Catsuka and Chibi Yuuto are now hosting the famous Clover music video that CLAMP fans have been wanting to see for ages. The quality of the video is serviceable but don't expect it to match today's digisub quality. I wish CLAMP will just released this as a special DVD or something because I'm sure people will snap it up right away. But beggar can't be chooser and I'm quite happy just to be able to see this one animated. I am actually amazed to see how the video managed to sum up the main plot of Clover in a 6 minutes 38 seconds music clip. Basically you get to see Kazuhiko and Suu getting to know each other before embarking on their adventure to fairy park.
The credit for the video is too hard to read but it seems that MadHouse was the animation studio who got the responsibility for handling this adaptation. I have no idea who did the character design but judging from the sharp chin, I'd say that this looks like Nobuteru Yuuki's work. The song itself is kind of nice but I admit I was a bit disappointed. I thought it'll be a bit less monotone than it currently is at the moment. At times like this I wish there is a plan to turn Clover into an actual anime series. Unfortunately, it's Tsubasa that ends up being animated. Anyway, I have a couple more pictures below but unfortunately that's all that I can use since the rest of the video are quite undesirable to be used as screen caps.

I believe this means I need to download RealPlayer, now.
Thanks a lot for the link to the journal; wow, I've heard of this thing for ages, yet never actually seen any piece of it. Clover's one of my favorite CLAMP-works, and while I almost always prefer the manga-version to an animated version, seeing it animated would just make my day. ^^
[maybe more comments later, hm.]
It has been uploaded one month ago on Catsuka's website...
Anyway, at long last the Clover clip. I love the scene in Suu's cage when you see her robe floating in the air, it's so beautiful. Nice song, too. Atmospheric and melancholic, it fits very well in the mood of the original manga I guess. But for me the biggest surprise was the execution. Classic Madhouse style if i have ever seen it. Director Kitaro Kousaka's main work is Nasu if ANN is not mistaken, I think I will give this movie a chance.
Overall, I can say now that I am even more desirous to see this Clover special released on DVD, one day.
Bloody hell, I can't believe I've actually watched the Clover video! One of the holy grails of CLAMP fandom finally uncovered...
While it was beautiful, it was a bit slow even though it was only 6 minutes long IMHO! But then that's anime pacing for you. CLAMP certainly have a thing for dragons, don't they?
I've never actually read Clover, I must do so someday as it easily has my favourite CLAMP artwork of all their stuff. Did it end because they ran out of ideas or because the magazine it was serialised in went bust? I can't remember.
Also, Maaya Sakamoto voices Suu. This is a Good Thing. Not that she has much to say, though.
Bluwacky, IIRC, the reason it was stopped is because the magazine went bust. Maaya Sakamoto voices Suu is a good thing because Suu is supposed to do a lot of singing in the series. You should try reading the manga if you have the time. IMO, it's one of the best of CLAMP's work apart from X. It's rather dark and the storyline is far more interesting in comparison to their recent works.
Nobuteru Yuuki was the man behind the character designs. He published a work book of the character designs, animation sequences and layout work done for the animation clip. I've got it in my collection and would be happy to scan some images from it if anyone is interested.
I don't know about the others but I'll be interested to see it. So yeah, could you please scan them if you have the time? :)
When was the last time you've seen Clover? The manga books are designed quite elegantly, but the anime isn't that popular, is it?
Wow, just saw Hikari no Kideki's sub of it... the designs are really good!
That was very lovely, wasn't it? BTW, the vocalist is Ichiko Hashimoto. She went on to compose much of the music of RahXephon, sing its ED song, and play the part of Maya Kamina. The kanji for her name appear around 6:03.
Garten that was simply amazing! I don't know for how long I've been trying to see this clip. I'd so wish for it to be released on DVD in Japan at last though.
Oh and now I definitely know that I have to give a kidney for Nobuteru Yuki's Clover Doujinshi ^_^
Best Regards,

Hello
Please correct the credits.
This video comes from my french website Catsuka.com.
No credits to Catsuka on Chibiyuuto website ... but they ask their credits ... really mediocre behaviour.
This is not a screener, but a VHS-Rip.
My source is in higher quality.

Clover clip was directed by Kitaro Kosaka (Nasu, Summer of Andalucia), and designed by Nobuteru Yuki.
Tsuka
After watching the video (which did, in fact, make my day), I've come to the conclusion that while it is really pretty, I still like the manga style more, and can see why it never got more than the 6 minutes. The music was very appropriate - soft, yet broken enough to match with the broken story in the video; and the animation was beautiful. Seeing it this way, I think, is a lot more preferable than seeing a series made out of it, even if it was a short series.
CLAMP's style in Clover is a lot different than in most of their other works - while it's still very detailed, it's detailed in a disjointed way, where a lot of the scenes are given big white spaces and solid black instead of tones. The storytelling's like that, too, where not everything is completely explained all at once, and is in big gaps, and I think the animation pulls off that disjointedness really nicely. To add more to the video would be telling too much of the story all at once, so I think it was nice that way.
::goes to find the manga to reread::
I uploaded some scans from Nobuteru Yuuki's CLOVER workbook, they can be found here. Enjoy!
Arashi, thank you for scanning those images. It's been a while since I've read the manga so it's surprising to see how small Suu is in comparison to Kazuhiko.
Being the best piece of art by Mokona, Clover really deserves to be in this form of music video. It'd be better if they make an anime out of it. It's really sad that Mokona no longer active in CLAMP.
Arashi, thanks for that! *_* As if just having the video wasn't enough to spoil us ^_^
the video is damage or it's my player?
Note to Tsuka's post:
The subbing group Hikari no Seki did acknowledge the source of the video on their website. That was how I discovered your awesome website!!!
I was surprised when Clover music clip was posted on the net. I don't think that film was available in LD or DVD format either. (I checked Japanese version of CCS LD and DVD). It's one of those "Holy Grail" as. As Catsuka mentioned in his French site, the film was originally a part of double feature Cardcaptor Sakura in 1999. Director: Kitaro Kosaka (veteran animation supervisor / director of Howl's Moving Castle).
For people who are willing to give kidney for N. Yuuki's Clover dojinshi, I know a person who is willing to sell hers.
For people (brave or foolish?) who scanned Clover dojinshi should be careful not to damage the binding of book. It's an expensive book to begin with. (Current market price: 5000 yen-6000 yen or $45-$50) Although it was never scanned, but mine is starting to fall apart.
Speaking of credit, anime fandom nowadays is notorious for credit stealing (bluntly put), which i'm not really fond of. I defintely missed old school fansubs because some of them put full credit on anime shows. I truly believe that credit precedence goes to production staff/company before the names of fansubbers. And it's not hard to put names of director, writer, and/or prouction company on anime shows.
Catsuka, I know you don't like people not giving you credit. You just faced not-so-pretty side of current anime fandom.
WOW!, this a little old and i hope someone could answer my question, please... wich is the name of this bautiful song and who is the artist!? is Ichiko Hashimoto or Maya Sakamoto!?
