Well, now we know that Rollo's power doesn't actually freeze time but it does stop the physical movement time of a person that is enveloped within his geass sphere. To make it easier, I'll just say that his power basically stops a person from moving but not anything else in the world. Anyway, what impressed me is the turn of event that takes place in this story. I kind of suspect that Lelouch needs some kind of miracle in order to win the duel with Guilford. True enough, he manages to create one by diverting Rollo's loyalty to him. With Rollo as his ally, Lelouch can be a lot more powerful than he is at the moment. I do think this will blow up in Lelouch's face one day but Sunrise thrives on that kind of drama so I'll just sit and watch the train wreck from here on forward. While this is fun and all, I am still dying for the story to move on a lot quicker than it is now. As a side note, next week should be particularly juicy because everyone's favorite character, Suzaku, is back to the school. I can't wait to see the amount of venom unleashed on him next week.
A flashback shows a young Rollo stopping in front of several parliament members before using his geass to freeze their movement. Once he's done that, he takes a gun from one of the bodyguards and uses it to shoot these people. In a series of interview, Rollo tells his interviewer how he doesn't remember how many people he has killed, just like there's no person who can count how many times they brush their teeth or have a meal. It's said that his geass is very suited to assasination so he kills people. He admits that he has no parents nor family but if he's ordered to, his brother will be Lelouch Lamperouge. In the present time, Lelouch asks Rollo if his geass is to stop time. In response, Rollo tells him that he has no reason to answer that question. He's only instructed to erase Lelouch should Lelouch's memory returns and Zero is revived. All of a sudden Lelouch counts forward (16, 17, 18.....). He then explains that he's been counting the time since Rollo appeared and yet, a timer shows that the time has gone a lot further than his count.
Lelouch then replays a video which shows him unable to move but Rollo could still move and obtained his gun. Because of this, he believes that Rollo's power is not to stop time but to stop his target's physical movement time. Rollo replies by telling Lelouch that if he knows that much then he knows that Rollo can't lose. Lelouch, however, tells Rollo if things stay as it is now, he won't be able to obtain two things. The first is C.C, whose appearance relies on Lelouch being the bait. The second is Rollo's own life. He asks Rollo what's in his future? For Lelouch, hope is the future. So he wonders what kind of future will open for Rollo if he manages to capture C.C. Lelouch points out that if he is killed, Rollo won't be able to achieve his mission. If he wants to capture C.C, he promises to bring C.C out tomorrow and then Rollo can have a new future. He assures Rollo that he won't lie to the guy. At the consulate general, Karen and C.C attempt to arm themselves with some guns. Karen wonders why this happens since she's sure Lelouch used Geass on the Gaohai.
They then hear someone entering the place and much to C.C's surprise, Li comes on his own. Karen tries to be cool and reminds Li that the Chinese Federation's consulate-general has recognised the United States of Japan. Li, however, tells them that the person in question is set to be eliminated soon and they will take the blame for it. Inside a train, Lelouch is relieved because he manages to persuade Rollo that if he can get C.C, Rollo will overlook the fact that he's regain his memory. The fact is, Lelouch is using his time to find out more about Rollo's origin. It seems his background does not actually involve any kind of successful career with nor loyalty to Britannia. Lelouch realises that he has not much time left since Toudou and the others will be executed tomorrow. Even if he manages to kill Rollo somehow, people will know that his memory has returned. Meanwhile, Rollo is about to enter the briefing room when he overhears the other members complaining to Villetta. They argued there's no need for Rollo to kill his own team. Rollo, however, simply turns around and tells himself that the important thing is the mission not the team.
That night, Guilford wants to know if the cause of explosion at the Chinese Federation's consulate general but his subordinates tell him that there hasn't been any official announcement. When his subordinate asks him if Zero will appear, Guilford admits that it's okay if he doesn't. As long as Zero doesn't produce any 'miracle', he will not gain support from the masses. Meanwhile, Li demands explanation from Goahai as to why he setup the United States of Japan without a permission from the Forbidden City. Since Gaohai seems more interested in supporting Zero than the Empress, Li thinks the guy is a traitor and kills him. The next day, the media reports that the execution of the terrrorist from Area 11 is about to happen. They wonder if Zero will come and save his subordinate. Meanwhile, Lelouch pretends to be a confidential command carrier who needs to give said command to a sniper pilot.
While this happens, Rollo makes one of the Britannian pilots unconscious. Inside the Chinese Federation consulate-general, Karen is preparing her Guren Nishiki and is told by Li that she can use it once Zero appears. Meanwhile, Rollo has somehow made his way inside Vincent. He swears to himself that if Lelouch lies, he'll kill Lelouch himself. On the street, the Elevens are hoping that Zero somehow appears and makes a miracle but Guilford tells them that the Zero whom they believed did not appear so he's now ready to execute the prisoners. Inside the consulate general Karen panics but C.C reminds her that she too will die if she gets out now. All of a sudden, Zero's voice can be heard saying that Guilford is wrong. C.C, however, realizes that there's nothing they can do at this point. At the same time, Zero continues his speech, claiming that the ones that Guilford is about to execute are not terrorists but rather his United States of Japan and the soldiers of the Black Knights. At the same time, Villetta asks her subordinates if they know Lelouch's location.
They inform her that Rollo is following him to the Spiral Theater (Terror House). Back outside the consulate general, Zero tells Guilford that they should set a 1 on 1 rule. Guilford agrees and tells him that other knights won't interfere. Because of this, Guilford chooses to use a lance but strangely Zero only chooses a large police shield. Toudou wonders if Zero intends on killing himself while Li seems disappointed with Zero's choice as well. Before they start fighting, however, Lelouch asks Guilford what he'd do if there's an evil that can't be brought down by justice. Would he: taint his own hand in evil to defeat evil? Or just yield to evil? Guilford simply attacks him while saying that his justice is based on the Princess'. Zero claims that if it were him, he'd be evil to destroy the greater evil. Unknown to Guilford, this is also an instruction that triggers an instruction on a man in control room. The man already kills his comrade and is now releasing the locks on floor elevator. This causes the platform where Guilford and his army are situated to tilt down.
Lelouch then orders Karen to enter the battlefield. Karen immediately reminds the other members that their priority is to save the prisoners. Lelouch then uses the big shield that he obtained to surf down the incline, stepping over Guilford's frame and flies away from the other frames. Inside her command room, Villetta looks suitably relieved after she saw Ougi being rescued. She tells her subordinates that their mission is that wicked C.C. They should let Guilford take care of the rest. Yeah right, talk about conflicting interest. Meanwhile, Karen manages to destroy one frame which destroy one of her allies. This causes other Britannian frames to shoot at her but he is stopped by his comrade because this is the Chinese Federation's territory. At the same time, Rollo is on his way to hunt Lelouch because he knows Lelouch has lied to him. Rollo manages to incapacitates one of the hands belonging to Lelouch's frame. Before he can do anything else, however, a sniper bullet goes towards him and unfortunately for Rollo, his geass can't be used on a physical object.
Before the bullet hits him, however, Lelouch's frame already takes the hit for him. Lelouch, who's now trapped inside the cockpit area tells him that although the memories were planted, Rollo is still his little brother. The time that they spent together were not lies. Lelouch then reminds him of his and Rollo's own future. When Guilford throws his lance to kill Zero, Rollo catches the lance with his hand. This causes Guilford to wonder if the pilot of Vincent is Zero's ally. While Rollo is in confusion, he gets a phone call from Lelouch telling him that Villetta is looking for them. Lelouch then claims that they are in separate toilet. Lelouch then lies through his teeth and tells Villetta that he won't involve Rollo in any kind of danger anymore since Rollo is not suited in a world where there are murders. At the same time, Li makes a decision to stop the Britannia forces and reminds them that this is the Chinese Federation's territory. This means Karen is finally reunited with Ougi and the rest.
Karen is concerned about Vincent but C.C thinks since it protected Lelouch it can't possibly be enemy. Meanwhile, Lelouch tries to assure a horrified and confused Rollo that right from the beginning, this is not with Britannia but here with him. Unknown to Rollo, Lelouch has actually obtained a personal data on Rollo from a notebook that Rollo left at the conference room. Lelouch has also ordered the sniper whom he geassed, David, to shoot at the frame that follows him. In addition to this, he wants David to destroy the frame that follows Zero if Zero manages to get away but to be on standby if Zero didn't. Lelouch now intends on using the fake brother who took Nunnaly's place, before throwing him away like a dustcloth. That night at Ashford Academy, Suzaku makes a re-appearance at the school.
Impression:
After thinking about it, I don't really like the way Lelouch gained Rollo as an ally. First thing first, it's completely ridiculous as to how easy it was for him to gain Rollo to his side. A sweet talk here and a sweet talk there were all that it took to get Rollo to switch sides. It's like Rollo doesn't have any kind of brain of his own. He's so easily swayed by his emotion, which is weird considering he's supposed to be a professional assassin. The other problem is that I think this took away all of the character development that Lelouch had a few episodes ago. He's now back on the same level as Light from Death Note especially with all of his posturing and his intention on using Rollo before throwing him like a dirtcloth. Come to think of it, this show has always remind me a lot of Death Note that it's starting to be a bit repetitive. Basically the main character will be in difficult situation and then at the last minute he manages to defeat all of his enemies by using a combination of tactics and supernatural weapon. In Death Note it was the Death Note and in Geass it's obviously Geass itself.
I'm also puzzled with Li's action. But I guess he just want to take over from Gaohai and pretending that he was against the poor loser. It looks like he's also into back-stabbing his rival just like Zero although he appears less insane while doing it. As for Villetta, it turns out she does have feelings for Ougi after all. She looks visibly relieved when the Black Knights saved the guy. She even ordered her men to focus on finding C.C and to leave the recapturing of the Black Knights to Guilford. I guess the writers need their cross-boudaries love story now that Euphemia is dead as a doornail. Comedy-wise, there's nothing funny here unless you count Lelouch's lies about being in a toilet to be something funny. At any rate, next week should be a bit better with Suzaku finally returning to Ashford. It'll be like Light vs. L again....except that Suzaku is dumb, self-righteous, and only has 1% of the brain that L actually has. I know for sure that I wouldn't miss the guy should he die in Lelouch's hand like L died in Light's hand.

On next week's episode: Will Lelouch poison Suzaku? Will Suzaku stab Lelouch on the back? Oh wait, he's already done that.
Very Impressive episode & im the first poster.
Is Rollo dumb or something? There's no other reason why he would trust Lelouch this easily.
Quoting from Garten's synopsis " It's said that his geass is very suited to assasination so he kills people."
So I'm guessing that Rollo's been used several times in the past to assassinate a lot of people and I think he may be getting a little sick of it and feeling closer to Lelouch as he is treated nicely by his 'onii-san'.
Rollo is like a typical teen assassin you see in every film. He's a little boy desperate for a family and his fake days with Lelouch really got to him it seems.
I'm not surprised at Rollo's decision. He's never had any family. It's like your first love. It feels different and you wonder how you lived without it.
With Rollo on lulu's side, the field's more even. I hope we won't see anymore of Suzaku jumping in with his superman act and screwing up lulu's plans every time.
You have to admire Lelouch. His plan is always pretty good. He might not be nice to his enemies but that's to be expected since his enemies are not playing nice either.
Lulu is making so much enemies now that I remember what C.C said back in the first few episodes about how a person with power will be lonely.
On the other hand, he would not have done what he did if it wasn't for his crazy father.
was it just me or did the front of ashford academy look very much like the sword of akasha?
I would like to see Suzaku facing off against Rolo's frame and see which one wins. Imagine that: Lancelot vs Vincent!
LOL. In the end Lelouch is not any different from Suzaku. They're both are equally awful human being and use people to achieve their aim. The only question left is who is the bigger tool?
I admit I first saw the premise being a lot like Death Note, but much less so now, simply because Geass does have so many limitations on it (or at least Lelouch's version), which I prefer. Much as I liked the mind games between Light and L, at some points it just seemed like Light could just order a death and solve his problems. Granted, without Nunnaly (whom I still think his feelings about are sincere), Lelouch is becoming a much colder and maybe even flatter version of himself this season than he was in the first season. It's hard to see any of his non-vengeful actions as sincere, where as I didn't have that problem last season when he's interacting with his friends, Euphemia, etc.
I'm still waiting to see what will happen with Suzaku. Despite everyone wanting him to die, I'm pretty sure his whole Geassed 'will to live' is still in effect, so it'll be interesting on how the rest of this season will play out.
I think I've pretty much given up on any kind of sensible plotting for this series. Right now it's just a matter of how over-the-top the series can be. It's mostly an action series so I don't expect the drama to be as strong as other series.
I do think that both Lelouch and Suzaku are in the wrong. I am at a point where I don't really care for either of them. Suzaku never really bothered to ask Lelouch why he killed Euphemia. I'd think that as a friend, at the very least he could ask him that. Lelouch also never did a good job of being friends to Suzaku. I guess it doesn't help that Suzaku works for Britannia and pilots Lancelot but the fact that Lelouch keeps it as a secret really what tear the friendship apart. And then there's his stupidity for accidentally geassing Euphie.
Notice the part where Viletta seemed kinda relieved when Ougi was freed. Seems she has feelings for him.
I think I predicted this turn on several blogs ("Join me, and together we'll...") with regards to tempting Rollo over by making him a 'real' brother... but it's interesting to see what else Lelouch did to make Rollo believe him.
There's no way Rollo can win against Lelouch, not when Lelouch has 'bigger' enemies to deal with (Suzaku). So I can only see him being dispatched quickly similar to Orange-kun. Hey, maybe they can be friends in misery.
I don't understand why Suzaku didn't just kill Lelouch if all that he wants in the end is for him to avenge Euphemia? Why did he go through all of these effort to send Lelouch back to his father?
Rein
He took the effort to send Lelouch back to his father
to get promoted. Then maybe continue his goal which was to change Britannia with in.
A crap...looks like Suzaku's back >_
"was it just me or did the front of ashford academy look very much like the sword of akasha?"
At first I didn't know what you meant but then I realised that you're talking about the entrance. Maybe it was designed with the same purpose?
I really enjoy reading your blog and I am glad you are updating again but I have to disagree with some of what you said.
I think Lelouch and Light have similarities (that was apparent since the beginning of the show) but Lelouch is no Light. What Lelouch did to Rollo was wrong but Lelouch views Rollo as an enemy. Rollo tricked Lelouch for an entire year and was part of what took Nunally away from him. Lelouch is not using someone he thinks is a good person or someone he cares about but he is using someone he sees as an enemy.
Compare this to Light who was not above sacrificing his family for his goals. I've seen people compare Rollo to Misa but honestly there is a big difference. Misa never did anything to Light but try to help him. Rollo actually did act against Lelouch.
And yes I don't think Rollo is very smart. He was raised to kill and that's about it. He doesn't understand human beings and that is why Lelouch was able to manipulate him. Of course the whole thing is a little silly but this is Code Geass we are talking about. Sometimes you have to suspend disbelief.
@Kim: I kinda agree with you....
one more point that differs Lelouch and Light: Lelouch is still on his true goal (at least until now) which is to destroy Britannia so Nunnally can live in peace, while Light wanted to destroy evil at first by killing only criminals, but he strayed and wanted to become a God that he killed polices etc.
Plus, Lelouch still cares about his friends and Nunnally ^^ while Light seems only care about himself ^^;
C.C's inability to load gun = win
I don't know why Britannia even bother fighting Zero anymore. They should just bow to Zero and call him "Yes my lord".
I'm still laughing at those Nunnaly = Rollo theories. I think we can get away from that now? y/y?
And oh, this picture text is awesome:
"So, where do you want me Lelouch?"
On the bed, in the shower, on the kitchen table, etc
Garten, why all the caption filled with farts? LOL
And btw, like the way how you compare L with Suzaku. LOL. Yeah, L is smarter than Suzaku and Suzaku is a normal traitor dumbass who cannot sit like L....in other words, Suzaku is no genius....he's brawl with no brains.....
Can wait for the next episode, so i can curse Suzaku very bad....
Kim, you're right that Lelouch is not on the same level as Light yet. But it's slippery slope to that point what with him geassing Shirley last season. I do like the fact that he does protect the people who matter to him.
Maki, XD gomen, it was late at night, I was tired and couldn't come up with better jokes.
I think it's understandable how Rolo switches side so easily. Judging from the locket scene in the last episode, his emotion is not at all stable when it comes to family stuff. And I guess Lelouch is able to notice that and decides to take the risk (pretending to take the blow from that glaston knight can cost his life). I'm more impressed by Lelouch's confidence and boldness than his sweet talk tactic.
One of the things I wonder about Rolo is the condition of his Geass. If he used it a lot that he couldn't remember how many people he has killed, how come his Geass is still calm, like, not going permanent like Lelouch's?
And I admit I don't understand Li's actions too. It maybe too.. political for me. Besides, how come C.C. accepts his "Black Knights killed the consulate-general" setting so easily. Wouldn't that make the Order enemy to Chinese Federation? (Is there something I missed?)
One last thing, I still don't understand how Britannia isn't able to do anything to the consulate. It is obvious it gives terrorists hideout. Even if Britannia does not want war against Chinese Federation, I expect them to at least try to negotiate or use the higher-ups' power to squeeze the Black Knights out. The audience just did not get to see that or it did not happen is what I wonder.
Rolo's emotions are just like a... girl's. Sweet talk here and there and he's all done for.
Does anyone know what C.C. and Kallen was talking about when they mentioned "Aomori" at the beginning of the episode when they were inside the embassy?
Well, Lelouch did look up Rollo and see that Rollo is just some retard with a Geass, so it's not sooo suprising.
When I breed an army of loli-shouta killers, I'll be sure to spend extra dollars on therapy and brainwashing. I think the key is to get kind, motherly evil people to work for you.
I initially was kind of skeptical on the Rollo turn, but after contemplating it I think it was actually masterfully handled by Lelouch. The most important reason for Rollo's turn is in this question: How was he going to explain what happened after letting Lelouch go to his superiors?
He made a huge mistake letting Zero go, in the name of catching C.C., and probably would have had a lot of trouble with the Britannians afterwards. But Lelouch gives him a way out--he offers him a safe haven with the Black Knights, and on top of that pretends to save his life and feigns interest in a real brotherly relationship. Rollo may be conflicted but he obviously has an interest in being Lelouch's brother, and from his perspective joining Lelouch may be the best move available to him at this point.
So I don't think Lelouch's "sweet talk" is what brought him on board; Lelouch maneuvered him into a position where his own self-interest dictates switching sides. I am expecting an epic disaster for Lelouch though, using such an unstable kid without repercussions is probably impossible.
While Rolo is not responsible for Nunnaly's disappearance, he's involved in her cover-up. So it's not surprising that Lelouch has no sympathy for him.
I do wonder if Rolo will be suspicious or hesitant the minute Lelouch asks him to find Nunnaly.
Seems to me Rollo will become the Mao of this season
Ugh...will the DN comparisons never end...
Well I have to admit I am fearing for Lelouch at this point, I really don't want him to go off the deep end permanently but then again I can't say I feel sorry for Rolo.
Ok maybe a little. Damnit alright I feel sorry for him but not to much. I can't really ever to bring myself to hate characters in this series or any for that matter. Except Death Note, I couldn't like anyone in that series. Well anyone with a major role that is, with the exception of Sochirio. The only character I hate from this series is Nina really.
At any rate I am excited to see next weeks episode since Suzaku is coming along with Zino and Anya. Speaking of which, I feel the same as you Garten in the regard that I will be sad to see Zino and Anya go.
Oh and does the guy Lelouch geassed at the end of the episode (the red haired guy) look like someone from another series to anybody? I feel like I have seen him before but can't place him.
http://www.designchronicle.com/memento/images/codegeassR2/04/codegeassR205pre2LG.jpg (what anime does that go with?)
Oh and fart jokes Garten? Where is the originality?!
Oh and does the guy Lelouch geassed at the end of the episode (the red haired guy) look like someone from another series to anybody? I feel like I have seen him before but can't place him.
IIRC, he's actually Darlton's son (the guy who got killed after Lelouch used him to stab Cornelia's frame back in S1).
Oh and fart jokes Garten? Where is the originality?!
Gomen! Originality fell asleep that night (and so was I) and people usually complain if I don't put the rollover text right away.
"IIRC, he's actually Darlton's son (the guy who got killed after Lelouch used him to stab Cornelia's frame back in S1)."
I knew that much I was just wondering if he looked someone else from another series. Oh and what kind of rifle did Kallen have at the start of the episode? For a second I thought it was SAW but maybe not...
P.S.
Are you going to start reviewing RD anytime soon?
Even if Lelouch sees Rolo as an enemy, it's clear that he knows that Rolo isn't inherently a bad person or against him (otherwise I don't think he would have believed he could convert Rolo so easily). Lelouch is quite aware of Rolo's naivety, and if anything his anger towards him is just because he didn't want anyone to touch Nunnally's place, even if it was a fault of his blind obedience and immaturity. That Lelouch claimed that he would use Rolo and then throw him away can't be justified. I mean, even if you say that he's against all Britannians, then why should he set a double standard for his classmates? It's one thing to use the kid, but he should at least have some decency in doing so
Because from Lelouch's stand point Rolo killed people....well ALOT of people and that goes with his "Those who are shot should prepared to be shot." At any rate that sounds like the rational he would be telling himself...then again I have a feeling it will backfire on him so we shall see.
When the whole episode started w/ the big hint towards a "Miracle" will have to happen, i was hoping Lelouch would somehow convince Rolo to geass and save the POWs. Done... a miracle. >_>; kinda stupid w/ the same kind of plan from last season, but don't fix what isn't broken i guess.
Despite the hate Lelouch has for Rolo for taking Nunnaly's place, you would think it would be better for actually taking care or taking him in as a brother would be nicer then just venomously hating him behind his back, and wanting to use him... because honestly Lelouch should realize he doesn't need more enemies but more allies, and this was a potential real loyal "brother that would save you w/ his really unique power" kind of guy. Dunno, you know... just a thought and all.

Sure you can say this now since you're not Lelouch, but imagine yourself in his shoes, losing his sister, hatred for the brittannian empire, being lied to and having your memories erased. Would you still be able to calmly forgive and forget that rollo was originally meant to kill you and that he replaced your precious sister?
We the anime fans are viewing events from the outside, we haven't suffered or faced what he has.
>>Anonymous
True, I couldn't even begin to fathom the loss of a sister and being betrayed by your own country. But at the same time, can't he see Rollo as a misguided child too, or does Rollo also must pay in blood? Too late for apologies? For rollo, it started simply as a mission. Not revenge or hate.
too think that both Lelouch and Suzaku are in the wrong. Lelouch was really stupid when
Suzaku ask him why he kill Euphie . Lulu answer that she is a evil woman yet you still work for her .which is a lie and the worst thing is Suzaku knows about gease so he figures out that a lie. Then Lulu also say Euphie death is in the past and say he going to rule the world instead of telling him that Euphie death is a accident.
So Suzaku already asked Lulu and he acted like a fool. however Suzaku wasnt a good friend to Lulu either even when lulu save his life so many times. However i like both of them and hope in the end they will become allies at the end. Also i think Rollo is very cute and i hope he becomes close to Lulu.
