I'm sorry for the delay but I ended up going out with some friends to see Death Note live action. It's a rather good film and I'll write about this as soon as I finished this one. Anyway, this is not a bad first episode at all. I like the killer robotic maid and the 80s style opening theme. It reminds me of old anime series for some reason. There is no official opening this time around and the opening theme is placed at the end of the episode with only scrolling credits to accompany the song, Coyote. I decided not to make a PSP file out of it since there's nothing much to see out of the opening. But I've created an AVI file for those who want to watch the credit/listen to the song.
Coyote Ragtime Show OP Theme (credits only, AVI file)

The episode begins with a woman asking a flight attendant to give her 2 bento box. The woman then proceeds to gobble the foods in the box. Later on, the same woman is seen exiting airport with a burger in her mouth. The woman, who turns out to be an agent of the United Government called Angelica Bahms, is then greeted by a local policewoman Chelsea Muir. The two then proceed to take a car together where Angelica reveals that this is the first time she's arrived at Sandvil. While the two are talking, the driver is seen popping a bubblegum all over his face much to Angelica's annoyance. The car then passes by a strange rotating device which according to Chelsea is an 'insect repellent'. She explains from the guidebook that large bugs are the main attraction of the city but in order to protect people from the bugs, they used sound to control the creatures. As soon as Chelsea finished her explanation, a huge bug can be seen going out of a ground and back into it.
The car eventually arrives at a maximum prison, which is equipped by many 'insect repellents'. They are immediately greeted by Frank Daston, the Governer of Sandvil. Before Angelica can pass the security, however, she must show what's inside her suitcase so she opens it and reveals a large amount of artillery. Angelica, however, has the permission to use them so she can pass the area. Angelica then asks the co-operation of the Governer in her attempt to look for a particular man. A man who's been known as John Smith, Richard Phillips, Jonathan Chrissy, etc. In other words, the man has been using a lot of fake names but is actually one person called "Mister". Angelica has been getting a tip that Mister will jailbreak today but the Governer does not believe her words. Their conversation, however, is interrupted when a phone rings and a man, who looks similar to the driver at the start of the episode, tells him that he has installed 20 bombs inside the prison.
The Governer does not believe the guy until the bomb goes off in the prison. Because of this they have no choice but to call a Bomb Diffusion Team. Angelica wants to come into the prison as well but one of the team members stop her from coming in. Angelica is suspicious of the man because of this she asks Chelsea to see the car that they use to come here. Meanwhile inside the prison, one of the bomb difuser seperates himself from the others and make a phone call to the man who took Angelica and Chelsea to this place. At the same time, Angelica and the others find out that underneath the car seat, there is an empty area which the driver possibly used to hide the explosives. That means when the driver used the fact that Angelica will be carrying a weapon to cover up the fact that there is an explosive inside the car as well. Angelica also thinks that the group is waiting for something before breaking out from a prison.
At the same time, a mysterious-looking woman is informed by someone that they've found the man they've been looking for. Because of this the woman gives an order for her henchwomen to invade the prison. From the prison, Angelica can see 12 maid descending into the prison using parachutes. She immediately recognises them as Madame Marciano's 12 sisters, professional serial killers. The sisters begin to cause destruction and massacre every single prison guards in the prison. These girls clearly possess non-human powers because three lolis can be seen throwing a humongous truck with their bare hands while other uses her power to find the location of the man that they're looking for. Since the sisters can't find the location, they decide to hold the Governor hostage but he tells them he doesn't know who they're looking for either. Before one of the sisters can finish off the Governer, however, Angelica manages to fire a shot at the sister.
This sister, however, has the speed of lightning because she manages to avoid all bullets that Angelica shoots at her. She then proceeds to run towards Angelica, ready to impale the other woman with her hands. Before she manages to do this, however, a target missile can be seen hovering behind the sister back and promptly blown the girl to pieces, revealing the fact that she's a robot. The guy who fired the missile is revealed to be an old man who according to Angelica is the "Mister" that everyone has been looking for. The Marciano sisters immediately point their guns toward him and tell the guy that "Mother" wants to talk to him. "Mister" of course refuses and despite his disagreement with Angelica, he doesn't seem to want to harm the Agent. Angelica asks him if this is the event that he was waiting for to break out of the prison. "Mister", however, tells Angelica that the event he's waiting for is the one similar to Diamond Head.
"Mister" then orders one of his colleague to open the steel door using the computer. Angelica has no choice but to accept defeat and takes the remaining of the guards who are still alive inside the bunker. It seems the event that that "Mister" is waiting for is known as "Tsunami", which is basically the arrival of the giant bugs. "Mister" has turned off the 'Insect repellent' and therefore, allows the bugs to swarm the prison area. Angelica and the rest of the humans are saved inside the protected bunker but the Marciano's sisters get trampled by the bugs. In the morning after, a group of man in black arrives to pick up the destroyed body of the Marciano's sisters. Chelsea attempts to stop them but fails miserably since the Marciano has connection to the police. Chelsea is depressed about this and wants to stop being a police so Angelica offers her a new job. At the same time, one of the jailbreakers gives "Mister" a picture of himself and a little girl called "Franca".
Impression:
I think that was a decent first episode. I am not particularly impressed with the character design but the music and the animation are quite good. The only annoying thing about the show is its tendency to use 'terms' to describe something. In a similar way, Cowboy Bebop also used the same method but that show was not as obvious about it. I am actually not sure who is the main character in the series. The first episode seems to focus heavily on Angelica but the main site suggests that "Mister" and his criminal group are the main focus of the series. What excites me the most about the series is the sense of a sprawling world. Even Sandvil in itself feels like a universe on its own, complete with its wildlife bugs. I also like the villain of the piece, Marciano's sisters. While I don't want them to appear over and over again I hope they'll make one more appearance in the future. Besides, I'm sure "Mother" is not happy with what happened in this episode.
T_T from the preview, I thought those cute triplets were good girls... NO~~ change them into angels!! right now!!
Why did they have that LET'S MINDLESSLY KILL EVERY INNOCENT SECONDARY CHARACTER! scene? I'm trying to like this, but I can't if the writers are going to be completely amoral...
They're robots? Nooooooooo!!!! They were my raison d'etre for this series!
ARRGGGHHHH!!!!
That is some fantastic artwork, hopefully the quality stays decent after this episode.
Looks like a really cool show. I will have to check into this more.
It looks cool~ it looks like a "must-see." I hope the animation quality lasts throughout the production.
More blood, please...
Is really a very nice anime but unfortunely I don' t see any fansub group doing this anime.
gg is subbing it~
Finally got around to watching the fansub. Keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of the season. :)
Hello there, can anyone tell me where to get the raw? I found one, but... mkv vfr = eek!!
One mistake: The bullets Angelica fires at the sister who holds up the warden doesn't dodge them, they just deflect off her.
