Eh? What the hell? My copy of this week's Code Geass uses COLORS as its opening theme again. Can anyone else check if you get the same thing? I wonder if Sunrise got a lot of bad feedback about the 3rd opening that they end up changing it back to the 2nd opening. But that's ridiculous considering they've paid a lot of money for it. So my second guess is that they made a mistake when making this episode and ended up attaching the second OP for the episode. Strangely enough, the ending theme is still Mozaic Kakera and the sponsor's music still uses Kaidoku Funou on the background. But never mind that. OMG, this episode is a shocker in all sort of aspects. I never thought the event to last week's episode will be resolve in this matter. It's unfortunate the ending seems to backpedal on everything that has happened. Having said that, there are some repercussions to this and this episode also proves that Zero has a conscience when it comes down to his friends.
The episode begins with Guren Nishiki vs. Lancelot battle. After attacking Lancelot, Guren Nishiki immediately retreats. Suzaku wants to follow the mecha but hears an order not to follow it. Meanwhile, Ougi gets a radio transmission from C.C who lets him know that Zero is safe and ordering a retreat. After giving out the instruction, C.C asks Lelouch if that's enough. She thinks it's unusual that he's so shaken to the point of unable to give instruction. When she wonders if it has anything to do with Cornelia, Lelouch denies this. He's worried about the fact that his gun has disappeared. He believes someone took it while he was unconscious. C.C suddenly realises that this means someone has seen Lelouch without his mask. Lelouch confirms this and thinks that there were 2 people. One was the one who got shot, referring to the blood on the ground and the other one was the shooter. Unknown to Lelouch, the shooter is none other than Shirley.
Shirley is now back in her dormitory, crying while attempting to write a letter addressed to Lelouch. When she crumples the letter in frustration, her roommate wakes up so Shirley quickly hides the gun underneath her uniform. The roommate immediately guesses that Shirley is writing a love letter addressed to Lelouch. The next day, Suzaku finds out that Nina wants to molest....I mean meet Euphemia. Millay explains that Euphemia saved Nina during the hotel highjacking. Upon hearing this, Rivalz claims that he too wants to see Euphemia because she's a Princess and he wants to get rich by marrying her. Nanaly immediately tells the guy that she thinks Euphemia won't meet anyone with such impure thoughts. Cut to a shot of a very shifty Nina, who clearly has impure thoughts. Their conversation then comes to a halt when the phone inside the room rings. Suzaku finds out that the caller is Lelouch, who wants to if there is anything different lately.
Suzaku tells Lelouch that there is: Lelouch is not around. In addition to this, Shirley also hasn't shown her face lately. Apparently she's also been skipping classes. Lelouch then asks Suzaku to tell Nanaly that he'll be coming home late. The calls comes to an abrupt end when Arthur jumps into Suzaku. After the phone call ends, C.C tells Lelouch that she thinks there wasn't anyone else apart from the army and the Black Knights. Lelouch, however, remembers that he saw Shirley there. C.C immediately refers Shirley as the girl who kissed with him. Back at the Britannia palace, Dalton tells that the recent incident as well as Narita's suggest that Zero is motivated by a grudge against the Britannia Royal Family instead of Britannia itself. This reminds Euphemia of her encounter with Zero back in the hotel. When a concerned Cornelia wants Euphemia to be careful, Guildeford suggests that Euphemia gets a full-time Knight to be her bodyguard.
Back in Ashford college, Shirley's classmate is now seen guarding the front door (after having been Geassed) while Lelouch and C.C are looking for his gun in Shirley's room. C.C claims that she can't find anything and the diary's entry ends on the 14th. Lelouch remembers that's the day when Shirley's father died. Instead of finding the gun, however, Lelouch finds pictures of himself in Shirley's drawer. Upon seeing them, C.C sarcastically comments that it's very sweet. Lelouch also finds a timetable which has Narita highlighted on it. Shirley is now seen standing in front of the Narita Monument wondering these things happened. All of a sudden, a man repeats the question as if he can read her mind. At the same time, Ougi wonders why the Japan Liberation Front ship exploded. Tamaki thinks it was self-destruct thing, Karen wonders if Ougi doubts Zero, and Diethard asks Ougi what he'd do if Zero was the one who caused the explosion.
Zero or Lelouch himself is now on a train with C.C. C.C wonders if Zero likes or hates Shirley but he doesn't give a definitive answer either way. In frustration, C.C asks Lelouch why he goes to Narita then so Lelouch tells her it's because his true identity might have been discovered by Shirley. Upon hearing this C.C asks Lelouch if he's going to deal with her if Shirley does know about it. She tells him that he must keep away those things that he doesn't want to lose. Lelouch wonders if C.C is talking from her own experience but she denies it and claims that it's a way of living. At the same time, Mao is trying to convince Shirley that Lelouch is cruel. Shirley wants to know how Mao knows about Lelouch but he simply ignores her and points out that Lelouch has lied to her about him being Zero. He also reminds her that this is the man who killed her father and stole her kiss. He thinks Lelouch needs to be punished and so is Shirley.
Shirley wonders why she should be punished so Mao tells her that he knows it all: about what happened that night. A flashback then reveals that back then Villetta was planning on handing Lelouch to Cornelia so she can become an aristocrat. Shirley, however, pointed a gun at Villetta and fired the gun as Villetta charged towards her. In the present day, Mao calls Shirley a murderer just like Zero. He also thinks she got compensation for her father's death in the form of a kiss from Lelouch. He thinks Shirley is a cunning woman who uses her grief so that Lelouch will be kind to her. He also wonders if Shirley wants to play the role of a tragic heroine. Mao believes that a woman who seeks a murderer like Lelouch is not a heroine but an ugly witch. He thinks she knows Lelouch likes other girls and yet she continues to stick around him. Despite her attempts to deny the accusations, Shirley eventually loses it and kneels down in tears.
Lelouch and C.C eventually arrives at the same place but they can no longer find Shirley. After they split up to find her, however, Lelouch receives a phone call from Mao. Mao then challenges Lelouch to a game of chess if he'd like to find out Shirley's whereabouts. The two end up going into a cable car but when they pass through a mountain, C.C spots them and recognises Mao right away. Inside the cable ar, Lelouch wonders if Mao is the other one who saw his face. While Lelouch thinks about this, Mao suggests that he focuses on the game or else he'd lose. A few minutes later, Lelouch is almost lost to Mao but the cable car arrives at its destination. Mao then asks Lelouch if C.C hasn't told him and reveals that he has Geass power too and it's in both of his eyes. Shirley then becomes angry at Mao because he thinks something has happened to Shirley but Shirley then appears outside the cable car. Mao then invites Lelouch to start the punishment game.
At the same time, Ougi thinks to himself how Zero wasn't like himself the other day when he notices Villetta laying unconscious nearby. When he gets closer to help her, Villetta whispers something about Zero. Meanwhile, Zero or Lelouch himself is now facing against Shirley, who points a gun at him. Lelouch wonders what's Mao's purpose in doing this but Shirley tells him to die and then she'd die together with him. Lelouch doesn't understand why Shirley wants to die but Mao reveals that Shirley was the first witness and was the one who shot the second witness in order to protect his secret. Lelouch tries to assures Shirley that Mao is deceiving her but Mao argues that Lelouch had done that as well. In her frustration, Shirley shoots at both Lelouch and Mao but misses out on both. This causes Lelouch to drop the photos that he found in her room, making Shirley hesitant again. Mao is unhappy when Shirley won't make a move and is about to shoot Lelouch himself but Shirley acts faster and tries to shoot Mao.
Mao pretends to understand and wants to leave the two but the truth is he's about to get a shotgun from inside the cable car. Before he can go out, however, the door closes again and the cable car moves away from the station. As it turns out, C.C was the one who moved it. Mao becomes excited to see C.C and yells at her that he'll come back to see her. In the aftermath, Lelouch tells Shirley that she can forget all of the bad things and after apologising for her father's death, he uses his Geass to wipe her memory. A few hours later, Shirley finds Lelouch at the Narita monument and wonders if Lelouch has also lost his family. Lelouch claims that it's a friend that he's lost. He tells her that how it's only after losing her he realises how important that friend was. Shirley wonders if Lelouch liked that person but Lelouch admits that he doesn't know anymore. Shirley assures him that despite everything, tomorrow will come. Lelouch agrees with this and thanks Shirley for everything up till now.
Impression:
Unless something else happens, I think this is the end of Shirley's story. As C.C said before, you need to keep away things that you consider important. This way, something bad won't happen to them. I wonder if this is what she meant when she first said that Lelouch's position will make him lonely. I can see him distancing himself from Suzaku, his sister, and the rest of the student council in order to ensure their safety. The thing is, at least 2 of the student council members (Suzaku and Karen) are already involved in his battle so that's a moot point. Anyway, I wonder how Shirley's mindwipe will translate to in the real world. Will she transfer away from the school? That would have been a perfect solution for Lelouch. I have to admit that I'm surprised that he handles this with a lot more care for Shirley than I thought he will. At one point I thought he'd gun her down but it seems Lelouch is not that kind of person.
In other development, it seems Mao is crazy for C.C and it's the reason as to why he's been playing mind games with Zero. To be honest his character is very annoying. I hate the way he speaks. It reminds me of Lloyd although not as bad. I do wonder what's the plan now when it comes down to Lelouch's story. It's unknown if Villetta is still alive or not but I think she'd tell Ougi about Zero's secret. At this rate, Zero's enemies are growing by numbers. In addition to Cornelia and her generals, he has Orange-kun, Villetta, Mao, and now possibly Ougi who are against him. And then there's the biggest enemy of them all, Suzaku and Lancelot. I wonder if Mao will join the other side in order to combat Zero and annoys him a lot. And before I forget, this episode shows that Sunrise doesn't want us to forget Nina anytime soon. I was hoping she'd disappear but Sunrise loves trainwreck and I shudder thinking at the kind of shenanigans she'd come up with in the future.

Hmmm, I've seen the Japanese encoders replace OPs before when an OP change hasn't been to their taste. I'd be kind of surprised if this episode really is supposed to have Colors as the OP.
Yeah, that crossed my mind too but it seems to be a rather seamless job so props to the encoder if he/she bothers to do this just because he/she dislikes the 3rd OP.
So after all of those problems in the end Lelouch just wipe out Shirley's memory? What a disappointment. Once again the writers backtrack on what could have been a juicy plotline.
I'm not really sure I see wiping Shirley's memory as a backtrack as such - it may seem that way now, but you have to remember that Lelouch being forced to do this at this point means that he can't mess with her head in the future. This is almost certainly going to have ramifications at some point, and the series will probably be more interesting for it.
The OP/ED themes for STAGE-14 is exactly the same as 13's: Kaidoku Funou & Mosaic Kakera - nothing was changed.
To be quite honest, I don't know if I should feel happy or angry at this series. The pace is so inconsistent. One minute, the pace is slow and then it suddenly goes fast. I felt this episode was crammed in with too much information that could have been spread out into several episodes. It is a mess.
As for Mao, he just came out of nowhere. I am glad that a true rival (Suzaku does not count) has emerged...but not like this. We have absolutely no idea how or what he is (excluding the rumors),
However, despite all this, my favorite side story (CC's story) has been developed even further.
In this episode though, you see something you don't usually see from Lelouche. He actually panicked. We have seen him as the cold, silent type who thinks ahead and calmly to gain back the advantage. In this episode, his emotions and the element of suprise has made him panic. He wasn't even able to play chess with composure.
I will say that I'm a bit more satisfied than I was last week. Nevertheless, the pace needs to be fixed for this series.
Lastly, I just want to point out that the way CC dressed in this episode makes her look like an assassin from Kill Bill or something...lol :P
Does ne 1, NE ONE knows where i could find these series online???????? a video showing site maybe, like youtube, but youtube doesn;t have it. Where does everyone else watch it?
As annoying as the ending is in terms of plot... it really is the only thing that makes any sense. If Lelouch hadn't done it, it would have become a strange plot hole and I'm sure everyone would be complaining that it made no sense that he didn't mind wipe her rather than complaining that he did...
In short, it was a bit disappointing, and not what we wanted, but it was inevitable, and the only thing that made sense.
Lelouch didn't just erase the memories of Lulu=Zero from Shirley's mind, he erased his entire existence. I think that letter that she wrote and the pictures will come back to haunt her.
btw, my copy of Code Geass did have the new opening.
I got a feeling the Vilette will undermine the Black Knights by joining the group and cause a distrubance by voicing and encouraging mutany among the group against Zero.
But it would be nice if she put her pride aside and join the group whole heartly.
C.C. is love @___@ Her outfit looks so adorable and out of place, yet kickass at the same time. Detective Lulu and C.C. FTW. It felt a little random to see a goth loli go cross country...but it makes me love her even more. Not to mention her kicking someone's butt in the sneak preview; makes me wonder where she learned all these things -love- Can't wait for the subs to come out.
Also, I can imagine the many icons of that C.C. and pantsu screencap xD They don't need to have one of those parodies from the Chi animation; they already have an official screencap.
awesome episode..as usual .
nearly shed a tear when Lelouch used geass on Shirley :(
anyway....on a less serious note , yet ...hum..
don't know if you guys heard of this new cool movement, the SNDF (Suzaku Needs to Die Fanclub ) .
it still is a new movement , it's a baby again..but..spread the word over the internet the bigger we get , the sooner Suzaku get's close to death ! spread the word .
All hail SNDF !!! :P
My copy got COLORS as well....weird. I want the JINN one since it's weird having JINN's OP on 13 but not on this one.
I think Lelouch had no right to erase Shirley's memory. I know he just wants to get things done quickly but he had no right to do that. Oh well, at least he's not sending Shirley to her death unlike Light did with Naomi in Death Note.
I expected Lelouch to wipe Shirley's memory, as killing her is the more obvious (and less pleasant) option. Sunrise has said that Code Geass is not a romance story and Lelouch won't find any in it; as such, killing off Shirley for being a little too curious is a bit too cruel.
With Villette still alive, we might actually see Ougi defect from the Order of the Black Knights as the opening indicates; quite a pity, since Ougi is awesome.
http://blog.livedoor.jp/dqnplus/archives/900984.html
this is like a battle of villains, and somehow i expected that from lelouch too, BTW, why Mao always wears those glasses?, is his geass power always activated? (something like cyclops from X-Men? xD)
oh god this episode surprised me as well..crazy stuff :O
apparently there are two versions of the episode. One with previous OP Colors and the one with the new OP. If you hear the sponser part, they play the new OP, so it might be possible that someone switched the OP before they released the raw.
Anonymous...Where in the opening did it indicate that Ougi might be defected out of the Order?
as i expected shirley can't shoot lelouch
but i'm glad that lelouch erase shirley memory about she know zero true indentity
The funny thing is I liked the new OP right until they started singing, then it was just pure pain. I'll be glad if they went back to the old one. This episode was really good though, I'm surprised at how much they managed to fit into a single sequence of events.
The ending was an acceptable compromise. I mean, you had to figure they weren't going to let things stay as they were.
The old OP for today's ep was a joke down by the raw-releasers
The ending to this arc could be seen a mile away. I don't think it's that bad a backpedal, though...if anything, in case she remembers being a seitokai member, that means he's pretty much chosen to destroy the place he wants to return to. An end to 'Lelouch Lamperouge('s student life)', if Sunrise wants to take it that way.
He's going to end up very much alone in any case. It's in the contract.
mao's clappings somehow irritate me. i would do anything to stop that... -___-
i guess lelouch does love shirley afterall without even himself knowing.. erasing her memory on lelouch=zero is enough to protect his secret but i just love how he also made her forget 'lelouch lamperouge' to ease the pain and conflict in her heart that she loved a man who killed her father. his face afterwards looks just like that of a man who just lost his lover....
i wonder if shirley will be out of picture now or maybe she would just fall for lulu again cuz both are still in the student council. besides, all their friends must be surprised and will try to make shirley remember her love again.
and oh.. i forgot to add that 'Masquerade' has just done its job so perfectly..
how i love that song, even more than 'Stories'
Wow.... I want to see the next episode D;
one thing i dont get is...
Did Shirley forget everything? like did she forget lelouch all together?
Yep Lelouch erased her memories of him being Zero and his entire existance from her mind altogether. Put simply she doesn't remember anything of him.
I'm glad that Lelouch mindwiped his existence from Shirley's memory. It shows that he does care for Shirley even though he has indirectly harmed her. It also shows how he's holding up his own moral convictions as an "Ally of Justice". I think that this serves as an important point to demonstrate that no matter how calculating Lelouch/Zero is, that he is still human by possessing the compassion that he has displayed to Shirley.
The scene where Lelouch erased himself from Shirley's memories reminds me of the Fruits Basket scene where Sohma Hatori (doctor, cursed by the dragon or sea horse in this case) wipes his girlfriend's memories as an act of kindness.
that mao so annoying i hope he's die soon
i think in this episode show us that lelouch didin't love shirley just friends
and the member of black knight in my opinion ougi and tamaki will be betray zero because of viletta but i hope karen not betray him
I feel very sad about consequence of Shirley's memory being wiped. As Lelouch say, it is known important only after losing his friend. In the storyline, the first important person Lelouch lost is Shirley, and afterwards, ii guess that the story will come up ending Lelouch will have accomplished his aim just he realise that he is alone by himself.
I am quite looking forward to Mao getting owned next week. Payback. lol But I'm also very interested in his past with C.C. and the power of Geass, which is said to be understood by the audience after the Mao arc.(Ep 16, I assume)
Viletta is probably very much alive.
And if Lancelot's getting on your nerves? Wait patiently, and you'll see Lulu making use of all the info he's collected from observing the mecha from near-distance combined with the info Laksharta provided him wth. It's going to be fun.
Looking forward to next episode, as usual.
Every one keeps mentioning a 3rd opening, I thought there were only 2, Colors, then the 2nd one. I think Colors should remain the Opening for the entire series, it just works.
Also, I think the series has started to get wierd from after episode 11, that includes the opening song and the storyline.
what interesting spoilers you have there, defade. really looking forward for them ^^
to Defade, this is getting mad interesting but i dont get your logic to why Ougi wont betray zero, jus wondern why u think that ^^ i dont really want him to betray zero but everyone else is hinting to that...
No matter how much Ougi might *spoiler* Viletta, he's still a Japanese. And not the kind that just bows down to Britannia, that's why he's a terrorist in the first place. He certainly hasn't forgotten how Britannia robbed them of their pride, and here's Zero, someone who can actually lead them against Britannia, do you think he woud give up such a chance just because Viletta is in the army?
And for those who love tiny spoilers:
Ep 16 - "...only a pitiful child who wants to be punished..." - either CC or Mao
Ep 17 - "My Knight will be the person standing over there!" - Euphemia
As we all know, the Black Knights go on a rescue mission for Toudou in episode 17. And Toudou will join them after the rescue.
During episode 18, Lulu, Euphemia, Suzaku and Kallen will be seperated into two groups due to the fighting in 17.
Thus those are the most recent and interesting spoilers. I still have a bunch, but most of them are setting ones like how Guren Nishiki is named after Kallen, how Clovis used to bug Lulu into playinng chess with him(after losing every single time - Clovis seemed to be quite fond of Lulu), and how there'll be an upgraded version of Guren.
Since nobody's answering...
The hint that Ougi (and while we're at it, Nina as well) might jump ships is that their mug-shots were shown along side Mao's and the 2nd prince's, both which we KNOW are the bad guys, while the first set of Mug-shots were more or less showing the 'good' guys. (Lelouch - C.C - so on...)
This is reinforce by the fact that in the last 2 episodes (and now this) Ougi's trust in Zero, as well as Zero's trust in him, seems to be breaking apart...
However, the only problem with that theory is that the emperor is also shown in the first set, so either the theory is wrong, or the emperor might just be...
Lulu is stupid and definitely not on par with Light. Light would never have gotten himself cornered like that. Plus, why didn't Lulu geass her to find out who other person who saw his face is before he did the mind wipe? To not spoil the mood? Bah.
Oh yeah, Mao is Lloyd's ex-boyfriend. I can feel the Brokeback vibes from those two.
Wow, this episode was just interesting to the fact that they start a whole dramatic side-story for Shirley, then end it the same episode. I'm quite disappointed at that it wasn't seen to at least 2 or 3 episodes.
Besides that, this episode left me speechless than the usual other episodes. Anyone else get that feeling? I do hope that Sunrise doesn't just totally dump Shirley out of the whole thing, cause she still has to do something about everyone else knowing her affection for Lelouch. Awkward .__.
Cheers
"Plus, why didn't Lulu geass her to find out who other person who saw his face is before he did the mind wipe? To not spoil the mood? Bah."
He might have asked; We didn't see the whole Geassing process.
Plus, he mentioned earlier that he's having the blood analyzed, so either way, he'll know soon enough.
@Beowulf Lee
Lulu might not be on par with Light, but he certainly isn't stupid. It's just that he has more conscience and morals than Light. Light would've just shot Shirley dead right away if he's in a situation like that.
...well, that's the end of the Shirley x Lelouch arc.
...a shame, 'cause that was the pairing I supported. On the other hand, I've watched a sub, and I'm not sure the ending conversation indicated that Lelouch had wiped her memory of him completely. For one, that would completely screw up both his and Shirley's situation at school, and two, there's no point. Until more evidence is presented, I'm thinking all Lelouch wiped was her knowledge of him being Zero and possibly her crush on him (including the kiss).
Main evidence for him having wiped her memories completely was him saying "I didn't know how much she meant to me till I lost her". Could just be from a romantic perspective though (how I wish...).
Godamn, get rid of Nina PLZ! I just can't stand her character, makes me wanna throw up. I'd say Viletta is gonna spill the beans on Zero to Ougi.
to Aelynsage
Thats possible i guess. But didnt lelouch tell her too forget everything about him that pained her?
Shirley's crush for lelouch caused her pain after she learned he was Zero. If that is so then Shirley really did forget Lelouch altogether
well i could be wrong though
well lelouch likes shirley that's all I know I mean he was practically hugging her but mao weird person who the hell is he and what connection with c.c does he have ? shirleyXlulu
And here I am still wondering how Viletta survived being shot with so much blood loss for such a long time. If anything, it's a plot device. Hopefully, they'll get rid of her as soon as she mentions something to Ougi.. though even she only knows Lelouch's face and not his name. Well, almost time to see what Stage 15 has in store....
i love to watch code geass even it is a replay or not but i came from detective conan family
please be inform that suzaku kururugi will kill lelouch vi britania i mean lalouch lamperoge.
