragement makes Mikan happy again and the two begin to laugh together. They, however, don't realise that their conversation is observed by one unhappy Natsume. The weird play then continues by short appearance by Neko-Natsume, followed by a singing and dancing Ruka and his animal friends. I have to say that the singing on this scene was attrocious. Meanwhile Sleepy Beauty is fuming because the Prince prefers Snow White than her. So she goes to her mirror and asks who's the most beautiful girl of them all. When the mirror, aka Kokoroyomi-kun, tells her that it's definitely not her, Sleepy Beauty lost it and swears revenge on Snow White.
Because of this, Sleepy Beauty sends a hunter to find Snow White. Snow White ends up being terrified of the hunter but not because of his murderous intention but more because he threatens to kiss her. When Snow White asks the hunter who sent him, all of a sudden evil Sleepy Beauty appears and tells Snow White that the hunter is her subordinate. Sleepy Beauty then laughs like a maniac and informs Snow White that she will die now. Upon saying this, Sleepy Beauty throws a "Super poisonous-bite Apple" at Snow White. The Apple manages to bite Snow White's neck, instantly killing the Princess. The Prince then arrives and tries to awaken Snow White but is surprised when he sees evil Sleepy Beauty standing next to him. Mikan quickly goes out of character and asks Sumire what is she doing here.
Sumire points to a guy flashing a note saying from now on, everyone must ad-lib their own scenario. Mikan is shocked about this and even more so when Sumire suddenly bares her fangs and claws and launches herself to attack Mikan. So the two then ends up in a deadly duel with each other. All of a sudden, however, someone flings a bone to Sumire. Sumire who's still in her cat/dog state ends up chasing after the bone. The Prince continues his attempt to wake up Snow White by kissing her. Mikan is embarassed about this but she has no choice but to kiss Ruka. However, just when she is about to kiss the boy, an apple hits her head, stopping the kiss. The stage then suddenly goes pitch-black. It seems Hotaru was the one who turned off the light and Natsume was the one who threw the apple.
Impression:
I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed with this episode. I think the plot execution is funnier in the manga. I blame this on the lack of over-the-top reaction from Mikan and her friends. In the manga, Kokoroyomi, Hotaru, Nonoka, and the others always look silly everytime they are surprised about something. For example, when they found out that Sumire gets to play Sleeping/Sleepy Beauty, their expression was priceless. Unfortunately there is no such reaction in this episode. I also miss the part where Mikan is pressured by his peers to accept the role of the Prince. In this anime, she just resigns to her fate so easily. Oh well, at least the character development is still there. It's obvious by now that Natsume clearly wants to be able to have the same kind of friendship with Mikan that Ruka has with her. He, however, has to try harder if he wants to catch up with them.
Yay! It's out! Number 19 =^.^= Yes, it seems somewhat different from the book, but maybe it's picking up more story now.

I'm starting to see the natsume-mikan-ruka triangle now, i must say. they're so cute!
Is it just me or does the relationship between Ruka and Mikan seem to be incredibly overdone and exaggerated in the anime? It's seems to be forced and it's definitely not as cute as in the manga .... and not only that, but Natsume seems like such a flat character ~_~
It seems anime prefer develop mikan+rukan relationship than mikan+natsume
As a side-note, mainly to Garten, not regarding this episode ;o... things are really going to start hitting the volume 6 seriousness in the next few episodes. You should be able to tell for the future episode titles:
Episode 20: Who will your last dance be with? (ends school festival arc)
Episode 21: Aim for the Best Student Award! (!! You should know what'll happen here)
Episode 22: Mr. Bear and the Prince (bear history story like that one chapter at the end of v5 iirc)
My main point is episode 21. I guess they'll continue with that starting episode 23 and go straight to episode 26 that way.
We get to see Mikan with her hair down! So pretty, too bad she doesn't leave it down more often. It's seriously cute, and Natsumi makes such a hot kitty. =3 Especially when he said "Meow". X3
Nya...hopefully there will be more Natsume/Mikan action in the next episode. ^^

N e wayz, I don't think they are forcing the relationship that hard (the RukaXMikan) because in the manga they make him blush a lot more (I.e. in the haunted house episode, he didn't blush when Mikan clang to him, but in the manga yes.). But, it makes me sad that they're currently focused on the MikanXRuka then MikanXNatsume (at least we get to see how Natsume feels about it. It's still sad though, but on account of his personality, it's his own fault.).
I hope in the next episode they make Natsume and Mikan dance together (in the video game, they show a screen shot of them dancing, which didn't happen, but I would of loved to see). Speaking of loving to see, I can't wait until they show the *special candy* (if you know what I mean ~-^) episode (probably episode 21 like Dragosmore said). I agree Mikan looks so cute with her hair down than up; she should switch it up a bit. As a final word...well sentence, lol, I just hope they don't leave out any good scenes or decreased reactions. (Btw, what is Sumire's nickname again, and why do they call her that?)
as disapointed as everyone seems, i still liked this episode. it was one of those cute little shoujo eps, that i liked. but i dont know, i never read the manga, so mayb i just dont have nnething to compare it too :P.
the only thing i didnt really like was the kiss, and as much as we all luv to see Natsume jealous, it just seems so out of character for Mikan. Why couldn't Ruka just wake up?!!

Ok. Sumire is called 'Paama' (from the 'perm' in her hair) by Mikan-chan. As a side note, so does Natsume-kun. It seems that when Mikan-chan 're-names' a person, Natsume-kun catches on and uses the same name, lol [of course, not always, no 'Ruka-pyon', just plain old 'Ruka'])
The whole kiss thing, in the manga at least, was forced on by Narumi-sensei. He felt the whole play had become 'boring' and wanted to spice a few things up a bit. Of course, in doing so, he dug his own grave of which Natsume-kun and Hotaru-chan would gladly help to fill.
As for episode 21 containing the 'special candy', well, how could that happen during the 'aim for the best student award', when that means that the events leading UP to the 'special candies' haven't even HAPPENED yet?
I think they're going to have a few problems trying to get it all done over the next seven episodes, especially since book seven has only JUST come out.
Actually, can anyone who reads the HanaYume monthly magazine confirm an eighth book?
As for the relationships, I'm not even going there, as I have my own opinions and don't want to seem like a screaming fan girl (no offense to those who don't mind that). Of course, I'm for Natsume x Mikan and Ruka x Hotaru (and maybe some others, like Tsubasa x Misaki...)

i do think there will be an eighth book. i actually have scans of chapters till 42. i also know chapter 43 was released but i couldn't download it.
chapter 41 and 42 were very exciting especially chapter 42 with a whole lot of mikan and natsume interaction. since i don't understand chinese i don't know what exactly is going on but its still intense.

natsume was in danger to have his powers taken/ more like he was willing to let it be taken, i think, i am not sure. but mikan stopped her mom from taking it by cancelling her alice. i am not sure of this as well.
but natsume tried to protect mikan in several occasions and mikan does the same.
it seemed as if when it comes to natsume her alice power works very well. or maybe it just let me believe so, since i can't completely understand whats going on. but i love natsume, mikan pairing, i think we will see their interaction in volume 7.

Now THAT is one hell of a spoiler. 'Mikan-chan's mother'... you mean that lady WAS her mother? Actually, I hadn't even gotten that far into thinking through the possible relationship between Mikan-chan and the one who stole Iinchou's Alice...
Although when you say that Natsume-kun was willing to have his Alice taken away from him, that makes absolute sense.

And he hates being a tool that, if it doesn't cooperate, would have its most precious things taken away from him. I mean, he's already lost a town, his family and maybe even his sister...
I am in NO WAY surprised that he'd be willing to have it 'stolen' from him.
But when you start to say '...by Mikan-chan's mother...', my head starts to spin... I need to know! Does this happen in book seven or in 'the-book-eight-we-must-wait-four-to-five-months-for'???!?

CH 41
In chapter 40 mikan gets seperated from natsume and co. and is trapped in a dungeon. so there is this evilguy with glasses(i am not sure who he is). mikan's mom and her light haired friend takes orders from this guy. so this evil guy orders mikan's mom to steal mikan's alice or maybe she volunteered (i am not sure). On her way to the cage that mikan is in she recalls some stuff about her past when she was in school i guess. she remembers this guy, and then we see her crying in the rain and the same guy comes again, and then we see her running with Mikan in her arms. I am not sure who the guy is we don't get to see his face. but i do't think he looks like Narumi sensei.
After all of that she reaches the cell and Mikan immediately recognizes that she was the one that she met when she was with Hotaru and when Hotaru got hurt. Mikan yells at her mom telling her that hotaru is hurt because of her and her company. Mikan's mom realizes that there is camera in the room and slaps mikan away. Then she pretends to steal her alice, and when doing so leaves a small bottle with the name ZERO on it. i am guess thats where they get the Z-group from. I am not sure what the bottle can do but probably give people their alice back is my guess.
After mikan's mom leaves, mikan escapes from the cage and meets up with natsume and co. While all of this is happening, Natsume and co are confronted by Mikan's mom friend. when he sees Mikan coming he orders some guy to get behind her and seize her. but Natsume saves her and beats her on the head and probably tells her not to be careless. then the guy keeps attacking Natsume and Mikan, and Mikan tells Natsume that she is protected from the pendent Tono-senpai gave her so he does not need to worry (i am not sure but thats what it looks like) Natsume is suprised, then the guy attacks Ruka and Natsume moves away from Mikan and tries to go to Ruka but the guy gets behind Mikan, and takes her to the evilguy. I am not sure what sort of alice the evilguy has but he freezes Tsubasa's leg.
CH 42
This is one intense chapter. especailly when it comes to Mikan and Natsume interaction. The evilguy is now holding Mikan's arm and continues to attack make Natsume and co angry. The evilguy once again tries to attack Tsubasa but Ruka gets in the way and moves Tsubasa away and gets hit on the shoulder. then the evilguy attacks Natsume's hand and continues attacking him which was the last straw for Mikan and she latches the evilguy's face and cancels his alice and now she is holding on to him.
The evilguy unable to use his alice asks mikan's mom to steal Natsume's alice. While Mikan continues to proably telling to run away. Natsume seems like he is willing to have his alice taken, but at the last minute he recalls something Mikan says and moves away, but Mikan's mom catches Natsume's hand and tries to steal his alice. Then Mikan emits this huge light that cancells her mother's alice. with both the evilguy and her mother suprised, Natsume tells Mikan to get away and she does, as he blows up stuff behind her and the evilguy. Mikan's mother friend takes mikan to safety where Tsubasa and Ruka are. I think he has some sort of teleportation alice. Now the evilguy is wondering what is going on but before he could do anything, Mikan's mom gets behind him and stabs him with a knife. then she goes to Natsume and gives her the blood of that evilguy telling him probably that it can heal their frozen hands and legs. Natsume does so and ruka is alright now. i am not sure about this. Then Mikan's mom and her friend both leave, with one last glace at Mikan(just her mom). then the whole place is falling apart and they need to get out of there. But Mikan drops the zero bottle and it gets stuck in a very narrow place that Mikan can't reach. Mikan tells the co, that that woman gave it to her and that probably can save Hotaru.
CH 43
Hotaru's little robot gets the bottle from the small place and the whole place is collapsing and Mikan once again falls as the ground crumbles, but Tsubasa grabs her, but the little robot falls in deeper and as Mikan tries to save him. but the robot loses its grip and falls. Mikan and co get of there and come to a forest that they were in before. Mikan is devastated and Tsubasa consoles her as Ruka and Natsume have some memories of the robot. Then they are all brought back to the high school division where Tono-senpai, Hotaru's brother and the guy at the end of volume 6, the handsome guy that we have seen in volume 4. Mikan gives the zero bottle to Hotaru's brother, which he takes to Hotaru. then we see Narumi-sensei going somewhere or something. probably to find Mikan's mom. who knows. Most of the chapters have hotaru lying on the bed and sensing Mikan in danger and stuff.

It's so annoying, it takes like a million years for the pictures to load (and I have high speed internet). At most, each page will load a few and some half way. Damn, I'm sorry, I wasn't counting on posting this much. I don't like to post more than a few times, lol, gomen-nasai ^_^U (Hopefully it's not considered spammin in any way, because it is Gakuen Alice related; I just need some help. Lol, and be thankful I'm not asking "where can I find raws, where can I find raw episodes, and blablablabla"" he-he.)
xD I just watched the episode this morning, and it was great. Next week's episode looks amusing too (especially how the Natsume/Mikan pairing has sucked me in).

Oh yeah, the books came today, oh yeah, they came today... and not a day too soon! As it's Easter, the post office isn't open again until next Tuesday, and I'm moving on Sunday, so that wasn't going to work out (well, I would have gotten the EVENTUALLY...)
Anyways, episode 20 is looking interesting, and this book rules. I haven't finished yet, but it rocks.

Finally looked at chapters 35-43 ^_^U (I struggled at first, but finaaly accomplished it). Would those be considered Volume 07? (is n e thing passed that available on that site? I looked and didn't see, or maybe I'm just dumb).
Book seven is chapters 35 ~ 40 (and no more! kyaaaaaaaaaaaa! iyaaaaaaaaaaa!! )

It's about the love triangle. Natsume, Mikan, and Ruka. I think it came out really good, I thought I was done, but I'm trying to make it better ^_^. I hope everyone likes it once it's done.
Natsume's jealous.................this is gonna be good. The triangle has formed and Mikan will have to choose either animal-lover-boy or bad-boy if she has romantic feelings for one of them, which I bet she does.
i hope she will choose the "bad--boy". of course, i like Ruka as well, but the Mikan/Natsume pairing is ROCKS A LOT!!!
That was a nice chapter. ^_^ I haven't watched 16-18 yet, but it's nice to read this thing. Hotaru seems to like Ruka. lol. And yes I agree that there is a triangle around here (Natsume - Mikan - Ruka). I don't want them to get in love with each other! I prefer them being the bestest friends ever. For me it will be better... hehe
I really love Gakuen Alice. Can someone please tell me where can I read Gakuen Alice Manga chapter 45 and UP? Please!!! I really love Natsume and Ruka! I wonder who will Mikan pick?
i did like this episode a lot but somehow i felt it was way better in the manga
i love gakuen alice and am dying waiting for the second season to come.....
some say the second season is already being aired while some otheres say that the second season is just a rumour which is yet to confirmed by the author and the production companies
there is something supicious why did hotaru turn off the lights i think she was not comfortable seeing ruka and mikan kiss
