This feels a bit mellow after last week but still amusing nonetheless. The surprises are slowly diminishing in value though. Nunnally still alive isn't that surprising because it's expected that the series will dish it out before the finale. This is a general problem with series that uses too many surprises in the story. After a while, the viewers become accustomed to them and the surprises become less and less surprising. The problem is actually more prevalent in US TV series rather than anime because most anime series have limited amount of episodes so the writers usually don't have to rely on surprises to keep the audience's interest. Geass is the exception to this. Anyway, with only a few more episodes left, I hope we'll get some kind of nice epilogue to neatly close the series. It'll be annoying if the series end right away after the major battle. The series has more than enough character to fill an entire episode with epilogue of how their life have changed after the battle.

Continuing from last week, Lelouch decides to destroy the Royal Mausoleum, abolish the aristocratic system, dissolve the financial conglomerates and liberated numbers. Tamaki, who is still Zero's ichi-ban fan thinks he's awesome. Surprised Toudou wonders if Lelouch intends on remaking Britannia. Lame Ougi is shocked to know that Lelouch's hatred for Britannia was real. Moreover, the UN of Nations support his decision. Everyone thinks that the Emperor of Britannia is doing something good now, except Xingke, who thinks that Lelouch's intention is something else entirely. Proving that he's right, the next scene is Lelouch ordering a bunch of troops to be his slaves. Lloyd asks Lelouch if he'd let this poor old scientist to analyze that power but Jeremiah replies and asks Lloyd if he'd like to die? Yikes, scary!! On the other hand, it's nice to know everyone on Lelouch's side is having a ball being nasty and treating everyone like slaves. Despite this, Lelouch realizes that he's not popular. C.C, who still has her acid tongue, tells Lelouch that if he takes away their rights, of course people will put up resistance. Oooh, she'll get that acid tongue of hers cut one of these days.

Later on, Lloyd and Cecile questions their decision to ally with Suzaku. They argue about how Suzaku goes to the same school as Lelouch and Nina, and Milly. And look what they've become: a dictator, a wannabe dictator, a psychotic scientist, and a weather woman. This school is going places! Speaking of Nina, that pscyho is hiding because she's being hunted by several countries. Bwahahaha. Meanwhile, Lelouch tells Suzaku that he intends on spilling a lot more blood so that the name of Genocide Princess fades and vanishes from people's memories. Lelouch feels that they've lost too much so in order to face tomorrow, they must conquer the world. I don't get this piece of logic, but then again I haven't had a chance to become a dictator. Surprisingly enough, C.C is actually aware of this decision and so is Lloyd. Anyway, Lelouch is aware that Schneizel, that guy whose name is similar to Chicken Schnitzel, intends to make his move. Their conversation is then interrupted when a slave tells Lelouch that the Knight of Rounds have come to rain on their parade. True enough, a bunch of boring Knight of Rounds have come, swearing their allegiance to old fart Charles. Suzaku, however, is sure that he can defeat them with his new Lancelot Albion.

Up in the sky, Gino tries to entice Suzaku to come out of the dark side but Suzaku instead choose to tempt with dark side. Bismarck tells Suzaku that he knows Suzaku wants to become Knight of One but he's the one and only Knight of One, so neeer neer neer. Suzaku retaliates by saying that he's know Knight of Zero but Birsmack claims that it's a title with no honor. Hmm, I guess the word Zero also means nothing. During the fight, Suzaku realizes that Birsmack can predict his movement. As it turns out, Bismarck's geass can predict the future. WTF is this? I thought a person's geass disappears if his master is dead? Anyway, Lelouch appears on Suzaku's monitor, reminding him of Requim of Zero so Suzaku goes "Yes, your Majesty" and his eyes lit up, activating his "to live on" Geass. All of a sudden Suzaku manages to control Lancelot really fast, making it impossible for Birsmack to follow him. Lelouch tells himself that he knows that "to live on" geass is nothing special so the fact that Suzaku can take advantage of it to win the battle means he's something special. With that said, Suzaku manages to slight Birsmack's frame into half. This causes Gino to be emo, wondering if he's Britannian and in that case, what is he fighting for.

Lelouch then makes an announcement, telling everyone that while he's unquestionably the Emperor of Britannia, he wants to work with UN of Nations. He appoints Ashford Academy to be the neutral zone for both Britannia and the United Federation of Nations' negotiation area. Meanwhile, Schneizel finds out that someone has leave their side so he thinks they should go ahead with the Damocles. On a plane to the negotiation, C.C wonders if it's okay for Lelouch to only bring her and Cheese-kun instead of some buff soldiers. Lelouch thinks they're there to participate in democracy. When he gets there, Lelouch gets adoring fans, except Rivalz who wonders why he's been lying to the poor guy all of these times. He quickly gets manhandled by a few soldiers for that. When Lelouch meets Kallen, he pretends that he never met her before. Despite this, the Black Knights want to make sure that they have that anti-Geass system in place. Kallen has also asked them to shot her if they believe she's under the effect of Geass. Meanwhile, Kallen tells Lelouch that she thanks her for saving her at Shinjuku Ghetto because otherwise she'd have died and the Black Knights wouldn't have existed. She also wants to know why Lelouch told her to "live on" back then in Ikaruga.

Lelouch, however, does not answer her, causing her to stop on the stair and kiss him before bidding goodbyle. Lelouch, who doesn't swing that way looks as excited as a kid who gets new shirts instead of toys for christmas present. Lelouch then meets with Kaguya, telling her that he wants Britannia to be a member of the United Federations of Nations. Kaguya points out that's a request that needs to be approved by more than 2/3 of nation representatives. Because of this, Kaguya press on a button to cover Lelouch with Geass countermeasure while the rest of the representatives discuss their choices. However, this also means that only top level Black Knights and Kaguya knows that he has Geass. Kaguya then appears on the screen asking Lelouch what he wants. Lelouch points out that the current Britannia is good for her. XingKe then appears on another screen, wondering if it's true. He points out that the right to vote in United Federation is proportional to the population of a country. Since China Federation has collapse, the biggest population in the world now belongs to Britannia. In other words, this will mean that Lelouch will hold the majority of the votes should he join the Federation. Lelouch, however, asks Kaguya what is required to govern the world.

Kaguya thinks it's dignity but Lelouch thinks it's the resolve to destroy the world and yourself. All of a sudden, Lancelot Albion crashes from the rooftop into the negotiation building. On top of this, Britannia forces are now on their way to Japan. The Black Knights think that with this action, Lelouch has become the enemy of the world. Kallen wants to move in but Xingke points out that if they don't wait for the countries' decision, then the United Federations of Nations will crumble. Meanwhile, Rivalz and Nina are trying to get out of the city but faced with roadblocks. Nina tells Rivalz to leave her but he refuses and not because Milly asked him to but because they are friends. Rivalz try to run to another road, only to be greeted by another roadblock and a few of Lelouch's loyalist, including Lloyd. It seems it's Lelouch's plan to secure Nina using Lloyd. Meanwhile, Lelouch finds out that Schneizel has erected a stupid-looking castle called Damocles. Schneizel then appears on the private channel, telling Lelouch that he's gathered all of FLEIA warheads. Schneizel also tells Lelouch that he doesn't acknowledge him as Emperor. Lelouch wonders if Schneizel thinks he can do better as Emperor. Much to his shock, Schneizel points out that Nunnally would be the better Emperor. With that said, Nunnally tells Lelouch and Suzaku that she's their enemy.

Impression

Well, obviously I was wrong. C.C is clearly in on Lelouch's crazy plan so that evil witch will also go to Hell for serving his master. On a more serious note, I feel sorry for Lelouch. I really don't know his real plan but I assume it was done to unite the world by making himself the enemy of the world. I think he knows that the likelihood that the entire world will approve him as the Emperor of Britannia is slim. If anything it'll just fracture the world. However, if he plays the evil card, then everyone will be united against him and Suzaku. It's a rather noble albeit twisted intention. Unfortunately, Schneizel has to ruin his plan and becomes the bigger asshole in the story. On top of this, he's using Nunnally as his tool. I doubt that he'll let Nunnally become an emperor without influencing every single part of her decision. On the positive side, it seems Lelouch has anticipated Schneizel using FLEIA as his weapon of choice and this is why he decides to recruit Nina. It's interesting to note that this entire fight is actually a battle between siblings. Right from the beginning, Code Geass is actually a story about dysfunctional family. It starts from Charles and V.V, obviously. V.V clearly has no respect for Charles and the decision that he's made, which was getting married to Marianne.

Code Geass R2 screenshotCode Geass R2 screenshotCode Geass R2 screenshot
Code Geass R2 screenshotCode Geass R2 screenshotCode Geass R2 screenshot

This leads Charles and Marianne on obsessive quest to be Gods, which lead them to abandon their children. Similarly on Suzaku's side, his dysfunctional relationship with his father is what lead him to this point. I wonder if the director wants to make a statement that these days parents are so occupied with the bigger picture (providing for the family, making sure that they are financially well-off) that they fail to notice the details, the development of their children. If Code Geass has been a bit more focused, we might know for sure but as it is now, it's just a speculation on what the series is trying to convey. One thing for sure is that the series started with Lelouch's desire to make the world a better place for his sibling. However, he never stops and questions if this is what his sibling wanted. I don't think Nunnally will find it flattering that Lelouch has been killing his own siblings and parents, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Ditto with almost every character in the series. They've been assuming that their action is what other people wanted. Suzaku thinks that he can save more people by killing his father. He never consider that maybe his fellow nationalist would rather die for their freedom instead of staying alive but living like second-rate citizens. Charles and Marianne want everyone to become one consciousness, not bothering to ask if others actually find the idea repulsive.

Sunrise just crapped another series which had a good beginning. Not even gonna bother to list all the things that went wrong and where it could've been improved.

As rushed as it all continues to be, and that is the main reason I'm increasingly disliking its execution, in some respects as much as the next guy, this is more of a case of under-explained plot twists than actual plot holes, since many of those can be filled somehow, even if not in the best way. A pity that, indeed, the series is lacking focus, especially this late, so real or apparent holes can appear due to insufficient exposition or development.

Lelouch's intentions aren't that hard to decipher but I can see why it's problematic, because we only get a couple of lines or so trying to explain them, and we missed out on a chance to do more last episode.

Yet...in the end I could care less about "lulz", even though I do laugh at that kind of thing once in a while, but that's independent from my watching the show. Just what I think. You can do that, if it works for you.

The art work is getting progressively worse with each episode it seems =_=; It feels like even the staff has given up on the series in a way. *sigh*

Ditto, this episode was pretty mellow indeed. Surprises no longer surprise me, and for some reason I felt bored. I guess, one of the only things that really amused me was the re-statement of pizza being a staple food in Code Geass ^_^.

In a way though, this episode was not at all too bad as it kind of "cleaned up" some "miscellaneous" (not sure how to put it) elements. Kind of like all of Lelouch's (not-so-plot-significant) siblings are now mindless slaves -- so no further screen time is really needed for them. The Knights of Rounds are basically all dead with the exception of Gino, Anya, and Suzaku (and these three still play a part in the whole scheme of things), so we don't have to worry about fitting them into the story anymore either.

My dislike towards Nina has kind of started to dissolve with this episode. It's not that I've come to like her, but disliking her is tiring and it's not like she's not dealing with her reality check. Personally, I think she's grown up a bit since the bombing incident. Though... I do miss my "hate Nina" days.

I enjoy a series more when I'm fired up about something, and at the moment I feel like I'm just riding out the remaining episodes. Code Geass is still interesting, but for me personally, it's lost its flare.

There's one pretty obvious failure with this series: In wikipedia, knight of rounds such as Monika, Dorethea, etc are all described as being powerful and fearsome knights (most likely from descriptions that Sunrise published).

However Monika has less than 5 minutes of airtime in the 3 episodes she appeared. Makes me wonder if sunrise had ever planned to bring more focus on the knights of rounds and involve them in a larger battle but scrapped that plan.

Also, WTF are knight of rounds doing in sutherland frames? Apart from Anya, all the other KoRs who had 7th generation frames or better were male, so is this some sort of sexism?

September 7, 2008 | Camario wrote:

"Also, WTF are knight of rounds doing in sutherland frames?"

Those were the forces under their control, but I got the impression they avoided showing any custom frames for the other Knights of Rounds (we only saw their cockpits) just because...they have no designs for them and they were going to die anyways.

Lame, but less than that.

Lelouch's motivation is to unite the world legally, so people can be happy. He strong fisted the UFN because the majority wanted to join him, but Japan and China illegally said "no, unless you divide your country or restrict your vote to 20%". That wasn't fair, so he decided to force a vote.

He wants to unite the world because that's the only way everyone will oppose Schneizel, preventing Schneizel from becoming too powerful. He's worried the nobles will defect to Schneizel now that they've lost privileges and other Britannians who see him as a usurper, like the Rounds.

When he became Emperor he was informed of everything, Damocles, FLEIA and Schneizel's intentions.

Well, for any mainstream series, especially sequels, deterioration of quality in later episodes is very common. Episodes of anime generally take MORE than a week to produce, especially with high frame rate action sequences like code geass. Since this is a sequel, the company had a lot less time to make the episodes, which reflects in the quality of later eps.

Grow a fucking brain! Think for yourselves does every little detail in this show have to be explained to you?

Like for instance people saying:

"This is stupid! Nunally was trying to perserve people's lives but then she goes and drops a nuke on a country."

Obviously Schnizel is using her as a pawn, she's blind and crippled! How much easier could it be!? Given Schnizels abilities to manipulate and tell people what they want to hear it would be all the more easy. She might have no idea she's adding a maniac dropping bombs on innocent civilians, or maybe she does and maybe Schnizel convinced her that there all giant lizards in disguise as civilians plotting to destroy all of mankind.

I think it's better if not everything is explained it leaves room for the veiwer to speculate as to what exactly is going on.

People saying it's too hard to understand because the show is way too fast paced I have only this to say.

"I had no problem understanding what's going on, it's not that the show is too fast past, you're all just too slow."

September 8, 2008 | Luther wrote:

Obviously, I read their posts and understood. Some people were complaining about the plot twist. That was the reason I said, "I like the plot twist" . Without a brain I wouldn't be able to operate a computer or even run my own business.

It doesn't matter where I am at on the internet. Whether it's a forum, blog, internet gaming people will bitch and moan about anything.

Get a life. Getting so upset over a show is ridiculous.

September 8, 2008 | Cyle wrote:

As for the Knight of Rounds, if you use your brain and fill all the plot-holes with self-speculation then it really isn't all that confusing. I can think of a few scenarios that lead to there getting owned by Suzaku.

They were un-prepared, not expecting, or underestimation the power of the Knight of Zero and Lancelot Albion. Also they were being lead by the Knight of One, who in one of the previous episodes was seen as a think before you act type of person who wouldn't charge straight into enemy territory un-prepared. He was formally Charles personal Knight, how would you feel if the person you were most loyal too was sudenly torn away from you, and the person who tore him away stands before you, in this case Lelouch. I'm sure you'd be pretty pissed and would throw your rationality out the window.

The Knight of One wasn't thinking rationally, and because he is the Knight of One the supposed most powerfull Knight of them all, and because he posseses a Geass perfect for battle he was cocky.

That's basically how I speculated it worked out to, in doing so I filled the plot holes.

You can even go as far as to speculate Schnizel was the one who sent them to his enemy's doorstep, to test the capability of the Knight of Zero, to see what he was up against.

If you think like I do then the show makes a lot more sense, and is much more enjoyable.

Because not everyone has the same opinion. Geez, for someone who claims to love the series, you don't even learn a thing or two from the series: that not everyone thinks like you.

Lelouch's intention in this episode is muddled at best. Some of his action seems like suicide mission.

Yea after last week's episode, I'm placing my money on that as well. I have sneaking reason to belief he is going to die as an enemy of the world, but history would paint him as the savoir of it.

"If you think like I do"
By that I meant use your brain.

And I never claimed to "love" the series, I said I "like" it, there's a difference. If I Loved the series I wouldn't even bother reading these anime blogs. I like to see other's thoughts on it, not trash ranting about how shitty this show is because theres too many plot holes and things don't make sense because they lack a brain.

Does anyone else think that maybe Nunnally is putting on a show to deceive Schneizel? Since she has her "if i touch you I can tell if you're lying"-Geass, which I'm assuming Schneizel knows nothing about (because her eyes are closed), I'm thinking that she wouldn't be tricked by Schneizel's sweet-talk etc.

Plus, she doesn't seem the type of person to get *angry* at her brother OR suzaku, and getting angry at both is definitely not her style - she's more likely to try to understand them first and then try to convince them that they're wrong.

So my theory is that she knows that Schneizel is tricking her, but since she only has Sayoko, she's kind of helpless in Schneizel's grasp and is deciding to play along so that later, when it matters, she can be all rargh and ruin Schneizel's plans and/or pass along them to Lelouch when/if she escapes with Sayoko.

Sorry for the double post but...

Has anyone noticed that Lelouch still has his "I was Zero" card up his sleeve if he needs it? And obviously I'm saying this under the assumption that Kaguya and Xing-Ke don't know that he is Zero. Xing-ke owes his life/country/loli-bride-to-be to Zero, while Kaguya has always been fanatically loyal to him (Zero) so if Lelouch *needs* the added support, he has two sources of guaranteed support in reserve.

However the fact also remains that since he's probably playing the "mwahaha i'm evil" card, he's not likely to call in debts of gratitude/loyalty/all-that-good-stuff because that would offset the evil-aura that he needs to carry out his plan.

[And obviously Lelouch's lack of reaction to Kallen's kiss is also due to the fact that he's decided to discard all personal connections with his previous friends/comrades and doesn't want to cause/deal with emotional confusion down the line when he has to ultimately go "bang."]

People are wondering about an adolescent being emperor... how bout a fucken kid? I give Lelouch props, cause... uhh.. I duno... he's smart? I agree with Garten that Lelouch again is burdening the hatred to be able to piece the world together but with that kind of power? I wanna see alternate endings to this. It's cool to see Lloyd passive about this and not like Gino and having his manhood cut off.

hanging on to the typical good guy morals. i mean

its not ur typical run of the mill good guy vs bad

guy story. i watch this anime because it sunk its

teeth in me and every time i watch and episode i

cant wait to see what will happen next week . it

gived me a sence that allows me to consume the

story whole and savor every delicious moment of

it...... something that very few anime can do

... so ima enjoy it and not play the what if

senario with all the deferent things people say is

wrong with the show because.......ITS SIMPLY AWESOME

Good show. I haven't got the slightest clue as to how it'll end and I like it that way. However depending on the ending it could either turn into one of my favorite shows ever, or into absolute crap. I'm withholding final judgment until the last episode.

I’m a bit expecting that Nunnally will open her eyes since Charles’ geass made her blind. But maybe in the last 2 episodes, Nunnally will open her eyes and she might see something very ironic…

Also what a waste to kill off the knight of 4, Dorothea Ernst, who only has an appearance in this episode…I hope they will show Nonette Enneagram, the knight of 9, in the last 3 episodes…I mean, I read in her biography that she is Cornelia’s senpai and one of the few people that Cornelia ever feared…also I notice she didn’t join Bismarck’s rebellion…hmmm…

on the other side, Lelouch’s new outfit looks cool, so is the hat….If you hate the hat, you suck!

That Nunnally is with Schneizel shouldn't be a surprise. Remember, who put her in the Government Office Building with full knowledge of the battle terms (FLEIA) and geass (Suzaku)? Considering Schneizel's mind and personality, he knew full well how that battle between Kallen and Suzaku was going to end with a use of FLEIA, and yet he's not going to let his little sister die, either. So, of course, he'd be the one to save her. You could even say the Lelouch (and Suzaku) played right into his hands at that point.

The problem with Schneizel, as a character, however, is that he's just an "a matter of fact" kind of guy. He has virtually no emotion, especially when compared to Lelouch or even Suzaku. While this stoicism makes him "cool," he's not really going to rank that high on most people's favorites lists because, to put it simply, he's boring. This does, on the other hand, make him a great antagonist (though not necessarily the best or not) for Lelouch since their personalities are so polarized despite them both being great masterminds.

On Suzaku vs. Bismarck, the result was expected - not necessarily because of the story and its progress, but because of the respective geass they were given. Being able to see the future? Big deal. Just change the future so that Bismarck sees himself die - and that's exactly what Suzaku did. When you compare both geass and consider that both must be true, Bismarck automatically loses - especially when Suzaku puts his life on the line (facing Bismarck head on). If Suzaku had simply tried to win the battle without throwing himself to the jaws of death, he would have lost. Yet, Suzaku forced Bismarck to act to actually kill him (Suzaku) which therefore forced Bismarck to kill himself at Suzaku's hands to complete the tautology: Suzaku lives on and Bismarck sees his lovely little future.

Overall, I have to say I quite enjoyed the episode. It wasn't over-the-top and had a nice steady pacing.

Hmm... From what I read, most of you weren't surprised the moment they showed Nunnally is alive. I was, though. At least in a "OMG so ppl's speculation is true after all!!" way.

@maki :
What did you say? Suzaku's outfit is far cooler! Look at the see-through fabric on his shoulders and those laarrge eye on his abdomen, plus the tightness and that AWESOME cape!! Lelouch's is a joke! XD

Every time Lelouch did something absolutely evil (which was at least three or four times in this episode) I laughed, but not nearly as hard as when I saw Nunnally

I was really hoping they hadn't brought back Nunnally (not even for ninja Sayoko) because that's just pure bs..

At this point of the show, all I want to do is shoot Nunnally dead because....

GOD WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR SUZAKU AND LELOUCH TO BE TOGETHER AND BE EVIL!!! And now they are going to bring back a crumbling emotional Lelouch. I hope Suzaku slaps him out of it. I mean COME ON! Nunnally, how many time have you destroyed my poor poor Lelouch on his way to become our favorite #1 evil guy? Just die already and make us all happy.

On the side note, I did enjoy the kiss from Karen and Lelouch. I love them together so much. Nina is not a psycho now and I love to see her being chased down by others. (you deserved it B****)

Holy shit can't believe they killed beautiful Monica off already! We did not ever get to see her use a good mecha booo
Plus wth! Dorothea was only on screen for like 3 seconds lol messed up
Wat a twist at the end, Nunnally time I wonder just wat Schneizel is planning to do with her.
Still sad tat Monica died she looked cool. Well there is still Nonette but seeing the way things are going I would not be shocked if she died the same episode she came in lol

I don't know how much I would hate Sunrise (and particularly you, Writer Okouuchi-san) if they really do what I'm thinking they are going to do to Lelouch, based on the summary. T__T

Worse, I suspect they are going to end Code Geass in Gundam Seed Destiny style with Damocles crubmled with certain characters trapped inside. Waga Routashi Aku no hana played, or probably World End. Credit rolls showing flashback from both SS1 and R2 -And- NO POSSIBLE FUTURE for each character!

Zetsuboushita!!!

@avocado sushi: It's not Nunnally that we want dead. She's just being manipulated by Schneizel.

These are the people we want dead in most to least order:

1) Ougi
2) Schneizel
3) Todou
4) Chiba + Villetta
5) Diethard
6) Yoshitaka Minami

September 11, 2008 | avocado sushi wrote:

@Novan :

Those people were condemned by me since Ep.19. (Btw, Chiba+Villetta rank 3rd in my mind. I don't really hate Toudou that much) But I never knew I would want a sweet girl like Nunnally dead too. I was glad she was alive the moment I saw her face then changed my mind in a second that she declared she was the enemy. Well cuz you know, how much Nunnally really knows about her brother and Suzaku? Or should I blame Lelouch for playing the villain role so perfectly that nobody wants to listen to him anymore even his most beloved sister. He's always been judged one-sided by everyone in the show.

Besides, Lelouch already passed the sulking stage from losing Nunnally and is doing something with a goal. Her coming back as an enemy will only torture him further and complicate him. Anyway, I hope that in the end, her being alive can make Lelouch want to live on again.

In the end, the only one that would come out a victor in this show is Pizza Hut :P
