This episode feels kind of slow and doesn't actually progress the plot much. There are, however, some light moments in the episode which kind of make up for its deficiencies. By looking at this episode, it also becomes apparent that the series is closer to Fate arc ending more than anything else. The heavy focus on Shirou and Saber in this episode will definitely come in handy if the conclusion really is heading towards that particular ending. Anyway, I find it hard to believe that there doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency within the plot even though the series is ending soon. Having said that, the preview for next week's episode suggests that the pace will pick up a little bit from here on.

Kotomine suggests to Shirou that if he wants to force Saber to stay behind, all he has to do is leave one command spell intact so he can use it to grant his own wish. On his way back from church, Shirou realises that he doesn't want Saber to leave him. This eventually prompts him to realise that he loves her. When Shirou returns back to his house, he tells Rin that he wishes Saber doesn't turn into a complete Servant. Rin is surprised to hear this because Archer said the same thing. It seems Archer regrets being a Servant and doesn't want Saber to end up like him. This leads Rin to wonder if Archer and Saber knew each other when Saber was still King Arthur. Rin then asks Shirou what he is planning to do but it seems all Shirou wants to do tomorrow is going out on a date with Saber. Rin immediately laughs at his seriousness but also wishes him luck since he likes both Shirou and Saber. She, however, warns Shirou that a date is similar to a battle.
Because of this Shirou decides to tell Saber about his intention but unfortunately Saber has no idea what 'date' actually means. I guess back then her men never had the guts to ask her out. Shirou tries to explain that date means going out with a girl. But Saber doesn't understand why Shirou wants to do this until Rin spells it out for them that 'date' means meeting someone that you love. Saber immediately becomes embarassed while Shirou sounds as if he's coughing a furball. Rin also adds that this is a chance for a guy to appeal to the girl he likes. All of a sudden, however, Illya comes into the room and tells everyone that yes, she likes Shirou and proceeds to latch herself onto him. Rin is annoyed about this because she considers Illya to be the biggest threat to Shirou's date. Because of this Rin decides to subdue the 'horny Loli' by knocking her out with her hand. She then urges Shirou and Saber to get on with the program already.
Shirou and Saber's first destination is the department store but Saber who wants to test the durability of a dress ends up ripping into two. The two then end up watching Star Wars at the cinema. Shirou is hoping that this will allow him to hold hands but unfortunately for him, Saber is too transfixed by Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber action. Saber seems to like aquarium but also thinks it's unnatural to constraint the fish and take away their freedom. The two then go to a toy shop where Saber falls in love with a stuffed lion. A jealous Shirou decides to laugh at Saber's enthusiasm for the lion. This, however, causes Saber to become angry. She tells Shirou that it's impolite to laugh at someone else's taste before storming off the store. Once Saber cools down, the two end up watching a sunken ship at a port while the sun sets on the horizon. Saber tells Shirou that in the previous Holy War, she actually sank a ship with her Noble Phantasm.
Shirou then asks Saber if she had fun today and Saber tells him that she actually did. Shirou becomes encouraged by her response and invites her to go out with him again next time. Unfortunately for Shirou, Saber immediately refuses him by giving the old lame excuse that a Servant only exists to go into battle. Saber thinks that her excursion today is a denial of her existence. An upset Shirou asks Saber if she really does want to battle that badly. In reply Saber tells him that she does because the more battle they get into, the closer they are to obtaining the Holy Grail. Shirou suddenly tells Saber that he's always wanted to tell her that she seems to contradict herself. Although Saber often says that she wants to be in battle, Shirou thinks that the truth is, she doesn't really want to do it. He thinks that the only reason Saber goes into a battle is because she thinks that she has no other choice but to be in it.
Shirou also believes that Saber often tries to finish battle as soon as possible to minimise casualties. He accuses of being afraid of going to a battle that will involve many victims. Upon hearing this, Saber denies the accusation and tells Shirou that she's not afraid of fighting. Shirou, however, thinks that Saber has cast aside her personal needs in order to achive her mission as a King. Shirou continues his pointless rambling by saying that Saber is not cut for a fight and that she probably didn't want to take up a sword to begin with. He believes that Saber says that fighting is her only goal is a way for her to deceive herself. Saber becomes angry upon hearing this and tells Shirou that she won't forgive him if he goes further than this. Shirou, however, thinks that Saber is angry because he had said the truth. Not wanting to be outdone, Saber tells Shirou once again that there's no choice for her but to fight since this is the only way to obtain the Holy Grail.
Shirou tells Saber that there are other ways to take such as living for one's own sake. He believes that even if Saber made a mistake, she should not use the Holy Grail for the sake of others. He just wants Saber to be happy here. In reply Saber tells Shirou that even though she's contracted to him, her heart has no intention of following him. Saber wants to ensure that her Oath as King is not broken and therefore she has a duty which she must achieved. She also adds that right from the start, she only has one wish and that still hasn't changed. Shirou, on the other hand, thinks that Saber is acting out like a selfish kid because she wants to do something that is clearly couldn't be changed. Saber becomes really upset upon hearing this and tells Shirou that she thought he actually understand her. She then accuses Shirou of taking her out today only to tell her these things. She also thinks that he's foolish for caring about others but not his own life.
Saber then tells Shirou that if he doesn't like the way things work, he can just cancel their contract. She believes she's perfectly capable of battling the rest of the Master and obtain the Holy Grail herself. Shirou is upset to hear this and wonders if Saber is serious. Because of this Saber tells him that she is her purpose is to obtain the Holy Grail. Everything else is negligible and Shirou is not an exception to it. Upon hearing this, Shirou tells Saber to do whatever she wants to do before running away and leaving her alone in the bridge. When he gets home, however, Shirou realises that he's not really angry at Saber but more at the fact that he can't save her. However, even if he is wrong and Saber is right and even if she's important to him, Shirou refuses to apologise. Shirou then falls asleep in bitterness until Rin wakes him up around 10PM looking for Saber. Shirou ends up looking for her and eventually finds her still standing on the bridge.
Shirou tries to be smooth by saying that since Saber doesn't come back, Rin becomes worried. Saber admits that she's still around because she doesn't know where to go. Even though Shirou told her to do whatever she feels like, she can't seem to figure out what she wants to do. She, however, tells Shirou to send her thank you to Rin for helping her all of these times. Shirou, however, tells Saber that she can go back to his house. Saber tells him that she can't do that because he doesn't understand her. Shirou doesn't deny this but Shirou tells her that the place she can return to is his home. Saber protests because Shirou doesn’t understand her. He doesn’t deny that and instead takes her hand and tells her that they can talk about this later on at home. After a slight resistance, Saber eventually allows Shirou to lead her but before they can get to far, they are startled by the sound of a man. It seems the blonde Servant is not happy that Shirou is taking his belonging.
Impression:
Watching Saber and Shirou arguing with each other was not really a good way to spend half hour. They simply went back and forth between the same points. I can understand why some people are disappointed with this episode because it doesn't develop the plot that much. They could have included this in the last part of last week's episode and focus on the battle between Saber and the mysterious Servant in this week's episode instead. Oh well, it was rather amusing to see Saber looking at the stuffed lion and being excited while watching Star Wars. I was, however, surprised to see Rin being so supportive of Shirou and Saber. I think that makes me appreciate her even more than I already have. In addition to this, she was actually worried when Saber hasn't come home yet. There are also hints that seem to link Shirou more and more to Archer but I suspect nothing will actually comes out of this matter.

On next week's episode: Shirou and Saber got busted by the disgruntled fiancee. Lesson of the week: if you cheat on someone, make sure they don't find out about it.
Holy crack...next week looks to feature some serious shiz. However, I am even more interested in the episode after next; perhaps it could be an Archer dream sequence? A bone to the fans, please, Studio Deen!
yeah, but Saber is faaaar more popular than crazy Sakura.
At this point in time, I just want the writers to end this series properly. Of course it'll be nice if I can see Archer again but I'm not holding my breath.
Man, I wonder how blondie would react if he learned how Shirou jammed it into Saber.
Anyone else feel kinda sorry for Ilya right now? Moving from 'evil loli' to 'comedic relief worthy of Taiga-nee' seems to be a HUGE step down in the world, IMO. :D
Ah well - at least he didn't take her out to dinner; if he thought the shopping was bad, the dinner would've been far, far worse...
>> I wonder how blondie would react if he learned how Shirou jammed it into Saber
Not to mention he saw her dragon. XD I think that's like getting into 3rd base.
Seriously though, I wonder if Saber is tough on men because in the past men have always try to demean her. Just look at Gilgamesh, he only see her as his posession instead of someone of her own right.
Rin totally stole the episode.
Why can't they make Rin the main character instead of Shirou?
I feel sorry for Rin... Wasn't she supposed to feel something for Shirou?
You know, the fact she used her pendant to save him, she teamed with him and she SACRIFICED HER SERVANT AND HER CHANCE TO WIN THE WAR for him.
But noooooo, a boring lenghty date scene between Saber and Shirou is so much more interesting. Gah, this anime is a semi-failure IMO.
I like this episode. I want to know how Shirou and Saber's relationship will turn out.
I also wish they give Rin more scenes. I always get impression from the anime that Shirou is not the only main character. So why just focus on him and Saber?
And how about the relationship between Rin and Sakura? Hello writers, not all of us have actually played the game! Could you guys at least confirm the relationship between the two? Why would Rin being not nice to Sakura at the start and suddenly cares for her now?
Dudezz... this is fate scenario.... get em to make a UBW if u want more Rin
I think at the end of the day, Fate writers chose the wrong arc to follow. Fate is the most dry and boring storyline to follow in comparison to the other two arcs.
I don't think its as bad as u mention. Its probably the lesser of the 3 in storyline and everything else but its more of the "mainstream" type of anime we are use to seeing. The other two arcs can be extremely difficult to explain and well, much darker than the fate scenario.
In my opinion, if we isolate each story from the others, Fate is as good as the other storylines. UBW and HF play with advantage because they assume the gamer has gone through the former paths, so they can choose to neglect certain characters that were given a lot of screen time before and shift the focus to others.
I think they made a wise choice by animating Fate, because it's the most linear, least convoluted storyline. It's difficult to go wrong with that.

For my taste, Fate's ending is the best - not too happy, nor too depressing. I hope they don't change it. Although I just noticed it's very similar to Arcueid's true ending in Tsukihime...

Rin always protected Shirou and he doesnt even notice that !!! She haves more style to be the main character xD but I like Shirou too.It was like...they are too lazy to tell all the story and cut it off most of things that they have to explain...that is an error on the anime xD.....
Fate scenario is the key part of the F/sn plot, also Saber is the more popular of teh 3 heroines.
chosing it for the anime is a no-brainer, some guys need to stop complaing because the anime is as good as done in this point... hoping it to swicth to UBW or HF is just a dream.
As much as i love F/sn, I find this ep a little stoopid, but quite entertaining in some aspects. Somewhat shoujo-ish.I liked the way Rin said "I like you both" in the beginning. Almost...how can I say...hawt. She's still my favourite gal in F/sn.If Shirou had some brains, he should have found a way to bag Rin,Saber&Sakura (possibly together) at this point.. ^_^
Are you going to change the layout of your website once "Fate/Stay Night" has finished airing?
Not that it is a terrible layout, it's just that you should have a little "reformation" on the layout design. It should bring some benefits.
Oh, and my only compliment for "Fate/Stay Night" is that it has a nice color palette and lighting. I do think that the graphic sections, however, are rather interesting and elegant, such as when they're trying to chop eachother's arms off with their unoriginal plastic-like swords.
Yeah, there always doesn't seem to be a state of particular emergency in FSN, with the exception of Berserker. But I don't blame Shirou.
It's a good thing he realized, finally, what he wants to use the Holy Grail for. I think the date was more of a way to convince Saber that his way is the right way while her way is the wrong way. Afterall, if I was a master and I realized my wish contradict my servant's wish, it would definately be a great concern to me, and I would be busy trying to compromise with my servant on a wish we both can agree on.
Or I might end up like Caster's master... go figure...
I think there was even a bad ending where Saber finally gets fed up with Shirou and kills him. (Don't take my word for it, never played the game) O_o
In my opinion, a smart move on Shirou's part... though the episode lacked action or momentum. It was sorta, just another date. I actually liked the argument, though. It finally reveals the two of them as a couple. Awwww... how sweet, they're arguing over something stupid, like real couples! ^_^
Don't worry too much about poor Rin guys, as it's really her harem anyways. She's just making sure her two top b*tches get along with each other. When she makes her harem consolidation move she just wants to make sure Saber and Shirou aren't gonna fight over who gets to sleep with Goshujin-sama each night.
I don't think Ilya's 'horny' so much as 'incredibly possessive' - she wants to keep 'onii-chan' all to herself, and keep his attention on her, forever and ever and ever... :D
Besides, Rin knows that Saber's done for once the war's over, so she doesn't have to worry about anything except maybe Ilya, when the time comes... or Sakura, or Taiga-nee.
I don't think Ilya's 'horny' so much as 'incredibly possessive'
I should have put that in inverted comas earlier since it was meant to be tongue in cheek. But oh well :P
I should have put that in inverted comas earlier since it was meant to be tongue in cheek. But oh well :P
That's why I added a smiley at the end - still, it's funny how Ilya's played off of Shirou's apparent siscon tendencies by managing to finangle herself a place in his household DESPITE promising to kill him just an ep or two before... and kidnapping him, as well.
With 'competition' like that, Rin only needs to worry about Sakura when it comes to dealing with Shirou. ;)
I think there was even a bad ending where Saber finally gets fed up with Shirou and kills him. (Don't take my word for it, never played the game) O_o
Uh... no.............
I am wondering can Shirou trace lightsaber .
It will be fun if he can do so.
So next episode will be Shirou's 7th form of lightsaber combat vs the blondie?
Hey everyone, how do you think this anime will end? Anyone think a second season is possible?
I still hope there'll be some twist along the way (provided that Nasu/the rest of Type-Moon still have the budget for it) that features Sakura having some sort of "thing" happen to her caused by Caster's HAX via a conclusive Eps 25 and 26 or a new season. While the Fate route might be a "happy ending" favorable to most fans old and new, wouldn't seeing Shirou himself perform UBW and/or Sakura taking forcible possession of Arturia be somewhat of a "WTF?!" kind of thing?
Doubt that will happen especially since the plot went this far now. It's more likely going to follow the Fate scenario, with some UBW and Heaven's Feel content added along the way. Also, there might be a slight chance that Shirou will be able to perform his own UBW (or at least realize Archer's identity?).
I have no problem with the anime going for the Fate route, as long as the anime itself is good. But who knows if the anime will go into a different direction at the end.
Mirioki:
It's good Shirou figured out what to use the Holy Grail for and that he wants Saber to stick around after the whole thing is over, but I think he picked the wrong way to convince her of his ideas. He knew she was proud and stubborn; pointing out the inconsistencies and childishness in her actions just made her defensive and indignant. He should have come right out and said he cared a great deal for her and he never thought of their relationship as Master/Servant - more of a partnership. He could have told her he wants to stay with her after the war is over and show her a different way of life than swords and fighting.
But if everyone got right to the point, we wouldn't have a show, would we?
I have a question:
I've never played the game, how do shiro and saber win this fight? it looks like they're going to lose from the preview...
In the game, they don't.
Shirou briefly tries to Trace Gilgamesh's sword, and fails. Then he Traces Caliburn, and hacks a slice out of Goldy's armor, shocking him into retreat. (His reaction in the game is kinda funny, really.)
...Let's just say that Saber's second H-event follows soon after this, eh? And she's much more...Well, 'willing' this time...
uhhhh!ok you all liked rin to be with shiro. But to me i like saber and shirou they are a match.archer is shiro of the future.Rin let shiro go with saber because she liked them.Rin love archer.archer and rin is a perfect match.at,first she liked shiro thats why she saved him.but the person she loved is archer.who is also shiro.so dont be dissapointed cause rin and shiro are still a couple but the future shiro.the past shiro with saber.
I like both Rin and Saber so much. I think Saber's the perfect match for Shiro, but I wanted Rin to end up with Shiro at the end. And I want Rin to have more scenes....
