Opening Theme: 「きらめく涙は星に」- Kirameku Namida wa Hoshi ni by タイナカ サチ (Tainaka Sachi) (14.7MB, for PSP/Quicktime)
Wow, I think we probably spoke way too fast about Archer's funeral ceremony last week. Because if the opening is any indication of future plot, maybe he's not gone. Yet. At any rate, if this is true, of course I'm looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the new opening is actually not as good as the old one. Maybe I'm just not used to it yet but I thought it's not as powerful as Disillusioned. This episode is also a bit of a mess with some bad-looking 3D effects being used in some of the scenes. I hope this is not an indication of the way the animation in future episodes will look. Despite this, I'm still looking forward to next week's episode in the hope that something super-exciting will happen to the story. I'm hoping a certain someone will finally take a centre stage and starts killing people left and right.

Brief summary:
Shirou decides to carry Saber like a Prince carrying a King....okay, that's probably a wrong analogy. Anyway, he decides to carry Saber so they can run away from Berserker faster. But Shirou ends up feeling tired so they decide to shack up in an abandoned house and have some fun threesome together. Shirou, however, is not used to threesome and he starts hallucinating about getting his arm chewed off by an ugly looking CGI dragon and then meeting Saber inside the creature's stomach. Yes, I think that's more or less what sex feels like. The next morning, Saber and Shirou wake up blushing as if this is their first time being eaten by a dragon.
Moving along, they got caught up by Berserker and Illya so they decide to fight him off. Shirou tries to shoot Berserker with puny arrow. Berserker wants to smash puny human but Illya tells him to get the girls first before Shirou. Berserker, a gentleman as always, agrees that girls should come first. When Saber is in a tight spot, however, Rin jumps forward to throw some exploding jewellery which freezes Berserker's right arm. Unfortunately for her, Berserker's left arm wants to re-enact King Kong with Rin. Rin, not wanting to be outdone, uses more exploding jewellery on Berserker's head. Berserker momentarily stops moving. But Illya explains that Berserker has 12 x life or rather, 7 more left now. With this in mind, Illya orders Berserker to squeeze Rin to puree.
Impression:
I was actually going to make a full summary of this episode but then I realise that there isn't much to summarise and I kind of want to include the word King Kong somewhere in the summary because that's the first thing that struck my mind when I saw Rin on Berserker's arm but the reference wouldn't have the same impact on a normal summary. Anyway, what a funny episode! I have no idea if it's intentional or not but I was laughing throughout the entire thing anyway. Where should I start? Well, let's try the 'sex' scene, or rather the 'Shirou inside Saber' scene. I would have said that it's brilliantly amusing if it wasn't for the ugly dragon. And it's not like Shirou tame the dragon or anything. He was eaten by it! But maybe they get to make sweet love inside the tummy of the dragon. Because that's when the scene starts to fade into black. On a hindsight, it was a good thing that the scene was funny because now that I think about it, I feel like ripping something off because I feel sorry seeing Rin all alone while Shirou and Saber are getting it on.
And the Archer/Rin fan in me can't help but feeling wistful when Rin was pretending as if Archer meant nothing to her because I know that's not the truth. Her actions in this episode actually spoke louder than words. She actually charged Berserker head on with the intention of killing him. This scene is wonderful because it says two things to me: Rin wants to personally avenge Archer's death and that she doesn't think through her actions as usual. To be fair, no one will expect that Berserker has 12 x life and 7 still remains. It looks like either Illya can't count or Rin didn't kill Berserker this time around. I'd like to think that Illya can't count. I mean it'll be insane if they have to kill Berserker 7 times and we're already halfway to the end of the series. Kill him already and let's move on to a new enemy or two. As fun as it was to see the behemoth acting like King Kong, there's another enemy which I'd prefer to see.
Preview:

On next week's episode: Shirou will show the girls that he's the man by using Saber's sword to slice Berserker's arm. Will it work? Or will he lose a hand in the process?
I almost wish they show up hentai...god damn, what kind of fucked up bastard has dragon in his sex fantasies?
yup. That dragon was DEFINITELY hallucination. no doubt. (I was screaming at the screen. "NO~~~~") I wonder if they are going to revive Archer... very interesting intro
The thing is, that is actually 'the inside' of Saber (whatever that means). And there are dragons and red lavas there. So maybe Saber likes Dragon a bit much?
I wonder if they are going to revive Archer... very interesting intro
Probably not, that's the fight sequence from the UBW path, considering they show some sequence of Archer and Lancer fight that didn't happen on the first opening theme, I'm guessing this is just one of those.
The reason for the dragon, is that Arturia carries the aspect of the dragon. Bear in mind, Pendragon.
This episode was uproriously hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
Most likely Haruhi directed it.
It would be really stupid for them to revive archer just so he can get killed by Shirou. Shouldn't Shirou try something more powerful (like a bazooka)?
The reason for the dragon, is that Arturia carries the aspect of the dragon. Bear in mind, Pendragon.
*flashback*
Soldier: Our king is a descendant of the dragon!!
With that in mind...I still think that it was an unnecessary filler to cover up the sex scene...
Though the whole losing one arm thing *almost* makes me think HF, good luck salvaging part from nonexistent corpse though.
The fights look exciting but that dragon does make the show looks cheap. It's too bad. Last week was so good.
While I must admit, that dragon looks pretty fugly, I nearly died laughing when I heard of Deen/TM/Geneon's circumnavigation of the shag scene. One word; PUNK'D! :D
that was because last week episode had Archer in it ;D
As hideous and silly as that dragon looks it was a dragon shaped comet that insipred Uther father of Arthur, err...Saber to take up the Pendragon surname and make two dragon standards.
So losing your virginity by having premarital relations is like losing an arm.
Good grief I hope they do their laundry promtly.
>> that was because last week episode had Archer in it ;D
True, true. Who's willing to bet that new OP is just a bait so that Archer's fans will stick around to the end, hoping he'll return? Damn it, it works!!
:/ Did they use up all their budget last week and were thus stuck with...this?
Y'know, the new opening just screams 'Second Season' all over it. Hopefully, that will prove to be through.
Generally, Shirou's a wuss in the FATE scenario; But the way he used the bow and copied the Sword in the Stone (Yeah, it's not Excalibur) was pretty cool.
Saber x Shirou = Meh. I feel sorry for Rin getting shaft like that. I was hoping she'll actually get Shirou somehow.
Wouldn't it be cool if in the end:
//spoiler//
Shirou fights Archer while Saber fight Gilgamesh, and Rin faces off with Sakura
//spoiler//
I think the opening suggest that this maybe the case.
"Saber x Shirou = Meh"
yeah, but the ending crearly shows who's the heroine of this anime xD
Shouldn't there be 6 more life left instead of 7? If Rin killed Berserker that's 1 + 5 from Archer's legacy.
This is the way I perceived it. Berserker can be killed 12 "extra" times, which actually means he has 13 life...
I believe Archer will come back (for all those Archer fan) since he is the "cleaning guy" when diseaster strikes...my theory is that the fight with Saber and Gilgamesh will pull Archer back to the present day again...
And I was rooting for a sex scene..man, that means I have to wait another week for a cool fight scene
Did I forget to mention..a stolen kiss from Rin..sweet..and the huge HUGE metaphor for the sex scene..that was even SWEETER
I was looking for lyrics for disillusion, then bumped into this site, good job you have here.
Now the dragon thing.. I dunno, but in my opinion there seem to be a tendency that the Japanese producers think that "3D animation = impressive" regardless of other elements. This is not the first instance I've encountered where a stupid 3D animation ruined the whole feeling of a scene.
They COULD just do a sex scene with acceptable sexual preferences in my opinion... Since the blood is already seen everywhere, merely showing a couple under a blanket doesn't really make any difference... well who knows what their TV regulations are.
Anyway I wasn't even remotely interested in the animation idea when the F/S hg memory was still fresh in my mind, because I knew the animation can't even come close to match the expressions of the original.
I only picked up the episodes when I noticed the anime version DVD is out on the market so I gave it a shot... and it's exactly what I've expected. You can't feel anything you'd have felt in the original...
It is almost painful to see the berserker in the animation man... it gives you the thought - that's it? In the original, the appearance of the berserker made me chill to the bone(even his roar is described as "can't be described by words"). In the anime it only feels like some clumsy moving big meat block...
***
expecting to see thousand swords from the true arche and shirou at the end.. if I don't see those I'm going to scrap my dvds...
i dont think shirou and saber had sex. X_X
all he did was "go inside of saber" as in spiritually.
when they woke up, both saber and shirou were fully clothed and saber looked the way she did after rin "played" with her a little bit. :D
I think that the Shirou vs. Archer scene might just be Shirou doing his imaging/UBW training. Archer did tell Shirou to fight the image of his strongest self or something vague like that. So then Shirou images his future self (Archer) inside the UBW world, and fights him.
Or maybe Archer enters Shirou's dream or something. Either way I think that Archer coming back will just be a Bleach-style plot device for Shirou's final power-up.
And for everyone that hates FATE's ending, this episode gives some hope. There is now something (the magic circuit) that phisically binds Shirou and Saber together, and it could potentially change the ending. At least, it could be used as an excuse to change the ending. Both UBW and HF have a true ending and a good ending in the game, but FATE only has one ending. Hopefully, we'll be seeing the "good ending" of FATE.
I like where they're going with the plot. Spoilers from the game synopsis won't make one lose the feeling that they're watching something new.
Flip side? Animation quality drop, and I don't mean the CG. I could bear that and grin through it. No, I mean the animation in general. Compare, if you would, this episode to the one with the first Saber vs Berserker fight. I am so very unimpressed with Geneon right now.
Meh.
Here's hoping they get their heads out of their collective asses and go back to the quality from the beginning through middle eps of the show.
Heh. Hoping.
Fat chance.
The captions to the thumbnail pics are a work of art...
*Sniff* I'm crying!
Animation in this series has ranged from "moderately acceptable" to "sub-par", ignoring the super-inferior CG dragon.
We're well past the half-way mark, and I still feel as if I've only watched 6 episodes. I don't remember Tsukihime sucking this bad. But then Tsukihime was doen by a different studio.
Well, I am just pissed that there wasn't a love scene...I mean they put one in for Tsukihime, so why not Fate/Stay night- there shouldn't be a regulation, all the fans should know where this anime's origin came from.
cclragnarok , you are mistaken, UBW has a "normal" ending and a "good" ending. HF has a "normal" ending and a "true" ending.
el-cheapo CG dragon? Looked sooo fugly ^_^ it made me laugh a lot, really. Not a bad ep tho'.Still a F/sn fanboy.
>>> cclragnarok , you are mistaken, UBW has a "normal" ending and a "good" ending. HF has a "normal" ending and a "true" ending.
According to Moonlit world, it is actually "true" and "good" for UBW, and "normal" and "good" for HF.
It makes no difference anyway. The fact of the matter is that both UBW and HF have two endings, one of them being the happier ending, and the other being the not-as-happy-but-maybe-more-realistic ending. For FATE we only get the not-so-happy ending that doesn't even make too much sense.
Shingetsutan Tsukihime was only a 13 episode series though, and it consisted entirely of slow pans. There were maybe three episodes with fighting in them. We've at least doubled that with F/SN by now. :)
I tend to think Studio DEEN broke the bank/artists with 14, as it had a lot more fluid movement during the battle than pretty much every other fight up to that point. Also they had to animate a new OP as well, those things aren't cheap. So for 15, they had to reuse animation and drop in a last minute CGI dragon.
Think of it as a SEED summary episode to give the artists a rest. Not an excuse, just reasoning. They'd better be saving up the money for an upcoming episode, anyway.
After hearing about how awesome the game is yet again, I once again tried playing it armed with the Anime Game Text Hooker and a copy of Atlas. My god. Utter waste of time and bandwidth. AGTH sycks as badly as OTH, and I'd rather gouge my eyeballs out then and sludge my way through novels worth of Japanese I can't understand.
Only way I'll try playing this game is if it gets voice acted.
Kind of makes me believe that most of those who claim to have played the game are lying.
cclragnarok, the distinction actually does matter. As HF's "true" ending is the "happier" one. Although, I wouldn't necessarily call it happy, it's still following HF. While the Fate ending is bittersweet, the "normal" ending to HF is godawful, and only avoids being called "bad end" since that's reserved for losing the game. UBWs endings are generally happier, and the "good" ending is pretty easily the happiest ending in the game.
I was always kindof indifferent towards Dissillusion, so the change of OP doesn't bother me so much as the change in the animation. D: It had style and flair, this one just kindof reminds me of casual shonen anime with Kanon mixed in for Illya. I'm SO happy they didn't get rid of the ending though, it's so beautiful. ;_;
Not sure about the budget situation for the anime (I assume crappy 3D is easier than drawing) but..really, the 3D dragon totally ruined it for me.
Next Up, Shirou tries to summon Excalibur, but somehow Miroku came instead. Not deterred, he tries to slash Berserker, and misses. But when Miroku hit the ground, it activates ground spikes that cause Berserker to drop Rin.
An enraged Berserker proceed to attack Shirou, who tries to block but is nowhere near strong enough and gets slashed by Berserker. Shirou screams in pain and collapses to the ground
But Psycho Sakura hears his cry and comes to the rescue! Wielding the legendary short blade, Kaede's +20/+20 Boxcutter, she disembowels Berserker 7 times over, killing the beast once and for all.
Next Episode: Psycho Sakura and Kaede's Boxcutter, vs Rin and Sabre. Also, Jenesis gets banned from the Memento forums for posting rubbish. :P
yo guys please tell me what the heck is UBW and HF are these thinks the storylines of the game?
And that guy who can be seen in the openning in gold platemail suit is gilgamesh?
Anyway are you so well with japanese language that you can understand the game or do you have a translated version?
Oh and the opening starts with a picture about the servants, right? There are 6 servants one of them is the whitch, but I thought she is the master of the assasin servant. Saber is the 7th servant then what is gilgamesh? I read on an other forum that in the 14th episode we can know who is archer? But I can't see it. Would someone tell it? And what about Sakura? When Shirou had been captured, Rin was in front of Sakura's house. Maybe she will get some important role in the end? Sorry if I asked any obviously but I haven't played the game yet.
(yes I hope I will get some answers)
Shirokko:
For your questions, the answers lies here...
www.geocities.com/max3075/fate/fate.htm
but I warn you..it contains heavy spoilers...
Woho Thank you soo much!
...Sigh. You know what made the game so special? It was how DARK and GRIM it was, y'know. At least half the cast was dead at the end of each scenario, and the other half was seriously injured/doomed/with a short life span. And that was in the FATE scenario. The anime doesn't quite seem to capture that atmosphere; The fight against Berserker had a lot more desperate running, hiding, THEN fighting. And what's up with the ice? Rin blew his head up, and you could see blood and everything.
There is a new synopsis of Fate up to ep 18 out in one of the magazine. It seems that we are going in totally different direction away from FATE, UBW, and HF, as there will be an encounter that does not happen in the game.
The story lacks logic and consistency.
1. Servents are noble souls, legendary heroes from history and myth endowed with great powers obey the will of Masters in a war for the Holy Grail. Okay, sounds good.
2. Berserker is Herculese, 'cause he's a really strong melee expert who goes nuts. Makes sense.
3. Lancer is Cú Chulainn. Never heard of him. But he fights with a lance, so okay.
4. Saber is King Arthur...who is actually a she. So we can get the gender right of unknown heroes like Chulainn, but not the most famous figure of Middle Ages myth? There's not one account anywhere that the King was actually a hot chick? Oooookay...
4. Rider isn't actually a noble soul, who somehow snuck into the Holy Grail War or something. Umm, okay...but her power is riding Pegasus so whatever.
6. Archer who isn't from history or myth, but rather from the FUTURE. He isn't a legendary bowsman but rather a mage who mainly fights with conjoured swords and his power is making swords. He's an Archer because, um, uh, he can also make a bow and arrow?
If you are looking fro inconsistencies, there are plenty of other things. For one thing, Saber is a name of a weapon, not a class of combattant. Lance usually is long, oversized spear used while mounted on fast moving steed. If they truely wanted to get the names and heroes right, this is what I believe should have happened.
1. Berserker: Hercules is fine. Thor is better choice, however, for the term berserkers comes from viking military unit.
2. Lancer: The name says it all: Lancelot from Knight of round table fame. He one of three best lancers, other two being Tristan and Galahad. The best widely known real historic mounted spear wielder may be Lu Bu from Romance of Three Kingdoms.
3. Fighter( not saber ): More appropriate name would be infantry or foot soldier. Many good choice exists, but most renowned fighter in the world may be Zhang Fei from the romance of three kingdom. For European Hero, Beowulf would be the best, but there are more Chinese in the world compared to Europeans. Another good choice would be renamed this class as swordman and use Miyamoto Musashi. If you really want to stick with the name Saber, than the most famous saber wielder of them all is: Darth Vader.
4. Rider: You have to go with the god here: Guan Yu from Romance of three kingdom. He really is worshipped as god. Krishuna or Vishunu from Indian Mythology is also good choice as well as the Monkey King who rides the clouds.
5. Archer: Robin Hood is the most famous archer in the world. If you just go by the legends, the founder of Chosun Dynasty, Yi, Sung Gae's archery duel against his later oath-brother is even more incredible. Even some Japanese concedes that bow and arrow is for Koreans and sword is for themselves.
6. Caster: for spell user, Merlin is the most famous, followed by Gandalf. There are other spell users in various mythologies, but none approaches the fame of Merlin, although Dumbodore may be approaching fast.
7. Assassin: Hassan Sabbah, which type-moon used is an excellent choice, as assassins were named after him. Another good choice is something obvious to most Japanese: Hanzo Hattori.
GUTB,
4. They didn't "get it wrong" In that world King Arthur was a she. That's all.
5. There's a reason dating back to the third war as to why this is possible.
6. Throne of heroes exists outside of time. Past and future are irrelevant. Also, don't take the class distinctions so literally.
wontaek,
Different heroes are summoned in different wars. Several of the ones summoned in this war, including Saber, Archer, and Berserker were specifically summoned for certain reasons. Again, don't take the class distinctions or names so literally.
Also, Hassan, or rather the sect, are the only available assassins. Kojiro is a fluke/error.
What's the point of having classifications if they're not supposed to be taken literally? So it would be okay to have Caster summoned as a Berserker? Or have Saber come in as a Caster. I mean if you have to struggle to come up with a justification for a the class of summon, than you shouldn't have classification system. Frankly, there's no friggin way you can take a MAGE who's power is creating swords, and who's Noble Phantasam is making a magical reality bubble, into an Archer. That's just retirded and counter-logical. He'd be a Caster or possibly a Saber. EVen an Assassin is possible. Just don't know how you get Archer out of that.
Shiroh was in the archery club, and is an excellent archer. He just likes to wield swords from time to time.
Of course IIlya can count. Berserker had 12 lives, Archer killed him 5x and Rin killed him 1x. Hence 7 lives remaining. Granted that I've already seen the next episode, it makes sense.
What I didn't like was that stupic CGI dragon. That was really uncalled for. Afterall, what kind of message are they trying to send by having them starting to have sex, Shirou gets his arm bitten off, then he wakes up blushing. I guess that's what sex with a dragon feels like. lol
Fair point there, but gilgamesh, was clearly according to the babylonian tablets they found chronicling his tale, a swordsman and yet uses no bows whatsoever. In fact his noble phantasm is a sword that pretty much rivals that of Caliburn. How would you explain that? Besides it seems like the class Archer is sort of like a jack of all trades where he can summon, CQC and do ranged attacks.
dudes...ur all so dumb! they did not have sex u idiots! not too long ago, the thought of sharing a room with a girl made shirou red. and he had sex with a straight face...
plus, i like how saber covers her breast so shirou cant see, and how later in the series, they see each other naked in the bath, and both blush and look away.
so is it like" though ur crotch has gripped/penetrated my own, you must not see me naked! its too embarrasing"?. thats not likely.
and the next day the act as if they never had sex at all, which is how they should act. they only blush because shirou's arm is over saber.
he fell asleep during the spiritual transfer. the dragon bit his arm to get to his blood. his blood has some odd golden lines in it, thats his magic circuit. however so much blood was taken, and the bite was so painful, that shirou screamed in pain and faints.
the next morning saber apologizes for hurting him that much. and if rin cast the spell, it means she watched them have sex, its just all to wierd.
plus their love relationship only develops later...pretty wierd to have a relationship with someone after u already do them, right?

Hey, it wasn't a mistake. Archer killed Berserker four times in the previous episode. Rin killed Berserker once. Hence 12 - 5 = 7.
One of Archer's kills was his super-arrow pierce. The other one was the dual blade power-up -"i am the bone..." There is also another one with the 'unlimited blade works'. etc etc
Get it?
Also, it wasn't sex. He passed out already.
Sorry, if I'm sounding passionate, but please be careful with your judgements.
About the hercules 12 lives thing... You have to see it like this. He has 12 resurrection spells (as mentioned in the ep) so Kill him 12 hes outta resurrection spells. so he has a totall of 13 lifes.
The episode wasn't quite good cause of that dragon, but its my favorite.
I love seeing Saber being feminine and all those blushing.
I was actually watching with my mom and little siblings until the scene went to Rin holding and removing the tie of Saber, i was like.. what the hell, they'll do it! I stopped the dvd cause other people are watching.
I got really exited in seeing the sex scene so after they've all gone, i played the cd and i was like, it was a dragon?! xD lol
