Opening Theme: 「Coyote」 by Naoki with Power Sound - AVI format
Hmm, this is already the second episode and I'm still not sure what to make of the series. I think the things that attract me the most have been the opening and ending theme as well as the background song. The opening theme is vibrant and suggests excitement and like I said on last week's recap, it reminded me of 80s mecha series theme. The background song is also equally pleasant and made up of mostly jazz tracks. Having said that, I am still not completely sold on the character design, which although high in quality, often looks rather strange especially in Angelica's case, where her mouth looks unusually big. I am also not sure if I like having Marciano Sisters as the main adversary for the Coyote group because they're too dumb for a supposedly high-tech robots. Anyway, if you're looking for the PSP version of the OP and ED, I'll try to make them after I write the summary.

The episode begins with a girl laying on a bed while looking at a photograph of herself, Mister, and her father. The girl then opens her arm and reveals a sparkling blue pendant. After the opening, Angelica has recruited Chelsea as her assistant and the later now informs Angelica that Mister's name while remaining in the prison was Luis Gonzales. Angelica, however, tells Chelsea that the guy's real name is unknown. But she thinks he's a second class pirate, a romantic and an egoist. In short, he's a Coyote. Meanwhile, 'Mother', or 'Madam' is in the middle of receiving impeachment trial from the Guild. They are not happy that she used the 12 Marciano sisters in an attempt to kidnap 'Mister'. The Guild now wants to know what she's hiding and what is she trying to obtain from the Coyote. Back to Angelica, she asks Chelsea what she can understand from the information in front of her. Chelsea can't come up with an answer so Angelica tells her it's prison term.
Angelica knows that Mister only has 10 more days to his prison term that means there must be something important that caused him to break out of the prison. At the same time, 'Madame' has ordered the Marciano Sisters to perform a coup d'etat on the Guild by pointing laser gun at its members. Somewhere else, Katana and Bishop, two of Mister's colleagues are seen fixing their ship while listening to a TV news about how Graceland are going to be destroyed by nukes in 7 days. In the middle of listening to the news, however, a DJ-like personality who calls himself Super Soul. Meanwhile, Katana has finished repairing the ship and therefore wins a bet which involves obtaining Bishop's watch. As it turns out, these three are now on a planet called Ku-Rong and on this planet, there is a bar full of Pirates listening to news of Mister's escape from Sandvil prison. A fight then happens between the pirates but it quickly ends when a little girl hits one of them with a frying pan.
The girl is called Franca and she is not pleased that the pirates conduct their fight in her bar. Not long after this Mister appears in the bar and asks the little girl if she has grown while he's away for one year. He immediately gets a slap as an answer. Later on, Mister approaches Franca while she's playing Harmonica on the roof. She asks him why he escape from jail when he only has 10 more days to his prison term. She guesses that it's because Graceland will disappear soon so that means the treasure will be gone. Franca thinks that Mister's effort in taking care of her will be in vain if he doesn't ask her where the treasure is located. Mister, however, denies this and asks Franca to remember what happened: his father was killed by the Guild because he left something there. He thinks Franca wants to find out what that something and he wants to take her there. Franca accuses Mister of lying and that the thing that he and the other Pirates want are her father's treasure.
Their argument, however, is interrupted by the arrival of the Marciano Sisters in town. August asks the other why 'Mother' doesn't just target Franca since she's the one who knows where the treasure is at the moment. The other sisters, however, believe that there must be a reason why even Mister hasn't asked Franca about the location of the treasure. Meanwhile Mister tries to contact Katana and Bishop but can't seem to do so. The reason is because they and everyone inside the bar are currently under attack. Katana and Bishop manage to run away to an underground sewer just as the bar is destroyed by a blast which kills everyone else. Meanwhile back in Sandvil, Angelica is frustrated because she can't get any flight out of the city and can't get in touch with the police in Ku-Rong. She believes that they are getting paid by the Guild. When Chelsea tells her that she understood, Angelica loses it and tells her that it seems Chelsea's good points are only her memory and her boobs.
Chelsea proudly tells Angelica that her boobs is good for getting her invited to parties and making a lot of friends. As she says this, she flashes a book full of her contacts. Upon seeing the note and notices Super Soul's name, Angelica tells Chelsea that she's got nice boobs. Meanwhile Mister is in the middle of securing some weapon while Franca reminisce about the time when her father died and entrusted his pendant and Franca to Mister. In the present time, Franca knows that her pendant contains the lead to the treasure. She decides to give it to Mister because he didn't steal it from her all of these times and instead stayed with her and run the bar. Before Mister can answer Franca, a helicopter appears from outside the window. Mister and Franca tries to escape but soldiers shower them with bullets. Mister decides to send a rocket launcher down their way so they can run away safely. Unknown to either of them, a soldier manages to shoot a tracking device into Franca's ass.
The two eventually make their way into the lift but one of the sisters are ready to capture them when they get downstairs. Imagine her disappointment when she only finds a rat inside the lift. Mister and Franca, on the other hand, make their way up to the rooftop. When another helicopter corners them, Franca decides to send a grenade towards its way, promptly destroying the chopter. The blast, however, also sends herself and Mister off the building. Thankfully Mister manages to catch her arm before she plummets down. Meanwhile, Marciano Sisters find out that they've been disconnected from mother and in their signal, they instead hear Super Soul. It appears that Chelsea has contacted the guy and ask for his assistance. At the same time, Katana and Bishop finally arrives at the hangar where their ship is located. They immediately start the engine and leave the place to look for Mister and Franca.
Speaking of the two, they are still dangling at the rooftop and Mister starts to lose grip of the edge. Franca asks Mister to let her go and promises to throw the pendant at him. Mister, however, refuses to do this. Franca tries to tell him that he's done enough taking care of her for 3 years. Franca tells Mister to let go of her, she'll throw her pendant up to him so he can catch it. There's no way he'd do that, of course. Franca says he's done enough taking care of her for three years. She thinks once he finds out the location of the treasure, he won't need her anymore. Mister denies that he's doing this for the pendant. The real reason he's doing it is for Franca. At the same time, August finally arrives on the rooftop so Mister decides to let go of his grip and falls while protecting Franca with his own body. Before they can plummet down into the ground, however, Katana and Bishop manage to catch their bodies with their ship. The episode ends with Franca telling Mister that she does want to come with him and his gang to look for his father's treasure.
Impression:
This was not as exciting as last week's episode mostly because I am already aware of what the Marciano Sisters are capable of. Having said that, this episode features some good character development for both Mister and Franca. At the moment, it appears that Mister genuinely cares for Franca. Having said that, it's possible that the reason he does this is because he needs her to find the treasure. At the moment Katana and Bishop don't seem to be that important but I'm sure that will change in the future. I'm curious to see what 'Mother' or 'Madam' actually want from Mister and why she doesn't just kidnap Franca since she's the one who has the pendant. I still don't see how relevant Angelica and Chelsea would be in this series. Their interference in this episode was amusing but I'm not sure if it was that much of a help for Mister.

Ending Theme: 「薄らぐ記憶」 (Usuragu Kioku) by Sana - AVI format
Wow, a claymation ED. I think this is my first time to see one. I must say this ED theme looks awesome and the song goes well with the imagery.
Honey & Clover OP1 doesnt really count as claymation, does it? It wasn't clay - I'm pretty sure there was a dvd feature with them making all that food... or was it?
Hmm that's true. It's more like stop motion isn't it? Although claymation is a branch of a stop motion animation too. Anyway, I'll call it stop motion just to be on the safe side ^^;;
I agree. I love the bgm. I'm surprised you enjoyed the ED sequence. I couldn't stand it, which is wierd since I liked H&C OP. and Yes, Angelica's lips are super thick... bad make up perhaps? ^^
UFO Table, for reasons beyond me, seems obsessed with claymation endings. This is the third time they have used a claymation ending for one of their shows though I can’t really complain since it always turns out great.
I don’t think Angelica’s big mouth (and the same goes for Franca) is a cause to hate the character designs. For me, this is a sign of quality and professionalism. The animators are trying to make the characters look as realistic as possible. Most anime shows ignore drawing lips for characters and they only draw a simplistic hole in the face to represent the mouth. It’s nice to see the animators going through the trouble of drawing real lips for a character. Just compare them to the designs in Blood+ or Monster then you may find it easier to accept them. (^_^)
and Yes, Angelica's lips are super thick... bad make up perhaps? ^^
I get the impression that the animators drew her with Angelina Jolie as inspiration. Maybe they did this series not long after Mr and Mrs Smith was out.
Her glasses totally throws me off. There's not actual real lenses in them.
Futakoi Alternative (also by UFOtable) has a claymation ending sequence. My guess is they're doing it out of tradition now :P
Their prior two projects, '2x2=Shinobuden' and 'Futakoi Alternative', also used Claymation EDs. In the case of 'F.Alt', there were a total of three different Claymation EDs, and countless Claymation Eyecatches.
Cheers.
They do have clayman but somehow this is completely different.
The others didn't remind me of Team America like this one did.
I was laughing my ass off.
Okay, forget the claymation discussion for a sec when there are bigger mysteries afloat. Namely, why does Angelica say that her sidekick has huge boobs when it's obvious Angelica sports the double-d? :D
