I have to admit that I don't hate this one. Sunrise could have ended the series in an over-the-top manner but they chose to go with a more mellow resolution. A resolution that really gives a lot of credence to Lelouch as the main protagonist of the series and I appreciate that in a series. I see that a lot of people are in rage over his death but this is the only way his plan can work. Unfortunately a lot of details have been ignored to facilitate this ending. I can definitely use a lot more closing on several supporting characters, especially C.C. I also think that at the end of the series, we still didn't get a complete resolution of Britannia vs. Japan conflict although I assume with Nunnally in charge, things will change for the better. I'll talk more about that after the cut but in general, I feel that the episode left a better impression of the series for me than otherwise it'd have been. I feel that this is the reverse of Mai Hime, where the ending made me completely disgusted for that series. I don't think I'll ever list either series as one of my favorite series but at least with Geass, they don't squander Lelouch's character development for some over-the-top joke or complete reset of what he's done so far.
Continuing from the previous episode, Lelouch figures out that Nunnally was the one who's been firing all of the FLEIA thus far. She clearly needs a video game so she can channel her twitchy finger on something less destructive. At the same time, Kallen and Suzaku are facing off. Kallen thinks Suzaku and Lelouch wants to rule the world so she wants to put a stop to this. Back to Lelouch, Nunnally tells Lelouch that although Lelouch claims that he did this all for her, she didn't want any of it. She'd be quite happy living peacefully with him. Up in the sky, Jeremiah are fighting against Anya and manages to defeat her. Before he can deliver a killing blow to the loli, however, she tells a sob story about not having memory. At the same time, Kallen and Suzaku's fight manages to reach an end when Kallen manages to lodge Guren's hand into Lancelot's body. As Kallen plummets from the building, Lancelot explodes in style, making it seems like Suzaku is dead in the process. Back to Lelouch, he finally has had enough and decides to geass Nunnally. Nunnally tries to resist but it doesn't take long before she's all smiles and present the key to Lelouch. Yikes! There's something scary about happy/smiling pink-haired girl under geass' control.
When Nunnally realizes what she's done, she's horrified and tries to stop Lelouch but since she hasn't been walking for a while, she ends up falling flat on her face. I don't think this is meant to be hilarious but it came out that way anyway. Meanwhile, Kaguya tells C.C that maybe she should beg for Lelouch's life but C.C tells the girl that it's not until now that she knows Lelouch's true face but she thinks Kaguya knows his real nature. Back in the sky, Lelouch announces that he now has control of Damocles and that Schneizel and Kannon are now his bitches. Everyone else will also be his bitches so Britannia soldiers and Orange goes "All Hail Lelouch!! All Hail Lelouch!!" For some reason, there's something strangely satisfying about this. In the aftermath, Lelouch is crowned as world leader and parades the street while people are bitching about him behind his back. The ceremony, however, is interrupted when Zero suddenly appears in the crowd and evading bullets like energizer bunny. Everyone is shock to see this since Lelouch is up there on the stage and even more so when Zero starts to climb up the float to attack Lelouch. Orange, who's in on the plan, simply lets Zero get close to Lelouch so the two can execute the plan.
Through a flashback, it's revealed that it's Lelouch wish that a surviving Suzaku kills him in front of the mass. His plan all along was to focus everyone's hate on him then erase himself from the world so the hatred will also disappear. This way the world can progress through dialogues and not through war. Inside a church, C.C looks sad as she realizes that Lelouch is willing to die for misusing his Geass. With that said, Suzaku as "Zero" stabs Lelouch, effectively killing his friend. As Lelouch falls from the stage, Nunnally approaches and touches his hand. In the process, she gets a flashback of Lelouch and Suzaku's plan and understand everything. Kallen also understand the whole thing and decides to play up the whole Zero is savior angle. In the aftermath after Lelouch's death, Kallen tells him that the world becomes a much better place. A place where efforts that used to be spent on war is now spent on poverty and famine. As for Ougi and Villetta, the two ended up getting married and own a bar. Jeremiah and Anya becomes Orange plantation owners. As for C.C, she's gone back to the village to enjoy a simple life. While on the wagon that takes her there, she reflects about the power of Geass and asks Lelouch's opinion about it.
Impression
That episode did a good job of ending Lelouch's chapter in C.C's life or at least that's how I see it. In the end, only those who were close to Lelouch knows what he has in mind. I think this list include (in order of immediate knowledge to late realization): Suzaku, C.C, Orange-kun, Kallen, Nunnally. I also think that Cecil, Lloyd, Sayoko, and possibly Nina are quite aware of this. They look too calm while being imprisoned to not actually know the details of his plan. I kind of wish that Kaguya, Milly and Rivalz know about it as well. I'd hate to think that their last memory of Lelouch is that of a dictator. However, it was satisfying to see them looking panic when they realize that "Zero" is about to kill their friend. In the end, their friendship is the first thing that was on their mind when Lelouch was in danger. Even if they think that the guy has disappointed them, they can't help but thinking for his safety in his final hour. This is why I find the episode to be redeemable in general. I don't think it makes up for all of the ridiculousness presented in the other 49 episodes (flying rocket charles, dead characters coming back to life) but it's nice to know that the writers are still capable of writing low-key character development episode if they want to.
I think that if Code Geass had a more controlled/clear direction, the end result would have been closer to X, which in my opinion, is an excellent story about the power struggle between two factions. It's hard not to sympathize with every single character in that series because every character is well-realized and their problems/dilemmas were brought to life in more ways than one. As a result, when Kamui makes his final sacrifice for Fuuma and the rest of the world, it really was harrowing, even more so than Lelouch's sacrifice at the end of this episode. In Geass, however, the story is pulled in different directions every couple of episodes that it's hard to feel any kind of emotion for the characters until very recently. In addition to this, although Lelouch's story finally reaches its conclusion, I don't think other characters get the same treatment. To begin with, we still don't know about C.C's fate. I guess she didn't really get her wish to die or to be genuinely loved by someone. One can argue that since her real wish is the later, as long as she's alive, she can have a chance to feel this. Also, I kind of wish that we learned about her real name but I guess that's not important in lieu of other stories.
I also think that the conflict between Britannia vs. Japan was too easily resolved for my taste. I suppose one can argue that in the face of a bigger enemy, personal differences were cast aside. At least that's what Lelouch and Suzaku had in mind. However, would this last long after that enemy disappears? I'm personally surprised that Nina and Villetta were able to cast their bigotry so quickly and were last seen hanging out with a bunch of Japanese. Also, has Cornelia lost her desire to conquer other countries? I also think that while Lelouch being dead is necessary for the plan to work, I'm not too sure about the re-emergence of Zero. I think sooner or later people will wonder who is the man behind this second Zero and it can ruin the plan if they find out that it's Suzaku, who's supposed to be dead already. Anyway, I don't understand how C.C can converse with Lelouch since this implies that Lelouch's soul is somehow still out there. I'm mostly just glad that side characters like C.C, Orange, Anya, and Kallen get to enjoy the peace that Lelouch crafted for them. Overall, I feel that the series is pretty uneven and has little replay value. On the positive side, at least it did a good job in developing its lead character, Lelouch. If you like two-factions-at-war kind of series, I'd recommend X or Last Exile.
YES IM HERE FIRST!!!!!!!!BOOYAH!!!!!!!!!!AND THAT EPISODE WAS SEXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OH AND THERE'S THIS CLIP THAT SHOWS LELOUCH'S FACE WHEN HE'S DRIVING THE CART.
This ending sucked balls big time. Why develop a character for two seasons to kill him off in such a ridiculous, retarded way in the end? What happened to the Japan-Britannia conflict? What can ensure that Evil will not rise again? We are absolutely back to square one at the beginning of this series almost a year ago only with emperor not there and the crown open to anyone who wants to take it and be a new dictator.
But above all, did you see that picture in the end? Everyone was happy as if nothing has happened. they brought back dead people from previous season in the most fucked up way possible but NOOOOOO, Lelouch had to die because....there is no reason. He just had to die so they could finish this series. That’s the only explanation.
sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks.
Hmm... Looking at the gathering photo, wonder what happened to Xingke? Or he was out already...?
Well, I can't help but wonder if Lulu actually died, the fact that he was able to transmit his memories to Nunally kind of hints that he already was in CC state and with powers similar to CC (meaning that he also is immortal) So I really think that the guy in the wagon might be Lulu, and that they probably are heading to the orange plantation...
Lelouch is still alive!! He's the one who's with C.C
C.C was talking to him!!!
Only word I can describe how I feel about this episode.
Pleased.
@Daniel, Where is the clip? Is it on youtube or anywhere? Can you post a link?
I hope Lelouch lives, that way there can be an OVA or third season (god forbid) where a new extraterrestrial threat appears trying to conquer the planet and Lelouch has no choice but to 'return' from the dead.
@novan
It's a Fan made piece of shit. here is the link:

@C.C. You are right about 1 thing, this peace will not last forever, because it is human nature to always desire something. In a few generations there will be other troubles and the cycle will once again repeat.
For example, look at the US. When the founding fathers first formed the United States out of the 13 colonies, it was pretty nice and all, but after nearly two and a half centuries, people have forgotten how much suffering and pain and how the founding fathers had to sacrifice a lot to create what is enjoyed today. That is why Jefferson said that the Tree of Liberty must be from time to time fed the blood of tyrants and innocents.
Because as time goes on, people forget, the pain and suffering that previous generations had to endure fade in the memories of the newer generations until another conflict arises and the cycle repeats itself.
I figured that this was the only way to end the series... after all the people that Lelouch has killed/used (like sending in soldiers to soak up fleias... ouch), his sacrifice would balance the scales a bit. That didn't stop Nunnally's screaming at the end from being heart wrenching...
Now I really wish the damn cart driver wasn't wearing a hat. It'd be pretty hard to survive that massive sword wound in the chest, but other characters seemed to have survived a lot worse... so I wonder.
I forgot to say another thing: Back in Turn 24, Cornelia said the in better times Schneizel would've made a good emperor. What would she say of Lelouch after this episode I really want to know.
This was just the best ending they could do.
Sad and killing the "Hero". I dont want anything else, just let always evil win, just like in reality.
The series as a whole could have been better, much better, and I'm torn about the ending...but in the end, it's not as bad as it seems.
I knew Lelouch was going to die the second I heard his plan was named Zero Requiem and it was pretty obvious that he'd planned something like this; the only part I didn't anticipate was that he'd fake Suzaku's death and let Suzaku take over the role.
And they didn't cop out heavily, so I am happy.
This is all I will say for now:
The ending is open enough to allow us viewers to decide if Lulu actually died or not. In the final scene with C.C., the face of the person who is riding the wagon is definitely not shown on purpose (we have seen thousands of random people faces on crowds before), therefore when she speaks to Lulu about how geass making people lonely wasn’t that true after all, it could either be directed to the person riding or that she’s just asking it metaphorically. Also at this same scene, the wind blows her hair and you can see (though not that clearly as to make it a fact) that the geass sigil on her forehead is not there anymore, implying that she did indeed grant her code to Lulu (and that would be how he survived, obviously).
Personally, I prefer to believe that he did indeed survive, as that would mean a good ending for C.C. too.
Overall I liked the ending though it definitely missed the fate of pretty much most characters and what C.C.’s real name was.
it really doesn't matter if he died or not
for a series which I absolutely had no expectations in for the past season, I liked the ending, i really do. Ignoring all the plotholes and other skipped, previously mentioned plot points (like CC's name and for some reason Sayoko's convenient escape; just for that matter, if people didn't mention how there was a second shuttle in Tokyo tower, no one would have known how nunnally escaped death because the story doesn't make the effort to mention it; while geass is watched enough to let that slip, I think it's bad story telling on sunrise's part), the ending sequence was well made, and really, I can never hate when flashbacks of all those scenes come together before a main character dies, it would be denying the time I've spent watching the show. All in all, I think everyone can say it was at least an entertaining ride. I don't know what I'm going to do now, though, the only show that I even bother to stay up late to watch it now gone... sigh.
I'll admit that I'm a bit sad to see Lelouch go.
But Tamaki is alive, so I am happy.
at least Nunnally is alive
@karasu
You know gundam 00 season 2 is gonna take over code geass' time slot. ;)
Anyway I liked the ending because at the very least the audience knows what Lelouch attempted, and that he was just giving people a reason to gather all of their hate, and let it go with his death. So that Humanity can move forward, was that such a selfish wish? I truly hate ohgi and Villeta since they were the ones that legitimized all of the hate lulu got from the Black knights. But whatever, truly good and pure heroes always die because of the stupidity and close-mindedness of side characters.
Dammit!!! Ougi and Schneizel are still alive
the ending was better than expected, however the last episodes messed up what could have been a good story arc.
I am surprised, the ending was much better than I expected and I'm actually feeling pretty satisfied with how it went. There's still more that can be done with the story, but as for Lelouch's part, it's over. Whether he's really dead or not doesn't really matter, but it's a nice way to end things in my opinion. I'm glad that Nunnally was able to get those images about Lelouch -- however it worked -- before he died.
I think the ending does open the story up for an OAV or something though. We still have C.C.'s story to consider so if they're going to do anything Code Geass related, it'll probably be C.C.-centered. Something close to the last OAV in the Rurouni Kenshin series maybe. (She's still not dead, so maybe they'll kill her off there?) Just a thought though ^_^
Oh, Jeremiah in an orange orchard was absolutely awesome ^_^ (One of my fave scenes)
There is one flaw with the ending that no one realizes: the Geass order on Schneizel telling him to serve 'Zero'. In reality it should have a deadlock effect on him:
1) Schneizel knows that Lelouch is Zero, so logically he would obey Lelouch.
2) Suzaku dressed up in Zero uniform doesn't have to mean that this person is Zero. And since Lelouch is standing right there in person not dressed as Zero, logically the person in Zero costume is NOT Zero.
So Schneizel's mind should be in a deadlocked position. Think of it as a computer program where the statement A(Zero) == B(Lelouch) is always true and cannot be changed no matter what. And then you introduce a new statement that says A = C(Suzaku), however C (!= or =/=, is not equal to) B. The program would throw a logic error.
@Novan: Not quite right. They mentioned earlier that Zero is not a Person, its a Symbol. So Schneizel is serving this Symbol. That the Symbol is now in hands of Suzaku is not relevant.
@FluTaggart, darn why'd you have to ruin the prank I was pulling on people, I was trying to make them ponder the logic for a bit.
Anyway yeah Zero is a symbol, so I can imagine lots of people dressing up as Zero and making Schneizel go *nuts*.
Sorry for the double posting, if Garten could combine a few of my comments....
1) I meant to type FlyTaggart, sry about the typo
2) Lelouch reminds me so much in a way of Kaiser Reinhard from Legend of Galactic Heroes, both initially started their *rebellion* due to their sisters, both destroyed a corrupt system and reformed people's ideals, both desired to create a better world, and both gave their lives in the end. What do you think? Was Lelouch's character creation in anyway influenced by LoGH?
I for one enjoyed the whole series the ending however is the saddest of any anime I've ever watched. It actually made me cry and I don't usually cry over spilled anime. Though I do agree that I wished I learned C.C. 's real name as it came up as a big me, me, me for C.C. in season One that second thing I disliked was they made so many love intrests for Lelouch yet at the end it seemed like all were thrown aside. And were just to poke fun at the fans. That and I didn't see Li Xingne?...Xigne?...Xigbar?...whatever...was alive or not. All in all this one is going to be a definant favorite of mine. As far as Nunnally crying at the end...I've never hated Lelouch so much in the whole series than that moment. Left a bitter aftertaste.
Wow, I love your entries- I happened to run over your website via Google Images. There's a lot of skeptism about Lelouche being alive and the evidence portrayed are all very plausible that can lead to the Lelouche being alive and immortal.
I could say that the ending is nice, but yeah. some things aren't clear yet.
I wonder why Jeremiah isn't exploited? I think his Geass canceller could play a big role.
Oh, speaking of Geass, Why do Nunnally let Schneizel under the influence?
The cart driver's is quite suspicious, though :p I think there's a possibility that it is actually Lelouch.
If I remember correctly, Lelouch wants CC so badly to stay with their contract, even saying that he would endure the eternal life given to him. I wonder if C.C. already gave her code to Lelouch before the Zero Requiem? After all, his geass level is enough to do so.
I think it was right to kill Lelouch (at least let everyone know he is dead). Everybody already hates him.
Poor Suzaku, he can no longer go out to the public without Zero's mask.
The only think that made me cry is how Nunnally was crying for Lelouch. Everybody was cheering for Zero and Lelouch's death while Nunnally was just crying and screaming. T-T
I wonder if Lelouch really die. He always said that he'll pay for the sins that he committed. hmmm...
I'm kind of pissed off on why they never mentioned C.C. rename. Sunrise, Don't mention stuff like that if you're never going to answer it!! Maybe the manga hasn't covered it yet, but the manga seems so different from the anime.
@novan
"There is one flaw with the ending that no one realizes: the Geass order on Schneizel telling him to serve 'Zero'. In reality it should have a deadlock effect on him:"
your flaw is that you expect logic in this series... and since Schneizel will follow lelouch's orders, he can always tell him to obey suzaku until he returns... if he ever returns...
i dont know if this was metioned but i think lelouch is still alive because once the geass person dies the geass wears off
Pretty hard to believe that Lelouch is actually dead. I think CC either passed him her code or somehow he ended up with VV's or Charles' code, though the latter seems pretty illogical. That would actually be a neat ending though, Lelouch and CC immortal for all eternity with the world at peace.
Whoa, my prediction came true that Lelouch died....
Actually, I kinda cried when he died. And yeah, Garten, I really kinda reminds me of X where Kamui died at Fuuma's hands.
I actually laugh that Orange aka Jeremiah is growing oranges! XD
Some of you think the ending sucks. But as for me, I kinda like it. I'm really used to main characters who die at the end of the series, so no complaints there. Well, some of you are not use to it. Do you the movie, the Departed, where Leonardo DiCarpio and Matt Damon starred in with Jack Nicholson? Nicholson's character died first, then Leonardo DiCarpio's character died next and then, Matt Damon's character died before the credits roll.
Oh yeah, about C.C,'s real name, drawing the parallel between Code Geass terminologies and the Irish folkloric myth of Geis, C.C. is a clear allusion to Cú Chulainn. So probably C.C.'s real name is Cú Chulainn.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geis
Also, I heard rumors that Lelouch is the one driving the wagon where C.C. is. and they say that he got Charles' Code....hmmmm
I cried.
I have to say, I like the ending. This episode was really good. I was expecting more of a giant battle without any real conclusion but I'm glad it ended in a better way. That scene with Suzaku stabbing Lelouch at the end reminds me of Team Osaka's World Cosplay Summit 2008 performance. Has anyone else seen that?
I have never seen Nunally talk as much as in the beginning of this episode. I'm glad Kallen and Nunally understood Lelouch at the end. Nunally's crying was just so sad. So many people were crying in the end... Suzaku, Kallen, Nunally, C.C... It really was a touching ending.
I do want to know what happened to Xingke though. Is him not being in the wedding photo Sunrise's way of telling us he is dead without taking up too much screentime?
It looks like Jeremiah will be stuck with oranges forever. If you think about the reason why, it's actually quite ironic.
Anyways, with this ending, the series managed to make me go "Ahh" at the end. Most things were resolved and they made sure to show the aftermath (which is much better than some series which just make a giant explosion and then goes right into credits and aftermath pictures... which really doesn't resolve things as well).
so how did Guilford run out with a gun, with Cornelia... if hes blind.
@jacky
Actually, the geass doesn't wear off even if the caster dies. For example, even though Charles died, Anya still didn't regain her memories.
Oh god I can't stop crying D; I really hope that's Lelouch at the end, but I kind of don't because it would ruin the meaning of his death D; Though it would work well if you add C.C to the picure...
I never minded the plotholes, there's a lot of things you never find out in real life that you have to just deal with, right? (By the way I understand that the plotholes were mostly due to laziness, before anyone gets on my case) ^^ I only started watching the first series on Thursday, I just loved it so much I put everything on hod just to watch it, and that is honestly a first.
I don't want a third season, this ending was perfect :'D
I'm still crying from the ending. I feel a bit pissed off as well because this is not what I had in mind. I thought Lulu will take C.C's code and live as an immortal while C.C dies happily.
Sorry, correction. The ending was *almost* perfect. Why the hell is Nina still alive? I don't think I've ever hated a character so much, she is just SO pathetically annoying. Why isn't she dead?!
I have to agree with garten, this last episode ended the series as well as it could without making it a dual finale one hour episode. Its nice to see that Suzaku and Lelouch were able to resolve their pains.
Lelouch has completed his mission and repented with his life. Suzaku is able to continue his mission to change britannia from within while repenting by living. Suzaku also was able to get his revenge for Euphie if it counts for anything.
XingKe was already (finally) dying during that last battle and when the fleiya went off he was close by and was being sucked in by the recoil shockwave.
Im happy that those who have survived are happy, (funny that Orange-kun is an orange farmer now).
My tastes are very different but the last episode brought CG back up to my standards of DVD ownable material (in english it means Ima buy the seasons on DVD when they come to america xD )
Alot of people are like "ew why to lelouch die, thats hella gey"
The whole series (both seasons) lead to him having to redeem himself and repent; there was no way he could repent for as much as he had done with anything less than his life. Also by making everyone hate him, he took all the worlds hate with him, bringing a "new tomorrow" as he had wanted for himself, Nunnaly and the rest of the World.
:3
I doubt CC would really cry (in the church scene) if she knew Lelouche would live; therefore, it's very unlikely the driver is Lelouche.
It's possible that Lelouche somehow tricked CC, but...why? CC would be the only person he could remain with.
Ogi needs to die.
Nina needs to die.
Gino needs to die.
Schniezel is a slave so...eh.
What good would a blind person with a gun be?
Well I hadn't really been enjoying the series of late but I guess this changed my mind a bit. I did kinda cry with the bit of Nunnally crying for Lelouch and well it was a pretty bittersweet and sad ending. Although something that bothers me is why couldn't Lelouch and Suzaku just be honest they could unite the world without blood that way.
Although it just really saddens me that they died and there's still some loose ends like the Geass itself along with the Codes and other such things. And one has to wonder though Damocles explodes at the height of it's orbit, do you think this means Schneizel had actually intended for it to be a temporary solution?
Well those are my thoughts for now though and I'm kind of hoping Lelouch really is alive since they never did specify that the person giving up their immortality has to die and since C.C didn't have her code there's that chance.
An acceptable ending although I'd rather that they didn't waste the previous episodes on some stupid twists and instead use it to wrap up everyone's life at the end.
Does anyone know what the necklace Kallen is wearing is...?
@Chloe
Kallen's necklace is the key to the Guren. Obviously with the frame destroyed, its more of a memento now. She probably uses it to remember Lelouch, considering that as Zero he assigned the Guren to her.
@Ultimaknight
Oohh of course! Thanks~ haha I'd completely forgotten.
I need to Fix something, (cuz i failed).
XingKe is alive and he is present in most of the end. He was next to Tianxi on the prisoner posts and was in his frame when Nunnaly met with Ohgi. He may also have been in the group pic at Ohgi and Vilettas wedding but it was kinda small for me to see.
I still can't believe Suzaku lives and becomes nunnaly's betch...I want to see Lelouch tomb just out of curiosity. FInally, my guess for the ending is....that the random cart driver C.C. twin sister, Amber, lulu falls from the sky, and with C.C. they go to the orange field with a huge portion of pizza hut...THE END...not rlly, they meet Horo in the way and trade oranges for apples and gives C.C. tips on how to be a great merchant....THE REAL END
I don't think that tiny wind was enough to suggest C.C. lost her code.
Granted we don't know much about people's codes after they're gone/given, but I like to think that they do indeed die after giving or having them taken.
{that's a lie.}
However, seeing how Charles having to perform a little something to receive, or take one's code didn't specify any ground rules ( being near the person, etc. ) since C.C. found V.V. already dying and away from Charles. Plus, Charles was about to take C.C. code without even having a contract with her - which means anyone could take someone's code! Otherwise if that was not the case Charles would have been going nuts by now (back then), right?
Even more so, if C.C. knew that Lelouch wasn't going to go through with the plan, he himself would've been nearing insanity, right? Also it's obvious there's no way to trick C.C., she's connected to anyone whose been or is involved with Geass, though that's proven pretty false since she couldn't detect Nunnally - but whose to say when Nunnally hadn't already broken free of her Geass back then?
Whose to say Lelouch hadn't taken someone else's code? Also I agree with (whoever it was - sorry!)Geass don't wear off after the caster dies, look at Rolo - though his could have been one of those artificial ones. =\
I like the ending - hard to accept but redeemable to the whole series. What I hate was when they'd break from the 'serious' mode just to throw in some comedic relief for an entire episode (e.g. School Festival, etc.) though the tiny bits were acceptable (e.g. Nina eating that weird hot-dog. =p)
Well it's over, and so are my late nights, seeing how I'm more of a manga person than anime. =\ It's really hard to find GOOD (no to mention Great/Superb)original series as oppose to anime adaptions - though those can go horribly wrong too.
I'll definitely be putting this series on my Christmas list! Maybe a good Japanese Subbed bootleg import? =# And then I'll follow it up with buying the American release. Gotta love that Johnny Yong Bosch & Yuri Lowenthal! Also Laura Baily playing Suzaku as a child! ^_^
"I still can't believe Suzaku lives and becomes nunnaly's betch.."
Well, Suzaku has always been someone else's bitch (Clovis, Euphemia, Schneizel, Lelouch) so why not proceed to the next step and be the ultimate bitch?
I personally think Lelouch is alive
The wagon driver is lelouch because why would he have atleast 2 seconds focused on half of this mysterious wagon driver's stupid hat?
While CC's in the chapel she was transferring her geass to Lulu.
Notice the red sparkly geass seal CC was on while she was kneeling...
(anyway, CC could've given her code to lulu anytime without her dying. for example she does give it to lulu, i guess lulu will kill CC using a sword or a gun)
CC's tear i think is her symbol of losing her code and immortality cause she tranferred it to lulu. Nobody said she would die if she lost her code, it was just her wish to die when the code immortality is gone.
Remember V.V., he was shot thats why he was killed after charles got his code
and R2, since L and R for japanese is mostly the same, I'd say Lelouch Lamperouge is L.L. and he's currently an immortal, driving a wagon full of pizzas... I bet Cheese kun is in CC's bag... and both LL and CC are in their pizza honeymoon
I really do hope theirs a continuation for this madness of an anime... I really want to be fooled again by those freaking plot twist, I want to be shocked by those stupid situations and I want to cry when a murderer dies... (Rolo, Lelouch) lol
for short what ever kind of impossible situation occurs, I want to be fooled cause its fun...
hatersal I love you! *reviews ep 25*
I was wondering who is stronger Kallen or Suzaku? I hope Suzaku because i like him better then Kallen.
The reason i asked is when i first saw Kallen beat Suzaku i thought she was better but now i'm wondering if he lost on purpose so he can "die" to become zero.
i agree with hatersal, we don't really know why the series is called R2. since there is no L i japanese and L is usually replaced R then isn't it possible for lelouch to become R.R. just like C.C. andV.V.
anyways, i think that its a good ending, nunnally has never ever looked so cute.
Where does Lelouch turning into R.R comes from? I think that's way out of the left field even for the series.
Xingke is the photographer - -||
That was a good ending to the series... I'm a lover of Code Geass and I'm adamant it is one of the best anime out there. But I have to agree with a majority of the ppl that R2 definitely have some pacing issues. If only the producers had more budget and say another 12 episodes to go in more details of some of the plots, then this would have been the best series EVER!
too bad those god damn corporations and tv stations only care about money and rating and not the actual quality of the series it self!!!!
ok... I cried, but I absolutely loved Lelouch (he is my 3rd favourite anime character after Johan from Monster and Raito from Death Note)
I don't know exactly, but in my version of the subtitles, Suzaku said to Lelouch after stabbing him, that "I will accept this Geass."
Was he referring to his duty to become Zero? Or... he got a Geass from Lelouch? Interesting, in my opinion...

hi there am new here
but i have some comment for C.C.
yes she cry in the last episode of 1st season but in the end she smile that lulu still alive but in the last R2 episode the fact she cry that lulu prepared to be kill like he when use geass on people then he really died
don't u see all the blood
how sad he died but his plan work so all the world in peace
and if there a 3d season maybe there new hero that what i think
If one day someone asks:
Was Lelouch a good man? Answer him: No he wasn't a good man, he was a Great man.
Did he do good things? Answer him: No he didn't do good things, he did Great things.
What great things did he do? Answer him: He bore all our sins.
I doubt that Cornelia, Ougi, Todoh and the like would ever fully appreciate what Lelouch did for them. I'm still laughing at Cornelia for claiming that in a better time Schneizel would've made a great ruler.
Charles wanted everyone to remain in the past always longing for something/one that had already gone 'Yesterday'. (Reminds me of a Kids in the Hall movie where they invent a happiness pill and people take it and everyone in the world just lives in their happy memories over and over again and the world comes to a stand still. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kids_in_the_Hall:_Brain_Candy)
Schneizel wanted to keep people living in fear as they already were doing, hence 'Today'. He wanted to rule by force.
Lelouch wanted people live for a 'tomorrow' where there is always hope, a silver lining, and he gave his life for it, which neither Charles or Schneizel was willing to do.
all hail lelouch. uhuuhuuuhuu *sniff* *sniff*
hey wait!!?? why am i crying!!?? didn't lelouch passed the geass to suzaku?? thereby, lelouch became immortal like C.C. while suzaku now owns a geass of some sort. hmmmm what can it be?? still the geass of absolute obedience?? who knows...
@novan
i like what you wrote dude. ALL HAIL LELOUCH!!
@AnakngTinapa
Not exactly. What Lelouch and Suzaku are talking about at the end there is the original meaning of the word Geass, which would be a onus or burden. Literally, a quest that must be fulfilled. As the last "Geass-user" dies, he places a true Geass on his knight. Very Arthurian to the end.
Plan for peace?
Cheese-Kun did it.
Cheese-Kun invasion is sooooo obvious....
Nice episode though.
Lelouch is probably alive and became RR or R2 as in the title. Otherwise CC is just talking to Lelouch like Kallen was.
Best way to end the series.
hatersal really has some convincing points, but when we think about it 'to be immortal' is to never be forgotten.
The best Lelouch could hope for was becoming a globally recognized icon, like all religious symbols/icons.
Best R2 episode overall was #19, when Lelouch was defeated by Schniezel; I liked how everything was coming together and leading to an unforgettable conclusion....
....which did not happen. It was a decent ending, but somehow it feels like it could have been better.
ROFL. anyone see the blind guy run out with a machine gun. I guess that means hes not blind? or did i miss something.
i'm suprised no one really noticed it. this and the music at the end, orangekun kamikaze and orangekun growing oranges, were the highlights of the entire episode for me..
If the writers are given an opportunity to do a 3rd season, it would likely be the intended version of R2. I have heard that the current second season was not as planned, due to the timeslot change from Thursday at midnight to Sunday at 5PM, which is family hour. So a lot of stuff was removed from the planned 2nd season. The producers were not happy about it. I believe that one of the plans was to have introduce Kallen's father, as well the development of Milly's relationship with Lelouch. Turn 12, for example, was to have had Milly revealing her feelings for Lelouch. But that was edited to pair him up with Shirley instead.
...I think it would have been better with a couple of real deaths. It was a decent ending, but for a series that had alot of wars and battles, I would think someone other than a bunch of faceless soldiers, or just a whole lot of innocent bystanders would at least die in some fight for the cause death (:D yes I'm eye-ing lelouch who I thought would have been alot more heroic if he actually died, instead of planning it out so he'd live through the whole thing... although taking C.C's geass thing would have been really nice to her)
Lelouch is probably still alive btw, as the owner of the orange farm Jeremiah and Anya work at. C.C.'s going there to crash for the summer.
This ending failed, but not because it was too generic (which it was) - rather, it was because it didn't do Lelouch justice as a character. It basically reinforced his mentality after the Black Knights betrayed him - "I've got to die, I have no value in this world." Even if he achieved his original goal in some twisted way, whatever "content" he had here at the end wasn't enough give back by Sunrise for making him slog through hell and shit this entire series. He's gone through more personal tragedies than all the protagonists of mecha anime in the past 10 years, and all he gets in the end is death? So what if he wanted it - he proud spirit had been dead for several episodes now, he was a broken character laid to rest.
The death was unnecessary given how the plot could have been resolved peacefully (duh) when Lelouch became Emperor of Britannia. It could have been resolved with Zero taking over the world as was originally intended. Geass R2's last ten episodes were literally geared toward this kind of end, and for that reason it is low quality.
Of all the people, why would OUGI be the PRIME MINISTER of United States of Japan????
He's one of the idiots on the near end of series, how could an idiot lead a newly built nation?
That's only my complain in the ending, and over all, it was a NICE ending.

I think all the returning of dead characters hurt the series, but I think the ending was good as a whole. At least unlike Light, Lelouch did not get a shameful ending
I suggest that we all get together, make a petition, get lots of people to sign and submit to Sunrise to produce at least 1 more episode, a special episode set a few years later after the end, when Kallen has graduated, peace has settled firmly across the world and Zero(Suzaku) secretly reveals to Nunally and Kallen that Lelouch is still alive, living a quiet life somewhere and encourages Kallen to go see him. And Kallen and Lelouch end up getting married.
If they make something like Kallen marrys Lelouch im going to Japan and kill everyone of Sunrise and Clamp.
I'm pretty sure Xing-Ke is still alive since at the end the Shen Hu is shown when Nunnally is meeting with the Black Knights.
I just have to say that for me it was a very good ending, I loved it. Lelouch was able to give to the world what he wanted with his dead and also to Suzaku that seeked a punisment to be able to continue to live.
Leaving it like that also let's the oportunity for others to obtein their own answers to what they saw.
... I don't feel anything for code geass. Oh well. I wished they explained kallen's family and the source of suzaku's haxxx.
Nunnally cleavage= Win. I can't believe you don't have a screenshot of that.
Who else loved that song at the end with Hitomi??
She's really awesome. I also loved the song Nunnally from the 2nd OST of R2. Great!!
Check out mu anime music blog: http://worldofanimemusic.blogspot.com
As insanely plot-holed and topsy-turvy as this series was, I still had a good two years with Code Geass.
Thanks for the reviews!
Even in the end they never told us C.C's real name. I was hoping to hear it. Still Good ending!
spoilers;
C.C. real name Lunamaria
i happen to discover ( cant tell what ) that some dude interviewing 3 guys in a zero mask ( cant show ther face in public )... these guys actually involve in the geass project ( A.K.A. staff )... during interview...
this dude just slightly ask them about C.C. name and one of them spilled it outloud saying...
(`Д´)ノ ルゥナマァリアァァァ!!!
it`s up to you if you believe it or not...
I think this is the ending the makers have been striving for from the very beginning. The scene where Lelouch had the white chesspiece of a knight knock over the black chesspiece of the king when he was giving C.C. a glimpse of his plans way back in episode...5, I think, in season 1, is symbolic of this.
I'm not a big fan of X...it seems blown way out of proportion, so much so that the creators themselves no longer know what to make of it and stalled it.

I think if the producers get the chance to do another Code Geass series, they might do the "Planned Version" of R2. Thus, it would restore the feel of season one. I for one want to see Milly confronting Lelouch in the same manner as Kallen when she kissed him. If that was the case, Milly would have called off the wedding to Lloyd a lot sooner.
Code Geass is successful enough to warrent a movie, that could lead to the Planned Version of R2. This is the only way that Lelouch of the Rebellion could continue. And certainly not after R2, which I suspect that the producers did not like at all, as well as myself because it just doesn't have the feel of the first season.
LOL konigin that would be pretty hilarious if that was true
i thought this was an entertaining series (if nothing else) nothing epic, but definitely lol-worthy
i really like how they ended, it just seemed to have that finality note that some other series like DtB didn't have (well *duh* i guess seeing as they killed off the main character) even though they did leave a field full of plot holes
Aaahhh~~~ Lelouch is dead!!! HELL NO!! I feel so sad. ALL HAIL LELOUCH *salutes Lelouch* He will live in my heart.
It's a pretty good ending. No one expected tis...Sunrise + CLAMP = THE BEST ANIME EVER!
Code geass deserve an award for tis. THIS SHOW ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting post a friend found: http://www.national-anime.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34786&view=findpost&p=986200
gives logical explanation why Lelouch is alive.
i've been watching anime since i was 5 and this is the first time i cried watching an anime....no kidding it was actually heartbreaking and i'm definitely far from emo..
actually i didn't expected THAT ending. For me, it was the best ending they could have done. the ending was actually a make-up for all the plotholes left
For the plotholes, it doesn't matter anymore because i think that what the makers of this series is trying to tell us is that "Lelouch is good" or maybe something like "in the end, good wins over evil" you know something like that.
i'm really sure that every single one us' mind got twisty because of the surprises this anime brought us like " what the f%$^ is ragnarok? where did that came from?" or " how can britanians and japanese speak the same language?" and all i could say is
COME ON PEOPLE THIS IS ANIME! this isn't reaLity so don't bother minding the government status of code geass.. there is nothing perfect in anime.
in the end, i realized that every twist that happened back in the past 49 episodes, everything that i didn't understand... it paid off. the ending paid it off. it's all about lelouch. and he is a bLoody hero. literally
im 17 mind you
@ Novan - thanks for providing that link, the explanation to the ending was really good =)
as for codegeass, i REALLY LIKED the first season and the beginning of the second season...however things got a bit out of hand when they talked about the emperor
i agree with what most of the people said though that the ending is FABULOUS...it did exceed my expectations and covered up all the mistakes they did int he previous 20 or something episodes haha.
code geass was enjoyable and unique. and most of you would have noticed that there's TONS of political symbols in this anime...it would have been better if they focused entirely on one issue though.
thanks for your recaps garten
"Well, Suzaku has always been someone else's bitch (Clovis, Euphemia, Schneizel, Lelouch) so why not proceed to the next step and be the ultimate bitch?"
Well, at least now there's someone else who will be Suzaku's bitch. Schneizel now serves under Zero, isn't it?
shO, it's not Lelouch was good or not, its the fact that he was willing to sacrifice his own life, reputation and everything else just for the sake of others.
We've all seen animes and mangas where the 'good' guys always have to do good things, act honestly, etc. But that doesn't always work, not in real live and not in animes or mangas. Sometimes in order to defeat an evil, you have to become a little evil yourself (as Lelouch stated).
Lelouch's form of 'goodness' is Necessary Evil.
We all know that war is bad and killing is bad and all those bad things are bad. But if we did not do some of those bad things and decided that we have to keep ourselves absolutely clean and pure all the time, how would we fight evil?
In the beginning people were comparing Lelouch to Light from Death Note, sure they may have been similar for the first half of Death Note, but Lelouch stuck with his ideals and he was willing to walk the path of hell for others while Light in the second half of Death Note became a hypocrite.
I don't get why Nunnally didn't know that Zero was Lelouch when she first heard him because shouldn't she have a very strong memory for sounds since she's blind? Also, Lelouch being her brother, wouldn't she figure out Zero's identity even faster?
hmm im not sure if this has been posted already or not.. but Lelouch is alive!!!
You're wrong, the cart puller IS Lelouch. It only shows in the DVD version, I've seen it o-o
Charles gave his immortality to Lulu, which is why he has 2 Geass eyes.
@Akari
Really..? It only shows in the DVD version..?
But how did Charles gave his immortality to Lelouch??
Lena: The Zero mask has a built in voice changer.
@Akari
That flash image that was supposedly leaked from the DVD version where you can see Lulu’s face in the scene with the cart driver is actually false, even if rather well made considering it appeared only a few hours after the episode was aired. It is however rather easy to see it as a fake if you analyze the clothes.
Personally, I love the open ending (with either Lulu dead, alive with C.C.’s code or alive with Charles code) and I really hope sunrise leaves it that way, so that people can believe whatever suits them better. Whether he is alive or dead is irrelevant plot wise, as he is anyway dead to the world and to everyone else that matter (with the possible exception of C.C. if he’s really alive). Therefore, only to us fans would it matter if he lived or not, and if he did, how. In this sense, while just accepting him as dead is the simpler and more straightforward option, I feel it doesn’t really give the right ending to C.C.’s story, considering how much closer the two of them seemed to grow from the moment Lulu became emperor and forward (of course, this is just subtlety hinted). In the other hand, I believe the whole “he got his code from Charles” theory to rely on way too many non confirmed facts (even for CGs standards) and it’s also improbable for the whole “eternal lovers” to actually last forever, which could give rise to some awful possibilities at some far away future(war between the two immortals, with geass users armies anyone?). Therefore, I prefer the simpler, “he got his code from C.C.” where she will both be loved by him and then eventually die, fulfilling all her wishes and leaving Lulu to take care of the world and repent for all eternity.
And that’s it, my two cents.
Ok. Code Geass has ended. So, C.C. real name is? :-?
But I think Lelouch is alive ...
Because he said that C.C is not alone, right??
If he died, then she will be alone...
So I think it's impossible that he's dead..
@Yukina: Charles gave Lulu immortality before he died. He had V.V's immortality, so he transferred it. I forget how exactly he transfers it, but I'm pretty sure of it.
@Serenade: How can you be sure? Why would they put that part in anyway? I really doubt they'd show the cart puller's face, AKA Lulu's face, if it didn't have ANY significance. Well of course his clothes are unusual, but the whole face mask and stuff makes sense because he now has to live as someone other than Lelouch. Or is it just coincidence that without the mask and whatnot, his face would look exactly like Lulu's? The hair, the purple eyes... dead giveaway really.
I think that Lelouch died and C.C's talking to Lelouch the way she was talking to Marienne... but that's just my theory. I'm kinda sad to see Lelouch die, if he did, but at least Nunnally is still alive and well =) I still wanna learn C.C.'s real name because it's bothering me, I wish they would've told us, but I'm guessing that it has something to do with snow since somewhere in the first season she asked Lelouch did he know why the snow was white, because it forgot it's real name...or something like that..... So overall the ending wasn't that bad, but I guess that they could've tied up some more loose ends for us.
@Garten
this may seem a leetle off topic, but I've noticed that you're an X fan like me! I actually am a NEW X fan and I got into it because you've mentioned it on occassion and I was intrigued seeing as how geass turned out to be...well not what we all expected. ANYWAYS, I've looked on wikipedia and it looked like CLAMP had no intentions of finishing the manga? Do you know if this is true? Also on the clamp page, it said that new chapters have surfaced...but I doubt it's true.
this is best anime ever good ending hope will be OVA or something
this anime serie like (v of vendata) & (deathnote)
In the theory Lelouch is dead and ZeroSuzaku is supposed to be the Black Knight guardian of justice. There for the world wont turn to chaos as long as Zero is there.
Unless we add a twist to it. We all know that C.C. stated he died, but we seen worst death situations so far.
If V.V. did not die, if he was found by Black Knights fainted and taken care by them. The Black Knights would want to keep that survival in secret because after seeing what Lelouch orders them to do, the massacre he ordered, giving that poor kid to him seem to be wrong.
I also think that V.V. might be smart enough to convince them that he is innocent.
That where it will be possible to expose the fake zero and start the chaos up again.
I want to believe that Lelouch is alive and together with C.C. living at the orange plantation.
Since that girl Anya (Or what ever) the one Orange-kun fought against in ep 23, it was mentioned she was often by Suzakus house when he was a child. She even have a photo of him when he was a child. So they have some family relation?
Orange-kun is sort of a part of the family, at least he wish to serve the royal family.
In my opinion, they all live at that farm as a happy family. Hence why Geass have not brought solitude to Lelouch, it brought him a new family.
If you take a look at pic of C.C. in church you can see that she still have her code on the forehead.
Aside from that if Lelouch would have her code it would appear on his forehead.
I will keep my opinions to the point:
1. Lelouch has many different out comes he could be alive and I will point out one, remember when he was destroying his father and Charles has his only hand around Lelouch's neck, mind you it is the hand that contains the CODE from V.V. . Codes only awaken after their first death, also mind you lelouch is always wearing clothing that covers his neck well, their is a chance he absorbed his CODE. When Suzaku kills him it could have activated and he could have become the same as C.C. right their.
hi! i'm MARIEDEL MOHAMAD I just want to say that my code geass is beautiful and super and multi talented pilot .well I LIKE IT.
Alright, it seems that the last episode was pretty complex and out of most of the people I've talked to, a lot of people don't seems to get it. I'm going to tie up all the lose ends with this post.
The Code is the power of immortality, which C.C. has. The 98th Emperor of Britannia, Charles, has the Code. He transferred the Code to Lelouch while strangling him in episode 21. Lelouch wanted this, and he deliberately told Suzaku to not interfere.
However, the Code does not activate unless receiver dies first. This is shown when the nun kills C.C. after transferring the Code to her. Charle's Code activated when he shot himself. Here is one of the big misconceptions that most people have: The transfer of the Code does not involve death of the transferrer. The nun was crazy and killed herself after she transferred her code. VV was injured from the battle and died. So basically, after episode 21, Lelouch had Charle's Code (inactivated) and C.C's contracted Geass.
When Lelouch got stabbed by Zero/Suzaku at the end, his Code was activated. What supports this is that Nunnally got Lelouch's memories when she touched him, just like Lelouch did when he touched C.C. back in Narita. The only way this could have happened is his Code activating. This pretty much confirms that he has the Code.
Unlike C.C., and Charles, who lost their Geasses because the people who contracted them died, Lelouch didn't obtain C.C.'s Code and thus kept his Geass, while having the Code (which he obtained from Charles at the same time). Lelouch therefore has achieved CODE GEASS.

I think C.C. cried at the church because she will give her immortality to lelouch and for her immortality is a bad thing that's why she wants to die...
for the others asking if there's next R's like R1 and R2...
the sunrise said in a magazine last dec. 10 that there will be a possibility that there will be more code geass..
