Autumn 2008 Anime

I'm sorry about the lack of anime reviews except Code Geass but my bandwidth is currently capped until tomorrow (Monday) and I can't download anything big without the download taking days. Anyway, these past spring/summer really tested my interest in anime. At times I feel like my interest is dwindling down. Strangely, my interest in live-action series/movies also increases at the same time. It doesn't help that I'm really preoccupied with my work these days that sometimes I find it hard finding the time to watch anime. Having said all of that, this upcoming fall/autumn 2008 seems to offer some interesting gems. I am especially delighted to see that there'll be a high number of supernatural-themed series. I always feel that anime needs more horror based series and while the majority of the series on offer are not horror in nature, I think I'll gladly take a supernatural type series as well. Anyway, bear in mind that the list I've made is not the complete list of Fall 2008 anime. It's just anime that I thought will be interesting to watch and what others might also find interesting. For a more complete list, see the link to the Fansub database below. Anyway, let me know what you think will be interesting to see this season.

Autumn 2008 Fansub Wiki

Hakushaku to Yousei
Hakushaku to Yousei

Original Title: 「伯爵と妖精」- Hakushaku to Yousei
Air Date: 28th of September 2008 (Sunday, 24:00)
Station: AT-X   Animation Studio: Artland
Opening Theme: FEELING by AciD FLavoR
Ending Theme:my fairy by Hikaru Midorikawa
Casts: Hikaru Midorikawa (Edgar J. C. Ashenbert), Nana Mizuki (Lydia Carlton)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: Adapted from light novel with the same name, the story is about Lydia Carlton, a 17 year old girl who's obsessed with fairy that she ends up being nicknamed "The Fairy Doctor". While travelling to London, Lydia met with Edgar J.C. Ashenheart, the Count of the Blue Knights who's looking for a sword belonging to his family lineage. Lydia decides to join the guy on his adventure.

Interest: Medium. It's hard to guess what kind of story this will be but I assume it will be fairy-tales related? My first impression is that the Count looks like Schneizel's long lost twin. The fat cat, Nico, is actually not a cat but some kind of fairy partner/guardian. In a way it reminds me of Nyanko-sensei because it hates being treated like a cat (even though it assumes a cat form). Personally, I think the anime artstyle doesn't look as hot as the light novel version but with Midorikawa Hikaru and Mizuki Nana as the VAs, it's probably worth to take a look .

Toradora
Toradora

Original Title: 「とらドラ」- Toradora
Air Date: 1st of October 2008 (Wednesday, 01:20)
Station: TV Tokyo   Animation Studio: J.C Staff
Opening Theme: 「プレパレード」- Pre-Parade by Rie Kugimiya, Eri Kitamura, and Yui Horie
Ending Theme: 「バニラソルト」- Vanilla Salt by Yui Horie
Casts: Junji Majima (Ryuuji Takasu), Rie Kugimiya (Taiga Aisaka)

Story: Ryuuji Takasu's eyes make him looks like a thug so he never has the luck when it comes to finding a girlfriend. Despite this, he's happy about the fact that he gets to be in the same classroom as his best friend, Kitamura, and crush, Kushieda. Takasu's life, however, is about to change when he gets to meet a tough girl called Taiga Aisaka.
Interest: Medium. It sounds like very other romantic comedy out there but I don't mind since it sounds kind of fun and the lead male character actually looks tough unlike a typical male character in this kind of story. One has to wonder about Rie Kugimiya's role though. She's as typecasted as tsundere girl as Noto Mamiko is typecasted as the quiet, mysterious girl. J.C Staff will animate this series so it should be interesting to see. As a side note, the title actually means Tiger and Dragon, Tiger is obviously the name of the female character while I assume Dragon is what Ryuuji is known as. It's kind of amusing because it reminds me of Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon.

Shikabane Hime - Aka
Shikabane Hime

Original Title: 「屍姫 赫」- Shikabane Hime: Aka
Air Date: 2nd of October 2008 (Thursday, 10:30)
Station: AT-X   Animation Studio: Gainax
Opening Theme: Beautiful Story by Angela
Ending Theme: My Story by Angela
Casts: Nana Akiyama (Makina Hoshimura), Tatsuya Hosome (Ouri Kagami)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: Makina Hoshimura is an undead girl with a mission to kill 108 undead corpses in order to gain entry to heaven.
Interest: Low/Medium. The series sounds like a female version of Blade of the Immortal. This is actually the first half of the series, subtitled, Aka (Red), with the sequel, Shiro (White) to follow later. The character design reminds me a little bit of This Ugly and Beautiful World (also by Gainax) and that's a rather unfortunate reminder since that series had a very poor storyline. I'm not one of those people who think that anything that comes from (insert any animation studio) must be Gold so while I'm interested to see what Gainax can do with it, I don't think that it'll automatically be good because it'll be animated by Gainax.

Yozakura Quartet
Yozakura Quartet

Original Title: 「夜桜四重奏 ~ヨザクラカルテット~」- Evening Sakura Quartet
Air Date: 2nd of October 2008 (Thursday, 25:29)
Station: TBS   Animation Studio: Nomad
Opening Theme: JUST TUNE by Savage Genius
Ending Theme: 「ナガレボシ」Nagareboshi by ROUND TABLE featuring Nino
Casts: Misato Fukuen (Hime Yarisakura), Miyuki Sawashiro (Kotoha Isone), Saki Fujita (Ao Nanami), Yuuki Kaji (Akina Hiizumi)

Story: An anime adaptation of the manga with the same name, Yozakura Quartet is the story of a powerless boy and 3 girls with supernatural powers. The four of them band together to protect their city, Sakurashin, from supernatural threat.
Interest: Low/Medium. I'm so sick of anime where the male character is a helpless, powerless character while all of the female characters are powerful and strong and have to defend the guy (which they all like). Why can't both sexes are equally powerful and have ability which support one another? With Thursday being the busiest day for this season's anime, this can easily get lost against all of the heavyweights (Nodame Cantabile, Clannad: After Story, Shikabane Hime). .

Clannad: After Story
Clannad: After Story

Original Title: 「クラナド アフターストーリー」- Clannad: After Story
Air Date: 2nd of October 2008 (Thursday, 26:29)
Station: TBS   Animation Studio: Kyoto Animation
Opening Theme: 「時を刻む歌」- Toki wo Kizamu Uta by Lia
Ending Theme: Torch by Lia
Casts: Mai Nakahara (Nagisa Furukawa), Yuuichi Nakamura (Tomoya Okazaki)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: A continuation of Clannad, the series basically continues Nagisa and Tomoya's story after they graduated from high school.
Interest: Medium. My first reaction upon seeing the teaser image (see above) on the official site was that of shock. Nagisa looks depressed in her role as a housewife that I wonder if some kind of DV is involved. I try to keep unspoiled but I hope that Tomoya does not turn out to be a drunkard like his father. I also hope that the animation will be much improved in comparison to the first season and will be shown in Widescreen format.

Tales of the Abyss
Tales of the Abyss

Original Title: 「テイルズ オブ ジ アビス」- Tales of the Abyss
Air Date: 3rd of October 2008 (Friday, 21:00)
Station: Tokyo MX   Animation Studio: Sunrise
Opening Theme: Karma by BUMP OF CHICKEN
Ending Theme: ??
Casts: Chihiro Suzuki (Luke Fone Fabre), Yukana (Tear Grants)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: An adaptation of video game with the same name, Tales is about a spoiled prince who finds himself transported into another world when a girl called Tear attacks his teacher.
Interest: Medium. I'm not crazy about the character design but I'm surprised to see BUMP OF CHICKEN actually performing OP theme for the series. I didn't know that they actually perform OP/ED theme sometimes.

Kurogane no Libarrel
Kurogane no Linebarrel

Original Title: 「鉄のラインバレル」- Kurogane no Linebarrel
Air Date: 3rd of October 2008 (Friday, 24:45)
Station: TBS   Animation Studio: Gonzo
Opening Theme: 「規定の剣」- Kitei no Tsurugi by ALI PROJECT
Ending Theme: 「雨が降る」- Ame ga furu by Maaya Sakamoto
Casts: Mamiko Noto (Emi Kizaki), Tetsuya Kakihara (Kouichi Hayase), Aya Hirano (Kujou Miu), Jun Fukuyama (Hisataka Katou)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: Kouichi Hayase is a 14 year old living a mediocre life where he gets bullied by his classmates. One day, however, he's bestowed a gigantic humanoid robot called Linebarrel. This puts his life on a rollercoaster ride of battles.
Interest: Medium. I'm mostly just intrigued by the OP and ED theme. The story sounds like any other mecha anime out there. It doesn't help that the show will be animated by Gonzo, who doesn't have a good track record lately, and the character design is by Hisashi Hirai, whose work tend to look similar from series to series. The trailer gives off the impression that this is going to be an epic series but one can argue that any trailer with gregorian/classic song will end up feeling that way. It feels like it wants to imitate the feeling that End of Evangelion trailer invoked when it was first released.

Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae
Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae

Original Title: 「地獄少女 三鼎」- Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae
Air Date: 4th of October 2008 (Saturday, 17:00)
Station: MBS   Animation Studio: DEEN
Opening Theme: 「月華」- Tsukihana by Nana Kitade
Ending Theme: Ichi Nuke by Noto Mamiko
Casts: Mamiko Noto (Enma Ai), Satomi Satou (Yuzuki Mikage)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: It's the series that refuses to die even after it's been sent to Hell. Despite the 2nd season, Ai is back to drag those pathetic excuse for human being to Hell kicking and screaming.
Interest: Medium. Although I blogged both Jigoku Shoujo and Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori, I was never aware of its popularity. But the fact that the producers are gearing up for Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae, suggests that there are target market for the sequel. Admittedly, there are several questions left unanswered after the final episode of Futakomori. This includes, what will happen to Ai? Will she suffer in Hell for all eternity? Who is Kikuri and what is her true intention/purpose? Who is grandma spider? Is she the guardian of Hell? Will we see more outlandish plot like a guy who dresses up as a girl and seduces his sister's boyfriends so he can keep his sister all to himself? Will there ever be Jigoku Shoujo XIII? I just hope this time around the series is a lot scarier.

Kannagi - Crazy Shrine Maiden
Kannagi - Crazy Shrine Maiden

Original Title: 「かんなぎ」- Kannagi - Crazy Shrine Maiden
Air Date: 4th of October 2008 (Saturday, 22:30)
Station: Tokyo MX   Animation Studio: A-1 Pictures Inc.
Opening Theme: 「motto☆派手にね!」- motto☆Hade ni ne! by Haruka Tomatsu
Ending Theme: 「産巣日の時」- Musuhi no Toki by Haruka Tomatsu
Casts: Haruka Tomatsu (Nagi), Hiro Shimono (Jin Mikuriya)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: Jin Mikuriya is an art student who decides to carve a statue out of a wood from Kannagi tree. Much to his surprise, the carving turns into a Goddess called Nagi. Eventually, he and Nagi end up working together to destroy the impure souls gathering within the town.
Interest: Low. I was originally attracted to the image on the splash page of the official site. But much to my disappointment, the actual animation doesn't look that good. Plus, the story sounds like any other Goddess meets human boy series.

To Aru Majutsu no Index
To Aru Majutsu no Index

Original Title: 「とある魔術の禁書目録」- To Aru Majutsu no Index
Air Date: 4th of October 2008 (Saturday, 25:35)
Station: Chiba TV   Animation Studio: J.C Staff
Opening Theme: PSI-missing by Mami Kawada
Ending Theme: ??
Casts: Atsushi Abe (Toma Kamijo), Rina Satou (Mikoto Misaka), Yuka Iguchi (Index)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: This is an adaptation of a light novel with the same name. A story of a world where magic and scientifically enhanced superhuman are real. The protagonist, Toma Kamijo has a right hand known as "Imagine Breaker", an ability that can negate all kinds of magic, psychic, or divine power. However, the power does not negate his own bad luck. One day he meets a nun from the Church of England who's been implanted with the Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum. This is magical texts the Church has removed from circulation. And then there's also Mikoto Misaka, a powerful Level 5 magic user who can use electricity as her weapon and has serial clones to boot.
Interest: Medium/High. This is an embarrassing secret which is no longer a secret now: I actually like Enchant Arm, that run-of-the-mill RPG that everyone else seems to detest. I think it's highly amusing and the main character's ability to nullify magic is interesting. To Aru Majutsu no Index has the same type of main character, a guy who can nullify magic so this immediately makes the series interesting. I like magical series where the main male character is not useless but actually has an ability that can be useful when used correctly. The nun character reminds me a little bit of Rosette from Chrono Crusade, which I haven't seen before so I can't really compare them beyond the fact that they are wearing a habit. I've seen the trailer and I think the show has real potential with its array of strange and unusual character achetypes.

Ga-Rei -Zero-
Ga-Rei -Zero-

Original Title: 「喰霊-零」- Ga-Rei -Zero-
Air Date: 5th of October 2008 (Sunday, 24:00)
Station: Chiba TV   Animation Studio: AIC Spirits
Opening Theme: ??
Ending Theme: ??
Casts: Eri Kitamura (Natsuki Kasuga), Tomoaki Maeno (Tooru Kanze)

Story: Tooru Kanze belongs to a special government division responsible for spirit extermination. In the past, an evil spirit killed his sweetheart so he's been chasing after the spirit in question.
Interest: Medium/High. The character design is HOT HOT HOT. I'm just hoping the storyline is interesting enough and the spirits are scary and dangerous. As a side note, the summary that I posted earlier was of the manga version. I've changed it with the anime version.

Skip Beat!
Skip Beat

Original Title: 「スキップ・ビート!」- Skip Beat!
Air Date: 5th of October 2008 (Sunday, 26:00)
Station: TV Tokyo   Animation Studio: HAL Filmmaker
Opening Theme: Dreamstar by the Generous
Ending Theme: NAMIDA by 2BACKKA ??
Casts: Katsuyuki Konishi (Ren Tsuruga), Mamoru Miyano (Shoutaro/Shou Fuwa), Marina Inoue (Kyoko Mogami)

Story: When peroxide-blonde Shoutaro comes to Tokyo to become a singer, his girlfriend, Kyouko decides to follow him and work to provide him while he struggles as musician. One day, however, Kyouko finds out that Shoutaro doesn't see her as anything but a convenient housekeeper. Kyouko is furious and vows vengeance but Shoutaro thinks she won't be able to do so since he's now famous. To retaliate, Kyouko decides to become a singer as well and become more popular than Shoutaro.
Interest: Medium. The story sounds like it'll be fun to watch. I just wish the character designer is a bit nicer. At the moment it looks a bit similar to that anime about the girl who looks scary and ugly and her terrifyingly beautiful 4 male housemates. Call me a graphic whore but when compared to Ga-Rei-Zero, I prefer the character design of that one. Still, this one boasts the talent of Miyano Mamoru and Marina Inoue.

Vampire Knight Guilty
Vampire Knight Guilty

Original Title: 「ヴァンパイア騎士 Guilty」- Vampire Knight Guilty
Air Date: 6th of October 2008 (Monday, 25:00)
Station: TV Tokyo   Animation Studio: DEEN
Opening Theme: Rondo by ON/OFF
Ending Theme: Suna no O-shiro by Kanon Wakeshima
Casts: Daisuke Kishio (Kaname Clan), Mamoru Miyano (Zero Kiryuu), Yui Horie (Yuuki Cross)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: Kaname is a creep vampire with douchebag complex whose idea of protecting a girl is to be possessive of her. Yuuki is the girl in question and last season, she found out that her close friend, Zero, is also a Level-E vampire. This season will reveal the background behind Yuuki's mysterious missing memories and Kaname's true identity in relation to Yuuki.
Interest: Medium. I think I'm starting to like ON/OFF as much as I like ALI PROJECT for their strange, gothic/polka-like song. Their 2nd OP theme for the series, Rondo proves to be as interesting as their 1st OP theme. Even if the animation looks mediocre like the first season, the OP/ED (Kanon Wakeshima does the ED as well) will be worth it.

Nodame Cantabile Paris hen
Nodame Cantabile Paris hen

Original Title: 「のだめカンタービレ 巴里編」- Nodame Cantabile Paris hen
Air Date: 9th of October 2008 (Monday, 24:25)
Station: Fuji TV   Animation Studio: J.C Staff
Opening Theme: Sky High by The Gospellers
Ending Theme: ??
Casts: Ayako Kawasumi ("Nodame" Noda Megumi), Tomokazu Seki (Chiaki Shinichi)
[Promo Trailer]

Story: Nodame is a talented Piano player who ends up following her crush, Chiaki Shinichi, to Europe after she received a scholarship to study overseas. The series will focus a lot more on the romance between Nodame and Chiaki now that they are unofficially 'official couple'.
Interest: Medium. I feel that the anime adaptation had a tougher role because it's released after the very successful live-action version. To this day, I always think that the live-action version is a lot more amusing but I still think it'll be nice to see Paris and other European cities animated.

Other series to consider

Eve no Jikan act2: SAMMY (1st of October)
I've never seen the first one so the fact that the 2nd one exists is a surprise to me. The character looks nice but I'm worried that it'll be one of those series with extremely complicated terminologies.

Hyakko (1st of October)
It's a slice of life starring Hirano Aya. It could be good and Wednesday is not exactly a busy day as far as new shows go. [Promo trailer]

Kuro Shitsuji (2nd of October)
Is this BL or horror? I can't be sure but the trailer looks intriguing. [Promo Trailer]

Gundam 00 Second Season (5th of October)
I'm not a big fan of Gundam and this one is not an exception. The producers can probably entice me if they get the right character designer but so far the character designers they've chosen seem to be Hisashi Hirai-clones. Everyone else will probably be excited to see this though. [Promo Trailer]

Kyou no Go no Ni (5th of October)
An ecchi, school-life comedy show about a pervert boy and his perverted life. Sounds kind of fun in that typical kind of way. If only this is not happening on a rather busy Sunday.

CHAOS;HEAD (9th of October).
It's a horror/thriller/murder-mystery anime based on video game of the same name. A boy finds a blog about murder case only to find that the next day the murder does happen. It looks a bit like Higurashi no Naku Koro ni on a glance and I'd have been all over this if this is not screening on a very busy Thursday. I'll definitely give the first few episodes a chance though. [Promo trailer]

Tytania (9th of October).
The character design looks nice but as usual, I'm not sure if I'd have the patience to watch another Space Opera. Again, this is one of those shows that just have to choose Thursday as its airing day. [Promo trailer]

Junjou Romantica 2 (9th of October).
More hot man to man love than you can handle. And don't pretend like you're not interested/curious. If only I get a dime for everyone who pretends that he/she doesn't like it but they blog it anyway (while going "Eww, buttsecks"), I'll be rich.

Michiko to Hatchin (15th of October).
It's an anime about a hot tamale called Michiko (who apparently broke Penitentiary Prison) and Hatchin, a girl fleeing from her foster parent. It sounds like Cowboy Bebop, Thelma and Louise style. Oh, it's Manglobe Production. At least the animation will be awesome, right? [Promo trailer]

Hmm things I want to watch this Fall: Skip Beat!, Kuro Shitsuji and that's about it. oh yeah and follow up on Junjou Romantica.

I read the manga for kuro shitsuji and it doesn't seem BL, it's more of master and servant relationship. Kinda funny at times, but once it gets into the serious plots, it gets kinda dark and some what merciless. It's actually quite sad if you see the overall picture, but it still looks like something I would follow through personally.

As for this upcoming season, I'm looking forward to Gundam 00, Shikabane Hime (Gainax!!), Clannad and Tales.

Mm, as for Skip Beat!, Kyoko just wants to be a bigger *star* than Shou, which somehow ends up with her in acting, rather than singing. It reminds a lot of people of Glass Mask on occasion since Kyoko gets really, REALLY into her characters, which may be a plus or minus for you.

And yeah the art does look ..shiny, which worries me, but the source material is just great. I have hope, but then again, it's always my favorite manga that end up sucking the most as anime, so we'll see.

Oh, I don't know if you read the Vampire Knight manga, but for some reason the plot is super hyper in the last chapter, which is making people think it will end very soon. Which means there won't be that much more source material for the anime..

i've only read a couple of chapters of Kuro Shitsuji as i'm waiting for the translation (can't read japanese) but it seems really good with that dark humour and all

i've got the first 2 of jigoku didn't think they were gonna make another one... tho i do agree they left a lot unanswered in the 2nd one, hopefully Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae would answer those questions...? maybe tho i wish it would be more scary =( i want the 2nd season of ghost hunt to come out...

Tried to watch Gundam Wing, wasn't interested. Tried to watch SEED, got turned off. I'm interested with Turn-A though due to the character design.

Still, you'll probably catch me watching this series 'cause I like the manga so much ^_^

I'll be watching Junjou 2, Vampire Knight, Hakushaku no Yousei and Nodame as well, though it'll probably be more along the lines of me dling five series and only watching one. My interest level in anime hasn't exactly been all too high lately so I end up dling a lot of series and never really watching them. Out of the seven anime I've been dling this season, I've only really watched two (Code Geass & Antique Bakery).

Drama, on the other hand, I've been dling and watching as though I'm trying to do a marathon.

Unfortunately Haruhi is not going to be in Fall 2008 lineup. If I have to guess, it'd be released for Spring 2009 or later that year. I'd love to see Haruhi again but with the extremely crowded Fall 2008 schedule, I think it's a good thing that Haruhi is not screened now.

I've heard both good and bad about ToraDora, and decided to stick with it. As I've heard from a reliable source, the start of the series is a little bumpy and you might find Taiga reallyy bitchy at first. But the story gets really good later on :)

Hakushaku to Yousei is a fantasy adventure story I'd love to follow, especially with the strong lead Lydia who's like a Natsume who already got into terms with her peculiarity (of being able to see fairies) and couldn't care any less what people think of her, so long as she's happy with what she's doing :) I'm still [slowly] reading the first novel, and I'm loving the adventure so far.

I see that you have some series that you are interested in this fall. I remember last season you only had "medium" or "lows" ^^

About Ga-rei... you might wanna check out the original manga... which looks like a typical shonen manga. Personally I didn't really like it. Then again, it looks like anime will deviate a LOT from the original (for starters, like you said, character design looks great;;;)

Hmm... and you didn't like Kannagi's promo video? I guess you ARE a graphic whore after all. lol...

Really? I find Kouga Yun's style to be completely the opposite of SEED.
If KuroShitsuji turn out to be really good, would you be interested in blogging it? I haven't any seen blogger that went pass "wtf yaoi no". The series isn't BL. It's just shounen with some fangirl tease threw in.

Garten, you're going to be pleasantly surprised if you think the lead in Yozakura is just another housewife =| . And for that matter, you got the synopsis for Ga-Rei Zero wrong, that's the plot of Ga-rei (the manga), not Ga-Rei zero (the anime).

I'm afraid the likelihood is small since Thursday is a busy show. If the show is really good, I'll try to blog it on another day.

Garten, you're going to be pleasantly surprised if you think the lead in Yozakura is just another housewife =|

:o I didn't say that. How could the lead in Yozakura be a housewife when they're supposed to be teens? Maybe you're confusing it with CLannad?

And for that matter, you got the synopsis for Ga-Rei Zero wrong, that's the plot of Ga-rei (the manga)

Shoot. I didn't know they're different. No wonder I thought it's strange that the character name is different. I've fixed the summary so it's the anime version. I guess they're trying to make it sounds as different as possible from Shana.

Wow, haven't come to my fav anime blog for a long time.

Just to say Chaos;Head is is worth a lot of attention, with Madhouse in charge of the animation, as well as story by Gen Urobuchi, chief writer of Nitro+, who wrote Saya no Uta which is nothing short of a master piece. He also wrote Fate/Zero and is in charge of the novelisation of Black Lagoon. If I am not mistaken this would be his first work to be animated, and I for one have high expectations.

Re: Yozakura Quartet --> And Kifear hits the nail on the head. (^_^) I have my own reservations about the story (based on two volumes of the manga), but it's more to do with the plot being all over the place at the moment. I love the artwork, and as I wrote in my own fall season write-up the story's got loads of potential, so my recommendation is to give it at least three episodes.

(Unless the first one really sucks. Then flush it down with my blessing.)

Probably only watching Kuroshitsuji. Unless the animation is bad and the action are cut off. I really really hope that they stick to the master-servant relationship and don't make any BL to attract bl fans -_-

The Skip Beat manga was great. I've been waiting for the anime since forever. The character designs are...horrible...but the story and humor make up for it.

The first season of ef is a very good love story.
And based on the original game, the stories in the second season should be even better than the first one.

I keep looking and looking at the list but nothing seems to stand out to me. For now I am looking for something like Monster or Death Note, a good thriller anime, but nothing seems to stand out to me.

I was wondering, Garten, have you found any other series similar to them in the fall line-up?

Similar to Monster or Death Note? In terms of complex plot, Eve no Jikan sounds like one. Apart from that, I'm not sure if there's something similar to either of those shows you mentioned.

Oh yay you made a list of new animes! *searches for interesting anime*

About Skip Beat that you wrote: "At the moment it looks a bit similar to that anime about the girl who looks scary and ugly and her terrifyingly beautiful 4 male housemates."

The anime you're talking about is "Nadeshiko shichi henge" or The Wallflower.
Have you watched it? I thought it was really funny, you should give it a try (though the ending of the anime ended abruptly because the manga wasn't over yet).

Back to Skip Beat, I had a hard time reading the manga because of the old drawing style... so I gave up reading it. I hope the anime will get me interested!

Skip Beat manga is Awsome. Hilarious with touching moments too! You have to see Kyoko with her "demons."

The anime art looks a bit disappointing though. Hopefully the story will represent the manga well.

Kuro Shitsuji ( not a BL or horror , the story is pretty good and the manga art is amazing. Everyone keeps on thinking is a BL since the trailer make it look like it.)
Hakushaku to Yousei
To Aru Majutsu no Index
Skip Beat ( I hope it won't disappoint me)

Ga-Rei -Zero- also seems like a good anime, will be looking out for that.

And I guess I'll see the first ep of the new one Aya Hirano is in... she's always in slice of life animes isn't she...

I'm mostly interested in: Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae, Ga-Rei -Zero-, Yozakura Quartet (I love the character design, that's why), Tales of the Abyss, Shikabane Hime - Aka, and Skip Beat.

Least not interested in: Vampire Knight Guilty, Hakushaku to Yousei, Kannagi - Crazy Shrine Maiden, and Nodame.

doubt we've seen good sport animes in a while. i wouldn't know what to compare it to but it seems the "big shot" bears a resemblance to someone on Eye Shield.

it's a whole lot of baseball and gambling. normally i wouldn't even give something like it a second though but i came across it just recently.

OP and ED aside, the series is proving itself amazing music wise. check it out.

•Toradora!
•Hakushaku to Yousei (Earl & Fairy as translated by the fansubs)
•Kuroshitsuji

I already watched the first few episodes of each of them and so far, the story's interesting.

Thank you & good luck!
