I read the spoilers on Wikipedia, so yes "I do know what you mean..." And since I'm a big Saber fan, she will always be number one on my list. As for the rest... they don't really matter to me...

I agree with your rankings in that you put rin and archer on top, Saber just hasn't shown enough personality thus far to be number 1

1) Rin - she's too cool & hawt & nice in her mini-skirt

2) Shirou - sue me, but I kinda like the spineless ones

3) Rider - I love pink hair & her baazomas

4) Archer - this guy in endowed in mistery but way cool

5) Saber - not very bright so far, but I expect a lot

6) Ilya - in the last ep was sooo cute

7) Lancer - he's shady, but I like the outfit

8) Fuji-nee - energetic, at least

9) Sakura - I like her more after I've seen the H-pics,and I love blue hair ^_^

10) Assassin - cool, but a little too Sephiroth-ish

Despite what people think, Shirou can actually be really cool, and I don't just mean that particular spoiler. That being said, I don't know if the anime will go into the paths from the game where he really shines.
I'm not too surprised that Karen beat out Bazette since she has an H scene and wears no pants, lol.

The poll is based off of fate stay and hollow, not the animated series, for people whos going this and that.

Just like you, my favorite characters are Archer and Rin.
The rest is not that...likable to me.

I can think of ten reasons why Shirou's dropped out of the Top Ten... namely, ten episodes of Shirou being an absolute idiot. He isn't just stumbling right now - he's flat-out doing his best to get killed off and make everyone hate him, or at least shake their heads at his thick-skulled naivete.

If it wasn't for the fact that Rin and maybe Ilya liked him, he'd have been dead at the end of Episode 2... that, and the necessary plot contrivance that Saber be brought into the game, which necessitated a living and uncontracted Master summoning her. He's done his best to get killed at every turn, rushing into combat without support or even a weapon ever since his revival... and then refusing to actually FIGHT when it comes right down to brass tacks.

It's only everyone else's good graces which have kept Shirou-Shinji Ikari breathing up to this point. Otherwise, I'd have been more than happy to let Archer or Lancer skewer him, cut his head off, and then put it up on a pike as an example of how NOT to fight the Holy Grail War.

He's honestly a reason for me to stop watching this series... since the show's lack of plot development is at LEAST partly his fault - he won't get himself involved more actively in the war, and refuses to let his Servant get involved, which means few combat scenes and (with the show's focus on him and his harem) less chance of watching the War progress behind his back.

Even with the games (well, especially Hollow Ataraxia), I'd have to leave Shirou off that list. He's almost as bad (not quite, but almost) in the games as he is in here. The only redeeming feature he's got, IMO, is the fact he gets the girls... and some future development, which is explained in several plotpoints along two of the three main storylines of the game.

1. Rin (clear victor; I think she really makes the show worth watching)
2. Assassin (not much airtime as of yet, but his introduction to the show sold me)
3. Saber (typical choice; I fell in love with her design at first sight)
4. Archer (Rin's servant, quite mysterious and goes so well with his Master)
5. Rider (She shows that there is more to her than being Shinji's servant, and looks wonderfully animated in action scenes)
6. Taiga (comic relief, but the idea of your teacher living with you astounds me)
7. Sakura (doesn't have much airtime, but must be tough to deal with having Shinji as a brother; I hpe she has a more important role in the future)
8. Ilya (cute and sweet at times, and a cold-blooded killer at others)
9. Caster (my favourite abilities for a Servant, and seems criminally overlooked despite her great design)
10. Lancer (just so creepy)

I like Shriou well enough, but he hasn't really done anything that makes me stand out to me yet. Berserker seems to be the dullest of the Servants to me; I'm always for the magic-using or agile type rather than the lumbering colossus.

Mmmm... for me there is a clear victor... Rin, of course...

1. Rin - all that and a bag of magic stones...
2. Archer - his cocky attitude is adorable and he works so well with Rin

The rest can all duke it out for the remaining spots. But whoever said that Rin makes the show worth watching is definitely correct. Could you imagine it with only Saber and Shirou?

1. Archer: Unlimited Blade Works. It doesn't get cooler than this as far as Servants go.
2. Rin: She's got the looks, the brains, and the innate ability to fudge up in the worst moment. She's Archer's Master and Shirou's Dominatrix. All hail our miniskirt-clad goddess!
3. Lancer: foul-mouthed, brave, honorable and a melée freak. What's there not to like?
4. Ayako: great personality, probably Rin's best human friend. Shame she has such a secondary role.
5. Sakura: oh, how I'd love to see her go psycho, too. On Shirou's ass, preferentially.
6. Rider: and then God saw fanservice, and it was good. But what's with that Chibiusa-pink hair?
7. Saber: She'd rank higher if she smited Shirou more often. But there's an undeniable coolness factor about a cute girl wearing an armoured skirt.
8. Ryudo: too funny when he freaks out about Rin. Poor monk-guy must have a crush or something.
9. Illya: ah, the obligatory red-eyed albino loli. But too bipolar for me not to love her.
10. Shirou: he has a glorious future ahead, so let's keep him in the list. Now if only Saber/Rin/Sakura would beat some sense into him...

Haha! I absolutely agree that Rin FTW though I do have a thing for tragic character stories ie Caster. I shall play the game sometime soon to affirm whether I really think Caster is worth up there at 2nd place. Otherwise Saber is getting it first!

Rin is soooooooooo cute!!! i love her long dark hair!!!! i wouldn't have watched this anime if it she weren't here!! ..im sooo not a fan of blonde anime girls....i always look at the hair first ahahha...besides japanese ppl have dark to black hair naturally to begin with so animators should always take that in mind...but im really tryin my best to like saber lol....they shouldve made it..grey, blue, purple, black not blonde!!

Im pretty much happy with saber being number 1 =p She's honorable, selfless, strong, yet kind, and can be cute too. And IMHO she's got a good overall character design. She definitely deserves 1st place.

Um...she's great. Do they really need to ask this question. She's hot, sexy, strong, kind, a little egotistical(great quality she deserves it), Pretty, Beautiful, very attractive, and also very in love with the man who only wants to protect her. I think that if I was Shirou I would tie her up, dunk her in the water from the holy grail, and then allow her to destroy it. Just to kill 2 birds with one stone. She's just too precious to let go of. I understand the pride thing at the end, but I think that if Shirou loved her more than anything in the world, then he would find a way to marry her, live with her forever, destroy the grail, and also allow her to fulfill her "duty". I'm just selfish though. AND WHAT WAS UP WITH THE RELATIVE THING WHEN CONFRONTING TAIGA ABOUT IT??? He should have just came out with it and said that either she was his girlfriend, or that she was his wife/fiance, IT"S NOT THAT HARD. Or maybe Shirou should have gotten her pregnant so she would have to stay. Or return to her land bearing a child. In any case...Saber!!!!!!!

I won't let her go too like what you say , but after digging alot in the internet to find out more about Saber now I understand why Shirou must let her go. Unfortunately she is the king and she can't erase what she did in the past nor redo it , she doesn't have the freedom to love because she must protect her country as a king and die as a king . If Shirou truely love her then he'll understand that ( hardly to accept TT:TT ) and let her go to fulfil her last duty
