This turns out to be a rather fun episode. The 3 party fights were quite exciting to watch and the ending was a bit surprising to say the least. There are, however, certain elements which I wish had been explored a bit further but they were either not included or not revealed just yet. Animation-wise, this is a lot better than the previous episode although as usual, I wish the animators use less blurry effect to indicate movement. Music is another memorable aspect of this episode. The piece that plays during Caster's flashback is really a nice one. Anyway, with only 6 more episodes to go, I think it'll be interesting to see how many more enemies the writers can cram in. I especially wish that they will develop one particular enemy a bit more but after this episode, this doesn't seem likely.
Caster remembers her past as a scorned woman back when she was in ancient Greece, then as an almost dead Servant who collapsed in front of Ryuudou temple. Back then, she was saved by Souichirou and ever since then she seems to developed fondness for him, proving that even serial killers have feelings. Meanwhile, Fujimura-sensei is seen tucking Illya into bed while Saber, Rin, and Shirou arrive in front of Ryuudou temple. They manage to find a secret entrance to Caster's hideout and is quickly surrounded by countless skeletal warriors. The warriors, however, got defeated easily due to Saber and Rin's effort. Before they can go further, however, they got blocked by Assassin. Since Assassin is only interested in fighting Saber, Saber tells Rin and Shirou to go forward while she handles Assassin on her own. The two, however, got confronted by Souichirou so Shirou tells Rin to go ahead. Meanwhile Saber is being questioned by Assassin about what she wants to achieve out of this war.
Saber is reminded of her dead comrades while she was King Arthur and becomes angry because of it. She proceeds to attack Assassin with all of her power. At the same time, Rin is confronted by Caster, who knows that Sakura is Rin's precious person. It appears that she managed to read Sakura's mind. Caster then whispers to Sakura's ear telling her that the person she's been waiting for is now here, effectively activating the spell she has over Sakura. A quick flashback reveals that when they were kids, Sakura and Rin knew each other but one day the two got seperated. In the present day, dark, tentacle-like power comes out of Sakura's body and proceeds to attack Rin. While this happens, Sakura's power continues to be drained for the purpose of activating the Holy Grail. Meanwhile, Shirou is still fighting Souichirou and decides to ask the teacher why he participates in this war since he is not a mage and has no interest in the Holy Grail.
In reply Souichirou tells Shirou that it's the same thing with Shirou but Shirou tells Souichirou that he's not the same with Souichirou. Souchirou begs to differ. He thinks he and Shirou are similar in the sense that they have no wish of their own out of this war. At the same time, Saber continues her fight with Assassin while Rin tries her best to free Sakura from the binding magic that drains her power. Rin tells Sakura that to a mage, the one that needs to be protected the most is not their life but the purity of their soul. In a desperation, Rin decides to use her jewel to freeze the power that surrounds Sakura. She then charges into Sakura with her magic while Sakura herself produces a knife on her hand before running towards Rin. Another flashback reveals how Sakura started to refer to herself as Matou Sakura when she got seperated from Rin. The two girls were crying after being seperated and Rin was apologising profusely for leaving Sakura alone.
In the present time, the magic power underneath Sakura has finally disappeared and Rin is now seen holding Sakura. On the floor, however, there are traces of blood near the dagger that Sakura dropped. It appears that Sakura managed to stab Rin somehow. Despite this, Rin is not concerned and simply tells Sakura something that no one else can hear but clearly affects Sakura because she is seen crying after hearing the words. Rin then tells her not to forget everything that she had said because the bad dream is now over. Rin then kisses Sakura on the forehead and smiles at her. Sakura smiles back to Rin in return but it is obvious that Rin is losing a lot of blood because of the wound in her body. Away from the two girls, Caster laughs and tells Rin that they only need one girl with magic circuit for the sacrifice.
Impression:
Is this Caster's plan all along? To lure Rin using Sakura? Either way, we now have some hints that Rin and Sakura used to have connection with one another but since this episode decides to be vague about it, I better shut my mouth in case they decide to change that connection in this version. I am slightly disappointed though that this is all of Dark Sakura that we get to see. S & M Sakura wasn't exactly what I had in mind. But I suppose with Caster and Assassin still alive and a potential new enemy appearing on next week's episode they don't have many opportunity to develop her character more than this. I still, however, wish that we get to see the background story for Rin and Sakura. This is why I don't understand why the writers decided not to reveal Rin's words to Sakura especially if they have no more time to reveal the two girl's connection. And while we're at it, who's the ugly guy smirking inside the car?
Preview:

On next week's episode: Saber tells Shirou to jump off the bridge for being no help to her. At the same time a new character appears to show the rest of the chumps that Gold really is a man's best friend.
Wow, and I thought Zouken was not going to make an appearance. What a pleasant surprise.
Malintex, is that the ugly guy in the car? Hmm, maybe there is hope after all.
I simply could not believe Rin sorts out this mess in just 1 episode, well as the "Dark Sakura Costume" doesn't really fit viewers' taste, putting it to an end sounds about right.
The anime is really speeding up, I sense a modified HF path is being cooked up...
Yeah, that was Zouken in the car. I don't think we'll be seeing him again though.
When I first saw this Sakura costume they got Sakura wearing, the first thing that came on my mind was "Bible Black/Stay Night!"
But then I realized it was the boxcutter gal. Anyway, the episode seems to go quite well, next week seems really promising, since goldy is coming up. If we get Saber vs you-know-who, shouldn't be an easy battle for her, since she can't use her sword due to Caster's Noble Phantasm, Rule Breaker, isn't that right?
Oh well, this is getting more and more interesting, and I'm still hoping for some Unlimited Blade Works mess involving Shirou.
You know... they have two potential grail vessels now: Sakura and Ilya
Is Sakura going to be kidnapped again?
Or will both Ilya and Sakura be snatched?
I'm really disappointed. If they don't show Rider again, the anime will be a complete disaster.
p.s: sorry my bad english
They can't show Rider once again, because she died in the battle against Saber and her Noble Phantasm, Excalibur.
It was quite a surprise to see Zouken in that car... but ... *shine* Gilgamesh's coming!!! YAY!! I really want to se him soon ^__^
Blue-kun, then explain to me WHY she's the only servant that not appear "vanish"?
Why they "Dark Sakura" appear just now?
*spoiler starts*
They're still time. The shadow can devour gilgamesh and zouken show up...
*spoiler ends*
>>>They can't show Rider once again, because she died in the battle against Saber and her Noble Phantasm, Excalibur.
*spoiler starts
Not really, in the game Sakura has the power to re-summon (or regenerate if you like) servant, and in HF path she actual re-summon a few servants and the whole table turnover...
not gonna reveal any more of plots... and the anime is probably not the same anyway.
*spoiler ends*
Grandfather, you are still an evil evil man...
DF is givin me hope XD
DF, it doesn't work that way.
The BADASS GUY is coming YEAH HURRAH!!!
I find it strange that this episode didn't even mention the fact that Rin and Sakura are sisters. I mean, why hide it when the story is over and done with?
YAY GIL-SAMA! Kick some ass yo!
hi , since i only watch anime and nothing else, i thought that sakura and RIn double ko in the end
1> caster say she only need 1 sacrifice ( but 2 died)
2> Rin said " the one that needs to be protected the most is not their life but the purity of their soul" it kinda suggest that she's going to kill sakura ..
3> Rin said something like "the bad dream is now over" also suggest sakura dying-ish
when i see comments that only Rin died it's kinda weird..
I don't think anyone died. I mean with you know who coming, it'll be insane if only Saber and Shirou left to fight him and the rest of the 'villains'. They will need a miracle even with Rin's presence. I think what will happen in the future is that elimination thanks to the bad guys themselves. For example, the new character will off Caster/Assassin then he himself got killed by another new villain, etc. That way Saber/Shirou/Rin are spared from having to fight them. But yeah, the anime did make it seem as if Rin and Sakura died. I blame the direction and the attempt to hide Rin/Sakura past for it.
Hey, there's still room for lots of interesting endings. If they keep the pace of the last few episodes, six episodes are enough time.
And sincerely, I think Rider's coming back, not only because of the ambiguity of her "death" scene, but because she's the only servant whose story hasn't been explained in detail. I want to believe there's a reason for that.
*spoiler starts*
Besides, in the moment she got Excalibur'ed she was using Bellerophon, an offensive / defensive noble phantasm ranked A+, so it wouldn't be so surprising if she survived (no matter how injured).
She certainly seemed pretty confident in that moment, although she probably didn't expect her rival to pull an A++ noble phantasm out of the blue...
*spoiler ends*
I'd love to see Rin fall to the dark side... S&M Rin... *drool* But with the golden boy showing up, I'm afraid this sub-plot doesn't have much future.
The cap about M&Ms just kills me....rofl-ing.
So they decided to have Sakura take over Rider's sex appeal. That would not have been my first choice.
Anyways, I"m glad that Gilgamesh is coming. With caster and assassin taking over Berserker's role as main vilians, I was seriously wondering if he was going to show up.
Rider's dead as a doornail
Give it up.
SHE'S NOT DEAD ¬¬
Sakura never "re-summoned" servants. Rider won't return. She was blasted with Excalibur's beam of light, there's only one Noble Phantasm stronger than that.
"Sakura never "re-summoned" servants. Rider won't return. She was blasted with Excalibur's beam of light, there's only one Noble Phantasm stronger than that."
Saber? LOL She's weak and Caster used Rule Breaker on her... how she can possible THINK in defeat Gilgamesh?
So basically, Assasin was MADE UP? What?
So far the ONLY servant which actually fits the definition of a Servant follows the rules as layed out by the show itself is Berserker:
1. Famous Historic Figure -> check
2. Summoned by a Master -> check
3. Has powers and abilities which reflect his class -> check
4. Followed the rules of the Master-Servant relationship -> check
Every single other Servant has broken one or more of the above criteron. Except for Lancer, but we don't know enough about him.
I can't believe Saber would allow Shirou go out to face another Servant and a combat expert Master.
If I were a Heroic Soul hanging out in the Dead Heroes Union Workers Hall watching this crap I'd be pissed off. Lots of good union Heroes are being passed up for non-Heroes, heroes that aren't even heroes yet, being summoned by non-Masters and now by MADE UP heroes. Time for a STRIKE.
NO MASTERS NO WARS!
REAL SERVANTS FOR REAL MASTERS!
THE ONLY GOOD SERVANT IS A DEAD SERVANT!
I have made a serious mistake there, Sakura didn't resummon any servants in HF, sorry for the misleading information Katsumi_Liqueur.
I guess I should have said Sakura is a holy grail vessel herself, and she has the power to resummon servant(just like what happen to Gilgamesh), I am not totally agreed with what's on wikipedia.
PS: The Rider thing is settled, all three paths will lead to her death(sorry), unless the anime reveals a new path, no chance...
DF, no, you are still mistaken. That's not what Sakura does, and it has nothing to do with Gil. As for Rider, you are mistaken as well with regards to the game.
She's a darn servant eater, DF
What she devours is under her influence. Since she hasn't devoured anyone yet, I doubt she can do that.
Rider is dead and her spirit is in another grail.
If you want to uncaringly spoil something at least get it right.
I swear, some of you guys never even played the game are making up your own false expectations.
I wish I am dead now... orz
Regarding Rider, in HF path she is supposed to have a good ending as well...
I played the game indeed, trying to understand it without aids from game guides, but apparently mission failed...
Sorry for dropping such a confusion, and thx for pointing out all the errors guys...
I will think positive >.<
RIDER RIDER RIDER RIDER RIDER
Then... what did Sakura say in ep 12, when Rider "died" ? ... .... ...... .......
P.S: Sorry my bad english, again XD
That ugly guy in the car might be Shiro's Grandfather from the first episode. The "Landowner" lol
NOVA, it's Zouken.
There will still be time for that little Sakura+Rin Revelation i hope..we'll just have to see. Next up:The Golden King, Gilga-san :) He's the best.
I really liked this episode. It revealed alot about rin and sakura that I suspected from the start.
