I think the new OP/ED features awesome imagery and some of them suggests that we will indeed go into the Near/Mello arc. However, I am not really keen on the song that come with the OP/ED. I guess I'm just not into heavy metal/rock music like these. Anyway, this is probably the most boring point of the Yotsuba arc. I just think that the author tried to forcefully prolong the story. Thankfully the preview for next week's episode shows that things will be moving again. If I remember correctly, everything from this point forward should lead to the end of the Yotsuba arc. However, this also means that the dreaded plotline will come very soon. At a time like this, I wish I didn't know the plot already because I wonder how surprised I would have been. Anyway, if my guess is true, the current arc including the surprise ending will end either around episode 24. That would leave exactly 13 episodes to finish the rest of the story.
The episode begins with L and the others watching the surveillance camera that Wedy has planted inside the Yotsuba group's meeting room. From this camera, they hear the group talking about the death of their former associate, Hatori. One of the executives thinks that the situation couldn't be helped. He thinks Kira used Hatori's death to warn them of what would happen should they try to back out. The others agree and they move on to another topic at hand, shocking Light and the other policemen who observe the group. Meanwhile, the Yotsuba executives are unhappy that they've paid 5 million from Coil and yet the guy doesn't know L's real name or face. Having said that, Coil did warn them not to underestimate L. Coil thinks by scheduling the death to happen on Friday and Saturday will allow L to figure out the connection between those incidents and Kira. One of them agree that they should reconsider deaths on weekends.
Inside the hotel, Matsuda is glad because the Yotsuba group are giving out information like there's no tomorrow. Souichirou thinks that with this videotape, they can probably arrest these seven. L, on the other hand thinks that this is not good at all. Inside the meeting, one of the men complains about Kira's inflexibility in scheduling death. The man in the glasses agrees and thinks that now Coil knows about this, it'd be risky to continue killing at the same pace until they can be sure that no one else knows about this. The others agree and decide to move on to the next topic: who's to kill. One of them suggests that they kill someone from an Insurance company which is planning to launch in Japan in order to stop Yotsuba and other companies from losing clients. Light and Souichirou are shocked when they hear the group decide that the death will be by accident. Another then suggests that they kill a man who's been suffering from blood pressure by some kind of stroke.
Light points out that the men were asking for accidental deaths and death from stroke so this must be it. L disagrees because unfortunately those two whose name were mentioned is not dead yet. This statement shocks Light and Souichirou to say the least. L, however, ignores them and claims that if they observe the words and actions of these seven after meeting and the actions that they'll take until those two person mentioned die, then they will catch Kira without doubt. Light and Souichirou immediately scolds L and tells him that they can't possibly do it his way "Because it's wrong!". Light knows that L wants to let those 7 to kill someone so they can get Kira but he thinks they can't do this. Souichirou agrees that the tape plus Matsuda's testimony should be enough to establish evidence. To make things worse, they hear the Yotsuba guys deciding that the death will happen three weeks later for one target and this weekend for the other.
Souichirou realises that they don't have enough time so he asks Light if they have mobile numbers for the seven executives. Light understands that his father wants to use police to intercept the phone calls from one of those guys. L, however, disagrees with the plan because he doesn't trust the police. And if they miss their chance of finding out Kira, they'll be back where they started. L believes that in order to catch Kira, they need to obtain the evidence that proves Kira's existence. Upon hearing this L comes up with the idea of calling one of the seven executives because the chances that Kira will answer his call is 1/7. L thinks the chance was two people so he say 2/7. Light immediately tells L that he's going to pretend to be L and decides to make a phone call to the one who's most Kira-like. Everyone thinks it's Namikawa except Matsuda who thinks it's Ooi. L suggests that Light uses the phone in this building since they are untraceable and tap-proof.
Light then calls Namikawa, pretending to be L, informing Namikawa that there are cameras and microphones installed inside the room and they've recorded the group's conversation from Hatori's death to which person they're going to murder. "L" asks Namikawa to make a deal if he's not Kira or one who is directly connected with Kira. He wants Namikawa to postpone the murder of the two victims they intended. If he co-operates, "L" promises not to question him or the others for the murders that have been committed. Namikawa is torned up upon hearing this because he has no choice but to co-operate with L but if he does, Kira might find out and kills him. "L" suggests that Namikawa doesn't tell the others about the phone call so it doesn't induce panic. It won't do Namikawa any good and would just get everyone captured. "L" claims that his only concern is to find Kira. If L wins, he won't be charged for crime and if Kira wins, he can continue with his wealthy life.
"L" then suggests that the best thing that Namikawa can do right now is to play along with both sides and watch which one will win. However, he will lose if he gets caught now. Namikawa realises that "L" already knows his answer and decides to end the call. After the call ends, Namikawa suggests that they postpone the killing to give Coil 1 month to find L. And if Coil still can't find L, they will kill several at random dates. And continue for a month until they get rid of L. One of them agrees that they must focus on finding L first so they can eliminate the obstacle. Namikawa is relieved by this and hope that L is satisfied by this. Inside the hotel, L remarks that it seems Light's plan is working well. He praises Light for not only postponing the killing but for obtaining information from Namikawa. Moreover his method is similar to L's and Light got the idea before he did. L thinks that maybe Light can succeed th L name after he dies.
Light asks L not to say things like that and besides, they now have one month to find out Kira. L, however, asks Light if Light would take the position if he were to die. L quietly thinking that if Light is Kira and pretending then Light would say "Yes". Light wonders why L says this and wonders if they're not in this together. Suddenly the answer clicks to him. He then apologises to L because he's going to tell everyone what L thinks. Light believes that L thinks that if Light is Kira then Light either knows about this or pretending not to know. Or he thinks that Kira's power has passed on to other person and Light now has no recollection about it. Light believes that these are L's two thought patterns. Light understands that this means that L will never take the handcuff from him or let Light go free. Light believs that L thinks he's Kira and even if that power has passed onto another person, there is a way for that power to return to him.
In other words, L thinks that Light is not being manipulated but rather he gave the power away and when everyone is convinced of his innocence, Light plans on regaining his power. Light points out that to reach the same level as L and be in a position where one can manipulate the police would indeed be powerful. He believes that L thinks this is what Light would do. Light, however, wishes that by revealing this, L realises that he's not pretending. When L disagrees, Light grabs L's shoulder and turns him around and asks L if L thinks that after catching Kira, Light would become Kira. If L sees such human beings in front of him. L confirms this and admits he can see as such. In his anger, Light punches L while L kicks Light on the face. The two only stops after Matsuda separates them. Light and L agree that right now they should capture Kira in front of them. When Souichirou suggests that they use the video to capture the seven, L tells him that they are not certain if Kira is among those seven.
However, he's going to allow Souichirou to find ways to capture the seven while he's going to concentrate on capturing Kira. L then goes to Misa's room, asking her if she would choose Light or Kira. Misa claims that she would choose Light so L asks her to aid Light in capturing Kira. L plans on using Aiber to make the Yotsuba group think that Misa might know L due to her captivity a few months ago. Light is concerned that this will allow Kira to kill Misa but L thinks Misa won't die if they win. When Misa agrees to help L tells her that her love for Light is clearly the biggest. Misa is flattered by this and rewards L with a kiss. Although when L said that he might be in love, Misa suggests that they should just be friends. XD Misa then force L and Light to join her in a dance of friendship. Since Misa gets involved with the mission, Light agrees to join L's investigation instead of his father's. The episode ends with Souichirou realising that arresting the Yotsuba group will be a difficult task.

Impression:
I have to admit that at this point in time, the series has become needlessly complex. I just feel that the difference of opinion between L and Souichirou is superficial and is not really necessary to be placed in the story. And yet, because the author wants to prolong the story, it ends up being here anyway. A few weeks ago, they just established that they don't have enough manpower to do this investigation as they are now. And yet, despite this they decide to split the group into two anyway. The upside to this episode is that some of the scenes ended up being quite amusing. Misa kissing L was rather hilarious. Especially her reaction to L saying that he might be in love with her. I also couldn't help but laughing out loud when Misa, L, and Light do a circle dance together. That was one of the silliest dance I've ever seen and I find it hard to believe that Light would actually participate in it. The old Light would rather be dead, I believe.
Anyway, maybe I should be worried that the writer have run out of ideas to the point that the guy ended up resorting to ridiculous jokes but I can't help but being amused by those scenes. On a more serious note, I'm a bit disappointed by L's lack of moral code. He was right when he said that he's not that different from Kira and is willing to do anything to capture Kira, even if it means killing some innocent people. Plus, his treatment of Misa and Light are pretty shabby here. I guess he has a good suspicion that these two were the first and second Kira and refuse to let go of the idea. At the same time, this episode also shows that there are others who are worse than L and Light. The problem is, I'm not sure if that makes L or Light any better. I think the worst part about this is that some of the more decent characters like Matsuda and Mogi are often depicted as either dumb, annoying or not very important. It really gives impression that the more intelligence a person is, the more unpleasant they tend to be.

I have been waiting for that fight scene for SO LONG. XD
Both opening and ending look like some kind of psychedelic trip. BTW, am I the only one who thinks Aiber is hot? He reminds me of Aaron Eckhardt, the guy who will play Two-face in the next batman film.
one of the craziest op ever XD love Ryuuk in there... chasing the apple and dancing once he had it XD ahah. and the series of light laughing at the beginning is creepy XD
P.S- does misa look.... different? younger? maybe? in that op... i dunno.
IMHO, the opening and ending are pretty good and I don't mind the song. I kind of anticipated that both will get a rock song like Alumina somehow.
What a strange place to put a new OP/ED. I would think that they would wait until the new arc featuring Mello/Near come before doing this.
About the OP, the animation is good but the song doesn't fit Death Note at all
And lol at Ryuk dancing with that apple xD
Youtube new OP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOK5YmS2NaA
ffffffffffffffffff
AWWW, i wanted to see that part of Misa kissing L, also the expression of L in screenshot 30 is hilarious xP, and the opening looks really cool, all those colors are stunning, and finally we get to see some Mello and Near, shots, i just hope they don't put Mello with make up cause i see he looks like he has lipstick, God, he's not Marilyn Manson ¬¬
lol @ the opening song
No screenshot of Laughing Lights? No way....
MtH did the 1st ED for Akagi, which I loved. Very experimental, but these songs, no matter how much I love hardcore music, are very mediocre. They TRY TOO HARD. The trippy animation makes up for this.
So is boring arc boring? Ever since Light gave up his Death Note it's been a gradual slide down towards the pits...
*Sigh*....
I am honestly trying to find ways to like this series.
However..
After seeing the new OP/ED, I officially hate this anime with the exception that L is seiyuued by Kappei Yamaguchi. If it wasn't for L, I would have stopped watching by now.
It is just godawful...
I had no problems with it until I saw the new opening/ending and knew how many episodes were left.
I am also sadden that Hirano Aya is dumbed down to playing a shallow role. From being on top as Suzumiya Haruhi and to drop down to the depths of Hell as Misa in Death Note really frustrates me as a fan. I'm a big fan of Hirano Aya. I've liked her roles since Kiddy Grade.
*Sigh*....
Another thing that really really irritates me is the ending video. It literally spoiled the whole series, which was absolutely not necessary. if you don't believe me, look carefully. The Death Note Manga readers know what I am talking about. This was totally unnecessary.
I don't usually hate things...but this is just really bad. In fact, the second arc is even worse because it goes out of context. The production team is really following the manga.....which crushes my dream of hoping that it will stray away from the terrible storyline that takes place at vol 7 of the manga.
OMG!!! the new OP and ED so rock
after i hear it i feel dizzy (the world and aluminia was better than the new)
fuuny to see light and L fight
and L expression after misa kiss him ^_^
Wah!! The Opening was scary...the ending not so bad...T_T I wanna go back to teh nightmare songs!!!! Oh well, Ryuk is amusing as always. Woot
what a stupid oping~ ╮(╯_╰)╭
I agree, the new opening is much better than the previous. Death Note will run for 37 episodes.
I adored the new OP's scenes, but the song... Really, it doesn't match DN at all... I can't believe they screwed something that would be a fantastic OP with such a song...
DN manga readers who work their creativity a bit might also notice a few spoiler-ish images in the OP... As for the ED, I couldn't download it.
Anyway, I almost died laughing with the emo comments. *_*
The OP wins for being at the top on my top list of the worsts song inserted in an anime. I have never heard such a dreadful song in my entire life, watching anime.
The animation was more vibrant, though. Too bad that
it got stuck with this song.
Kyouya, if you hate this anime just because of the opening, you are a big BIG moron, grow up, seriously!
i guess people don't like the new opening cause the song is so hard rock, something that not any person likes, but since i like rock, heavy metal and that kind of stuff, i really liked the song, it reminds me of Slipknot :), but oh well...
So agreed, Tania.
I loved the OP, the animation was amazing xD, and the ED quality in YouTube was too crappy to notice any spoilers.. But as a fan of the series, and not some characters or isolated events, I'm still enjoying it up to the water-breaker.. Manga readers, you know what I mean.
Thanks for the review, Garten :D
new OP freaking rocks. it's hilarious but really awesome at the same time. and it sounds like they're saying bad things in the song too lol. way better than the nightmare songs.
Okay let me clarify something here since people are getting the wrong idea that I'm hating the anime just because of the new op/ed.
Tania and Sai-chan...
I understand you have a problem with what I said. Let me explain in more detail as to why I hated the opening and ending.
The reason I hate the opening was mainly for one reason and one reason only. They are planning to continue Death Note on the second arc with approximately 13 episodes left to go.
Let's face it. The second arc BLOWS. I like almost everything, whether it's food, culture, sports, instruments or anything in general. Despite that, Death Note was dead to me at vol 7 of the manga. I was watching the anime, hoping they would stray off from the manga storyline since that was done with the 2nd live action movie. It makes my assumption reasonable. After all, there are tons of animes that have strayed away from the manga, despite being finished. A perfect example of this is Scryed.
Yes, the music doesn't fit as well as I wanted...but my main point of hate still stands as the opening foreshadow the second arc will be included.
I have no problems with the animation or the creativity that was used for it (on the opening only). In fact, I think it's a big improvement from the first one. However, they did get lazy at the ending if you compare it to the first one, but that's whole different issue. Remember to not forget the unecessary spoiler that was included in the ending video.
Furthermore, I've notice that the pace for this series is too fast. It's going to end up faster when they go the second arc with only 13 episodes left.
You think I'm wrong? Then look at the facts. The first 6.5 vols of Death Note manga, which is the first arc, will cover about 24 episodes. How the hell is it that the second arc that takes up 5..5 vols will only take up 13 episodes?
Telling me to grow up? If you're going to disagree, at least put some effort into it. Don't settle a comment that an 8 year-old could say.
All,
Allow me to digress. Does anyone know if the Eastwood film "Letters from Iwo Jima" is going to be subbed in English?
- thanks in advance
Of course Letters from Iwo Jima is already subtitled in English; it was an American-produced film after all. It's currently playing in theaters and should be available on DVD in a few months.
"It literally spoiled the whole series, which was absolutely not necessary. if you don't believe me, look carefully. The Death Note Manga readers know what I am talking about."
Then it doesn't spoil anything. If you've already read the manga, there is nothing to spoil anyway. Of course they can always stray from the manga and of course any "hints" in the OP/ED could be just red herrings.
Chris,
Yes, it doesn't spoil anything.....for people who read the manga. However, you must realize that there are people out there who is watching the series that has not read the manga. There are times when production company create openings and ending that may contain some spoilers. For Death Note 2nd Ending, this is no little spoiler...this is a BIG spoiler. I believe it's important to show certain details that doesn't spoil the series, whether you have read the manga or not (i.e. Kekkaishi OP showing new characters that has yet to appear).
I still stand by my statement.
'Of course they can always stray from the manga and of course any "hints" in the OP/ED could be just red herrings.'
Very Unlikely.
No, you wrote "The Death Note Manga readers know what I am talking about.". So if I haven't read the manga, I can't tell that it spoils the ending unless someone (you) tells me it does.
Okay now you're just insulting viewers as if they are dumb to not figure out what I am talking about. Anyone could put two and two together. Openings and Endings have some meaning to show. It definitely connects to the storyline. Don't try to partonize the viewers, thinking they won't be able to figure it out.
So many ppl seem to find this Yotsuba arc boring. Not me. I think it is really enjoyable and i love how the story shows just how evil human beings can be.
And well eveyone is entitled to their own opinion i suppose. The second arc may be less "cool" but it is still amazing in its own rights. And if anyone is starting to hate the anime then they can just stop watching it now. It's as simple as that.
That's ridiculous to suggest that L is the same as Kira!!! point and fact... L could easily just kill light right now because he knows he's kira, but chooses to wait for evidence..he is very very different from light in this respect... If he had been more ruthless and just killed light he would'nt have died himself... L puts his own life on the line by waiting to make sure that light is guilty beyond all doubt (I think his attachment to light at this point is interferring with his judgement).
He's not anywhere near the level of ruthlessness of light. Even mello and near would have definitely gotten rid of light at this point. L doesn't. He's different.
KYOUYA YOU FUCKING TARD!!! IF YOU'VE READ THE MANGA YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT'S COMING AND IF YOU DIDN'T YOU WON'T GET IT ANYWAY. SO IT DOESN"T SPOIL SHIT.
If you don't like the new opener/ending BIG FUCKING DEAL... they're less than 2 minutes... GET OVER IT!
p.s. I've read and re-read the manga many times... while the 2nd arc isn't as good as the 1st, its still blows away 99% of the anime out there.
I stopped reading the manga for months after being devestated by chapter 58, but after picking it up again I really really enjoyed it.
Everyone... you still have a LOT to look foreward to!!!
Guys, please play nice. There's no need to resort to rudeness to your fellow poster(s). You can have different opinion without having to name-calling the person you're disagreeing with. In fact, less people will take you seriously if you start name-calling someone just because you disagree with his/her opinion.
How typical.....resulting to using swear words when you can't even reason calmly. Besides, why in the world do you care so much as to what I have to say? This is not my blog. It's Garten's. I know tons of people who agree or disagree with what I have to say. It shows that many disagree what I have to say on Death Note, but it has been proven that some people agree with what I have to say with other series (i.e. Nodame Cantabile).
Last time I checked, there is a such thing called Freedom of Speech. I don't understand why you are so angry for. No one can always have the same taste. It's not humanly possible.
For your information, I have continue reading Death Note after chapter 58 also. In fact, I am actually 2 volumes away from finishing it. I may not enjoy it but I plan to finish what I started.
Also, do you really...and I mean really...think that Madhouse could pull something really good for the 2nd arc with 13 episodes? It covered about 48% of the whole series in general. I still think it's impossible unless they really cut corners. Even Garten agrees that the mangaka is dragging the 1st arc a bit.
And stop exaggerating. To say that it is better than 99% of anime out there is ludicrous. You can argue it's better than majority of animes out there...but don't exaggerate.
Lastly, be civil. You don't see Garten saying swear words left and right on his blog. Do you know why? Because he's civil and expresses his opinions calmly. In fact, I think you're the only one in this whole web site who used that much profanity at once.
You don't have to care what I have to say. That's fine. If you can prove to me with logic and legit evidence that Death Note is a good series, then I'll take it under consideration. I may or may not agree with your reasoning, but at least proves to me how passionate you are with the series. More importantly, I'll respect it.
So until someone does that, I don't see why I should care about a poster who does nothing but swear and advise me to do such a thing without reasoning and logic.
As I have said before, logical reasoning leads to reasonable doubt. If you want to prove me wrong, then you know what to do.
"If you can prove to me with logic and legit evidence[...]"
Richard Dawkins, is it you? You may be correct or not, but your arrogance certainly isn't any advantage.
Logic and evidence may be good and all, but the manner in which you insist on "being civil", "reasoning calmly" etc. is, well, a bit self-righteous.
Chris,
apparently you didn't finish reading what I wrote. I'm not being arrogant. I'm just sticking to my conviction until people can show me why they think Death Note is a good series. Personally, I don't really care if I'm right or wrong. I rather be wrong by posters showing me why I'm wrong, but they haven't done that. All they did is just insult me for what I wrote or just writing a small comment with nothing to support it.
ibatum,
And how is being civil and reasoning calmly considred to be self-righteous? That's how society is suppose to work. Why do you think we have law and order for? This is no different. Garten wants us to be civil by not bashing other people, which makes sense. This is his web site and his rules. I'm not going to go against that. Plain and simple.
Wow, kiddies, let's play nice, shall we? I don't know what the deal is but, in practically every forum I've been in, I've noticed that discussion about DN usually dissolves into name-calling at some point. Sad, really. I guess some people can't distinguish between discusion and personal attack.
Anyway, I have to agree with Kyouya's opinion of the series after vol. 7. I really, REALLY did not care for the way the manga-ka handled that little plot twist -- it was just too contrived and full of itself, and the whole story suffered for it. After that, I didn't actually read Death Note so much as angrily skim through to the end. Even now, when I watch an episode or two, it's to look at the animation (which is gorgeous) and listen to the music. I've given up on the story.
But as for the new op and ed, I have to say that I really like them! I'm not generally a fan of quasi-pseudo-death-metal, but these songs really appeal to me for some reason. I know some people think they don't fit the series, but actually, I think their manic qualities work well to symbolize the panic and disorder of the society in the story. Plus, as Kyouya already pointed out, the pacing at this point is only going to increase, given the number of volumes they have to get through with the remaining number of episodes, and I think they echo that as well. As for the spoilers, my general opinion is: Meh. If people figure it out, good for them; if not, they'll have it spelled out for them soon enough. I don't really think it's that shocking though, considering the nature of the story. But then, that's just my opinion. ;)
This is my humble opinion. The opening and closing theme songs were not my piece of cake, although ,it did showcase interesting traits of the characters. As much as I like Hirano Aya, I don't find her portraying misa as degrading at all. If anything I think it shows she is versatile. Personally I find her portrayal quite true to the character in the manga. I don't think that one should judge the seiyu so harshly when it is the character you do not like. Finally, I totally agree with ibatum, I like the Yotsuba arc, and think this part is my favourite.

'As much as I like Hirano Aya, I don't find her portraying misa as degrading at all. If anything I think it shows she is versatile. Personally I find her portrayal quite true to the character in the manga.'
I can see that being true. In this case, I guess I just don't like the idea of someone like her playing a character I despise. I'm used to seeing her playing other roles that suits her real attitude (she is seriously energetic). That being said, I can't ignore that she is versatile. Thanks for pointing that out, Kirs
Hmmm this is rather interesting..
Internet = Serious Business.
This is becoming a catfight, its ok if some people dont like the op or the yotsuba arc, and what its coming, yeah, its true that the manga started to be boring after vol 7 with what it happened(all the DN manga readers know what i'm talking about), but who knows?, maybe the animators will handle it somehow in order to make the next arc interesting , we havent seen anything and i think all the VA are doing a great job, yeah, i don't really like Miyano Mamoru as light but not because he's doing it wrong, i just think his voice doesn't fit Light at all, specially when he is better known as Tamaki.
Tania,
At least I found common ground with you there. Personally, I don't like Miyano Mamoru as Light because he doesn't sound evil enough. However, I remember that in the Yotsuba arc he 'forgets' everything. Putting that into consideration, I understand why the production team put Miyano Mamoru as Light. There are better seiyuus who could do a better job. It is also possible that their latest roles from other animes (Mamoru as Tamaki in Ouran & Hirano Aya as Haruhi in Suzumiya) has given them an edge to at least audition for the role or landed them the role. Think of it as 'go with what's popular' (In other words, trend). I don't know if it's true...for all I know, I could be wrong. Still, I do agree with you that Miyano Mamoru does not fit because he is not experienced enough to play different personalities. For example, he is more experienced as one of the likeable male characters (i.e. Ouran Koukou Host Club, Eyeshield 21 and Tokimeki Memorial -Only Love-).
Wow......how many replies do u want to post? do u like check this page every minute to see if someone can prove to you that the series is good? lol....
well i agree that the anime really is going downhill but i watch it just cause i'm bored... i haven't read the manga but my friend told me about the 2nd arc, and she really didn't want to read till the ending due to it being such a let down. But who knows, manga and anime can be different in the fact that how they present the information to the viewers can be interesting. i dislike the yotsuba arc cause its just really random and its not very interesting...its like the guy who decided on having this arc is introducing it just for the sake of wasting and making more episodes.
As for the OP and ED, its ok.......i listen to everything from classical to hardcore rock but the song and the clips didn't really go together.... For the OP, DN is meant to be mysterious and philisophical to try and portray images of human nature but the song doesn't seem to suggest that.... that song would be more suited for something like a horror anime but doesn't really work for DN. The ED was well....as u said spoils it for people who haven't read the manga and people who have read the manga... but hey they ran out of stuff to unclude...happens to alot of anime's,,,,u see random characters in the OP and ED which haven't even appeared yet.
'But who knows, manga and anime can be different in the fact that how they present the information to the viewers can be interesting'
Cross,
I would love to believe that if it was true. Sadly, it's not since all 20 episodes came straight from the manga (Scene by Scene, Dialog by Dialog).
But...
I'm not going to rule out the possibility. It is possible that can happen in the 2nd arc since it is only 13 episodes. It's a good assumption but we'll see how it goes. It's too early to say since the 2nd arc has yet to air.
I think I know how the anime could shrink to fit the last arcs in 13 episodes:
Spoilers for the manga Vol 7-12
The new opening sequence is pretty damn awesome. L spinning around, Ryuuk dancing, Raito being spied on, not to mention the insanity at the end. XD I'm a little "meh" over the song, though. It sounds like a lot of screaming, really. It does fit the crazy opening sequence; just not the series. But then again, I have yet to read past Chapter 68 (I got bored and decided to take a break - I wonder when I'll actually start again T_T;;), so maybe it does fit the second half of which I know practically nothing about.
I don't care for the ending theme, nor the sequence, though one scene really stood out to me (no, not the nekkid!Raito one, as much as I enjoyed it XD). I get the feeling that was the spoiler. If so, it's a good thing that I've already been spoiled (accidentally) by Wikipedia. (...Or not. T__T)
As for the episode itself, I've been waiting to see L and Raito punching each other (again) and the L&Raito&Misa BFF!!1! circle. XDD Two of my favourite DN moments, right there.
Anyway, concerning Miyano Mamoru... I personally think he's doing a fantastic job. In the beginning, I thought hearing his voice out of Raito was weird, too, since I'd become so used to his role as Tamaki. But as the series went on, I think Mamoru really grew in his role and it shows whenever Raito has an "evil moment". His voice becomes much deeper, evil, and threatening. The only thing that occasionally sounds a bit awkward, is whenever he starts laughing evilly (which also amuses me, because I automatically think, "...XDDD! You can't do evil laughs! How cute!"). I can imagine it's really hard to accept Mamoru in a role other than Tamaki, though, since that role was more than absolutely perfect for him. (Note that I'm a Mamo fangirl, so I might be biased. A little. Really.)
And as a final comment... Garten, your "emo" captions are WIN. Especially the "naked emo" one. XD

Here's my idea: Rocks fall, everybody dies. ^_^
Ahh! Arguments. >
MISA = pure hotness!!!!
that aside ED #2 is kickass
Even though I don't like the new op and ed as much as the old one, I will give them props for what I think is the Gates of Paradise by Ghiberti in the ED. That's just a cool art reference if it is one.
I advise everyone who disliked the new OP/ED to g/b2/generic jpop ASAP.
I dug the ED, but I didn't care for the OP song very much. Both animations are REALLY cool, as far as I'm concerned, regardless if they do happen to spoil something. But as it was pointed out, while some people might put two and two together, the viewer may not get the significance of the ED unless people say it.
For the record, it annoys the hell out of me when people complain about the Yotsuba arc, because I think its a very clever and just as gripping part of the story. Personally, I think people only have a grudge against it for one specific reason, all tied in with Volume 7 and the ED of the anime. And, seriously, if that's the only reason a person is into Death Note for, well, it wasn't the series for them.
Wow, I have to say that was truely amazing episode 20 made me laugh. When Misa Misa made them all dance around in a circle. Wow super kawaii of her. And L is just so adorable I love the fact that he is some what friendless just like moi.
WHY ALL THE PEOPLE SAY THAT THE NEW OPENING DOESN'T FITS DEATH NOTE?? this anime-manga is very obscure (especially the manga) so what's the problem? I don't understand, because A LOT OF ANIME FANS LIKE VISUAL KEI -> Dir en Grey for example.
You have to like this opening because:
* It's experimental
* it's psychotic like Death Note itself
* It contains the important characters
* It shows L doing a flying kick xD
* Light walking while Mikami and Mello are looking at him looks ultra cool :D
* each sequence is like a piece of art
* Think of it like a Hardcore Furi Kuri version of DN
and the reason they put this opening in this part and not after Mello and Near appears is because it has L ALIVE!
if they had put it in just after that tragic episode then this opening will NOT HAVE SENSE with L in it.
If you really love this series please don't ask for a Girlish-Bubble-Gum-J-Pop opening in it, the openings and endings are both great! >:(
Mirari, agree to you 100% :)
Mirari, I agree with you. It astounds me how fast people can judge a new OP without considering why it might be done that way.
Frankly, now that I've seen this OP for a while, I don't know how much better they could have made an OP for DN. It totally reflects how psychotically messed the characters involved with the DN become. The first OP was so tame compared to this one. This OP was in your face, bluntly showing how demented someone can become when corrupted by power.
As for complaining about the story. Well, unfortunately, no author is perfect, and if you don't agree with what they wrote, then don't read or watch it. There is no reason for anyone to be flaming here about the story line. I would sincerely like to see them do better.
And compared with the live action movie, I'm very glad they stuck with the original manga in the anime, even though it was very creative how they ended the movie...
Could you please reupload the second OP in PSP format on Rapidshare? Thanks.
Hee, I got this from googling for the sparkly circle dance... I'm making it my desktop background. The opening images are amusing, though the music is really bad... It sounds bad for death metal/whatever it is, which I don't like in the first place. Death Note deserves much better.
The ending is only spoilery if you already know what's coming. The end of a series could depicit Light and L walking off into the sunset holding hands and skipping, does that make it a spoiler? No .Let me give you another example: In one of my favorite series, the ED shows the main character getting shot to death. But he doesn't, in the end he wins the fight. By saying the ED is spoilery actually spoiled the people on this blog, because now they DO know that what happens in the ED also happens in the series.
I like the opening theme. I thought the first one was boring and forgettable. I did like the first ED just a bit better (it was very pretty and symbollic. ) but I like the second ED too. But yeah, the opening is a MAJOR improvement.
Why did that send three times? XD; Sorry.
