OP Theme: 「WORLD'S END」 by FLOW - AVI version (51.5MB) | PSP version (16.5MB)
As expected, this week marks the arrival of new OP and ED. Unfortunately, they are not as good as the first OP/ED despite being performed by similar groups, FLOW and ALI PROJECT. Visual-wise, the OP is as bland as previous OPs. This means it features Knightmare Frames and characters jumping in and out of the frame like usual. As for the song, I think I would like it better if it's not accompanied by the OP images, which don't go well with the song. The ED looks and sounds a bit better but I wish CLAMP would stop copying their own previous work. I don't want my memory of this very cool illustration of Monou Fuuma to be ruined by Lelouch/Suzaku version of it. Having said that, the rest of the illustration are really good, especially the one featuring C.C/Lelouch. The song is a typical ALI PROJECT song. I think ALI PROJECT are at their strongest when they compose songs for Rozen Maiden series. Outside that series, for some reason their songs are not as captivating/powerful. Although I remember being impressed by Coppelia's Casket, the OP for Noir.
Episode 13
In the aftermath of regaining her memories, Shirley is being asked by her schoolmates as to what happened between her and Lelouch since they are now school couple. They just want to know if the two have kissed each other. Shirley becomes embarrassed and points out that that was just an event and nothing happened yet. Villetta, however, joins the conversation, telling Shirley that everyone knows that she likes Lelouch. Shirley, however, is startled when Villetta suddenly says that she likes Lelouch to the point that she shot Villetta. Shirley's imagination continues to run wild and believes that Villetta tells her that it's hard having to smile everyday at a girl who shot her all because she has to wear a mask of a teacher. As soon as she said this, a mask falls off Villetta's face. A freak out Shirley runs out of the room but despite this, she continues to imagine that everyone around her wears a mask. When she sees Lelouch, his face morphs into a mask. The mask then falls off, transforming him into Zero. Shirley screams and when she opens her eyes, she realized the whole thing was just a dream.
Back in Chinese Federation, Li is in the middle of fighting some enemies while Lelouch keeps tab of his troops in Macau and Kazakhstan from the observation room in Ashford. Rolo assures him that the condition is favorable to them winning. Lelouch then tells Rolo that he'll go off to oversee the condition in Ikebukuro. Inside a train, Shirley starts to remember the real situation: Lelouch is Zero, Villetta is in the military, Kallen is Black Knight, but then she wonders about Nina, Milly, Rivalz. She also wonders why Nunnally is now the governer-general and is not sure which ones are lies and which ones are the truths. As it turns out Lelouch is at the train station, overseeing the G train that he's built. He tells the geassed officers that he's happy with the preliminary works done on it so the officers tell him that they'll continue the work in this style. At the same time, Shirley arrives at the same train station and is horrified when she sees Suzaku. Before she can run away, however, Suzaku stops her and asks her what's wrong. Lelouch also passes by the area and sees the two.
Back at Ashford, Villetta is relieved when he finds out that he's not around and asks Rolo why he switches allegiance to Lelouch. Rolo tells her that is between him and his 'elder brother'. Their conversation comes to a halt when someone informs them that Jeremiah is heading towards the club house after incapacitating several guards. Upon finding out about this, Rolo orders someone to tell other students not to get close to the clubhouse. As soon as Jeremiah gets closer to the clubhouse, he is confronted by Sayoko, who attacks Jeremiah like an expert Ninja. Meanwhile under the cult's temple, Bartley informs Cornelia that the Emperor and others intend on killing 'God'. He thinks it's just a figurative word but it seems those guys believe it. Cornelia thinks the idea of 'God' is stupid since she doesn't believe of its existence. She gets cut off by V.V saying that he agrees in that Gods like a Goddess with wings on her back or an old man with long beard do not exist. He, however, got cut off by Cornelia, who throws a knife to his forehead, killing V.V instantly.
Cornelia claims that there's no telling what kind of Geass the boy could use even though he has the appearance of a kid. All of a sudden, V.V's voice can be heard again, saying that as an uncle, she's proud of Cornelia. He then repels the knife out of his forehead and raise back from the dead. V.V also said that 'they' vowed to kill a God which makes people fight each other. Meanwhile, Sayoko continues to attack Jeremiah with her Kunai but it seems her attack doesn't affect him at all. Rolo then appears and geasses Jeremiah, stopping him on the track. When Sayoko tries to attack him, however, Jeremiah using his canceller geass before slicing Sayoko's back with his sword. Jeremiah then turns on Rolo and slams the kid against the pavement. Villetta then appears, causing Jeremiah to wonder if she too is working for Lelouch now. Much to his surprise, Villetta tells him that Lelouch is now in Ikebukuro and urges him to free her. Back to Shirley, she's confused as to what she should say to Suzaku while Lelouch wonders if Suzaku arranged this.
As for Suzaku, although Rivalz and official reports tell him that Lelouch has always been in Japan, he doesn't seem to believe it. Back at Ashford, Sayoko is still alive although her back has to be stitched up. Rolo wonders if Villetta intends on betraying Lelouch but Villetta tells him to go to Ikebukuro and finds Lelouch since she'll guard this place. Back to Shirley, she intends on telling Suzaku that Lelouch is Zero and her father's enemy but then she remembers that Suzaku and Lelouch are friends and therefore, she wonders if they are complicit in this case. As a result, she becomes jittery again and when they come near her, she threatens to jump off the building and accuses everyone of being fake. She, however, foolishly puts one of her legs into the air and falls off the building. Thankfully for her, Lelouch manages to catch her hand while his legs are restrained by Suzaku. Shirley tries to struggle but Lelouch refuses to let go, saying that he doesn't want to lose anyone again. Upon hearing this, Shirley realizes that Lelouch cares about her so she uses her other hand to reach Lelouch's.
As soon as she does this, Lelouch asks Suzaku to pull the two of them up. Once they all are safe, they joke around about how if Lelouch is up there, everyone will fall off. Ouch. Suzaku, however, goes back to pout when he remembers that he's laughing together with Lelouch, who killed Euphemia. Upon seeing the sudden coldness between the two, Shirley realizes that Lelouch is all alone. The uncomfortable situation is broken when Rolo calls Lelouch, warning him that Jeremiah is possibly on his way to find him. Realising that Lelouch has something to deal with, Shirley decides to drag Suzaku away with her, leaving Lelouch to deal with Jeremiah on his own. Lelouch is relieved to see this, realizing that since the area will be a battleground, Shirley will be safer with Suzaku. A few minutes later, Jeremiah arrives at the shopping mall/train station and is being stopped by two guards who have been geassed by Lelouch. Jeremiah, however, ungeass the guards and push them away. Lelouch, who sees this from above, realises that Jeremiah can cancel Geass.
He then presses a button, which causes a gas to spread throughout the mall, causing everyone to panic. In the midst of the pandemonium, Jeremiah spots Lelouch and proceeds to chase him. Meanwhile, outside the building, Shirley tells Suzaku that she likes Lelouch and wonders if Suzaku hates him. Suzaku tells Shirley that he used to like Lelouch. When Shirley asks him what he feels now, Suzaku doesn't answer, causing Shirley to tell him that it's weird since they both used to be good friends. Because of this, she wonders if they had a fight. In response, Suzaku tells her that he can't forgive Lelouch. Shirley tells him that there's no such thing since it's only Suzaku who's unwilling to forgive. She points out that she already forgave Lelouch, causing Suzaku to look surprised. Their conversation then comes to a halt when they hear the mass running like they're being chase by a bull. Suzaku immediately takes charge of the situation by showing his Knight of Seven badge and asks two guards to take Shirley back home.
Meanwhile, the rest of Black Knight are having meeting when Tamaki comes and interrupts them. He tells Ougi that he gets a strange message from Zero. As it turns out, it's not Zero who calls them but Villetta. Ougi immediately recognizes her voice. Meanwhile, Shirley decides to run back to the building to help Lelouch. Meanwhile, Lelouch is cornered by Jeremiah so he tells the guy that he's impressed with Orange's new machine body, Geass canceller, and tenacity. Jeremiah, however, argues that this is not tenacity. This is loyalty. Lelouch is unimpressed that Jeremiah places his loyalty with the Emperor and presses a button. Upon doing this, a bunch of Gefjun Disturber pops out on top of the train next to them, causing Jeremiah's body to stop functioning. Lelouch realizes that the functionality of Jeremiah's body uses Sakuradite, which is now paralyzed by Gefjun Disturber. At the same time, Shirley has entered the building as well and meets with Rolo, who's also looking for Lelouch. Upon seeing Rolo, Shirley asks him if he likes Lelouch.
Near the train, Jeremiah starts to bleed from his geass eyes but he still lurches towards Lelouch, wondering why Lelouch is against his own homeland and his father. Lelouch becomes angry and tells Jeremiah everything about how his father only watches when his mother got killed then left him and Nunnally to fend for themselves. Upon hearing this, Jeremiah tells Lelouch that he knows because he was there. He was supposed to guard Marianne but he couldn't do the job properly. He know realizes that Lelouch becomes Zero for Marianne. Lelouch is surprised to hear this, realizing that Jeremiah didn't come to kill him. Jeremiah claims that his master is not V.V but Marianne. Just as he's about to collapse, Jeremiah tells Lelouch that he regrets his action. Lelouch immediately stops the Disturber and tells Jeremiah that his loyalty should not end here. Back at Rolo, he admits that he likes Lelouch since he's his only brother. Shirley is relieved to hear this and offers to help to protect, make Lelouch happy, and help him find Nunnally. Upon hearing the last word, Rolo snaps and unleashes his geass.
Meanwhile, Lelouch has just finished his conversation with Jeremiah so he tells others that he is now an ally, ordering them not to shoot him. When he arrives at a floor, however, he realizes that Shirley is laying in her own pool of blood. Lelouch tries to call a doctor but Shirley stops him. She tells him that when her memory returned, she was afraid. Her teacher is fake, her friends don't have their memory anymore, and everyone tells lies. As he watches the world around her, she realizes that Lelouch is fighting in this world all by himself. Because of this, she wants to give herself to Lelouch. She tells Lelouch that she loves him. Even after she found out about his involvement in her father's death, she couldn't find a way to dislike him. Even after Lelouch took away all of her memory, she still likes him. Lelouch, who's afraid that Shirley is going to die, tries to geass her so that she won't die. Despite this, Shirley continues to tell him that no matter how many times she's reborn, she'll continue to like Lelouch. This is fate. Lelouch tries to geass her over and over again but his effort doesn't work. Shirley eventually passed away after telling Lelouch that she'll always love him.
Highlights
* Shirley looking afraid upon seeing Suzaku, causing him to think that she's afraid because he wears a Pedobear-like sunglasses.
* Cornelia throwing her knife at V.V like it's nothing. She must have the strength of a giant for the knife to actually pierce V.V's skull like that.
* Sayoko vs. Jeremiah. Trust it to Sunrise to give the viewers a flash of her panties while she goes Ninja up Jeremiah's ass.
* Jeremiah slamming Rolo down into a pavement. He got it all wrong. I think that psycho is a masochist and that just excites him.
* Suzaku telling Shirley that if Lelouch is the one who's up there, all of them will fall off. I don't think there's sarcasm in this sentence but it's still funny because it's true. Lelouch is kind of weak when it comes to physical task like this.
* LOL, Lelouch claiming that he's being chased easily by Orange because Orange's body is that of machine. Has he forgotten the time when he got beaten by Milly in a run, who was wearing a long dress, btw?
Impression:
Unless there is life after death in this series, this is pretty much the end of Shirley. I knew that getting all of the student council members back like they used to would be impossible. To begin with, Nina is crazy and would not forgive Lelouch if she finds out about Euphemia. And then there's Suzaku, who might be able to forgive Lelouch but it'll take some kind of good twist for this to happen. I didn't expect that Shirley would become one of the victims as well. But I guess the writers feel that they can't develop her further without making her look like a prodigal daughter to her father, who was killed by Lelouch. It's a rather different situation in comparison to Suzaku. Although he was close to Euphemia, she's not his relative. Thus, it can be argued that the degree of betrayal is smaller. It can also be said that Euphemia's death was an unfortunate accident due to Geass. Having said that, it's hard not to wonder if Lelouch will eventually end up being all alone as warned by C.C when she first gave him Geass. It feels that way especially since Shirley keeps saying how she doesn't want Lelouch to be lonely.
Anyway, the question here is whether Shirley killed herself or if she was killed by Rolo. Judging by Rolo's expression in this episode, I'm inclined to believe that the latter is the answer for this. Rolo doesn't seem to want anyone to be by Lelouch's side except himself. This is why the word "Nunnally" set him off because of all people, it's Nunnally that Lelouch works hard to change the world for and Rolo knows this well. Another interesting twist here is the role reversal between Rolo and Orange. Now that Orange knows that Lelouch intends on avenging Marianne's death, he is more than happy to help Lelouch. The irony is that Rolo has now become a torn in Lelouch's side. He's mentally imbalanced and pose a threat to anyone that he deems too close to Lelouch. Hey, maybe he can see Lelouch and Suzaku going back to being good buddies. Then maybe he'll get rid of Suzaku as well. Joking aside, here's a food for thought: what if Rolo was the one who assassinated Marianne? After all, with his Geass, no one would know who's responsible for it since he can easily sneak out of the palace.
ED Theme: 「わが露うたし悪の華」(Waga Routashi Aku no Hana) by ALI PROJECT - AVI version (99.9MB) | PSP version (17.7MB)
Man, Rolo must die for what he's done. What a psycho. I want him skinned alive now!!
I cried when Shirley died. Rest in piece Shirley & i hope Rolo gets what he deserve!
I didn't expect Orange-kun to change his allegiance like that. I assume he didn't know beforehand that Zero is Lelouch? Otherwise why didn't he contact Lelouch earlier?
Why do people assume that Rolo is the killer? We didn't even see what he did after he opened his eyes. Okay, he's the most likely suspect but if that's the case, why didn't the animators show us what he did?
Am I the only one that was like, "Go Rolo!" in that scene? Seriously, Shirley was cool and everything and her death did come as a shock to me, but I dob't feel anything beyond that. I think its perhaps the avid yaoi fan in me - saying go LuluRolo. Anyway Suzaku, I am wondering if he'll ever forgive Lelouch for what he has done - Orange crying was so of hard to watch. I mean the poor man has suffered enough.
Rolo can't have killed Marianne he would have since he would have been too young. A psychopathic toddler is a bit too much for my mind to accept.
Although there is a good chance her death might have got something to do with the Geass affair.
Shirley. A victim of limited episodes available?
My eyes started watering at the end of this episode. Shirley looked like Euphie when she was dieing, they both had geass in their eyes. (Shirley died in episode 13 and so does her father irony) The only friend Lelouch has at Ashford is Rivalz right? Maybe he'll die too. I think that Kallen is going to fight against the Black Knights because Guren and Lancelot were both upgraded the same way.

okay that was messed up! first of all Shirley died, okay she was the only person that actually understood him! She actually understood he was lonely and that's why she wanted to be with him. But she died, and that too by some mentallly retarded lunatic goes crazy and decides to kill a person standing infront of him because he's obsessed with some guy! Lelouch better be taking her death harder than anyone elses he better!
I am pretty sure Rollo is the one who killed Shirley. But man Lelouch geasing her to live over and over, that was just touching. Rollo, I hope you die a nasty painful death
I dunno teo, Garten's suggestion does make a lot of sense if you think about it. Age wise, he is just a year or two behind Lelouch, and as the flashbacks from earlier episode show, Rolo was already performing assassinations as a very young child (although the fact that Marianne was killed in a rather violent, and not subdued manner seems to suggest that Rolo probably isn't responsible).
In any case, Rolo is a headcase. If Lelouch does somehow reunite with Nunally, it is definitely within Rolo's personality and Lulu-obsession to kill her, so a world with Rolo AND Nunally together with Lelouch is next to impossible. I honestly think something has to be dealt with concerning Rolo, because he is only going to be a problem to Lelouch as time goes by.
The OP seems to suggest three factions - Schneizel, the Emperor, and Lelouch. I'm curious as to how Schneizel will move now, because for the last few episodes he shows (at least discreetly) that he isn't exactly fond of how his father deals with things - combine this Cornelia, who is a pro-Marianne individual like Jeremiah and it's hard for me to predict where the show will go.
We still haven't been given any information about the possible connection between Anya and C.C....
1) The new float packs for both the Guren and Lancelot makes this series look more and more like Gundam. As someone on animesuki forum said once: new Lancelot upgrade = Lancelot Freedom LMAO
2) anna_w: Orange knew Zero = Lelouch, he just didn't realize that Lelouch = son of the late empress Marianne (though the late part is questionable)
3) look at this episode carefully again, the scenes with the flashbacks to Marianne's assassination. Marianne's body was on top of Nunally's with her eyes open looking into her daughter's. So people who are thinking that Nunally may have a secret Geass may be onto something, if the so called spoilers that Marianne is a member of the Geass people.
correction on my previous comment: Orange didn't realize why Lelouch became Zero, he knew who Lelouch was.
Garten: a knife thrown with enough force can easily penetrate the skull bone. An average adult male in optimum physical condition can thrust a knife through a kevlar bullet proof vest which is strong enough to stop a 9mm bullet. The reason is a knife has a pointy tip, less surface area to spread the force while a bullet (mostly for handguns) have a flat or concave tip.
Think about all the knives we use in the kitchen to chop pork ribs, chicken bones, etc.
Anyway, you should add 1 more thing: Typical of Sunrise to kill off a few prominent female characters (think back to Gundam Seed). Near the end they killed off quite a few of the major female characters. In fact most of the Gundam franchise by SUNRISE has killed off a few female leads regularly.
Sunrise seems to enjoy killing female casts so much that I sometimes wonder if they are into this male macho female submissive perversion.
LOL seems I am multiple posting, just re-watching this episode several times, especially the new OP sequence.
1) In the start of the OP after showing Lelouch holding his Zero mask and the close-up into his geass eye, if you watch in slow motion you will see a white mask just before it switches to Zero's mask.
2) When Lelouch was looking at the status of what is happening in CF, I'm surprised Kallen's status is still listed there though at the moment she is in prison.
Meh... I just want Lelouch to hurry and rescue Kallen...
To be fair, killing female character has been a staple of CLAMP's work. I know CLAMP doesn't work on this but they do the character design. It's possible, they have a little bit of input on the character's fate as well.
But I agree with everyone that Rolo is a pscyho. I have no delusions that he'll end up as Lulu's happy little brother.
This is a messed up episode. Shirley's death serves no purpose whatsoever!! What's the point of killing her? She didn't make Lelouch regret anything, she didn't advance the plot. The only thing that killing her did was reducing one cast members.
On a hindsight, I hope this means that Kallen is save. Because I get the feeling that C.C will die so I hope that at least one girl makes it alive and Kallen will be it. C.C doesn't look like she wants to live long either.
As for Marianne's murder, I agree that it's not out of the question it could be that sick nut, Rolo. He was a "Nikita" since what looks like a primary school. I assume he was around Nunnally's age back then. Plus whoever shot Marianne did it so quickly that no one else knew who killed her. The only person who can do this is Rolo. Here's the kicker: the person who hired Rolo was the Emperor, right?
@Novan: since when? I assume only this season because it doesn't make sense if it started since last season.
As for Rolo killing Marianne, hmm, maybe. It's an interesting theory either way.
Considering Rolo's penchant for killing anyone who knows too much, it seems obvious that he killed Shirley... but for some reason I feel like it doesn't add up. Considering what CG writers usually come up with, it's a little too straightforward... I mean, if that were the case, why wouldn't they show him shooting her? Plus, he's not holding a gun when he's talking to her and although he could easily grab the gun from her with his geass on, why would he give it back? She's holding the gun like she never let go of it... weiird.
I'm starting to notice a worrying trend with Code Geass. A popular character tends to get longer shelf life than those who are not popular. Proof? Euphemia wasn't popular and she was killed. Orange, on the other hand, has been popular since the beginning and he keeps surviving over and over again. And now since Shirley is not popular, she too get killed. I think the writers need to stop paying attention to the fans and just tell the stories they want to tell.
Rest in peace, Shirley
anyway, Sayako VS. Jeremiah is cool!!!
and by the looks of the New OP which is cool, looks like Code Geass will be just like Gundam because the battle might extend in space....
BTW, the map that is seen in the last part of the OP looks like the map used in Gundam 00.
Man.... I am so depressed after watching this episode.
It's almost just like the whole Euphie thing all over again... things were seeming to get a lot happier (with Shirley deciding she didn't want Lulu to be alone anymore and that she wanted to be with him...something that would have encouraged him a lot) only to get a whole lot worse....
I was like 'awww' when Shirley said she had already forgiven Lelouch for killing her father and that Suzaku should forgive Lelouch. But Rolo... how could you??? I think he would have been fine with what Shirley was saying right up until she mentioned Nunnally....
But I think Shirley tells the truth when says that she will continue to love Lelouch even in the next life. There have been a lot of mentions of 'fate' 'destiny' and 'reincarnation' when it comes to Lelouch and Shirley's relationship.
Also, Orenji-kun wanting to serve Marianne even beyond the grave is very heartwarming...
Killed by Rolo. I can't believe this. I think what pissed me off the most is the fact that it's Shirley who got killed by Rolo instead of that psychotic bitch Nina. Rolo better suffer before he dies and hopefully in the hand of some useless character, all alone without Lelouch even noticing that he got killed.
you know, guys, i think we're overlooking something here. You know in that heartwarming scene where Lelouche geasses Shirley not to die? It actually works, even when she got geassed before, and lelouche managed to make it work several times (okay in the long run it didnt really work but....)
the way i see it, either lelouche gets a geass level up, or orange-kun's canceller is a shitpwnagely useful tool.
If it got leveld up, then that means multiple geassing! wooo!
papylon: Actually, Euphemia wasn't the most popular, but she was popular enough and still died. You think she wasn't popular, but you're actually fairly wrong.
Wormhole: I'd love to throw a big spoiler here, but unlike other people who do that carelessly, I'd rather not. Wait until next episode for....something.
Camario, I can't wait for this spoiler. Can you please put it in spoiler tag? (see below on how to do it). I'm sure no one will mind if you tag it correctly.
Well, I certainly didn't see that one coming. Guess the writers were not satisfied with just keeping Shirley in the background.
A convenient way for Taniguchi (the director) to get out of the whole "Shirley loves the guy who killed her father" squicky plot point and wrap up that part of the story?
So what mental anguish is the director going to put Lelouch under next?
Look at Mao, he survived! Shirley can toooo! D= Shhh lemme stay in denial a little longer. T___T
We lose Shirley and get Orange? I am not satisfied.
thought this episode would suck. turned out to be pretty damn good. i like orange. and i was sad for shirley's death. good scene
i LOVED this episode. this anime is sooooo suspenseful.....i cant stop watching it........though i now h8 Rolo for what he has done...
mmm
killing off shirley?
the writers must have been in a stump and decided to just to get rid of one character
writer 1: "lets just kill off rolo, then rivalz next :0"
writer 2: "hell, lets just kill off everyone except lelouch and c.c."
writer 1: "then just like Jeremiah lets remake everyone into cyborg robot things with hidden rocket launchers and railguns"
writer 2: "no need for ridiculous names for knightmare frame weapons then :D"
overall, great episode
i just CAN NOT wait to see how they will end the series or if they decide to throw in 25 more episodes
I get the feeling that the end of this series is going to end in a big reset ala My-HiME. Especially with Shirley's line that no matter how many times she's reincarnated she'll always fall in love with Lelouch.
I have a couple of notes about the opening.
1) Anyone else notice Shirley's absence from the opening.
2) Is it me or did I see Anya's Mordred on Zero's side. Possible side switch?
And it looks like Gurren and Lancelot have similar configurations now. I hope Kallen didn't switch sides, her hatred for Britiannia is about up there with Lelouche. I can't see her doing that, but why would the modifications to her mech resemble that of Lancelot?
That opening just presents a lot of questions, at least to me.
any hint of sadness that i felt during shirley's death(which wasn't much), disappeared once i saw gg's subs saying "F**K ALI PROJECT." i lol'd.
I hope the King doesn't use his Geass on Kallen so she would go against the Black Knights! I would hate that more than Shirley's death.
and If that doesn't happen I want to see some Lelouch x Kallen timie :)
when he does save her. And he BETTER.
Shirley noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
someone kill Rolo!!!!! He must die!!!!
I loved this episode, I was tired of Shirley... it would have been so cliche to have the typicall pretty high school girl with the main character...
I have my doubts about Rollo killing her... Rollo wasn´t the only one in the scene that is mentally unstable... Suzaku has his crazy moments too(do I have to remind you he was a padricide at the age of 10?)... and then if you count the fact that Shirley is pretty close to Lelouch... it could be a pay back for killing Euphie...
The opening leaves too much doubts in me... specially about Kallen´s problem, it makes me think that maybe she switches sides, theres the probability of she being geassed, ne? or maybe Nunally convinced her, I doubt so... but theres something really important about that issue, why are the producers delying so much her rescue if they just want to weak the black knights? Then in the extended preview of the episode 14 theres a woman in a chair sitting dressed as a brittanian, her head is not showed but something makes me think that she is Kallen... and then in the opening Lancelot and Guren appear together and not fighting like in the others...
About Schneizel and Cornelia I think they´ll join Lelouch, maybe not "joining" in his team, but maybe fighting for the same to stop the King from "killing the gods"...
Shirley does not look to me as important as Euphie was... the point of killing Euphie was that this send Suzaku to the edge, and that created the real hate towards Zero and whoever he was... even if that meant his best friend... and Lelouch regreted completily her death... So I dont think its comparable Euphie and Shirley...
That´s all.. cant wait for the next episode...
Gah! I don't get this series sometimes. But fine, for now I'll buy this mess of a plot that they cook up. I swear though if this ends up being like Mai-Hime (read: crappy), I'll send spam emails to Sunrise. I'm fine with them killing character but if they resurrect all of them at the end of the series, then there's no point to killing them at all.
PS: Why is it that Kallen is lacking in intelligence? Hmm, I guess she's a bit hot-headed to think clearly and some of her oopsie moments involving towels (or lack thereof) can be considered as points against her.
If Rollo really killed Shirley, Suzaku won't be happy at Lelouch, he'll think that this is another tragedy caused by Lelouch. He might also be suspicious that Lelouch had snapped out of his 'amnesia'... As for Lelouch, he won't be happy at Rollo if he knew what happend... Right now, Lulu has two killers to find, Marianne's and Shirley's... Poor guy...
The possibility of the murder is Suzaku is kinda small, seeing that Suzaku too wants to protect his Ashford friends... He still loves Nunnaly as he did before, and she's Lelouch's sis, so why not Shirley?
I'm so sad about Shirley T_T, but I'm glad that things are getting back on track and progessing with finding the truth about Marianne's murder and such. V.V. kind of creeps me out =_= He's been creeping me out since last season and it doesn't get any better with every new episode. *shudders*
The opening is kind of starting to look like something from a Gundam series =_=; I like the song... but maybe I'm just not used to it yet... For some reason I didn't think the song went too well with the images that were going on in the background. I think season one's opening & ending were a lot better. Almost feels like they got lazy with this season... ... in a way...
You know... I was starting to like Rolo for a while and I think he may have a quite a few fans out there too. Maybe because of that, the writers decided to put something like Shirley's death in so then when Lelouch finally gets rid of Rolo in the end, we wouldn't feel that Lelouch was being a jerk or something since he used Rolo and then dumped him. Kind of like making him really unlikeable (since he's probably going to get more psychotic) so when he finally gets cut off from the story, no one will throw stones at the writers? Just a thought, of course...
@Hisaya
That actually makes some sense..
As for Garten's suggestion, the idea sounds plausible. However, as tau-tau says, the manner in wich she was murdered does seem too violent for a child to be completely behind it, with the glass shattering and all. He could have simply been an accomplice, using his geass so they could escape.
Anyone want to guess which character will get killed next? Or for that matter, if anyone else will betray Lulu? My bet is on Tamaki, who becomes more and more unhappy with his position in the Black Knight. It must be unpleasant to see everyone else raise into the ranks while he remains as unimportant as ever.
wormhole, your entire reference about Rollo being a 'Nikita' is just wayyyyyyy offff.
@harappa's comment on..
>>>>"Okay, he's the most likely suspect but if that's the case, why didn't the animators show us what he did?"
Because it's not necessary. We viewers will know right away and the drama between Lulu and Shirley will be lessened in mood. Doing it this way shocks viewers and Lelouch equally at the same time which I think it's the studio's intention. But I admit there's still possibility that the culprit is not Rolo. He might see someone behind thus the Geass activation. Still, there's the white mask falling after that. Why the scene if it doesn't mean for anything revealed of Rolo's true self?
However, I can't understand why Suzaku is even being suspected... I don't lik.., ok, truth is I HATE him but him kiling off Shirley makes no sense at all. Why now, and why bother asking an officer to bring her out of scene? Besides, it is not his character. He's not a monster hunger for just anybody's blood for revenge.
Anyway, LOL at Strike Freedom & Infinite Justice in the OP ^_^''
I think Rolo as Shirley's killer is pretty obvious. There's no other possible killer considering the situation in question. The only thing that I want to know is if Lelouch will know about this soon or if he's not going to find out about it until later on in the story. I mean, he knew he was recruiting a loose canon when he got Rolo so he should have seen this coming.
@Novan
There is a whole spin off manga series dedicated to Nunnally and her geass called "Nightmare of Nunnally". Although, if the writers will mash up the stories, I don't know...
Poor Shirley... T_T
I knew she was a goner the moment she met Rolo but for some reason I don't think he was the one who killed her for the same reasons that Chloe mentioned above. I mean, assuming that Rolo took the gun from Shirley (because he wasn't seen holding one when he met her) why would he give it back to her? And if Sunrise really wanted to prove that Rolo shot her, I think they would have let us, at least, hear a gunshot after it showed Rolo using his geass. Anyway... Lulu trying to geass her to live was so sad... Poor Lulu.
It seems that I wasn't the only one that was reminded of Gundam when I saw the new opening. It's Lancelot with the Meteor unit!! lol
Speaking of the opening, it seems Nina will be a key character in the episodes to come because she appears so often. On the other hand, Suzaku hardly appears at all. He doesn't even have is own cut in the ending, when even Rival and Milly (is that a wedding dress she is wearing?!?) are there. I did feel very happy for Guilford in the opening though. It looks like he will finally be reunited with his beloved princess. ^_^ And I agree Garten, the last cut of Lulu and Suzaku just scream "X".
All in all, I am very, very happy that Lulu now has Orange-kun under his comand, because I love Orange-kun!! His loyalty to Marianne was really touching too. Everyone seems to love Marianne, don't they?
Gain one, lose one... R.I.P. Shirley.
man, I knew something was up when I didn't see Shirley in the OP... ;_;
R.I.P. Shirley, I hoped you'd survive the series, but apparently, the writers thought differently...
It seems I got too absorbed in the Orange-kun and Shirley storyline so much that I forgot to mention Viletta. I am very much in doubt of her actions here. It makes perfect sense if she really wants to be free from Lelouch's blackmail (come to think of it, I'm not sure why his threat even works on her since I don't think he has enough solid evidence to bring her down) but she just tells Rolo to warn Lelouch and to be with him. Is it possible that it's only because she wanted to send everyone away so that she could be alone and plot something which involved speaking to Ohgi? I don't have any theory, just think it looks interesting to find what she is up to, or where her heart now lies.
:/ Im going to rally all the Kallen/Lelou fans and say woot to Shirley bein shot O: Her death did advance the plot and did serve several purposes.
She would have been in the way, a distraction, a burden, it shows how much of a problem Rolo is and it also gives Lelouch more motive (and warns him of what Rolo really is D: psycho-teddy-strangler).
So woot on Shirley died and Figners Crossed that Kallen gets saved and survives with Lelouch to the end of the series O:
The fact that they didn't show who killed Shirley leaves room for doubt, but honestly Rollo makes the most sense. He had the motive, method, and opportunity. The second most likely scenario is Shirley killing herself, but she seemed to have turned the corner there and I don't buy it. The idea that Suzaku would have done it is laughable to me; I dislike him immensely but that just doesn't make sense to me, especially since I think he's being steered towards reconciliation with Lelouch.
I did find it surprising that Lelouch accepted Jeremiah's story so easily. I guess it worked out for him, but man, Orange-kun could seriously have just been making stuff up (and that's still a possibility) to get Lelouch to release him.
@Hisaya
Yes, these are the lines along which I'm thinking. The reasons to have Rollo kill Shirley, in my mind, are twofold. First, it lessens the sympathy the viewer will feel for Rollo when he dies. But also...think back to when Lelouch first got Rollo on his side. Lelouch announced how he was going to use Rollo up like a tool then destroy him. Maybe Rollo deserved it even then, but it made Lelouch seem fairly diabolical. But ever since then, it has felt like they've been trying to make Lelouch more sympathetic. It's been much easier to cheer him on lately. So now, when he does throw Rollo away, he'll continue being sympathetic because he'll be bringing justice to the psychotic who killed Shirley, instead of an unfeeling Machiavellian schemer.
I, too, think that Rolo killed her, because of 2 facts:
1. When she mentioned Nunally he knew, that she had back her Memories. That would make her a threat for Lulu, because she knew Lulu is Zero.
2. She mentioned Nunally. I think just this would be enough for him to kill everybody ^^
I dont think Kallen would switch sides, except she is Geassed by the Emperor. But with her, Suzaku and the other Knights its damn unfair, because the only really good Knightmare Pilot left in the Order would be Toudou.
About kiling the Gods, what if V. V. means with Gods people like him? I mean immortality and giving people great Power ist godlike.
And in the last Episode of the first season we saw in the Resonance between C. C. and Lulu that there a more of them.
Maybe an Invasion from outer Space? I hope not, because I dont think this fits in the Series.
But my greatest hopde ist, that there is a third season. Or, even better, it never ends ^^
I think V.V./The Geass Directorate is behind Marianne's death, and since Rolo is an assassin of their own, yeah, there's some probability of him participating in the attack, but just as a hired hand.
The writers are so unfair with the black knights, all they had was Kallen and the Guren Nishiki and now they'll make her work for Britannia just to twist things up.
The Brits on the other hand, have a lot of powerful knightmares and lots of skilled pilots.
So what are your thoughts on the women in the dress from the extended preview? she seems to be in a shrine or something, and nunally's in front of her... It seems to be confirmed, to my grief, that she's Kallen. She'll become Nunnally's knight they say. :(
I was reading a summary of the extended preview of the 14th chap.. and it says that theres an official pic with Kallen and that dress so I guess the woman sitting in the chair is Kallen...
Reasons why Kallen could join the britanians:
1. Being geassed... (more likely)
2. Nunally convinces her, and she agrees to protect Lulu´s sister (i doubt it)
3. Remember that Kallens mother is in jail... they could blackmail her, but I think her loyalty to lelouch is stronger... but who knows maybe... I agree with the fact Kallen is a bit hot-headed...
Then in the opening Anya seems to be with the black knights... whats that? its the way to compesate the black knights for Kallens absence... Is that what would happens after telling us why Anya knows Lelouch Vi Britania?
Cornelia joins to? she in jail in the preview... would Zero rescue her?
I keep my theory of Rollo not being the murderer, its too obvious that seems like a trick... ok maybe nobody agrees with me that it was Suzaku, but like I said he´s crazy too, even he seems to be the only one who regrets things... whatever if it wasnt Suzaku it could be someone else... could have been Ougi... Villeta called him, right? to tell him something about Zero... (ok I guess my mind has gone crazy here, please don´t mind me) I dont think Villeta is loyal to Lelouch its obvious, but I do think that she teamed up with him for Ougi... the question is who she is more loyal to? her status or her ex-lover?
What happens with CC? wheres the pizza no onna? I miss her... and whats her connection with Marianne? is it me? or you can talk with the death? remember the emperor talking to Clovis?
About Shirley I didnt like her, thats very clear, but I think her death could have been more touching, if they hadnt cut the development of her relation with Lulu, since the first season, and then suddenly they brought it back... I guess the council members wont light fireworks together ne??
Hope to see more action soon, I miss the knightmare... Tamaki betrays??
Errr... wouldn't Rollo be a small kid when lelouch's mom was attacked? XD
@Muriel
That's true... I was kind of confused with what side Villeta is on. She has no reason to side with Lelouch... she can't be changing sides because of her affection for Ougi... I seriously don't think she was being tsundere when she shot Ougi. =P
I like the idea of Kallen becoming Nunally's knight though! Seeing that the Lancelot and Gurren got the same upgrade and how the OP mixes up all the characters, perhaps the world is uniting against the Emperor. Haha - what a sappy ending.
I also don't think Orenji-kun is mentally stable enough to be a mole... So if he says he's on Lelouch's side - it's probably true.
I guess it could work that Rollo killed Lelouch's mom and was working on orders from the Cult since it seems like Marianne has a strange connection with the Cult (via C.C.) ...when he was 8. Still, it's a little far-fetched so I hope that's not what the writers are trying to do... *sigh* Why did the writers put all that effort into making Rollo more likable if they were just going to make him "the-one-who-murdered-Shirley"? They're too cruel!!
I find it hard to believe that Kallen is less charismatic than any other Black Knights. Plus, since when Ougi becomes charismatic?
And oh, Rolo is definitely Shirley's killer. Any other person will be a complete shark jumping moment. There's just no reason for other characters to kill her. Not even Suzaku, who considers her a good friend.
@Walviss
I was pretty surprised that Lelouch accepted Jeremiah's words so quickly too at first. I was also wondering if he was only making stuff up at first in order to get Lelouch to let him go, but apparently there's evidence that he's really genuine about what he said:
I think on DVD 5 of season 1, there's a scene on an extra (Stage 4.33 Picture Drama) where Jeremiah and Villetta are talking in his office and he tells her about the two times where he failed to protect members of the royal family -- Marianne and then Clovis. When he told her about Marianne and what happened, and then went on about how Lelouch and Nunnally died -- he thought they were both killed in Japan like everyone else was -- and then how he failed to protect Clovis, he started crying until Villetta told him to stop since it wasn't very lord-like. Because of Lelouch & Nunnally's "deaths," I think that's why he joined the Purist Faction (?), which Lelouch mentioned in this episode.
I've been searching around for those DVD extras, but haven't really seen any released for dl yet. I found them on YouTube just now though. Type in Code Geass 4.33 to get the picture drama for Jeremiah's & Villetta's conversation. I highly recommend Code Geass Picture Drama 7~ It's fantastic ^_^!
I really didn't care much for shirley as a female viewer she was mostly just an annoyance. Also I
"Reasons why Kallen could join the britanians:

you forgot N4: after so many days of being alone in jail, Nunnally did things to her... unspeakable things worthy of a yuri/hentai episode... yeah, i am a sick, sick puppy...
I feel sorry for Shirley...
She didn't play much important role in the series and wasn't my favourite character..but still, her death was a sad loss...
Sayoko's appearance as 'combat maid' reminds me of Fiore from Chrno Crusade..!
Right when Zero looks over everyone's data, I paused it and laughed aloud when I saw Tamaki's stats...40 total, LOL. Plus his picture has him with a dumb smile on his face.
Poor Shirely. I didn't wanted her to die. There's a probability that Rolo didn't kill Shirely. Like what the others say before me, Shirely was still holding the gun when Lelou found her and wouldn't it be easier to just show Rolo killing her. In some point, I think maybe Suzaku killed her (revenge for Euphie). You never know. Poor Shirely. Shirely come back to life. Maybe they'll use her as a experiment (even though that would be sad).
I was hoping Nina would die. I don't like Nina. Nina totally got the wrong impression when Euphie saved her and also wasn't Milly protecting her too. GAH!! I hope by the time this season is over Nina dies.
I'm not a fan of Rolo, it seems like Rolo and Nina are in the same boat (mental wise).
I hope they actually show who killed Shirely. Maybe Rolo was trying to protect Shirely but since he can't stop objects that are not human or so, he couldn't save her.
Hmm, anyone know where we can find the release dates for the R2 episodes?
I think, Kallen will get rescued (shes moved up in the Lulu love match since Shirley is KIA) Cornelia wil try to help the order but get killed and Orange will either betray them or die. or help the order. who knows O.o
Uh...I forget you Anya is, but Nina is gonna be the next major problem. Theyve brought back some old characters and resolved them for now. So nin is gonna pop up and be a b***h like always :/
Oh no...how can Shirley die!!!???
T_T
I could kinda imagine V.V. teleport behind Shirely to kill Rolo (because he'd switched side), and well, since Rolo's geass doesn't work on V.V., it turned into a gunfight and bang, Shirely down...
well, just a thought...
"wormhole, your entire reference about Rollo being a 'Nikita' is just wayyyyyyy offff."
Uh, care to explain why? Do you really think that a kid would become a professional assassin all on his own? Someone must have trained him since he was young. That's what I meant by the "Nikita" part of my comment. Plus, Rolo has expressed desire for normal life at times so it's kind of fitting to call him "Nikita".
grr.. why they decided to kill shirley instead of Nina.
Nina has getting on my nerves with her attitude ( just like Rolo, too obsessed ).
maybe they can kill Nina after she completed the Ganymede
or maybe we can hope that Shirley didn't die? goes into a coma or something.....
maybe Kallen won't switch sides, it's just that the Brits will keep the Nishiki. i really hope Kallen won't switch sides.
grr.. kallen is still in enemy hands, and shirley just *died* (she better NOT have - im going to be pissed, there was development that could have still been there!!!!!) . . . just have to wait for next weeks episode.
Shirleyyy
Why did she have to dieeee T.T
i must be one of them few people who like Shirley better than Kallen.. = =;
Rollo had better run for his life once Lelou finds out!!
I'm counting down the episodes towards his brutal death.
i don't have anything against Shirley i like her as a character in the story, when she said something about being reincarnated made some sort of possibility but then again she could be just saying that. Poor Shirley you could of had a much bigger part to play then that T.T
A few simple things:
1) IMO, just because the Guren gets upgraded by Lloyd, who we have already seen on a meeting about what should they do with the Guren a few episodes back, doesn’t give any kind of proof that Kallen would actually get on the side of the Brits. Lloyd probably just decided to upgrade the Guren and use it for themselves instead of stealing its technology and building a new frame from scratch, just like when Laksharta completed the Gawain for the BKs. That doesn’t mean in any way that the Brits want Kallen to pilot it, on all of her images on the opening she appears with BKs clothing and not even with a troubled look on her face or something that would suggest she’s struggling over two sides (like Rollo on the first ending). Besides, with the geass cancellor on Lulu’s side, even if she gets mind-raped by the Emperor (unlikely considering she’s being held by the Schneizel fraction), they can just get her back with no problem at all. The upgrade is probably just so both the Lancelot and the Guren (once it gets stolen back onto the BKs) look “cool” for the incoming battles between the two of them (and also, so they’re once again on a whole new level of power compared to the other knightmares as it was on the R1, considering that now 7 generation models are everywhere).
2) The Mordred appears surrounded by the knightmares of the BKs on the opening, just like the Tristan. Therefore, all of this Anya to the BKs side seems like mere wishful thinking by avid fans.
3) On the opening, at the very beginning (after the image with the white mask), there’s a very brief image of a cliff with the silhouettes of what seem to be the Emperor, V.V. and Marianne (or at least, it’s a female who looks a lot like her). It’s not clear enough to see if the image is set on the present time or if it’s actually from the time Marianne was alive, but it anyway proves that she knew V.V.
Should I feel bad for actually wanting Shirley to die? -________-
I didn't pay too much attention to the scene, but did Shirley have any sort of gun wound, or a Rolo-knife wound? Although it is sort of hard to tell under that much blood.
I'm going for Lulu turning against Rolo, Rolo still fighting for his dear brother, messing everything up, and then on his deathbed or something reveals that he didn't kill Shirley.
Or maybe Lulu can geass him into telling him who killed Shirley, and we get another Clovis-like scene.
I'm sort of looking forward to a Rolo vs. Nina thing at the end. xDD
WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK ITS ROLO?!?!?!
it could be jeremiah!! since he always uses the 'kinfe' and didnt lelou already say:
'i told jeremiah to go on ahead, he will get RID of any obstacles in our way...blah blah blah'
she was holding a gun! rolo could have stopped time and did some stuff to make jeremiah think of her as an 'obstacle'
even if jeremiah is good or in the 'cool' side atm...that doesnt mean he cant kill shirley...he doesnt know shirley and if shes holding a gun near lelou then possibly he would want to kill her with the thought of her as an obstacle rite?!
i believe its JEREMIAH WHO KILLED SHIRLEY! NOT ROLO!
but then again....it couldve been a gun shot which is an entirely different story...
whats wrong with kallen? howd you know she'll be fighting against black knights...shes way to loyal for lelou dont you guys think?
LOL...you do have some points fu~mofu however, i do think that rollo is still the one who killed her becuase there are many other reasons for him to kill her.
but i really do like your point of view. i would doubt anyone would think orange-kun would kill her just after becoming part of the black knights.
SHIRLEY!
im sorry fu~mofu but rollo must die painfully and nastily.
Shirley was shot, if you look at the episode carefully you will see the bullet hole.
I'm crying...
Orange-kun's change of heart really surprised me. I'm not sure if he's entirely on Zero's side.
What I really love in this series is that (in my opinion) there are no good or bad guys. Lelouch? Well, though his aim is right, he's pretty much a psycho in some cases, sometimes pretty cold and although he says what he is doing is for Nunally, it would certainly be against her will.
Suzaku? He killed his father. He blindly hates Lelouch. But, ihmo, his ways are stilll better than Lelouchs. And don't tell me he didn't make any progress. I mean, at the start he was a simple soldier, now he's one of the knights.
Schneizel? I don't really know about him.
The only one that I always thought to be the pure 100% bad guy was the emperror. And then the kid says "If there are gods who make people wage war, we are going to destroy them"
WTF? I thought you were the guys waging war?
To the whole Rollo thing. I really don't like Rollo. Didn't like him before this and now even less. BUT there is something strange about this. It really doesn't seem like Rollos way of killing to me. It's just...to rough, to unclean leaving her still alive. There's something strange about this. As to the theory that Rollo killed Marianne...well, I don't really think that is it, again, the kill seems "unrolloish". However, someone said Rollo would have been to young. If I remember correctly, Rollo once said his time "would flow differently". Now, if you look at his geass, it's not his time which flows differently. It's the time of those who are caught in it. The time of those outside the geass range and Rollo's are exactly the same. So isn't it possible that there is something else behind this message? We still have no idea about possible side effects of the geass.
Oh and by the way. Am I the only one who gets constantly reminded by C.C and Lelouch of Ryuk/Light? Somehow I always manage to find some parallels.
@Wightnish: we already know that C.C. and Lelouch are like Light and Ryuk since because Code Geass is like Death Note....except for some themes like war, racism, mecha, and Lulu going emo in epi 6......
Also for those who think that Kallen joins Britannia is because you jumped into conclusions too seriously.....In the EXTENDED preview of episode 14, you do see Kallen wearing a Britannian styled dress she is also being held in a cell. Nunnally can be seen talking with her. If she was cooperating with Britannia they wouldn’t be keeping her in a cell. It just looks that Nunnally had Kallen moved to a nice cell.
Let’s also not forget that in the regular preview of for episode 14 you can clearly see someone grabbing the right hand control for the Guren. Judging from the jacket sleeve it looks like Lelouch. I don’t see why he would get the Guren and not her as well.
Let us also not forget that in this latest opening Kallen is shown twice in her Black Knight outfits. People keep pointing to that first shot saying she looks sad. None of the people in that short section of the opening look happy. The second time you see Kallen in the opening not only is she in her Black Knights flight suit, but she’s the first of the Black Knights you see and she looks very happy.
I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the fact the Guren has similar wings to the Lancelot. In the one shot showing many Knightmare Frames the Tristan and the Mordrid have Black Knight style wings, but look closer.
The Black Knight wing tips are red and the Britannian’s are green. Its the same difference with the wings on the Guren and Lancelot. the wing styles and colors are different.
To bolster my argument even more. Go to the official Japanese website. The Guren, with these new upgrades, is clearly shown in the Black Knights section.
WAAAHHHHHH SHIRLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
rollo......MUST DIE!
Rolo...ahh Rolo...
Shirley...sooooo good...
Suzuak...still dope.
Lelouch...damn dude, your life is the saddest fiction ever written.
I love this show.
meh....
Shirly had "sacrificial lamb" written all over her, but this was a pretty.... lame(?) way to have her killed if you ask me

"WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK ITS ROLO?!?!?!"
Because he's the most likely suspect. No one else is insane enough to kill Shirley. Jeremiah was with Lelouch when Shirley got killed. It's impossible for him to kill Shirley then talk to Lelouch or to talk to Lelouch then kill Shirley.
I have a really hard question for everyone that I havent seen yet. What d you think Lelou would do if Nunnaly died D:
I mean, if she died uz of him its obivous but what if the Emperor or Rolo or Britannia somehow kiled her? Would he go crazy and be more motivated to do something or would he like go emo and kill himself :/
Very intriguing...(sorry if this is a bit off but its becoming apparent that Nunnally might become either another Euphie or another Marriane :/ )
True, Rolo seem to be the most likely suspect, this is why I'm doubting it as well at the same time. It was too obvious that it was him who killed Shirley. But then maybe it's just the scriptwriter playing with the audience's mind by letting us doubt that Rolo killed Shirley though it was very obvious that he did .
I also think Shirley's death kind of resemble the death of Euphie a little. After Euphie (or however you spell her name) died, Suzaku went crazy and he was desperately trying to seek revenge. That may happen to Lulu after Shirley's death (judging from the title of ep. 14). So Shirley's death might act as a turning point. Also when Euphie died, Suzaku thought it was zero who killed her, and we all know that lulu didn't want that to happen at all, but if we audience didn't see get to see what went on when them two were alone, we would just think zero killed her and that was it. So it might goes the same with Rolo...maybe...
it would be an interesting thought however; if they don't resurrect Shirley at the end; if Lelouch gained an ability like C.C's and is able to communicate to her from the beyond, thus fulfilling one of her dieing wishes to be what was true to Lelouch and to be with him, even if it's in "spirit"

WHAT THE FUCK IS THE MYSTERY? OBVIOUSLY IT WAS ROLO!!!! ok so when she started talking about blah blah blah she mentioned nunally and he used his geass which obviously stops time he probably took the gun and shot her then put the gun back on her hand SO it would look like suicide! hes sick i hate him he needs to die. and yeah i cried TT_TT she was awesome
ok i just wanna say die rolo and another thing die c2 another thing more thing kallen get free from that mad man and shirley whyyyyy and um yey kallens not dead...........yet 0_0 dont die kallen you and nunally are my last hopes!!!!!
