What a surprisingly pleasant episode this one turns out to be. I always like it when a series goes through a character development, showing what this character would be like if the circumstance is changed a little bit. Interestingly enough, the more they know each other, the less hostile they tend to be. I guess it's a lot harder to shoot someone when that someone happens to be someone that you actually know very well. There are also several surprising revelation which makes me wonder about the murder of Marianne, Lelouch's mother. At this point, it seems the main suspect would be either Schneizel or the Emperor himself. It would be ironic if all of these times Lelouch was blaming his siblings only to find that it's just his father was responsible.
Continuing from last week's episode, this one opens with Suzaku waking up in a beach murmuring "Lancelot" and then "Zero" but he can't remember anything that happened before this. After climbing into the nearby cliff, he realises that this is a different island. At the same time, Zero concludes that based on the vegetation and the atmosphere, he's no longer in Shikinejima. While on his way investigating the island, Suzaku stumbles upon Karen, who's taking a naked bath at a nearby lagoon. When Karen hears Suzaku greeting her, she quickly grabs her Black Knight's uniform, alerting him to the fact that she's a member of that faction. Karen then charges at Suzaku nekkid, trying to stab the guy with a knife. Unfortunately for her, Suzaku is faster and before she realises it, he already pins her down on the ground. Suzaku immediately calls her Kallen Stadtfeld but she retorts by saying that her name is Kouzuki Karen because she's Japanese.
She also confirms that she's a member of the Black Knights and has no need to conceal this fact right now. Upon hearing this Suzaku tells "Kouzuki Karen" that she's detained and charges her with treason against Britannia. At the same time Lelouch is in a difficult predicament because he can't contact Ougi and the others and he can't pretend to be ordinary person and asks Britannian Army to help him either. Zero's train of thought comes to a halt when he suddenly notices Euphemia observing him from belong the cliff. Back to Suzaku/Karen, Suzaku finds out that Karen doesn't know what happened either and that she was already in the island when she regains her consicousness. Karen is not impressed by Suzaku's easy going nature and reminds him that he's also stranded here. If her colleagues are around, she thinks he will be the one who becomes prisoner of war. When Suzaku asks her if Zero will save her, she is positive about this.
After finding out about this, Suzaku asks Karen if she can tell him Zero's true identity. Instead of answering his question, Karen tells Suzaku to figure it out himself, prompting him to guess that she doesn't know it either. Because of this, he asks Karen why she follows Zero but she tells him to think about it himself. At the same time, Zero points his gun at Euphemia but much to his shock, Euphemia guesses that it's Lelouch behind the mask. She promises not to tell anyone and therefore before he shoots her, she wants him to at least....Upon hearing this Zero lowers his weapon and takes off his mask to show that she's right. Euphemia cries upon seeing his face. Back in Shikinejima, the Britannian army are busy looking for Euphemia. The supervisor is especially worried if this incident is heard by Cornelia. Meanwhile, Lloyd is now aboard Avalon, admiring the floating warship while Schneizel praises Lloyd and Cecil's work.
He tells them that everyone is interested in everything that they make. Speaking of interested, Schneizel admits that he's always wanted to meet Cecile. A nervous Cecile ends up referring Schneizel on first name basis, earning the ire of General Bartley for being impolite to the Prince. This shocked Cecile to the point that she falls off from the platform where she was standing. Schneizel, however, is not too concerned with formality and instead helps Cecile to stand up. Lloyd can't help himself from making fun of Bartley's loyalty but Bartley explains that Schneizel saved his life. Schneizel asks Bartley not to think about it and besides, he will depend on Barley next time. If anyone has to thank, Schneizel feels that he's the one who should thank Bartley. Lloyd then tells Cecile that he has minor business with Schneizel and will go to look for Suzaku. This causes Cecile to realise that Schneizel was the one who ordered yesterday's attack.
Schneizel admits that he was the one who attacked with Hadron missiles. His excuse is that he couldn't forget his priority at a time like that. Back then he also thought that there is a likelihood that Suzaku might survived due to the irregularity of the situation so he took a gamble on it. Cecile apologises for being rude but Schneizel also apologises for not being able to protect his subordinate. Meanwhile, Lelouch asks Euphemia since when she realised that Zero is actually him. Euphemia informs him that she's aware of this since the hotel highjack. Upon hearing this, Lelouch realises that he involuntarily said too much back then. When Lelouch asks Euphemia why she never informed Cornelia about this, Euphemia tells him it's because she doesn't want her sister to be sad. She then changes the conversation by asking Lelouch about Nanaly's condition. Lelouch admits that they're still living together but her body is still not well.
After finding out about this, Euphemia realises that Lelouch must really hate them. Instead of confirming this, Lelouch asks Euphemia if she knows anything about his mother's murder. Unfortunately Euphemia doesn't know anything but she believes Cornelia has been doing a lot of investigation because Cornelia admires Lelouch's mother, Marianne. In return, Euphemia wants Lelouch to tell her if he's Zero but Lelouch tells her that right now he's just Lelouch, the Lelouch that Euphemia knows. Euphemia cries after Lelouch calls her "Euphie" and since she's hungry, they go to the forest to set animal trap. In other part of the island, Suzaku manages to capture fish easily. Karen is surprised to see Suzaku being good at this. Suzaku offers to undo her restraint if she co-operates with him in finding food. Karen, however, refuses reconcile with him, prompting Suzaku to call her stubborn and completely different from her personality at school.
Inside the forest, Lelouch is getting tired due to all of the digging that he's done. When Euphemia offers to help, he refuses since she's supposed to be a Princess. Because of this Euphemia decides to look for fruits. Lelouch agrees on the condition that she is being careful. Unknown to Lelouch, Euphemia simply wants to get away from the place because she could barely contain her giggle. Inside the Black Knight's submarine, Toudou points out the danger of staying at a sea when Britannian army are in full search mode. Diethard disagrees and want to look for Zero. His idea is rebuffed by Toudou because they can't even send search parties. Plus, the only reason they can hide at the moment is because of Laksharta. If they take one wrong step, Toudou believes it would mean the end of the faction. Diethard disagrees again, pointing out that there won't be any faction without Zero. In order to end their fight, C.C tells them that Zero is still alive.
Her interference, however, causes her to be in conflict with Tamaki, who asks her if she's a prophet. He then reminds her that he told her to practice driving Knightmare before calling her an idiot. A pissed off C.C tells Tamaki that this is the first time she meets someone who speaks to her that way. In response he asks her why she acts snotty when she's just Zero's lover. In retaliation, C.C calls Tamaki a lower-ranked man. Ougi decides to break them up by saying that they will temporarily stay here at the bottom of the ocean. Later on, a pissed off C.C converses with an unseen person, bitching about how she had to converse with boring men due to the person's prank. Back in the island, Lelouch is embarrassed because he failed to catch any animals so he ends up eating fruits that Euphie picked up. Having said that, she believes that Lelouch would be able to do it tomorrow. Elsewhere in the island, Karen is stuffed after eating too many fish.
Upon seeing Karen's reaction, Suzaku asks her if this is he real personality. Karen confirms this and asks Suzaku if she has any complaints. Suzaku denies this and claims that her real personality is more lively and charming than her school's personality. Karen blushes upon hearing this but Suzaku has to ruin the mood by asking Karen to abandon the Black Knights. He thinks it's not too late now and it'd be unfortunate if Karen is caught as terrorist. In response Karen reveals that she already fought against Suzaku in Knightmare frame. Suzaku finally realises that Karen is the pilot of Guren Nishiki. Because of this, he tells her that there is no future in her ways. An angry Karen responds by saying that Suzaku's future is that the dog of ruling establishment whose only purpose is to live. She then scoffs at his 'Honorary Britannian' and 'The Knight of the 3rd Princess' title, thinking that it insults the name of Kururugi Genbu.
Karen declares that she's different and intends on changing the world because otherwise her brother can't rest in peace. This is why she fights without caring about the method that she choses to win. In response Suzaku reveals that he killed his father. Back in Lelouch/Euphemia camp, the two gaze at the star while Euphemia remarks how the star does not change just like back then. A flashback shows Euphemia, Lelouch, and Nanaly starring at the night sky. She thinks if they had stayed the way they were, they would have been better off. Because of this, she wonders if they can ever go back to those days. Lelouch surprisingly agrees with this, wondering how good it would have been if they can return to that time. Back in Suzaku/Karen camp, Suzaku tells Karen that Zero and his father are similar. He believes these two think the world revolves around them and therefore they don't have problem when it comes to shedding many people's blood.
Karen thinks that's a weak excuse to accept the current peace. And besides she thinks there's something more important than a person's life. In response, Suzaku tells her that results obtained through the wrong way won't leave anything. He thinks it's futile and leads to nowhere. A frustrated Karen lays her head on the ground and asks Suzaku to tell her the meaning of her brother living days. She also wants to know who decided what is 'wrong' 'and 'right'? Later on that night, Suzaku admits that the struggle to find the meaning of life is ugly. In the process, he notices that there's a light coming on the other side of the island. Meanwhile, Schneizel theorises that if Suzaku is still alive, he's probably drifted to Kaminejima island. Upon hearing this, Bartley promises to take search party tomorrow morning. The next morning, Suzaku/Karen and Lelouch/Euphemia decide to head towards the other side of the island due to the light that they saw last night.

At the same time, Schneizel, Lloyd, and Bartley are inspecting an archeological dig inside a cavern. Lloyd is not impressed about this since Archeology is not his favourite. Schneizel reveals that his father has obsession with this kind of thing. Bartley confirms this and tells them that the same monolith was found in several places in the world but they have been taken under the Emperor's control except this one that Bartley discovered. He guesses that this is invasion plan for each country. Upon hearing this Lloyd wonders if they're going to use Gawain to analyse the data. Schneizel confirms that this is the reason why they called him to come here. At the same time, Euphemia asks Lelouch if their time together will end once the search party finds them. Lelouch thinks it can't be helped besides he's a useless knight who can't even find food for her. This brings him to the topic of Euphemia's real knight, Suzaku. He wonders why she chose an honorary Britannian.
Before Euphemia can answer the question, Suzaku and Karen already make their appearance. Thankfully Zero already puts back his mask back. After a minor struggle, Suzaku manages to get Euphemia. Before Zero and Suzaku can struggle again, however, the ground beneath them lights up, revealing a large Geass sign. The four of them immediately transported into the underground dig. Seeing that they are surrounded, Zero makes the initiative to use Gawain to get himself and Karen out. Thanks to its cannon and flying ability, they manage to get out safely. In the aftermath, Suzaku gets arrested for military violation. As it turns out, back then Zero used his Geass on Suzaku so Suzaku will save all of them. Because of this, Suzaku can be heard saying that he must live. This is a damning piece of evidence that proves he disobeyed orders. Meanwhile, Cornelia finds out that Kyuushuu is under attack. At first she thinks it's the Chinese federation but as it turns out, the boat has Japanese flags on them.
Impression:
That was quite interesting in terms of character development. To begin with, Lelouch seems to be quite nice when it comes to Euphemia. He could have easily killed her but he chose not to. Similarly, Euphemia clearly cares a lot for Lelouch to the point that she cries upon seeing him. I actually feel sorry for her. She's trapped between a rock and a hard place. She knows Lelouch is Zero and wants to kill her sister/brother but she doesn't want Lelouch to die either. As a side note, I kind of enjoyed seeing her giggling after Lelouch's failed attempt at setting up a trap. Moving on to the other siblings, Euphemia's claim that Cornelia has been doing investigation regarding Marianne's murder puzzles me. Of course, Cornelia could have lied to Euphemia but judging from the scene from several episodes ago, Cornelia admiring Marianne might just be the truth after all. But if this is true, then who could possibly killed Lelouch's mother?
My next suspect is Schneizel. Seeing how cold he was last week made me sure that he was probably the killer. However, the writers completely change his personality in this one. Again, he probably just pretend to be nice to others here but as a Prince, I don't see why he should go out of his way to do this. Schneizel didn't have to tell Bartley that he's the one who has to thank Bartley. He also didn't have to say that he regret not being able to protect his subordinate (Suzaku). Maybe he'll show his psychotic personality somewhere down the line but for now, he seems to be a rather decent person. This leaves me with the Emperor as the killer but I really have no idea why he would do this himself. I think it is strange that he seems to have activities separate from his own children. At times it feels as if that he's hiding something from them.
What happened to the site? I couldn't get in for the last 30 or so minutes?
A most excellent episode for character development, albeit at a "breakneck pace". Nice final twist at the end too.
What happened to the site? I couldn't get in for the last 30 or so minutes?
I'm sorry. Dreamhost (NightmareHost) strikes again. They say they have problem with their file storage server which cause inflated load. If it's not for the fact that I hate moving servers, I would have moved the site already. I think the problem has been resolved though so I hope things start to function again.
Wow this looks to be a great episode.And next episode ..... Nina finally gets to molest er meet Euphemia. Is this supposed to be ANOTHER review episode fitted into a regular one? Also what kind of frame is a Gawain? And if it is ancient can it match up with Lancelot, the Guren, etc. I also heard supposadly Lelouch gets a frame called Cromwell.
@Everyman:
The rumor of Lelouch's mech being named Cromwell was disproved with the introduction of the Gawain, espcially in the spoilers you've been reading. Additionally nothing ever said that it was an ancient frame; it's actually in the same generation as the Lancelot if you want to talk about how new it is. Also I don't think there was any review at all in the episode, although please correct me if I'm wrong.
Oooh I hope he laughed while he stole it.
And good lord that is one big Knightmare. A normal knightmare is what, six or seven times larger than the average person, and the Gawain is like a massive one hundred times the size of a normal person. The creators weren't kidding when they said this thing was larger than any Knightmare built before it.
I want to know how Lulu will get out of his current predicament. Euphemia is a nice girl but I think she'll tell her sister that Lulu is Zero.
This seems so reminscient of the Athrun and Cagalli scene in GS when they too are stranded on the island.
It's also a little bit weird that everyone seems to know everyone else's identity. I'm just waiting for something to blow up.
@LunaticChaos:
He laughs, but its not quite as inspiring as the laugh at the end of ep 17. But yeah, the Gawain is a friggin' behemoth compared to other Knightmares.
@Katakui:
@Emi:
Yes, because explosions are the best part of this show. Especially where they're pink. :D
As long as Lelouch doesn't end up with Euphemia, I'll be fine with it. Otherwise..... *shudders*
Emi which couple euphie/lulu or suzaku/karen?? personally i would not mind more euphie/lulu ahhh incest all the way bwahahahaha i really think that euphie will tell cornelia who zero really is the question would be how she would react to the news also about schneizel thou i have not seen the raw that guy just gives me the evil vibes suzaku finally knows karen is part of the black knights i wonder what he next move would be will he keep quite or snitch on karen if he does report karen the hate suzaku club would just grow even more :p
naw, she wont tell her sister about zero's identity. it seems they like each other (from a family perspective ok?)
emi> better than that is what is going to come from that letter that erm... forgot her name found after being geassed heheh. will she turn out to be a total different person? or just fall in a strange way for lulu just like karen?
btw, good to know that lulu got a nice mecha ^^
that one he had was just crap =_=
just wondering HOW he'll use it. if its bigger than a normal knightmare and the normal knightmares are already the size of a cargo truck... not much place to hide huh?
obs: pretty dumb the enemy huh? not having a tracking device and stuff.
lots of fanservice too eheheh.

http://www.designchronicle.com/memento/images/codegeass/19/codegeass1911LG.jpg
trap? (holding hands detail) i also agree that this reminds of gundam -_-
http://www.designchronicle.com/memento/images/codegeass/19/codegeass1921LG.jpg
huh? who's the kiddo? maybe the emperor when he was young?
on another past ep he said something about an elevator or something. also in the opening we can see something like 2 spheres closer one another. aiming for the geass land? hehe
and well. fast paced ep. seems like next ep will keep that up, so that we can end this season with a good cliffhanger or something like that.
i didn't expect seeing nina/euphie pairng so soon
Goody-two-shows Suzaku not report Karen? Of course he would, it's not a matter of if he would, it's a matter of who he would tell because I don't think he'd tell someone like Schneizel who just reeks of evil vibes.
As for Euphemia snitching...I'm assuming Lelouch hasn't geassed her so this is completely up in the air. On one hand I see her telling Cornelia or Schneizel, on the other I don't see it happening considering what kind of people they are and apparently the next few episodes aren't supposed to be pleasant for her.
@Onizuka
Why support just those?
KarenxLelouchxC.C. all the way! ^_^
Didn't Lelouch ask Euphemina why she hadn't told Cornelia about him being Zero?
And didn't Euphemina answer "It's not like she's gonna believe me"?
So the Gawain is revealed, and I have a feeling that Lelouch is going to have a lot of fun with that particular Knightmare.
Since Gawain can fly, Lancelot has to fly too, but that red jetpack thing looks so mismatched, I wonder if they'll give the Lancelot a matching paintjob after the Gawain takes the Lancelot apart. Who wants to bet that eventually there'll be massive mecha battle between Lancelot and Gawain at some point?
And it looks like Nina gets her audience with the princess, maybe now we can get her sad little obsession out of the way and back to the important people.
Okay, I'm just wondering... How many kids does the emperor have?!
The emperor has 20 kids I think, at least that's what I've heard. We've only seen the important ones though, the ones who actually have a chance at the throne.
The Lancelot being beaten by Gawain? Unlikely, the Gawain has the feeling of being a ballistic specialist and with Lelouch piloting the thing Suzaku still has the advantage. Lancelot is a close range specialist suit so all Suzaku has to do is get close to the Gawain.
As for a big mech battle, well duh, that's been guaranteed since the Gawain was announced.
oh yeah, just dont forget the image tags on this one garten hehe
the caps looks sooo twistable this time *evil laugh*
/me looking forward ^^y
wow this episode was so perfect
i don't even think euphie already know zero is lulu "shocked"
funny to see kallen and suzaku part
wouldn't the Gawain be hovering in the air all the time since now Lelouch can watch the battles from the sky now, and getting close to Gawain with the Lancelot would be kinda hard while in the air...
Fortman, she answered that she didn't tell Cornelia, because it would just make her sad.
@Blah
The Lancelot is getting the jetpack expansion you know.
That and I doubt Lelouch will sit out battles, he's got a pair of super cannons on his shoulders know, I doubt he'll resist the temptation to use them.
It is about damn time that the show got it together. The last 3 weeks (excluding episode 17.5) have been on a pace that suits the series. It definitely raised my interest to continue watching the series as soon as it airs. Although there are some questions that are still not answered, it slowly gives hints that it will be answered in the very near future.
This is what Code Geass should have been. It started off great and then it lost track mid-way. Do you know how I know the last 3 episodes have been a success? Take a look at episode 17 and 18 postings in this web site. It exploded if you compare it to the previous episodes. Regardless if the same people are responding over and over, it still shows that people are being active about this show, which is something you don't see as often.
I'm not going to get into the whole character development thing because that could take forever. That being said, I want to point out that it is really hard to evaluate or even place judgement on animes produced by Sunrise. Numerous Gundam series and Code Geass proves it. I guess I can't really say anything about the show overall until the first season finishes since I am technically flip-flopping right now.
Furthermore, I think Sunrise learned its mistake with the whole Villetta controversy. Notice how they didn't apply it with Karen. It could have been easily done but they decided to stray away from it.
6 episodes remain for the first season. Will it finish strong by leaving a cliffhanger or will it be a bust by returning to its previous inconsistent pace?
Only time will tell....To be exact, at April 12th, we will find out...unless there is another recap episode.
just finished watching the raw
@LunaticChaos
why not a compromise in where everyone wins Lulu/Harem >:) except for violeta cause she already has ougi and of course nina there must be a minimum bust requirement and she already has table kun and also lulu was laughing when he was stealing gawain :D
Wait a minute! I heard that Guwain is 2 man pilot. Does anyone have an information to confirm? I heard it from the BBS I was usually visit.
Lulouch.... Euphemia.....
NooooooOOOooO!
Why not Karen TT^TT
Interesting episode, I wonder what happened to the Guran frame.
Japanese invading Kyuushu? Were there any surviving Japanese forces stationed outside Japan?
@Everyman
Now that I think about it, I might be making too many assumptions about the info I've been given, I messed Cromwell and Gawain up. Because long time ago someone said that there's a rumour about L-8 Cromwell being Lulu's new mech, and since it was a rumour at that time, I didn't really pay attention to it. But then some days later that pereson says a frame like Cromwell does exsist, and after that info about Lulu's 'new mech' started coming out so I mistakenly took Lulu's new mech as Cromwell even though they all used 'new mech' instead of Cromwell for it. So either - Cromwell was pre-Gawain, before the stuff that happened to Sakuya(who was pre-Kaguya) happened to it and they changed the name. Or, Cromwell is a totally different mech.
Gawain, along with Lancelot, seems to be the only two 7th generation Frames
@BirdieSaMa
ehh?! i thought the lancelot is the 7th generation while the gawain is the 8th? can some help answer this, please! ^^ thanks.
@Onizuka
Well we can't have Euphemia or Cornelia in that harem, Suzaku already has Euphemia in his mini one and Cornelia makes Lelouch shudder, and probably everybody else too (besides obvious moral reasons).
@redberrie
Gawain is supposed to be a 7th generation frame as well, at least according to all released information. Though I suppose it would be more correct to call it a 7.5 generation frame, it probably used the battle information obtained from the Lancelot in it's constuction.
http://www.designchronicle.com/memento/images/codegeass/19/codegeass1915LG.jpg
At this moment what I really want to know is how this image ties in with C.C. and the power of 'Geass'.
Tying in with Arthurian legends, I am now thinking that C.C. may be the equivilant of The Lady of the Lake. And the design of Gawain seems more like an Egyptian statuatte then of European design. But the colors do seem to be suited for the leader of the Black Knights.
Oh and on a side note, wondering if there will be something called Caliburn and Excalibur in the future? perhaps new knightmare frames? There's already 2 frames called Lancelot and Gawain, and a floating fortress called Avalon so its reasonable to think something called Excalibur will show up in a future episode.
"Well we can't have Euphemia or Cornelia in that harem, Suzaku already has Euphemia in his mini one and Cornelia makes Lelouch shudder, and probably everybody else too (besides obvious moral reasons)."
...Oddly enough, no one seems to be considering the more obvious, base, problems with Euphie or Cornelia in the harem.
Unless the people of Brittania have unusually perfect genes, there're little problems that tend to arise from inbreeding.
The preview has some interesting scenes like the 2 old guys and the black Knightmare Frames that are attacking Lancelot look to be from the Chinese Federation. It definitely looks like they get involved. In ep16, C.C. apologizes about some C.F. issue and maybe they have their own agenda for attacking Britannia and taking over Japan themselves. If it turns into an all-out war, I know that Lelouch would side w/ the C.F. to get a chance at the Emperor, but would Ougi? He's slowly becoming a better leader and I can see him going against Zero in the future. Now I wonder what Karen would do?
@Blue
Well there is that problem too, but I still say the ick factor plays a bigger part in the reason why it wouldn't work.
Though there would be less problems genetically speaking seeing as how they're only related through the Emperor.
I still say just no considering how icky the thought is.
@jounin
I see Lelouch using the conflict between the C.F. and Britannia to defeat them both at the same time. Constantly playing them against each other.
@Defade and Random Passerby. About the Gawain frame I was reading the first version of the review. It made it sound like they had found it in the dig rather then the Gawain being used for the dig. So this was before it was clarafied.Anyhow
about the Cromwell I think I heard it mentioned but I'm only going by what I heard. And also about the review ep thing that's my fault. I meant to say is next weeks episode going to be review and a regular mix. Since the preview showcases previous ep clips with new material
Im starting to think that the Emperor's only goal is to get his hands on all those monoliths. It seems they hold some kind of power. All of his invasions maybe were only for those and the talk about people being not the same might just be an excuse to conquer.
i understand that there are korean subs of this that are faster than the english subs - anyone know where i might get access to these? thanks.
I was on the wikipedia page for Code Geass earlier and found something interesting.
It somehow implied that Nuclear power doesn't yet exist in the timeline of Code Geass Earth, yet seemingly they have powerful power sources and more environmental friendly too ^^.
@Novan
I think they use hydrogen based engines based on the pictures of the Lancelot starting up, what with the water filled enclosed space. Theoretically speaking Hydrogen engines could be just as efficient as gasoline engines if not more so and are less harmful to the environment, and it is a renewable resource. But the production of the actual fuel would be expensive.
Yeah you may be right LunaticChaos, however that thing that made it funny was they didn't have nuclear power because the US never came to exist, so are they implying that the world is a 'better' place without the US and that England would turn into the Brittainia Empire, and a Holy empire no less.
*Looking at Nina's last name while smirking* Einstein...hmmm why's that ring a bell when we're talking about nukes....
Oh right it was Einstein who came up with the fundamental theories behind what makes the nuke work...oh he was German too...and Jewish...during the 1930s-1940s...
Okay I'll stop that. Basically Einstein was the one who is responsible for the Nuclear Warhead, though he didn't officially work on the project to develop it. Einstein contacted Roosevelt out of fear that the Nazis would develop the bomb first. In Code Geass Germany would have already fallen to Britannia and any chance of a Nazi party forming would have been crushed under the rule of the Britannian Emperor. Which means there was never any reason for someone like Einstein to point out the possibility for nuclear fission being applied to warfare or used at all. I think the point being made is that with no Nazi party the world ended up being a better place because Nuclear weapons were never developed. Great Britain's downfall was due in part to losing it's hold in the Americas. Slowly it started losing more and more of it's empire degenerating into what it is today. If Britain had kept it's hold in the Americas that would mead it would slowly gain vast amounts of resources and become the Britannian Empire in Code Geass.
Nina is confirmed to be studying Nuclear Fission, likely that's going to play a big part in the second season, or maybe even the end of the first season.
Who'll get the fruits of that labor?
If Euphemia lasts that long, Euphemia, if she doesn't, whoever didn't kill her. If Lelouch is the one who kills Euphemia (doubtful given this episode) then he's going to gain that research and gain a huge military advantage through it. If he does kill Euphemia then whoever is leading the fight against the Black Knights is going to get it.
....Well I feel silly, I messed up that last paragraph
If Euphemia lasts that long, Euphemia, if she doesn't, whoever didn't kill her. If Lelouch is the one who kills Euphemia (doubtful given this episode) then whoever is leading the fight against the Black Knights is going to get it. If he isn't the one who kills her then he's going to gain that research and gain a huge military advantage through it.
"I just remembered I don't like girls."
Hahahaha.
huh?! i still dont get what you're trying to say, LunaticChaos!! the euphie thingy~
heys! ive just watched the raw for this!! ahh! interesting, definately very high action-packed. ^^
however, i cant help think that suzaku seems to know something bout the geass sign [when it lighted up, he's eyes turned wide + unresponsive] or maybe he remembers seeing that sign coming out from zero's left eye?!
I really doubt that Lelouch would harm Euhpie, he isn't the type to commit cold blooded murder without a good reason.
Surprising that those soldiers would aim their weapons so easily at Zero when Euphiemia is standing just about 10 ft away from him, do they really think their aim is that good with automatic weapons when they couldn't hit Kallen afterwards.
Saw the Raw, still waiting for the subs. Hmm in comparison with Lancelot's flying wing system and the Gawain's, which knightmare seems to be more advanced.
However the Gawain is larger and more bulky so its agility is cut back compared to the Lancelot frame. But still I am glad that now the OBK has 2 advanced frames (Guren and Gawain) and 5 semi-advanced frames (Gekkas). While the Brittiania army has only 1 Lancelot frame and the Avalon flying fortress (which seems to possess energy shields). And we still don't know to whom the two black frames in the Next Episode preview belongs to. Could they be frames developed by the C.F. or other experimental frames developed by/for the Kyoto group.
There's a really nice theory about the Emperor being behind Marianne's death over on LJ: http://community.livejournal.com/code_geass/133075.html
@redberrie
Mostly speculation, I'm referring to Nina and whose side she'll eventually pick. I personally think that regardless of what Lelouch intends to happen, the student council members are gonna get involved somehow. And personally, I think Euphemia won't last much longer so I think the side Nina is going to pick is whoever didn't kill Euphemia. Given, like Novan said, that Lelouch really isn't the cold blooded type I find it likely Schneizel would kill her if she got in his way or did something he didn't agree with. Then again Lelouch is supposed to go through three phases of turning "evil" and I think killing Euphemia would act as the perfect 1st stage towards going evil.
As for the Suzaku thing, I think he might have finally put two and two together, at least somewhat, and realizes that Zero is at the very least someone he knows well. I think he might have realized that Zero is Lelouch myself, he's seen C.C. protecting Zero, he knows C.C. was with Lelouch, Lelouch was rather close-lipped about the incident, Zero constantly calls him stupid/inflexible like Lelouch did when they were children, and Zero doesn't want to kill Suzaku. I know he's not the brightest crayon in the box but he'd have to be downright retarded if he hasn't figured out that he at least know's Zero.
@Mysterioux
They're nameless grunts, them being intelligent? Perish the thought. Though seriously all they'd have to do is aim to the right in that situation and the spread wouldn't touch Euphemia.
@Novan
in terms of firepower and speed, the Gawain probably has the Lancelot beat easily. Once those cannons get fixed it'd be the equivalent of a bomb strike. I say the Gawain has it on speed because it's a lot bigger and can hold more equipment and thus a bigger more powerful engine. I could be wrong of course.
However in terms of agility and combat capability the Lancelot has the Gawain beat easily. The Lancelot is a unit that specializes in close-range combat and has multiple weapons designed for that purpose.
Overall neither of them is the superior frame, in fact they were probably meant to go together on the battlefield, the Lancelot as the main combatant and the Gawain as the support unit. Though the Guren easily replaces the Lancelot in this combo because the capabilities are about equal.
As for the Black Frames in the next episode, I think those are from the invading Japanese forces that came from the the Chinese Federation, probably developed by China given we see someone who doesn't look like how they've been drawing the Japanese or Britannians and the frames look nothing like how Kyoto or Britannia designs their frames.
@Hikki
Personally I think we've all assumed that the Emperor was behind it since episode 6 with his speech. Though Schneizel could have been in on it too, despite how charming and nice the guy is, or seems, he puts off major evil vibes. Maybe the guy is emotionally stunted and really has no emotional issues with killing someone he's close to if he's asked to plan it out or told to plan it out by the Emperor.
Personally I am starting to feel that the sibblings don't really have that much of a envy/jealously/hatred thing between them. More and more I am starting to be 100% convinced its all the doing of the Emperor.
As for that kid who was shown when Lelouch and the others dropped into the excavation site I have 4 possibilities.
1> Emperor when he was younger
2> Another child of the emperor we haven't been made aware of yet
3> A clone of the emperor who is being groomed to be the true successor while the real children are being used as a test or training material for that clone. Possibly may have some sort of genetic experiments/abilities as those of C.C.'s race.
4> one of C.C.'s people, but sided with the Brittianians
Sry I just wanted to give some reasons why I feel that the sibblings don't really seem to be rivals.
1> Cornelia doesn't really berate Euphemia for selecting Suzaku as her Knight, in fact Cornelia even tells Euphemia that she needs to become stronger to change the system into the way she wants which is similar to Suzaku's ideals.
2> Schneizel gave support for Suzaku to become the knight of perhaps one of the most powerful Knightmare frames in existance.
3> Ok we know Clovis coldly ordered the deaths of many innocent Japanese people, however when it came to Lelouch and his family we see some proof that he never considered Lelouch, Nunally and Marianne to be enemies or a threat when they were younger.
4> supposedly at this moment (since it has not be confirmed), Cornelia admired Marianne. The reason is most likely because Marianne was supposedly the first pilot of the first ever Knightmare frame and was a Knight herself.
So my solution for Zero, Lelouch and Suzaku: Get rid of the Emperor and you will be half-way there in creating a better world. The Emperor is the main hindrence and a major obstacle.
@novan
I'd agree they really don't seem like rivals, at least the four recognized princes/princesses we've seen. We really can't say about the rest of them. I'd say Cornelia and Clovis agree with the Emperor's ideas though (at least to some degree), and Schneizel probably does as well. Although Lelouch has no reason to take out Euphemia, the other imperial princes/princesses seem like the type who would only carry on the Emperor's ideas so they would have to be taken out as well for Lelouch to open the way for his ideal world.
As for the creepy looking kid, I think he might be another Mao. Though I could be wrong because it's only alluded that he's using some form of Geass, we haven't seen him manifest the symbol yet. And the Geass thing on the platform I think was Lelouch's Geass reacting to some mechanism in the platform.
You know, I just realized something. This was the first episode since episode 1 that we've seen Lelouch perfectly relaxed. And it's the first episode where he's been completely honest with whoever he was dealing with. Not to mention it was the first episode where he seemed at least a little happy.
I think C.C.'s prediction that Geass would make him lonely has already started becoming true. That compounded with the fact that just being Zero would make someone incredibly lonely.
I bet that if everyone just got rid of the Emperor and then sat down and discuss the situation, it would probably solve a lot of conflicts. The sibblings could probably work things out peacefully if it wasn't for that old senile bas**rd. Cornelia seems to be more interested in pacifying rebellious factions (the violent ones, probably not the ones who use peaceful methods) or movements within the empire then with ruling. Schneizel is probably more interested with his experiments and research then with ruling the empire probably (from what is seen so far). Euhpemia doesn't seem to care much about it either other then for the purpose of improving the welfare of EVERYONE in the empire. Lelouch wants to overthrow the system, not take it over.
I wonder if the Emperor realized that none of his children are really interested in becomming his successor that he has to resort to scheming and causing conflicts. I'm worried that kid with the possible geass powers could be a possible heir that we haven't been made aware of yet, the only one with the real ambition for the throne.
Anyways these are just the vibes I am getting, my personal opinions, I could be well mistaken.
@LunaticChaos, you're right, its pretty rare nowadays to see Lelouch so calm and relaxed, he probably enjoyed the time he spent with Euphie (don't get any ideas you perverted readers LOL).
@Novan
I think you could very well be right about the kid, I'm thinking the kid could be th eventual enemy in the show. Because he's either standing right next to the emperor in that temple like place or he's standing right behind that Geass door.
But it's hard not to get perverted thoughts when Suzaku goes and "forgets" to zip Kallen up all the way.
Saw the eng subs for both 18 and 19, in 18 the part where the emperor and 1 of his men talk about a ladder, they seemed to have mentioned the name Lamparouge and 'let him challange us if he wants'. Was that a mis-translation of the japanese or is that what they were really saying in japanese.
Because if it were, it seems to imply that the Emperor now know that a member of the Lamparouge family is alive, and he is sure to know his late wife's maiden name.
Purposeful mistranslation on your-mom's part, he clearly says Schneizel. For the most part they have an accurate translation of the show however.
hey guys i just noticed something when i was re watching the 1st ep of the series...
I think leloucch made the contract of ragnorok with his dad...
So maybe his dad already knows hes zero and is probably keeping track of him with CC. Meaning that hes been pulling the strings all along. O noes i really hope he wont die in the end because of that.
Who will there be left for Karen...
(Deifinitley not Szuaku XP)
Karen and Lulu 4ever XD
Random comment: does anyone ever think of CC as the "Ryuk in deathnote"
@xiero
God no, the Emperor only commented that Ragnarok was beginning again, if he was fully aware of C.C. he would not have left her to Clovis who was dead set against the Emperor finding out about his experiments.
And again, God no. The only similarity between Ryuk and C.C. is that they are using the respective contracts to meet an end. C.C. has clearly taken a side in the conflict and has a vested interest to see Lelouch win so he can fullfill his contract with her, while Ryuk remains completely and utterly neutral.
Light is a meglomaniac serial killer with no problems about killing anybody in his way, he is clearly and without a doubt the Villain of the series. Albiet because of that he's certainly an interesting character.
Lelouch is a young boy who's a narcissist, thus is similar to Light in that respect, however he isn't motivated by Light's god complex, he's motivated by revenge and changing the world. He has clear moral issues with the amount of death and carnage he causes and although will willingly cause it, he does not like doing it.
And quite frankly, I really hope Lelouch doesn't go for Karen/Kallen, that's the easy love conquest, I hope he goes for the challenge with C.C. Though it won't happen either way unless the creators are lying that Lelouch won't get entangled in all that.
o thank god =D
@LunaticChaos I assumed that, went back and listened to that part over and over again carefully.
Anywayse on a side thought, the way the story is progressing, it doesn't seem likely that there maybe a second season.
I wonder what C.C.'s wish could be. I hope she isn't feeling the loneliness of immortality and desires 'eternal slumber'.
By the way, I just thought of something: Could all the 'telepathic' conversations C.C. had with an unknown person actually be not with the same person all the time. Maybe she was conversing with different people at different times. But the way she speaks and the words she uses, it sounds like she is talking to someone who is supervising her.
As for Kallen and Lelouch, unless the creators want them to be like his parents (Emperor and Marianne, who was a knight), I doubt they would be the planned pairing. Kallen is more like Zero's knight, not Lelouch. However perhaps the creators wanted a Wayne/Kyle-Batman/Catwoman kind of pairing except Lelouch already knows that Kallen is part of the OBK and pilots the Guren frame.
Novan:
Pretty sure it's been confirmed that Geass is getting a second season.
'Lelouch is a young boy who's a narcissist, thus is similar to Light in that respect, however he isn't motivated by Light's god complex, he's motivated by revenge and changing the world.' -LunaticChaos
i kind of just noticed that lelouch's very determined to execute his revenge, yet not at all keen as to why marianne was killed. i dont really think that the reason is or is that simple.. just because she was a not a real noble?!
but i think this time round, even if the person who killed marianne was someone very close to him.. he'll shoot that guy too. just like what he had done with poor clovis. cant help feeling that clovis died of a wasteful death. after all, he actually seems to like lelouch and family quite a lot.
@Novan
I'm actually kinda seeing the loneliness of immortality thing with C.C. it would fit in an ironic sort of way with her personality. And it would fit given that's basically the only wish Mao would not grant C.C. thus why C.C. left him. Sure the guy's insane, but he was devoted and would have been willing to do anything but that for C.C.
Personally I like Kallen, but I really hope she doesn't pair up with Lelouch, like I said it would be way too easy for him. Hell all he'd have to do at this point is reveal his complete identity.
@redberrie
What I think Lelouch is thinking on the revenge subject
KILL! = First priority
Information = Second Priority.
If Lelouch would kill Clovis just to cover his identity I think he'd kill other members of his family. Though Euphemia has the best chance of avoiding that fate (save Nunnally, be a cold day in biblical hell before he points a gun at her), but with that spoiler line for episode 23 anything can go.
LunaticChaos:
All things considered, I think Lelouch killed Clovis for more reasons than just to protect his identity. He could have hidden his face when he asked about who killed Marianne, or he could have Geass'ed Clovis into forgetting. (It wouldn't have worked, but he didn't even try.)
I'll take Lelouch at his word when he said that he just hates the Royal Family. (He makes an exception for Euphie, who is one of the biggest balls of fluff in the world, right up there with Nunnaly)
@Blue
I'll give you that, that he hates the Royal Family and all. But if it was more for revenge it was also to change the world. For Lelouch getting revenge is inseparable from changing the world.
Though past covering his identity and revenge desires, I think he wanted to send a message to the Emperor and the rest of the Royal Family which became stronger when they had a persona and a reason to attach to that message, "Abuse the weak like the Emperor wants and I will kill you."
Heh, I like that comparison. Though I think his reason for not wanting to kill her is more about association than anything, Euphemia is nothing like the Emperor so he doesn't see her as part of that family.
Yeah, i think the Emperor is one really bad guy. He reminds me of Adolf Hitler XD. Maybe he's responsible for Marianne's death because maybe he saw her supporting equality which is why he must have killed her, why he stripped off Lulu's status as a prince and why he didn't answer Lulu's question on why he didn't protect Marianne.
Anyway, maybe at the end of the series (don't know when it will end), maybe the Emperor will kill himself like Hitler.
His dreams of inequality will be ruined because, well, he didn't really conquered much of the world, right? I mean there's North Korea and ther Middle East countries like Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and others and other powerful countries asides from US, China and Japan. By the way, what the heck happened to the UN during that time?
@jin
In the Code Geass world there's only three powerful countries and the Emperor names the other two in his speech. Britannia has already conquered a middle eastern country, and quite frankly any nation that's not one of the big three is royally and utterly screwed in military and technological power. Code Geass is a world where war still dominates the globe. Chances are Britannia is made up of all of the Americas, Australia, Britain, Spain, France, maybe Germany, and most likely at least half of Africa. Why? Because the British Empire in the real world extended to most of those places in the real world, I left out India because they probably ended up forfeiting that to China.
I'm wondering when Lelouch geassed Suzaku to survive will that still have effect when he's in a life and death situation cause if it does it's gonna make Suzaku have a seed like geass mode...
@jin
Unfortunately even in real world UN is dominate by a few powerful countries, it is full of crap anyway.
here's my two cents...first of all, the UK empire did at some point in time have heavy influence over each of the abovementioned nations/regions that you mentioned, but I don't believe that they were all under the Brit control at all time. Furthermore, when Britain has that kinda power, Spain and France are up there in the race with UK as well, quite frankly, I don't think the French or the Spanish ever subjugated themselves to the British control. A point on UN as well, as Dave Chappelle puts it so well, UN should sanction him with "an army" but the very fact that they have no army indicates they should just "shut up" 'nuff said about that point, onto Geass, indeed, the question about the survive command is puzzling: it seems that Lelouch's geass power appears to last a long while (at least some months long as shown by the experiment he did early on in the show) so does that mean that we now have a Suzaku who is going to remain the same Suzaku as before as though the command is a one time deal, or are we going to have a Suzaku that is the old Suzaku minus the suicidal aspect of his personality. A note on Schneizal (spelling vary) he doesn't seem to be nice...I'd be more willing to bet on the facade theory rather than the nice guy theory...we have a guy that is shown to be absolutely vicious and has absolute power (both have the highest power demonstrated so far in Area 11, and capable enough to go head to head with the empire), why would a guy of his caliber not be evil in the conventional sense? Anyhow, I've said my piece
Very good summary of this exciting ep. That's wat makes me like to read your blog.
Hey, Garten, you're not going to put V.V.'s little appearance during this episode in the overview?
Speaking of V.V., doesn't anybody besides me think that C.C. and V.V. should be pronounced "see-see" and "vee-vee" instead of "see-two" and "vee-two"?
Well, okay, actually both ways of saying it sounds somewhat like a name, but the first way is cooler!
I completely forgot about it but I think I talked about her in the previous episode. Basically it was along the lines of "she's probably C.C's friend, the one C.C has been talking to all of these times". The problem is there's not much I know about her and I'm not about to take a peek at the spoiler yet.
I wish Suzaku would've been popped, but I guess it's better than not to do it.
