I agree with you, I hope these people don't turn a good story like Evangelion into garbage. But I doubt they won't, at least for what i've seen tells me...

Oh yesah, I totally agree with you. I hate those weta characters designs, they look older, and misato;s clothe is not meant to be a suit...also the demeanor she is portrayed with..can't they understand Misato? ohh..I am so sad about this, I hope this is not definitive. And, the ambience, the atmospehre... evangelion is supossed to be more than a robot thing!, I don't like this weta version, looks so unlike eva, I mean, where is the gray?, the deolation ?the angst ?that was in every eva landscape and scene?, eva it was not just a "end of the world " serie.

Evangelion also had a human, social side, that would be chopped off in a hollywood version. Shinji's , rey's, misato;s way of being even asuka's were related in more than one way to the japanese society. It would be hard to understand shinji out of his circumstances, he would be just a cry babay, but he is not, he needs his japanese reality. He is the very thing that forms him ,just like the last episode says...

And also the eva;s look less more robotic than organic here..they are destroying evangelion..I hope I am wrong.

Well said Quest. This is just the beginning of a long arduous proyect. Nothing is written on stone. As much as I want the movie to be like the original I hope that they don't have an all Japanese cast though. That would be in contradiction to the originals, considering that all the characters in NGEvangelion had Japanese names but did not retain any Japanese looks. I mean come on! Almost none of those characters are even remotely Japanese looking. (like almost every anime and anime game they make)They are white, maybe even Hispanic or arabic or something else but what ever it is it is not Japanese. The original names don't work but neither do those new ones. (for the movie) They've got a lot of work to do. I don't want to sound narrow minded to the idea of an all japanese cast I'm just being frank. BP Phantom is one of a few animes that have japanese looking characters. THEY COULD PULL IT OFF! Not evangelion, and that blame goes straight to the creators. They should stop whitening up their creations if they want an all japanese cast. I can't see them as japanese. Sorry.

In A fist full of dollars, Clint Eastwood character was not named Yojimbo. The Japanese Spider-man is not Peter Parker, and in the remake of Ringu (The Ring) they did not keep the original names. So that was espected in Evangelion.

But i don't think that by it self means the movie is gonna be a bad one. I did like what I've seen so far.

They turned a 2000 pages comic in one movie in Akira (animated and not Hollywood but still)

Anime live action got westernized? I never heard such horsesh*t before. But still curious to watch the movie someday. Oh well, all I can say is that alot of Evangelion hardcore fans, especially in Japan will be dissappointed.

i am a devoted follower of evangelion and the idea of a live action movie for the eva series is brilliant but i am a rather bit worried that it wil spoil the whole eva franchise if it is changed to much. The names should stay exacly the same and the appearance or close but ehter way i cant wait for this movie to come out

if you followed the series, you'll notice that there were references to NERV branches outside of Japan. i believe there was a US branch, if memory serves me correctly. why don't they just create a story based on NERV US branch, that is if they can't remake the original characters properly. at least with this the 'damage' to the original series would be minimal... hah just can't imagine -- Susan Whitnell? Ray? what the f***!?

I am hoping for the best with this film. Actually, I've read a statement written by one of the producers that the plans might involve more than one film. In other words, a trilogy might be in store, with the first two movies being somewhat of a summary of the series and the third being a remake of the End of Evangelion. This sounds good to me; I just can't wait to see how WETA does the Eva battles. We have to have faith in this movie. Remember, WETA did the theatrical impossible by adapting the LOTR into live action, which had been said for nearly fifty years to be a complete and utter impossibility.

If you go to Weta Workshop's actual site and look up their current projects, they have Evangelion there. Also, the names of the characters are all spelled right. Thank god for that.

The movie is only going up to the angel Ramiel. It will not be doing the whole series.

If this movie bombs (and i hope it doesn't) I will cry!! I think changing the names is a bad idea, but it might help americans that don't watch the series. They won't be like " WTF? Why are they all japanese names?"

I agree with you too. For what i've heard and seen, this is going to screw up or ruin the series of the anime.And when I saw who would be acting in the movie,(i thought), I was sad and pissed off at the same time. I pray to God that the producers change their minds. I'm also a fan of the Evangelion series and if they make this movie, I'll pissed me off.(Here's some advice, if your a fan of the series and you get the movie, you'll be disappointed and I'd so pity you.)

You guys are aware that....The actual director of Eva the series is in charge of the live action, right? So, that's a comforting fact. Also, as a 3D Animation and Video Game Design major - I know quite a bit about the CG industry. For instance, it took 10 hours just to render Aslan - and that's not even animated, just turning the program visual into what it would actually look like. 10 hours they sat there waiting for it to load. Do you honestly think that Weta would spend more time than that just to make an actual 3D Version of the Evas to display in concept art just to ease the fans concerns? I don't think so. People should be more appreciative towards them for even attempting to make such a story into a live action.

The way they are changing all the names i wouldn't be surprised if they changed evangelion to something new.

I just hope to god it's not being made by an American. Not to sound offensive or anything, but most American directors would just make it all about the giant mecha fights, but that's not what evangelion was all about. At least for me it was more about the psychological side of it.

I think it is a terrible idea to have American's make a live action movie based on a Japanese series. Hollywood would just make it a CGI orgy of mech fights. I also dislike the idea of casting white actors in the movie. Its taking a shit on Asian actors (from the US) who keep on looking for roles that are not based stereotypes, especially the Asian American male. I believe that the film should be made in Japan. If Hollywood touches it then its just going to alienate the fans and turn off most movie goers. Its better to have that movie made where its from so it won't get tainted.
