First thing first, I probably should put a disclaimer saying that this entry is full of my opinion since some people actually think that what's said here is a fact. It's shocking, I know, I always thought my opinion is well, my opinion and not a fact. Anyway, "pillage and plundered" were the first words that came into my mind upon seeing the 'development' shown in this episode. This episode is so out there that I give up trying to find some sense in the plot. I've said many things about this series, both good and bad, but one thing that I appreciate the most out of this latest development is that I have no idea where this speeding train is heading. Having said that, I hope I have the chance to bail out in the case that it's heading towards a wreck. At the moment though, the feeling is more of that fast, dangerous and uninhibited insanity, like anything can happen any moment now. I'm also amused that Lelouch and Suzaku are back together and rule the world with their evil, iron fists. It's like every fanboy's nightmare and every fangirl's dream finally becomes a reality.

The episode begins with Suzaku looking startled when he sees Anya and C.C coming together to see him. Anya, however, tells the guy that right now she's not really Anya but Marianne, Lelouch's and Nunnally's mother. Is she coming on to her own son's best friend? Meanwhile, Ougi is forcing Tamaki to agree with everyone's plan to let him explain the situation to Kaguya and Xingke. The important thing is that for Tamaki to understand that Zero can't be alive. It's quite surprising to see Tamaki crying. It seems out of everyone he's actually the most loyal to Zero. I'm not sure if this is a surprising development or a big joke. Meanwhile, Kallen wishes that there's some kind of confirmation with Lelouch otherwise she can't move forward. Back inside that the world of C, Lelouch closes his geass and decides to engage in some father/son bonding session with Charles, asking him who killed Marianne and why Charles didn't protect her. Charles replies by using the same old "why a liar like you expect the truth". Just answer the damn question already old fart. Lelouch admits that he's been lying not only about his name/profession but also his intention but he thinks it's to be expected.

He argues that everyone puts on a facade and lies to others. Without such things, countries, nations, and communities would not exists. He points out that everyone has a public persona or else they can't advance. The Emperor disagrees and claims that lies doesn't work. Only if they can understand each other that conflict will disappear. He claims that it'll soon become reality with his Ragnarok plan, where lies will be revealed. Ugh, is this one of those device where humans accidentally blurt out their real feelings? Not a good idea, what with most people not appreciating honest thoughts. Can you imagine if everyone honestly blurts out their real thoughts? Utter anarchy. Meanwhile, Suzaku is invited to come to the world of C, which is apparently the aggregation of people's hearts and memories. If this series doesn't sound like Evangelion before, it is now. Suzaku wonders if this is what he saw back then but C.C explained that was just an accident. She also accuses him of being a peeping tom. At any rate, C.C sees men as nothing more than collective unconsciousness with masks on them. Anyway, since Marianne can't open the door, she decides to use C.C and meets Charles inside.

This effectively releases her control over Anya's body so Anya falls over unconscious. After Marianne left, C.C points out that she and Suzaku are the same in that they wish for death but they can't die. Meanwhile, Lelouch looks like he swallowed a bird when he sees Marianne inside the world of C. Marianne explains that this is the real her although she can only keep her real appearance in this place. Charles explains how he and his brothers were living in fear due to competition for royal throne. Basically everyone tries to backstab each other, which is to say that it's the norm. Anyway, V.V and Charles hated the world and they promised to make a world void of lies. Marianne and C.C also agreed to this world but 8 years ago, V.V decides that Charles changed after he met Marianne. So V.V decided to kill her. It's confirmed, V.V is an older version of Rolo. V.V made it seem like Nunnally was a part of the incident and that the terrorists were the ones who killed Marianne. Anyway, Marianne was lucky that Anya was around so she used her Geass on Anya to transfer her soul. She then found out that when her consciousness surfaces, she can speak with C.C, mind to mind. C.C, who found out about it left the cult to V.V and disappeared.

Back in Britannia, Birsmack explains that the rebel forces are being repressed with the help of the Black Knights. Oh wow, that sounds like a big mess that Black Knights are in now. Birsmack also wants to know how much Schneizel knows. Meanwhile, Suzaku asks C.C to take him to the other world. Back inside the world, Charles tells Lelouch that he had to send Lelouch and Nunnally to Japan so they won't be in danger from V.V. Marianne also explains that as long as her body remains, she can return to the real world. Even though Nunnally was a fake witness, Charles figured out that she might be in danger. At first they think that only V.V can provide them with one code of immortality but as it turns out, C.C can also provide them with that as well. However, since Marianne couldn't persuade C.C to give her immortality, Charles had no choice but to use Lelouch to get her. Lelouch is dumbfounded, wondering what he's done all of these for. Charles tells him that if Ragnarok is a success, everything will disappear. Everyone will be allowed to exists as they are. Lelouch is even more dumbfounded to realize that the conflict between Britannia and the Black Knights were all done to lure C.C out. Speaking of the witch, here she comes with Suzaku. Suzaku is now aware that Charles is immortal.

Charles claims that both Euphemia and Nunnally would have wanted this world of peace so he urges C.C to start, promising to grant her wish afterwards. With that said, Charles raises his hand, which contains the code he obtained from V.V. The code resonates with C.C after inadvertently passing through Lelouch. All of a sudden a dark cloud covers everywhere around the world. Bismarck explains to Schneizel that the Emperor's plan is happening and that 'politics' will change after this. With this, the sky opens and reveals Jupiter. Charles intends on making his seal and C.C into one, so the new world can begin. At the same time, Suzaku asks Lelouch why he wanted to take over the world so Lelouch tells him that obviously it's for Nunnally. Suzaku asks him if he's going to use Nunnally as an excuse so Lelouch admits that he did it for everyone he wants to protect. Suzaku points out that Lelouch has to fight for it. Lelouch agrees and points out that it means he has to reject something. With that said, Lelouch steps between Charles and C.C, telling his father that people lie not to just battle something but also because they want something else. He thinks the world as it is now is fine and he doesn't want to follow his father's plan.

Marianne wonders if he's going to oppose her as well. She believes that it's a good thing that everyone who's been separated will become one again. They can even become one with the dead, including Euphemia! How exciting! Then they can all be one big happy family. Not! Lelouch disagrees as well and points out that this is just forcing their good will onto others and not any different from evil intentions. Lelouch tells them that despite their intention, their plan to 'protect' him and Nunnally were complete fail. He also asks them why they didn't stop the war between Japan and Britannia. Lelouch accuses them of only wanting a world where they can be happy. He points out that what Nunnally wanted was a world where everyone can be kind to their neighbor. Yeah, that will never happen. Unless you hypnotize them. Hey, that's an idea!! With that said, Lelouch intends on opposing Charles. He points out that this is the world of collective consciousness and asks God to not stop the flow of time. Charles thinks Lelouch can't stop God but Lelouch insists on wanting "Tomorrow". As soon as he said this, Lelouch's other eyes turn into full geass and resonates with the symbol in Jupiter.

As soon as this happened, the thought elevator is destroyed. C.C tells them that they should stop since they're being assuming that everyone else wants this. Charles thinks it can still happen since they still have the code but all of a sudden he and Marianne starts to disappear from the world of C. Marianne wonders why C.C doesn't disappear even though she was also part of the plan. Upon hearing this, C.C tells them that she now realizes that they only love themselves. Marianne denies this and claims that they love Lelouch and Nunnally. He points out that the fact remains that both of his paretns abandoned him and Nunnally. All of a sudden the Emperor and his half remaining body charging after Lelouch, trying to strangle him. Charles tells Lelouch that if he rejects the plan, the only thing ahead is Schneizel's world. Even knowing this, Lelouch rejects Charles' plan and orders him to begone already. With that said, Charles and Marianne disappears into nothingness. This automatically means that Bismarck lost his Geass and understand that the Emperor has passed away. In the aftermath, C.C wonders what Lelouch and Suzaku wants to do. Suzaku wants to stick pointy stuff into Lelouch to avenge Euphemia.

One month later in Tokyo, Britannia is still there. So I assume the stupid Black Knights didn't get their Japan back? There will be a ceremony and apparently Charles is supposed to attend. Much to the royal family's shock, it's Lelouch who actually comes to the ceremony. Suffice to say, Lelouch's friends are shocked. Lelouch tells everyone that he's the 99th Emperor of Britannia, Lelouch vi Britannia. And oh, Charles is dead and he's the one who killed the old fart. Obviously his family is not impressed and orders the guard to capture him. Before they can touch Lelouch, however, Suzaku appears out of nowhere and beats them up. Lelouch then introduces Suzaku as his rounds, Knight of Zero. Everyone is also shocked to see Suzaku is now working alongside Lelouch. Odysseus points out that they can't do this during international event but Lelouch uses the opportunity to make his point clear: by using Geass. He orders everyone to acknowledge him. It doesn't take long before everyone "Yes your majesty" and "All Hail Lelouch" him. Not far from them, C.C looks unimpressed. At the same time, Schneizel tells the other that he intends on giving Lelouch everything including Britannia. What matters is afterwards. He wonders if the one who holds the world is Lelouch's geass or....

Impression

How did Charles and Marianne think that it's a good idea to give Lelouch a false impression that his father doesn't care about him. Wait, he and Marianne really don't care much about Lelouch so that's kind of true. I guess their ultimate plan is to become the new Gods so that they can create a world without lies and hatred. In the process, they end up causing even bigger lies and hatred. Woohooo!! Either these characters are moronic or the writers changed the story halfway through the series. It just doesn't make sense that Charles tries to protect Lelouch and Nunnally by waging a war with Japan over natural resources. On top of this, I always find that fast-forward to a few months/years later is never a good plot device. It doesn't work for US drama like LOST, and I don't think it works for this episode as well. I guess the writers are running out of time and have to compress things but I wanted to see how Lelouch and Suzaku climb their way into the throne. Having said that, it's awesome the way Lelouch and Suzaku no longer give rat's ass about how wrong it is to geass people to follow their order. "All Hail Lelouch", indeed. They are so shameless in showing everyone their evil grin and plan to conquer the world that I can't help but grinning as well.

At any rate, I hope they 'screw' everyone including (but not limited to): Nina, Black Knights, and the Royal Family. This is why I said that "pillage and plundered" were the first words that came into my mind is because what else should one expect out of this except Lelouch and Suzaku ruling the world with their evil and iron fists? The best way to crush every single person who has opposed them thus far is to bend them over using Geass. It sounds insane but at this point, they've basically lost everything that is important to them: their loved ones, their believe values, and their allies. All that's left for them is each other. Because of this, is it unrealistic to expect them to turn evil? I really think that by the end of this episode, Lelouch and Suzaku ends up turning like Charles and V.V. You know, "The path to Hell is filled with good intentions" and all that jazz. I mean one look at C.C's face was enough to know that she's disappointed upon seeing Lelouch using his power to geass the entire royal family. So while it was entertaining to see Lelouch ordering them around, I think C.C knows that Lelouch is heading towards that special place in Hell and she doesn't want to come along with him.

Poll

A reset? A complete purge of the world? Charles and Marianne return to defeat Lelouch? Lelouch becomes the ultimate king? Schneizel wins over his twisted brother? C.C as the only survivor left? What's your ideal Code Geass end? At this point, there's no such things as "that's too cheesy" so don't hesitate to bring up even what you consider to be the most ridiculous idea ever. If you're in a speeding train like this one, wouldn't it be better if you're the driver?

I think it was just the perfect episode.
First I thought WTF, but at the time I saw Lelouch beeing Emperor is just couldn't stop laughing insanely (just like if I yould be Lelouch ^^).
But I want to know too what happened the whole month, I mean it doesn't seem like something changed. The last time everyone freaked out because Charles was one day away and now after a whole month the other Royals doesn't care?
Diethard working for Schneizel?
And the Idea to Geass the God is just crazy. That means he got greater Power than god, I want, too!!! But Jupiter beeing god? I don't understand that.
And did Charles and Co. really think the wolrd would be better without lies? To think that the world then would be better is highly naive. Even without lies people would be killing others or stealing and stuff.
But seeing someone who makes the things he want to erase was seen often in Movies of such things, I think it suits the Story.
But why does Lelouch be the Emperor? Of course it could be worse, but why is there a need to?
I think the thing Schneizel has is his Damocles.
And how does Bismark knew that Charles died? Does he have a chip inplanted in his eyes instead of a Geass?

The End I wish for, mhh I dont really know. I think it would be good if everything gets into Chaos, everyone fights against everyone and in the end Lelouch stand on the Throne of the whole world and all he is seeing is a God damn destroyed world. He then falls on his Knees and says "what did I do?" and the series is ending.

This series does have the title "Lelouch of the rebellion". They can't kill him off, kinda like you can't kill off Naruto in "Naruto". =p

My impression is that Charles didn't really try to protect Lelouch and Nanally. That is why they are silent when Lelouch ask the question. Charles and Marianne simply wants the plan to succeed. Afterall, they could "unite" with the dead after the plan succeed so it really didn't matter if Lelouch and Nanally lives or dies.

Charles ordered the attack on Japan because of the sites related to the geass tribe, which is essential to the plan (that's why schneizel and even clovis investigates the geass tribe secretly). Of course obtaining the sakuradite didn't hurt their plan as they probably need to invade other countries as there are numerous sites related to the geass tribe.

August 31, 2008 | Camario wrote:

Extremely over the top and out there is right...the story is extremely convoluted by this point, that is undeniable, but I still think it flows a little better conceptually than most people are willing to give it credit for...even when the execution fails in practice or when it's not exactly anywhere close to reality. If that's what was expected -realism-, then yes, it's pretty disappointing. In my case, that's probably partially true, looking back, but not to the extent that seems to be popular these days since I did like this episode, believe it or not, even if it's still fairly hilarious in parts.

As discussed in other previous comments I've made, it's definitely true that there were changes to the story between both seasons but, surprisingly enough, I don't think the changes had to do with what Charles, V.V., C.C., and Marianne wanted to do per se.

A grandiose over the top plan -and thus not exactly full of realism- was relatively expected, especially considering the hints from other R2 episodes and some R1 mentions too, as vague as they were. Turns 15 was the most blatant about this, and that's not saying much, but there were other signs elsewhere as well. Jupiter was right there, from the beginning, as was the Ragnarok Connection.

Once again, and forgive me for being redundant, I believe that they weren't talking about "Gods" in the literal sense...it seemed to me that the use of the word was still more or less metaphorical, referring to the collective consciousness of humanity or something along those lines. Still very out there, but in a different way.

If the plan succeeded, any instances of death and destruction that happened in the process would be made irrelevant, so I don't find that much of a problem with it.

Realism and execution aside, I mean. Trying to explain anything in too much detail would probably give me a headache and it wouldn't be of much use to you either.

As for the ending...I'm not interested in speculating. Whether it's good or bad, I prefer to wait and see what happens first and not come up with too many scenarios, as ridiculous as they might be in the end.

Lelouch did a good thing by killing his father (who was supposed to be immortal). It's funny how the elements in this episode were unpredictable like Marianne's death after one episode with Charles and how Lelouch used geass on "God". For the end, I'd like a confrontation between Emperor Lelouch and sneaky guy Schneizel and a brought back Nunnaly by Schneizel (I don't care how as long as it's unexpected) just to piss off Lelouch would be great.

I have 2 thoughts about Code Geass & Sunrise:

1) Some executive(s) at Sunrise were feeling bored one day and had an inspiration "Hey why don't we get rid of this boredom by screwing all CG-Fans by messing up the entire plot, it'll be fun messing with the minds and hearts of the fans."

OR

2) Some executive(s) at Sunrise held a meeting and decided that since CG was already famous and making money, they would increase their profit by reducing the budget and decrease quality but still charge viewers the same original amount.

I haven't got the slightest clue as how this series will end, everything is pretty much up in the air at the moment and personally I'm loving it. I just hope they sort things out in a decent way instead of only making them more and more chaotic until the world ends in the last episode.

How I WANT it to go would probably be something along these lines:

1) Lelouch takes control of Britannia and along with Suzaku starts turning it into the ideal world he wanted for Nunally, it would make sense for them both since they'll be changing Britannia from within (Suzaku's plan) using any methods possible (Lelouch's method).

2) Lelouch and Suzaku aim to destroy all Geass and free CC from her immortality without actually passing the "curse" on someone else, or alternately one of them takes it on and suffers for the rest of eternity for their sins. I prefer the first method but I think the second is more likely to occur.

3) Schneizel outwardly surrenders Britannia while gathering his forces to try and fulfill his own agenda. Exactly what that is I don't know, but I can bet it has something to do with Geass and Lelouch's well being isn't part of the plan. Turning Schneizel into a good guy at this point would be kind of dumb I think.

4) Major world war erupts between the two sides, with Geass being the key focus for it. I'm thinking something along the lines of Lelouch/Suzaku wanting to use Geass in order to destroy Geass (and free CC), while Schneizel wants to control it.

5) Everyone takes a side. Schneizel will probably have the Britannian legions around the world that are loyal to him or Cornelia, the majority of the Black Knights and the majority of the Rounds.

Lelouch will have Suzaku, Kallen (I hope), most of the Royal Family and Britannian homeland army, a select few Black Knights (Kallen, Rakshata, Orange), what remains of the Chinese Federation, Gino (thanks to Kallen and the fact that Lelouch is technicaly the next in line Emperor while Schneizel is an usurper) and Anya.

6) Nunally will come back near the end and throw a major wrench in things. She'll probably stop lelouch from doing something horrible (using FLEIA?) and this will bring peace to the conflict in Euphie-like fashion by calming Lelouch down. They will find a way to free CC, unite the world, etc. and everyone lives happily ever after. What can I say, I like happy endings.

7) Somewhere in all this Nina will die, I don't really care how but I can't stand her. Likewise Kallen, CC, Lelouch, Suzaku, the Council + President, and Anya will survive. I can go either way on the rest of them but I want these alive at the end.

I just wanted to add something to my previous comment.

I think the story would've been better without the entire Ragnarok remake the world plot (from what I said in my comments for ep.20). It would've been better if it went something like Marianne was assassinated by Charles himself because she was a hindrance to his desire to conquer the world. (As stated in wikipedia, Marianne was known to have a playful, kind, gentle personality and she wasn't from a noble family, a commoner.)

I mean, Marianne doesn't seem to be Charles first wife, after all his oldest son Odysseus looks to be like in his thirties, making him around ~15 years older than Lelouch. So if Charles wanted to make a new world, why is it with Marianne? Wouldn't it have been more logical to have been with one of his earlier wives?

This second season of Code Geass has so many plot holes.

As for this episode, it's basically a perfect example of the kind of 'trainwreck' storyline Geass is good at. By now everyone should stop expecting logic or good character development or intelligent plot out of the series. If you watch the series for the lulz and trainwreck moments, I think you'll get more enjoyment from it.

I don't think Lelouch and Suzaku have really gone evil, they're just using the most effective means. Very soon Lelouch will liberate all the Area's, and give them back to the people.

I bet you Nunally isn't dead yet, Schnizel probly has her as a hostage, it would probly be the only thing he could really use against Lelouch, that and FREIA, because the Black Knight's are pretty much useless drones Lelouch could easily bend them to his will once again.

I agree with you, Garten. I can't really see where this is going to. Especially with the whole deal that Schneizel isn't affected (?) by Lelouch's Geass. Speaking of which, what happened to those who saw the TV broadcast, but has already been geassed by Lelouch?

As for the ending... Probably Lelouch would have a face-off with Schneizel, who is escorted by C.C. Er, yeah. Seeing C.C's reaction at the end of this episode, I'm judging that she doesn't really want to have any connections to Lelouch anymore. Well, it's another case if she is going to be the last person who'd still accompany Lelouch even if the world ends.

I don't get why so many people keep going on about this being a train wreck and yet they keep watching it. I actually don't fully understand exactly why it's so hard to accept the whole "gods" thing but apparently the magical powers, immortal witches and futuristic mechas are all ok. Of course this is just my personal opinion but I like the direction it's taking so far. Like a lot of other people I was expecting a Lelouch vs Charles until the very end, and with some sort of revelation about Charles being the killer of his mother. While that would have been a good way as well I think this is a lot less predictable and arguably more entertaining.

As to why Lelouch and Suzaku did what they did, how is that unlike them? Lets see: Suzaku's plan to become the Knight of One failed, Lelouch lost his personal army, Nunally is dead, so are Euphie and Shirley, Lelouch's mother turned out to be a "traitor", need I go on? Pretty much their entire world is crumbling around them, they're desperate and have nothing to loose. Taking over Britannia is a brilliant move on their part that will accomplish both their goals. From the very start of the series Lelouch has been out to do two things; avenge his mother and create a better world for Nunally. His first goal is done or rather made pointless, taking over Britannia is the perfect way to achieve the 2nd one, and it's in line with Suzaku's old policy of changing the empire from within. Just because the storyline took an unexpected turn doesn't mean is ruined, at least for me its not.

I believe that has little to do with the Ragnarok Connection and Charles's plans in general, which is mentioned by name right back in episode one.

Maybe we would have seen it handled differently, over more episodes or what have you, because of the changes you are pointing to...but I don't see any reason to believe that the concept itself (and what it implies about past events and the like) would be something else entirely.

That was just to lure out C.C. Quite literally a whole war was fought just to make her vulnerable! Lelouch and Nunnally were nothing in the grand scheme of things.

>On top of this, I always find that fast-forward to a few months/years later is never a good plot device.

The skip doesn't mean much, what Suzaku and Lelouch did during that time was talk about stuff, like, the truth of Lelouch's actions. Schneizel was conquering more nations, peace with the UFN was pending.

Personally, I'm still watching the series 'cause I'm already pretty deep into it. Not sure how to explain it, but it's like when you make a decision and you've come pretty far into a journey, you don't really want to quit. You want to continue walking to see what's ahead even if things are spiraling out of control or become really bad. I guess that's how I feel about the series right now. No matter how bizarre or odd it becomes, I'm pretty close to the end so I might as well finish it. I think quite a few of us probably are in the same boat, but that's my opinion... ^_^

I guess that makes sense, I've done it in the past with some series too now that I think about it. With only a few episodes left they could completely ruin everything and I'll still watch it just for the sake of finishing what I started.

In this particular case though I'm happy with the way things are. I guess it comes down to personal taste, and I really hope Sunrise doesn't screw this series up for me as well.

I will say that this episode was a bit unexpected. I guess Marianne can get that mother of the year award now...seriously, Lelouch spent 8 years trying to uncover the reason for his mother's murder. And for what? Even if V.V. didn't kill her, I have no doubt that both her and Charles would have casted Lelouch and Nunally aside. Not to mention they used Nunally as a "witness"...why? So Charles could string V.V. along just long enough to obtain his code?

And Lelouch and Suzaku teaming up...all I can say is about time. And Lelouch not holding back about using Geass...again...about time. I still don't know what to gather about C.C.'s look at the end of the episode. Maybe she's worried Lelouch will ultimately walk the same path as Charles. Or dare I say, maybe she regrets deceiving him about the truth regarding his parents...or the "curse" (geass) she placed on him.

I'm interested to see how the series will ultimately end. The series certainly had its share of ups and downs. Like Garten said, this series is like a speeding train. Lets hope someone hits the breaks before its too late...lol

My favorite ending: Lelouch rules the world (or most thereof...the rest at peace with his empire) in a relationship with Kallen. So Emperor Lelouch with Empress Kallen and Knight of Zero Suzaku. Most of the Black Knights can just die off if necessary. Kaguya would be nice to have around, but she's not required. Also, Lloyd and Cecil should join forces with Lelouch. Oh and no reviving dead people please. It would also be nice to keep Orange alive as well. I think I'm forgetting someone else, but the rest of the black knights and Britannian royalty/nobles can just die off for all I care. C.C. should be...well I have no idea what should be done with her. Millay and Rivalz should survive as well.

Oh and I am in the minority to say that this is my favorite anime ever. And no, I have seen a huge number of animes so don't start attacking me as someone who has no idea...Code Geass is awesome. There is no other series that completely takes me by surprise as often, and there are very few anime characters I can relate to as much as Lelouch (the only character I connect to more is Reinhardt von Lohengramm).

And this episode is great IMO...mostly for the "All Hail Lelouch!" part. The rest of the episode to me wrapped up the whole geass thing in a way I can actually get...Maybe I'm a strange person, but I didn't find anything confusing or overly convoluted. Watching this episode I also got an understanding of how geass works. I think the episode wrapped up alot. Probably the worst part was the flying rocketman emperor.

I hope that Suzaku gets something out of all this too cuz hes managed to see past his stupidness and join Lelou.

Then with all of this in order, Nina, the Black Knights and the Royal famlily can get geassed and sent to some

Well anyways, I have the sneaking suspician that Lelouch and Suzaku came to the conclusion that, in order for thier loved ones' dreams to be realized they would have to become enemy number 1 throughout the world (bearing the cross). And the world would be forced to unite under one banner agaisnt thier oppression. Thus hopfully the new-found allies will find commonality for peace.
